A Battle In The Nightmare 240320

(A battle in the Nightmare)

[Tue Mar 19 2024]

At the Intersection of Dandelion Parkway and Rose Lane
Cracked and pothole-ridden asphalt roads make up this part of town,
bordered on either side by poorly maintained cracked sidewalks. The
aluminum streetlights are painted a deep, chipped green and appear regularly
along the side, illuminating the street in spots of warm electric light when
it's dark. Where the street is widest small median islands appear with old
twisted trees planted in them. The buildings that line the street seem old
and poorly taken care of.

It is after dusk, about 36F(2C) degrees, and the sky is covered by dark grey stormclouds. There is a waxing gibbous moon.

"..Well, then." Miles exhales softly as he finds himself in the nightmare with little warning, and squints around the place.

Sofia says "Oh, wow."
Miles squints through the miasmic mass surrounding him, "Who's that?"

Sofia says "Who are you?"
Sofia says "Hmm "
"The good guy." Miles drawls out a little wryly, exhaling as he reaches down to load rounds into his rifle.

Sofia says "Right, well, can I go back to my dorm please?"
"Sure, you can." Miles allows, ever so graciously, "Though, I don't think the nightmare is going to just let us waltz out of here, unfortunately. Who is this?"

Sofia says "Hmm. Unfortunate. "
Sofia says "Well, someone must have pulled us both in for some reason, and they might be here."
Sofia says "If I tell you my name, will you tell me yours?"
"Not someone so much as something." Miles offers some mild explanation, "You and I? We're like negative and positive charges. I'm the positive, clearly. You're probably supporting the Hand, or the Damned, or someone, and so we've been been drawn together by the nightmare to clash." There's a pause at the question, and he clears his throat. "Miles."

Sofia says "Oh, well. You're with the Temple? "
"In a manner of speaking. Though I'm largely with the Redeemers more so." Miles notes in response, making a so-so sort of gesture.

Sofia says "Well, whatever that something is, it's really damn stupid. Because we can't see eachother. And don't you think it's rather rude to immediately assert the foul nature of someone you can't see?"
Miles just sort of shrugs at this, "Who are you, and who are you with then?"

Sofia says "You didn't even give me a chance to stand"
Sofia stands up, dusts the nightmare dust from her jacket, and turns round.

Sofia says "That white haired woman came up, and the first thing she did was threaten my compatriot. What was I going to do, let her shoot my friend? "
Sofia says "I doubt you'd have just stood by and done nothing, yourself. "
Sofia pulls her revolver out, but she does not look very interested in fighting.

Sofia says "She was preparing to shoot my friend. You'd have done the same thing. What's the first rule of firearm safety, or is it the second. Don't point a gun, or a weapon at anything you do not intend to destroy. "
Sofia says "I was willing to speak to you, until you did that. You are opposed to us, and you made the first hostile action. You don't need to be so self righteous about it. "
Sofia fades out of the nightmare.
