Miless Decursing Attempt 240320

(Miles's decursing attempt)

[Tue Mar 19 2024]

On Guardian Lane
The hard-packed dirt road is wide enough for two cars to passs but just barely. Along each side, the foliage has been left to grow as it will with no attempt to tame it or trim it for appearance. Overhead, the tree branches grow thicker than previous, causing more of the shade during the day and an even deeper darkness at night.

It is night, about 36F(2C) degrees, and the sky is covered by dark grey stormclouds. It's snowing. Ankle high mist flows through the area. There is a waxing gibbous moon.

Miles says "Ah, crap. I've just picked up a cursed dagger. "
Miles extends a somewhat sheepish look over toward Alexander, and then gestures at the dagger in his hand. "One of these days I'll learn not to pick up shiny things on the road." He drawls out.

"Well, I suppose better me than someone else.." Miles allows with a quiet sort of sigh, and shakes his head. "Tabitha's asleep still, I reckon. You happen to have any other arcanist friends?"

Miles doesn't seem particularly happy to see Sofia. "Oh, it's you." He mutters under his breath, there's a gesture aside to Alexander then, "She's another member of the Damned. Opened fire on us in Germany."

Sofia says "Go figure. And yeah, I did, you pointed a bow at my friend. Now lets get this thing off you."
Alexander says "Yeah, well. You also shot them I hear, I'm fine to call it even."
Alexander gives Miles a look, a faint little smirk. He might be kidding

"That's not quite how even works." Miles exhales softly, and closes his eyes for a long moment or two. Though, his suffering is interrupted by the hum of the dagger as it's curse starts to build up. "Brilliant. Great. Here we go now."

Sofia says "You might have done the same. I dunno. You seem more like the type of crusader to burn Cathars, and less to build a hospital. Be glad to have you prove me wrong."
"You don't know me from a box of hammers." Miles rolls his eyes at Sofia, "Just work on getting this thing off me, and then we can fight about it later." He drawls out, reaching into a socket to produce a bag of salt. That's his go-to now, when it comes to magic. Throwing salt at it.

Sofia says "I'm damned, not a dick. Come on, Alexander, show me the steps. "
Sofia prepares to assist, in what way she can.

The whole room shakes.
Alexander laughs easily and nods to Miles. "It's fine," he says to Sofia. "You kinda don't super have a leg to stand up, but yeah," he looks to Miles. "Beggars and choos-wah!"

Sofia says "Shit! "
Speaking of legs, and standing, the ground rumbles beneath those standing here, and Miles sways this way and that, trying to keep on his feet, "You just had to say it!" He blurts out aside to Alexander, throwing out his dagger-free hand to brace himself against his car.

Sofia lights a small sprig of something that smells rather nice, as the shaking starts. She spreads her stance out and tries to remain standing, and or catch anyone who may fall.

Walking down the road, Autumn narrows her eyes upon seeing Miles before she walks towards Sofia. "I have been told by those I serve that you require help," she speaks despite having a dreary look. "And I will assist you..."

Alexander blinks and looks at Autumn. "...Hey, you alright? We can handle this one," he insists. Concern marks his expression as he tries to catch his footing.

Sofia says "Fucking hell. Nasty thing. You know what it reminds me of, crusader? Stormbringer. Ever read those books?"
Sofia chats idly, as if her entire frame isn't shaking. She appears to be attempting to relax the situation by pretending everything is fine...or something? It can be hard to tell with her.

There's less concern in Miles's features, at least less directed toward Autumn. "Shut up, and do what Alex says." He mutters over toward Sofia, trying not to roll his eyes. Once he's managed to catch himself, he goes about grabbing more salt and flicking it at the dagger, "Banish! Stop! Away!" He doesn't know magic.

Sofia says "Hmm. It's stuck to your hand, yeah? Like because it's tightened your muscles, or because it's glued? "
"I'm fine," Autumn simply says to Alexander and then shakes her head at Sofia. "No, never read them-Fuck off, Miles. Don't tell me what to do like I'm your slave." Turning to face the dagger, she holds her hands out, narrowing her eyes more as the runes of her panja bracelet glows red-orange.

The artifact emits a flash of blinding light.
Alexander shakes his head. "Okay," he says taking reins. "Everyone take a breath, calm and let's begin," he gestures to the dagger. "Four corners, four participants." He moves to begin with a piece of chalk, drawing geometric symbols, he stops to slash his arm, crying out as he's blinded. "Fuck," the shades help of course, but only some

Sofia says "Oh, well, Autumn, it's a lovely set of books, written by the originator of the idea of a multi-verse, in fiction. "
Sofia moves into position, steadying Alexander. She was only saved from the bright flash by her idle chatter distracting her from looking at the knife.

There's a flash of blinding light from the dagger, and Miles is half-stunned by the thing for several seconds, stumbling backwards. "God damn it." The man mutters out, rubbing at his eyes with his free hand. It's a lot harder to find those drawn quarters now.

Alexander nods to Sofia. "This will require little from the participants than focus. If you have a mantra, whisper it, otherwise, calm your emotions," he insists, still trying to blink his vision clear.

Autumn lets out a hiss as she is blinded by the light. "Miles, you fucking sun human, stop upsetting curse!" she calls out while she channels her magic.

Sofia moves into one of the squares corners, humming a strange sounding classic rock tune under her breath, slowly becoming quiet and closing her eyes.

Alexander says "The bad vibes are coming from two quadrants..."
Alexander warns, still blinded

Sofia says "Next time, stop by the welding supply store, get you a pair of goggles. They have the kind that automatically dims when you are exposed to harsh light."
"Just.. be quiet, for the love of god." Miles blurts out back to Autumn, blinking rapidly until his vision starts to return. He stumbles over towards his quadrant then, panting out, and throwing more bloody salt at his other hand. "Banish! Banish!" He continues to order the dagger, as if might be able to trick it into giving up the ghost.

A section of Sofia's clothing catches fire.

Sofia yelps! And pats herself out!

Alexander stares between Miles, Autumn, and then Sofia as she burst into flames. He takes a moment to react, then blinks and moves to pat the flames off. "Autumn, can you reduce the intensity of the heat!?" he manages

A trail of flames bursts forth from the dagger and into Sofia, setting her alight, and for a brief moment there Miles cannot help but wonder if maybe this curse has some value after all. Then he's back to throwing salt, and repeating his little mantra, over and over.

"You first," Autumn mutters towards Miles, rubbing her eyes before she moves to extinguish the flames off Sofia. "I only make things heat up!"

Sofia has finished patting herself out. It helped that for some reason, all of her clothing is soaking wet.

Miles doesn't have time for the Damned, not right now. He doesn't bother responding to Autumn, instead focusing on throwing salt, and muttering, "Banish, banish, banish." It's not a very original mantra, or even a particularly good one, but it's to the point.

An arc of lightning blasts out of the artifact to strike Autumn, sending her flying.

Sofia says "Oh shit!"
Sofia jerks and ducks, assuming a grounded position. Anyone with a little wilderness lore would recognize it as the position you take to avoid being killed when struck by lightning.

Having taken no deals or bargains for power, and being of mundane blood Miles has never felt the power of casting a spell or flinging fire toward someone. But when that bolt of lightning blasts out of the dagger in his hand, and slams into Autumn For a brief moment, he sort of gets it. There's even a little grin that catches at his lips, though he clears it quickly with a cough, and continues to salt and chant at the cursed dagger.

Alexander flicks his hand out, ringing shining, as vines and earth moves to try to assist Autumn from hitting anything more dangerous.

Sofia says "Hey, Miles, don't think the salt is helping, try some Aqua Vitae. "
Lightning is shot from the dagger, hitting Autumn and causing her to fly out and crash further onto the vines. While she gets up, she notices Miles and grits her teeth as her magic starts to glow more red.

Alexander gives up on the assist, his voice turns low, phrases in a tongue not spoken by any unaware folk. Phrases, that even he probably doesn't understand the nuances of. His blood is drawn, a sharp knife slash to his forearm. and he begins to draw symbols on the blade.

"I don't-" The response to Sofia cuts off as Miles turns his attention toward Alexander instead, feeling the swell and crescendo of the curse, he drives the dagger down into the centre of the symbol that the other man had drawn into the earth beneath their feet.

With a final burst of power the curse on a golden dagger is broken.
