About Me

My name is Hiram Salte, and I was born and raised right here in Haven. I spent twenty years working aboard merchant ships and fishing vessels, traveling farther and seeing more of the world than I ever expected when I was a kid. It was good work, though it taught me that there are some things you appreciate a whole lot more after you’ve been away from home for a while.

These days, I’ve settled back into Haven and run a small fishing equipment shop catering mostly to tourists and locals who haven’t quite figured out that the fish don’t care how expensive their tackle is. I enjoy the quieter pace of life. There’s something satisfying about helping someone pick out the right rod, fixing a reel that someone has managed to abuse beyond all reasonable limits, or just standing on the dock with a cup of coffee and watching the water. After twenty years at sea, I don’t need much excitement anymore.

Quote

“Those who live by the sea can hardly form a single thought of which the sea would not be part.” – Hermann Broch

_____________________________________________________________________________ | The subject of this photo is taken as far away possible with the ocean in | | the background. He appears cranky and not enjoying having his picture taken, | | but this is probably the best one he has. | | | | | | This is a weathered seafarer with a salt and pepper beard in his mid-forties. | He is 5’10” and has weathered, dusky skin, black hair, and gray eyes. | | You can see his face, neck, and hands. | | | | This dark completed man is slightly taller than average but isn’t quite six feet tall. He appears average in most ways, not overweight, but not skinny, and certainly not overly buff. Almost entirely unremarkable. The jet black hair on his head is long and wavy, but pulled back into a ponytail most of the time, secured by a leather wrap or some other simple tie. It is starting to gray at the temples.Under the weathered expanse of his forehead are two bushy black eyebrows.Situated below his eyebrows, his stormy north sea grey eyes pierce those they look at with a quiet intensity. They are sunken into his face, a symptom of not enough sleep, crowfeet creasing the corners of his eyes. Between them rests a prominent nose that bends slightly to the left, a sign of having been broken but not properly set.His face sports a closely cut beard and mustache, flecks of grey starting to show in the patches along the side of his lips. His lips are ready an slightly puffy, easily chapped in cold air.His is likewise unshaved, if a flared at the base transitioning into a pair of average shoulders, a sign of at least some exercise. His hands are broad and callused, showing signs of frequent use employed in some trade, though the nails are clean neatly trimmed. | | | | | | | He is using: | | (D) an oil and grease stained pair of black coveralls | | (D) a grease stained emerald green t-shirt undershirt | | (D) a pair of worn black leather steel-toe work boots | | | |_____________________________________________________________________________|
