What I'm doing in haven

T3.5 - https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RetiredMonster

A man with a dark and troubled past, Spencer was once consumed by corruption, ruthlessly acquiring power by exploiting those around him. He's committed heinous acts, including rape, murder and slavery. He revelled in his own evil deeds, relishing in the fear and suffering of others.

But as Spencer's immortal life continued, he grew tired of his dark ways. The constant cycle of violence began to weigh heavily on him, and he longed for something more. He yearned for peace, a chance to retire from his wicked ways and settle down.

Spencer embarked on a journey of self-discovery, determined to find some humanity within himself. He sought out those who had been hurt by his actions and made amends where he could. He began to understand the consequences of his choices and the pain that he had caused others.

As Spencer grew in his newfound humanity, he found himself struggling to reconcile his dark past with his desire for a better future. He was torn between the power that he had once embraced and the man he wanted to become. He is determined to leave behind his dark past and build a new, better life for himself.

But not all demons are escaped so easily.

How I cope

I have nothing but my sorrow and I want nothing more. It has been, it still is, faithful to me.

Why should I begrudge it, since during the hours when my soul crushed the depths of my heart, it was seated there beside me?

O sorrow, I have ended, you see, by respecting you, because I am certain you will never leave me.

Ah! I realize it: your beauty lies in the force of your being. You are like those who never left the sad fireside corner of my poor black heart.

O my sorrow, you are better than a well-beloved: because I know that on the day of my final agony, you will be there, lying in my sheets, O sorrow, so that you might once again attempt to enter my heart.
