Joels Odd Encounter Sr Savannah 240313

On a stormy morning at Purity House within White Oak's campus, Joel Kalani finds himself facing an unexpected situation when state police officers, accompanied by a staff member, arrive at his dormitory door. Without warning, Officers Barnes and Henry introduce themselves and explain that Joel has been named a prime suspect in a delicate criminal investigation. They request his cooperation for a private conversation at the sheriff's department located on campus. Despite his initial confusion and concerns, Joel hesitantly agrees to follow the officers, trusting in the protection that the campus environment provides against what he perceives as a misunderstanding or a mistake.

Once in the interrogation room, Joel learns the specifics of the accusations against him related to an incident outside of Haven. He firmly believes in his innocence, recounting his alibi for the day in question, including attending mass with a friend and being in his room. The officers take note of Joel's timeline, expressing a need to verify his story with others, particularly Father Jack, who Joel mentioned could corroborate his attendance at mass. Eventually, the officers conclude that if Joel's alibi checks out, he may not fit the profile of the suspect they are looking for. They inform him that they will continue their investigation and reach out if further questioning is necessary. Relieved yet still curious about the nature of the crime and who might have implicated him, Joel leaves the sheriff's department, contemplating the unexpected ordeal he just underwent.

In Room Six of Purity House
This is a fairly typical college dorm room, with a comfortable bed and a sturdy desk in a corner. A stand with sheet music is set up in another corner, and the walls are decorated with various landscape posters. A wooden wardrobe has been fitted with a full-length mirror.

It is morning, about 20F(-6C) degrees, and the sky is covered by dark grey stormclouds. It's hailing outside. It's snowing outside.

(Someone has sent the state police after your target. Perhaps they're a real criminal or perhaps they've been framed, in either case it's up to them to get their arrest warrant handled and removed.
)
Joel is standing at the window, staring down at the hail falling outside. His look is a rather depondent one, the weather's turn for the worse blighting his hope of leaving winter behind for good.

The winter weather seems to continue well into spring with the hail and snow outside just really doing a number on any outdoor activity. The sound of it can be heard bouncing against the rooftops, the snow coming down and covering up the hail to make the conditions even worse. While Joel waits there and looks out of the window he can see some approaching figures of authority being escorted by one of the White Oak members of staff. They approach Joel's room and soon he can hear a knock at the door now, the insistent knock that only the police seem to deliver properly.

Joel starts a little at the loudness of the knock, staring at the door a little. But perhaps still trusting a little too much to the safety of White Oak, he heads to the door, slowly pulling it open, eyebrows lifted faintly. "Yes?"

Two state police stand outside of the door now when Joel answers it and they begin to introduce themselves, "I am Officer Barnes and this is Officer Henry." The both of them produce some identification and the White Oak staff member moves aside now, letting them do their business, "Is your name Joel Kalani?" It is a pretty standard introduction and nothing seems out of place other than the fact that Joel is being visited by the police right now.

Joel blinks as he glances between the two men, a sidelong glancing given at the staff member. "Um...yes" he replies. Kinda hard to deny being the resident of the room. "What's this about?"

One of the officers steps forward and gestures with a hand, "You are going to have to take a walk with us. The sheriff's department nearby has given us a room to have this conversation with you, but you have been reported to us as a prime suspect in a crime and we would prefer to speak with you about this in a more private setting as the nature of the crime is ... a delicate one." The officer that speaks seems to indicate White Oak as a whole as if gesturing to give a nudge nudge to what he might be meaning as delicate.

Joel parts his lips, staring at them a little. "That's... there has to be a mistake" he replies, flustered. He glances toward the staff member and says "Um... isn't there a college lawyer or something?"

The staff member responds to Joel now, "We cooperative with investigative authorities when possible and they won't be removing you from campus." One of the officers tacks onto that statement, "We just need to have a conversation out of the way of prying ears and eyes just in case the information we gather needs to be used in the future without compromising the investigation. There are some reports that have been made, evidence gathered, and we need to speak with you so you can come with us and have a conversation or we can escalate this situation more than it needs to be escalated. If it is a mistake, I am sure we will clear it up swiftly."

Joel takes a deep breath, clearly not convinced by the usual police euphemisms and veiled threat. He seems to evaluate his options for a moment before murmuring a faint "Alright..." he glances at the window with another grimace, and for some reason doesn't go pick up a coat.

Officer Henry takes the lead and steps out of the doorway to gesture for Joel to follow and Officer Barnes steps to the other side, waiting, "We will just have a conversation down at the station here on campus and then get to the bottom of all this." They would wait for Joel to leave his room and escort him towards the sheriff's department entrance and one of those rooms if he goes along with it all willingly.

Joel seems perhaps to feel that as long as they stay on campus, there are still some special rules that apply, and so he heads along, mind racing as he tries to find an explanation for the situation.

The room the officers lead Joel to is one of the sheriff's investigation rooms and it seems pretty barren with one of those tables and some chairs in the middle. They gesture for Joel to have a seat and then one of the officers takes a seat himself while the other stands, "There was some trouble outside of Haven, not too far away, but close enough that some of the people we spoke with knew people from this area and your name came up. Do you know what you were doing on the tenth and where you were?"

Joel sits down at the table, watching then intently, before blinking in surprise "My name? I really don't see..." he trails off, frowning to think for a bit. "The tenth... oh! Sunday, right? Well, I spent most of it in my room. But I went shopping in town with a friend in the evening, and then headed back to the campus to attend mass."

The officer sitting down in front of Joel takes down some notes while listening to the man and says, "Attended mass? Do you remember what time that was and if there are others that also attended who could verify your location?" He does seem just vaguely suspicious of Joel, but it is not like he is staring at him with true malice in his eyes.

Joel sits back a little, frowning "Um... actually, must have been a bit earlier than the evening, now that I think about it. It was around two or three PM? But yeah, people definitely saw me there. Including Father Jack."

Note taking continues and the officer leans himself backwards to confer with the other officer nearby in low tones, "If he was at mass and we can confirm that it seems like it could fit the timeframe." They seem to come to an agreement and one of them stands up, offering a gesture to Joel, "We are going to take a look at this information you have provided us and reach out to contact this Father Jack. We'll verify your location and the timeframe and reach out to contact you if we need anything more."

Joel lifts an eyebrow, clearly not entirely sure how to interpret that first comment. But he nods quietly, seemign reassured he's not going to get dragged off just now. "Alright..." there's a beat before he says "Look, I don't even have any... well, ability for what you call 'Delicate' situations."

One of the officers begins to walk towards the doorway now and opens it for Joel, "We understand. The timeframe matching the description and evidence we have gathered does not match you as being a suspect if you are verified as being here during that mass. We will speak with the faculty here and come to a conclusion to either reach out for more questioning or to leave it be, but for now if you are telling the truth you shouldn't worry too much. The delicate situation we're speaking about might even require ability in that way to be able to have you be considered, so Mister Kalani, if everything checks out we're sorry for the intrustion into your day, but don't let us catch you lying or there will be consequences. You're free to go."

Joel nods softly, relaxing a little. He does look quite curious, both about the crime and about who might have pointed the finger toward him, but he knows when not to push his luck, and so he heads for the door, bracing himself to run through the hail again.
