| Standing before a stately mahogany desk within Haven National Bank, a |
| well-dressed man sporting blue-lensed glasses has had his photo taken |
| professionally. The leg of his trousers has been tailored to end in a rolled-up
| cuff, exposing an extravagant prosthesis affixed below the right knee. |
| |
| |
| This is a robust, middle-aged executive in his mid-fifties. |
| He is 6’2″ and has a fair complexion, and faded blond hair greying at the temples.
| You can see his face, and hands. |
| He is missing his right leg below the knee. |
| |
| A sizeable man of robust frame and the beginnings of a paunch, he stands just over the classic six feet tall. He carries himself with good posture and great heapings of confidence, belying a figure settling into its autumnal years, and the slow waning of a once-formidable body.
| |
| Cropped short to a professional profile, his hair has a salt-and-sand colouring of faded blond and encroaching silver. The greying concentrates most heavily at his temples, trailing down through into his facial hair. A strong, straight nose and high cheekbones preserve a patrician quality beneath the added weight of his age, and a short, well-kept beard frames his broad face in a flattering light. Silver has made greater inroads here than atop his head, particularly around the chin.
| |
| Steady and well-maintained, his hands tell two stories. Neatly manicured nails and smooth skin spared the indignities of a lifetime of manual labour speak to the man’s history and privilege. His knuckles would bely that grace; thickened here and faintly scarred there, they preserve little reminders of a younger age spent settling matters more personally.
