Wild Ride Equestrian Center – Indoor Track South/span
The indoor track curves in a wide, even loop beneath a vaulted ceiling supported by exposed timber trusses, with soft, ambient lighting casting a warm glow across the sand-and-fiber footing below. To the east, rows of beautifully crafted wooden bleachers rise in gentle tiers, each seat outfitted with a built-in cup holder and a small table beside the armrest for added comfort. At the top of the seating, a long rectangular glass pane marks the announcers’ booth, where voices ring out clearly from hidden speakers tucked discreetly overhead./span
It is about 65F(18C) degrees. The mist is heaviest At Mayflower and Darkwater/span
“Are we riding ponies?” Preston asks Dovie, eying the smaller horses with a curious eye. “I don’t think I’m gonna fit on one.”
“Let the pony ride you, Maid Pee!” Malin calls to Preston.
Snickering, Aeryn glances over someone briefly. “Did you get the penthouse contract?”
Snickering, Aeryn glances over Preston briefly. “Did you get the penthouse contract?”
“How does that work, Boone?” Preston calls back to Malin, shifting along the bleachers so he doesn’t need to yell nearly as much. “How do I let it ride me?” And then to Dovie, “I don’t know what a Palfrey is. Is it also named Palfrey?” Bouncing back and forth between people, Preston address Aeryn now. “Nope! Nobody hired me to clean!”
Dovie sighs and shakes her head at Preston. “No, they have different names. No one should ever name their horse, Horse. You don’t name your child, Human, do you?”
“No, but I’d name it child, because it’s a child?” Preston reports back to Dovie, very seriously.
Nemi nods softly in agreement with Preston.
“Easy peasy,” Malin claims Preston’s way, offering, “You cave in to a little horseplay. Neigh-vigating it all is pretty simple. Get on all fours and let it stand on your back the way baby goats like to do, but reverse cowgirl position so that it balances you out and you don’t have two heads in the same direction.”
Kai wanders into the area and gives a wave, then turns to head up to the bleachers where he plops down near Nemi. He waves Sophie over when he sees her, grinning a bit.
Preston thinks on Malin’s words a little bit, darting from Malin to the ponies down below. “I think it’d break my back.”
Nemi turns to Kai and nods softly.
Malin replies to Preston, “Then go work out at the gym more often!”
Kai murmurs something to Nemi and then turns his gaze toward Dovie, stone-faced.
Preston snorts a laugh, “I already DO back day,” Preston pauses and turns to Dovie. “How much does a pony weigh?”
Nemi raises an eyebrow at Kai and looks down to check.
Obadiah comes in and sits down near Aeryn and Malin muttering something about vests being itchy.
Aeryn scoots close to Malin, leaning against her comfortably while she watches everyone enter. Obadiah gets a smile and a wave as he sits, and she arches a brow as he mutters to himself.
Kai glances at Nemi and smirks, he looks away from her and over to Sophie, then to Obadiah, he gives a two-fingered salute to the latter.
Sophie winks at Kai and relaxes on the bleachers.
Nemi waves softly to Obadiah, happily patting the bleacher next to him for him to join.
Nemi then watches him sit somewhere else as she dies inside.
Malin offers up a smile to Obadiah. She clearly isn’t used to any sort of physical contact, but she doesn’t pull away from Aeryn. It takes her a moment, but she relaxes and finally turns her head to look at the other woman, smiling at her softly.
Preston looks at his phone, and then speaks into it. “Hey, Google, how much does a Palfrey pony weigh?” Since nobody answered him, he’s got to figure it out himself.
The short Fairchild steps onto a wooden crate next to a cremello colored mare with blue silk ribbons braided into its hair. She stands up as tall as she can, holding a microphone hooked up to the hidden speakers in the indoor track. “Hello everyone! And welcome to Horseback Riding 101! This is an educational series meant to encourage equestrians and the equi-curious alike! Wild Ride welcomes the Illusium Court and any newcomers to our humble track.”
“First thing’s first. For insurance purposes, if you agree to engage in riding today, you do so at your own risk. Wild Ride is not liable for any injuries that occur. Second, all riders must be wearing a helmet. If you have need of one, the supply shop to the west of here sells them. And lastly, there’s a few ground rules to explain. Today, we’re going to learn the basics of horseback riding. The goal is to build your confidence and learn control while having fun! Before we even mount up, we have to talk safety,” she emphasizes.
Stepping down from the wooden box, Dovie walks towards the mare from the side, showing the crowd. “Always approach a horse from the side, never directly from behind or in front. They won’t be able to see you well and can get startled. Also, make sure that your voice is calm and your movements smooth. Horses respond to energy and tone. Now, any questions? If not, I would like a volunteer from the audience.”
Obadiah gives a two fingered salute to Kai in return before elaborating to Aeryn. “I was not expecting to have to get my bag today. I was just going to sit here and hum Pink Pony club the whole time but noooo someone had to make threats.” He pulls back his jacket briefly to show off the holster under his jacket before closing it again.
Nemi is noticed, and gets a quick wink from her boss before he crosses his legs again, watching the show.
Kai stands up immediately when a volunteer is asked for, his hand shooting up into the air, “Right here! Woo! Dovie! Hello!?” he asks, waving his hand at her.
Sophie touches her head, “Right..head.” She’s about to go get up and go when she sees Kai jumping forward, a little smile follows.
A knowing glance is given to Obadiah. “I did hear that,” Aeryn murmurs toward him before turning to listen to Dovie, giving a reassuring brush of her hand over Malin’s.
Nothing comes out of Preston’s phone and he frowns at it. “I fucking hate robots,” Preston grumbles, and then taps the question into Google himself, like a heathen. “Oh, I bet I could bench a pony,” he states suddenly, eyes filling with glee at the answer. Though he’s listening to all of Dovie’s instructions carefully.
Dovie gestures for Kai to approach the cremello mare, who she pats on the neck fondly. “This here is Pomello, my horse. I’m going to walk you through mounting and seating for the whole audience.” She points to the box next to the mare. “First, you’re going to want to mount from the left side using the stirrup here,” she points. “And once you’re atop the saddle, hold the reigns gently. As if you’re holding two ice cream cones,” she mimics the motion with her hands. “Let’s see what you can do, Kai! And don’t be scared, Pomello is very sweet.”
Malin glances down at the hand that brushes over hers, but she’s very quiet, not like her normal, loud, obnoxious self now. Her posture relaxes further, and then she leans a bit into Aeryn in return finally.
Jenny steps back in begrudgingly wearing a helmet, finding a seat among the bleachers again
Kai climbs his way down from the belachers and approaches Dovie and Pomello, he nods at Dovie, “I’m a great mounter,” he assures her and moves to her left side. He has no helmet on, but he looks at the horse and puts both hands on the saddle, lifts his leg to step one foot into the saddle and stands. He quickly realizes if he brings his leg over, he’ll be facing backward, however, so he steps down, steps back up with the correct foot and swings his leg over the horse, grabbing onto the reins with both hands, “Okay. Easy. How do I not end up like Christopher Reeves now?” he asks Malin.
“Hold on,” Dovie calls out to Kai. “Helmet first. If you don’t have one, you can buy one from next door. We’re serious about safety here at Wild Ride!”
Derek makes his way in with something of a curious expression, walking up to the bleachers and seating himself, leaning an elbow on his leg as he props his chin and looks down at Kai and Dovie as the former approaches the latter.
“There is a terrible innuendo somewhere in that,” Arachne quips to Kai as she arrives with Derek onto the track, the Summer Monarch gliding up onto the bleachers to nestle herself among the courtiers and outsiders. “Which one of you are going to get up on a horse?”
Obadiah gives a quick nod over to Arachne and Derek when they show up, before leaning back in the bleachers. A quick side-eye is give to Kai at his claims of mounting prowess and just mutters under his breath, “Phrasing.”
Dovie takes off her helmet, handing it to Kai. “Here, I’ll be leading and helping instead of riding, so you can use my helmet, once you’ve got it on, I’ll walk us through a few more tips.”
“All right, Kai, this is how you do it like a pro!” Malin lends her reply to Kai. “First, squeeze those butt cheeks together like you are holding in the most treacherous fart of your entire life! Seriously! The horse can sense your commitment back there, and you need to keep your tummy tucked in like you’re bracing for me to slap it, but not so much that you end up passing out!” She adds, “And when you want the horse to stop! You give it a firm kick with your heels into its side! The harder the better!”
“Aw come on….” Kai sighs at Dovie, and looks around, he lets out a huff and starts to get up, but he reaches down to take Dovie’s helmet instead and pulls it onto his head, “Okay,” he nods to her and squeezes his buttcheeks together, arching his back with the force, “Fart contained,” he nods at Malin with a shit-eating grin and sucks in his stomach, “Okay…” he says uncertainly, looking down at the horse’s mane.
“Atta boy!” Malin praises Kai.
Aeryn snorts softly in mild amusement, glancing over Kai. A smile is given to Arachne as she settles herself, and she watches with interest as the lesson begins.
Nemi claps softly, not to startle the horse she almost forgot the name of as she smile sand chuckles softly.
Malin explains to Aeryn, “I’m really helpful.”
Preston settles back, listening to the instructions from Dovie, eyes filled with amusement. Though, he’s eying a different pony dangerously. “I really think I can bench that..” Preston wonders outloud to himself, probably louder than he thought.
The cremello mare whinnies once Kai mounts, kicking at the ground a little. Dovie makes a soothing sound to the mare before telling Kai, and the crowd: “Okay, so you’re going to want to keep your back straight, heels down, and look forward, not at the horse’s neck, okay? To ask your horse to walk, you’ll want to gently. GENTLY,” she says with emphasis, with a look over at Malin. “Gently squeeze with your calves. NO KICKING! And when you want to stop? Just said ‘whoa’ and gently pull back on the reins.”
she turns towards the crowd in the bleachers. “Come on down and claim a pony to ride! Remember, helmets on for riders!”
Arachne stretches out a hand, a single flick of the wrist sending Obadiah’s straw fedora titling at a charmingly rakish angle. “Better,” she murmurs, pleased, before curling her fingers to beckon Aeryn to join her. “You’re too far away, Aerie.”
“You most definitely are,” Aeryn agrees to Malin, grinning.
Malin is staring at Dovie in disbelief.
Nemi nods firmly…. looking about as she hums and smiles softly…. thinking for a few moments as she looks about.
Possibly tugging Malin along with her, Aeryn moves herself to where Arachne sits, canting her head toward where Kai has decided to mount a horse. “What are the odds of this going well?” she wonders as she settles herself onto a bleacher.
Kai lifts his chin to look straight ahead and as soon as Dovie mentions having the horse walk, he lifts both feet, definitely preparing to kick it with his heels until she explicitely says not to. He flares his nostrils in frustration and squeezes his knees and calves into the horse’s side inexpertly.
Nemi walks over to Dovie when the coast is clear and she can safely do so. “Which… Horse would you suggest for someone about six feet in height-?” she asks curiously to the one who probably knows the most about horses.
Malin is easily taken along with Aeryn. It’s a miracle, she isn’t fighting a person for once.
A few stable hands emerge with mounting blocks to help riders who wish to mount their horses. Dovie watches, horrified as Kai is about to kick her precious mare, but when he instead follows directions, she lets out a relieved sigh as the cremello begins to walk foward, slowly, with Kai sitting atop.
Obadiah winks at Arachne when she puts his hat at a different angle and glances at his phone with a pronounced roll of his eyes. “I want this guy to show up just so I can shut him up.”
Dovie turns to Nemi, “Oh, I would suggest either a Welsh pony or one of the palfreys!”
Kai is sitting very straight, very tense on the horse as it moves, “Easy… easy does it,” he says, his features taut, clearly uncomfortable. He doesn’t at all try to make it go any faster, his gaze fixed ahead as he white-knuckles the reins, “Nice and easy…”
“The Palfrey!” Preston replies to Nemi, looking rather smug. It’s a question he’s asked already, but Dovie gets to it first, frowning at himself.
Sophie giggles and says, “Nicely done Kai. You’ve earned a carrot!”
Nemi nods softly, without any fast stride, and staying quite calm… she waits, nodding softly as she walks over to a stable hand near a Palfrey as she smiles softly and eventually… calmly gets on top of one where she starts to try to remember the instructions given.
“The frypal!” Malin calls to Preston.
Derek exhales with some amusement after Arachne’s quip, crossing his legs then and looking down at Kai, then looking back to Aeryn. “…Middling to low.” he offers as an approximation with a ‘so-so’ hand gesture, sighing. His gaze drifts to Obadiah with a flit of his brows. “What, the guy who doesn’t know what a caps lock is? I find his presence…” Derek doesn’t finish that sentence, just trailing off with a ‘womp womp’ sort of downward gesture from his hand. He eyes Kai skeptically as his discomfort is apparent.
“Careful. You know those meth heads have ridiculous strength,” Arachne warns Obadiah aside when she hears his grumbling. “But if he does, just make sure you blast him before he gets a chance to spook the horses.” She turns her head to look at Malin inbound with Aeryn, eyes narrowing playfully at the sight. “First it was becoming my employee, then my cousin’s handler, now my other cousin’s new budding love interest. What next?” she quips in light humor.
“That sounds like a cooking instrument!” Preston replies to Malin. “MAKE SURE YOU ORDER YOUR FRYPAL! MADE OF STAINLESS STEEL AND NON-STICK SURFACE. THIS PAN WILL HELP YOU COOK ALL YOUR THINGS!”
Dovie assures Kai. “Don’t worry, it’s going to be fine. Horses are very sensitive creatures! They can pick up on your nervousness, so try to stay calm. Think of it like this, they’re your dancing partner not your enemy!” The cremello snorts and continues walking in a straight line. “Don’t be shy about claiming a horse, we’ll have a little mini competition once everyone has claimed a horse.”
“That’s actually a good question,” Aeryn muses with wide eyes turned to Malin. “What is next?” The mention of the drugged up individual has her wrinkling her nose a moment later. “Is that the one who wanders around with a hammer?” she wonders.
Jenny looks among the horses moving over to the palfreys. She takes a moment to gauge if its going to freak out. Putting her apple in a pocket she steps onto the saddle like was demonstrated. Once atop she takes the apple back out. Chomping down with a crunch. The other hand moving to gently stroking the horses neck while she waits for instructions
Malin bites at her lower lip as she listens to Arachne, both medium-width eyebrows raising as she’s teased. “I’m attractive to Montroses, what can I say?” she replies, glancing at Aeryn. “A Montrose Thirst Trap. It’s kind of related to a Venus Fly Trap, but I’m the update with internet lingo involved and a much cooler name at the beginning.”
Kai relaxes just a bit when Dovie speaks to him, but he’s still extremely stiff on his seat. Despite this, he does press in on the horse’s sides with his legs to speed it up just a bit, “Yeah, yeah… easy Palmiteri. You’re a good boy,” he tells the horse as he walks around with it, his back straight, eventually he shoots a look to the bleachers and forces a chipper grin.
Nemi eeps as her palfrey almost starts freaking out over the sudden yelling but she softly shushes the horse…. looking over and staring at Preston and Malin with a tiny glare…. but from a distance its not very noticeable as she sighs softly. She relaxes a bit as she sits there, adjusting a bit on the beautifully gray horses back.
Dovie corrects Kai. “Pomello! Her name is Pomello!” before she moves over towards the group of palfreys to help Nemi. “You’re doing great, Nemi! Wonderful job!”
“We should make an infomercial for that, Preston!” Malin calls to Preston.
“Her name is Pony,” Preston informs Kai. “Don’t listen to Dovie.”
“Al Capony! Come on, Preston!” Malin yells more at Preston.
“Yeah, I’ll be the fry guy,” Preston calls back to Malin, “Get me in an apron, maybe half-shirtless,” Preston thinks on it a moment, considering. “You might sell a whole darn bunch of ’em.”
Kai nods in agreement with Preston, “Pony, easy pony,” and shoots a more genuine grin to Dovie as he starts to relax, even though he’s still going at a snails pace on the horse. He does, however, seem at ease in guiding the horse into a turn with the reins, slowly getting used to walking the horse around.
“I can sell anything, I swear!” Malin insists to Preston, still shouting and likely upsetting the ponies.
Arachne shakes her head at Malin with incredulous amusement. “There may be some truth to that,” she allows after a moment, gray eyes sweeping over toward the track as Kai continues his horseback riding lesson under Dovie’s watchful eye. “I’m fortunate that my Fairchild relations are focused instead on other pursuits like their academics, commercial empires and…” She cannot help but to alight from the inside with pride as she shamelessly weaves praises for Derek.
Nemi takes a few breaths in, her iron tight grip on the reigns slowly rests as she nods softly, smiling as Dovie approaches. “Horses hated me when I was smaller-” she states with a nod. “It’s a bit scary being on top of one now-” She admits with a firm nod. “Belly tucked in, butt clenched- No kicking, push my calves in to signal the horse forward…. and whoah girl to stop…” She recites as she nods softly. A firm nod being given.
Malin insists to Arachne, “It means you all have good taste,” in favour of herself.
“It’s….entirely possible,” Aeryn snickers to Malin. “A Venus Fly Trap implies death, though. Which I guess is also possible…”
Dovie nods approvingly at Nemi and Kai. “You too are doing great!” she encourages, as she has a stablehand bring out what seems to be a set of traffic lights.
Sophie runs her hand over one of the four morgan horses, rubbing down their neck softly as she speaks to them in a hushed tone.
“These horses seem like a lot of work,” Aeryn waves an arm in a mix of confusion and frustration. “Look at all the coaxing and petting they need.”
“Something something, la petite mort…” Malin relays to Aeryn with a nod.
“Lots of things need coaxing and petting,” Preston tells Aeryn, nodding at her very seriously.
“I can barely ride the nag I own,” Obadiah mutters before looking at Arachne, giving her a fond, if brief, smile.
Kai leads the horse around the track in a few rough circles at about a walk, eventually he starts to relax a bit more in the saddle, enough to look around at others and focus less on his own, he smiles over at Sophie and nods encouragingly to Nemi. His feet dig in again as the horse picks up a little more speed and he once more focuses on guiding it around in a circle, “Good girl. Don’t throw me. I’d be terrible in a wheelchair.”
“Yes, I tend to not hold a fondness for almost all of those,” Aeryn note aside to Preston, unblinking eyes narrowing only slightly as she observes the lesson. “These kittens that are to be arriving in my loft I’m sure will need that.” Enthusiasm is not present in her expression.
Derek runs a hand through his hair idly, a smile curling at his lips as Arachne describes her familial relations, taking in the praise with some confidence and pride as his attention drifts down to the ongoing horsemanship demonstrations, gaze drifting over between Aeryn and Malin with idle curiosity.
“They make little blue pills for that,” Malin offers helpfully to Obadiah.
Dovie walks over to the traffic lights, speaking into her microphone. “Riders! I want you all to bring your horses over to this line here on the infield.” She points to a white line painted into the grass. “We’re going to try out your skills with a little bit of red light green light! You’ll either have a red or a green light, which means stop or continue! At the end of four rounds, we’ll see who has gone the furthest!”
Aeryn glances at Malin and starts to laugh.
There’s a loud snorted laugh from Preston at Malin’s helpful advice.
Sophie watches Kai proudly, giving him a little proud thumbs up.
Jenny seems to be having a great time so far, ontop one of the palfreys. She looks over to Dovie “How do I have them move forward?”
Dovie speaks into the mic to answer Jenny’s question. “To have the horse move forward, you’ll want to squeeze its sides gently with your calves. Pull gently on the reigns and say whoa when you want your horse to stop.” (OOC when the game starts, you can ‘use light’ to see what you get)
Jenny moves the horse over to the starting line. Not seemingly having much issues just yet, surprisingly. “Oh cool. There you go.” she says patting the palfrey
Malin smiles brightly at Aeryn, if not mischievously.
Dovie beams at all the riders and their steeds, calling out into the microphone. “Alright riders! Let’s get ready for your first…” She points to the set of traffic lights which turns green. “Greenlight!” she calls out! (OOC: ‘use lights’ if you’d like to be in the competition)
Sophie slips a foot into the stirrup and swings her leg over, adjusting herself into the saddle. With a soft pet to the mane and moves them forward.
Sophie uses a traffic lights: The horse steps forward with a few steady sure steps. (+5 points)
Jenny uses a traffic lights: The horse shoots forward, lurching suddenly and breaking out into a gallop. (-5 points)
Aeryn says “Oh this is amusing.“
“Whoa!” Kai calls to the pony and brings it to a stop, he then presses his calves into the pony and goes forward again, urging it on until it’s at a brisk walking pace. He’s entirely absorbed in this task and doesn’t appear to be paying any attention to the game, his features tight, brows furrowed together in focus.
“Hold it in, Kai!” Malin is yelling to Kai. “Clench like your diginty depends on it! That fart escapes and so does all of your credibility!”
Sophie gives the beautiful horse an encouraging pet, “Bravo.” She says with a little nod as she looks over to Jenny and Kai.
“Bravo’s a good name for a horse,” Preston declares with a smile. “Not as a good as Horse though.”
“Whoa, whoa, Jenny, stay calm!” Dovie speaks into the microphone. “When a horse is in gallop and you want to rein them in, don’t pull hard on the reins, that will scare them. Instead, take a deep breath, relax, and sit deep in your saddle. Slide one hand down one rein to bring the horse’s nose gently towards your knee and it will naturally stop!”
Kai clenches up again as he urges, “Whooa…” to the pony, signaling it to stop. He glances to Malin and nods, grinning a bit, but turns back to his kind of sort of self study / practice as he digs his heels in again to urge the pony forward, “That’s it, good girl,” he says, briefly releasing the reins to pat the pony on the side of the neck.
“Have you met my horse? Horse,” Arachne probably mocked Preston, rather than made a joke.
Malin gives a nod of approval at Kai.
The traffic light turns from Green to RED! while Dovie watches the riders.
“You have actually met my horse, Horse,” Preston informs Arachne. “And I told you, you should be riding a horse, because look what happened to us, mm?”
Derek unfolds his phone and starts recording Kai, a little smile playing at his lips, before also tapping out a text message on the other portion of his inner screen.
Jenny lets out a “Aah!” as the palfrey shoots forward. Gripping tightly on the reigns. She almost pulls hard but she hears Dovie. Doing as instructed to finally get the horse to stop. muttering an “Easy there.” to it.
Obadiah watches Dovie and Preston with interest before rubbing his thumb along his nose and at the corners of his mouth, making sure he is crumb free.
Sophie uses a traffic lights: The horse stays still, its tail swishing around. 08(0 points)
Kai bounces along in the saddle, back straight as he leads the horse around the track, now and then urging it to stop until it does. He breathes out a relieved sigh and nods a few times, grinning as he becomes more and more confident in the saddle. He doesn’t notice Derek’s recording, though it would probably show the young man still having some lingering tension as he practices with the pony.
Dovie claps for Jenny. “Great job, Jenny, and the rest of your riders!” The traffic light flicks to Green again. “The winner gets a cash prize!”
Jenny uses a traffic lights: The horse steps forward, but begins to wander to the side. (+3 points)
Sophie uses a traffic lights: The horse steps forward with a few steady sure steps. (+5 points)
Nemi smiles softly and waves to Obadiah every time she passes, making a different goofy face every time as she sighs happily. “Wait what-” She asks as she turns to Dovie.
Nemi uses a traffic lights: The horse steps forward, but begins to wander to the side. (+3 points)
“I have something to take care of,” Arachne murmurs to Malin, Aeryn, Derek and Obadiah, a gentle squeeze given to Aeryn’s shoulder before she slips out of the stands.
“Wait, there’s a cash prize?” Preston asks, and just begins to step off from the bleachers. “How much is the cash prize!?”
Malin gives a nod to Arachne. “I’ll see you later, Arachne.”
Kurt pauses for a beat, a brow raising, “There is? Hm.”
“The cash prize is Fifty Dollars! We’ll do one more round of Red Light Green light after this!” Dovie tells the crowd when the question arises. (For all participants, as long as you ‘use light’ 4 times total, we’ll count the points as a tally!)
Jenny more gently urges the horse forward, but it veers abit off to the side. She tries to geeently take the reigns and straightens the horse back out.
Kurt nods to Arachne, straightening the sleeves of his jacket, “Of course, Miss Fairchild-Montrose.”
Derek lifts his free hand and looks over his shoulder to Arachne with a slight upcurl to his lips, wiggling his fingers as she rises to depart. “Be well, dear cousin,” he intones softly.
Jenny uses a traffic lights: The horse begins walking in a circle, moseying where it wants. (+1 points)
Jenny uses a traffic lights: The horse takes one step forward and stops suddenly, leaning down to eat some grass. 08(0 points)
Obadiah nods to Arachne and leans back to watch the events with the rest of the court
Nemi nods softly, moving in a position to play the next time it happens. “Travel safe Miss Fairchild-Montrose!” She calls out with a wave!
Nemi smiles and softly pets the horse idly as they stay in place waiting for the next round of red light green light.
Sophie uses a traffic lights: The horse steps forward with a few steady sure steps. (+5 points)
“Fifty bucks!?” Preston stomps his way down the bleachers, rather loudly. “I’m gonna win, lemme on.” Strolling his way over to one of the palfreys – coming in from the side, he pats the horse on the flank, “Sup, Mister Panfry. We’re gonna win, yes? I could use fifty dollars.” Up Preston goes, swinging onto Mister Panfry without a lot of elegance, but he manages it by himself.
Malin watches as the riders direct their horses, but occasionally turns her head to look more directly at Aeryn, even if she doesn’t say anything.
Jenny grunts as she doesn’t really get any progress. The horse seems content to munch on the grass.
Dovie claps for Sophie as Sophie moves her palfrey forward. “Excellent job, Sophie!” She calls out towards Nemi. “You’re almost there, Nemi!” (ooc: use light 3 more times, and we’ll calculate scores!)
Sending a quick text, Aeryn alternates unblinking attention between the ongoing game and Malin, glancing over her with a soft smile.
Dovie calls out to Preston. ” We’re almost done with this first round, so you and Mister Panfry can join the next one! Get ready!”
Nemi uses a traffic lights: The horse backs up a few paces. (-3 points)
Nemi eeps softly… wincing a bit as she sighs, taking a breath in as she tries to focus with some confidence.
Nemi uses a traffic lights: The horse steps forward with a few steady sure steps. (+5 points)
Kai still is off kind of doing his own thing, though now or then he looks to the participants and grins, giving them a little whoop of encouragement, but his focus soon returns to his horse and his expression tightens again in concentration as he walks the horse about the tracking, pressing his heels into the horse until it’s going at a light trot.
Preston huffs and puffs but does not blow Dovie’s house down, instead he just waits on Mister Panfry, his trusty steed. It’s not Horse, but it’ll do.
Nemi nods firmly. “Come on girl we’ve got this…. nice and steady forward… thats it.” She whispers, leading the horse on as she smiles firmly.
Nemi uses a traffic lights: The horse takes one step forward and stops suddenly, leaning down to eat some grass. 08(0 points)
Nemi looks forward… and then down… and then just stares silently, looking up and down as she soft pats the horses neck and nods as she makes a ‘welp…. this is my life now’ face.
Dovie claps and calls out into the microphone. “And our winner of the first Red Light Green Light is… Sophie! Great job to the other contestants.” She walks over towards Sophie, offering up a crisp 50 dollar bill. “We have one more Red Light Green Light, if you’d like to join, line up your horse at the white line on the grass!”
Jenny pats the palfrey on the neck. Managing to move her back towards the white line.
“Fuck yeah Sophie!” Kai calls out when he hears the announcement, “Whoooooo!” and then urges, “Whoa,” when his yelling gets the horse a little too excited for his taste.
Nemi nods softly as she takes a breath in and manages to back her horse up as well… after they get a healthy mouthful of GREEN grass.
Preston lines his horse up at that starting line.
Dovie speaks into the mic. “This time we have Preston riding Mister Panfry the palfrey, eager to win big. Will he? Should he name his horse something other than Horse? Absolutely,” she comments before she calls out to the riders, “Get ready and…” The green light switches on.
Sophie uses a traffic lights: The horse shoots forward, lurching suddenly and breaking out into a gallop. (-5 points)
Jenny uses a traffic lights: The horse begins walking in a circle, moseying where it wants. (+1 points)
Preston uses a traffic lights: The horse begins walking in a circle, moseying where it wants. (+1 points)
Nemi uses a traffic lights: The horse stays still, its tail swishing around. 08(0 points)
Nemi dies inside as she takes a breath in.
Derek looks down to Sophie, applauding politely from the bleachers as he observes her victory.
“You’ve got this, Nemi!” Dovie enthuses from the side.
Preston continues to prod Mister Panfry forward. “If you lose, you’re going to lose the Mister.”
“Preston I thought you were going to win,” Aeryn calls down to Preston, as his horse wanders astray.
Preston uses a traffic lights: The horse steps forward with a few steady sure steps. (+5 points)
Obadiah glances down at his phone when he gets his an alert on his phone and frowns before looking back up and giving Nemi and Sophie cheers. “Come on Order girls!” he declares
Sophie contains her yelp and does as instructed, moving her hand down the reins to pull the horses head close as they lurch. She sighs and gives them a pet, “I’m sorry..that was me.”

“WHAT DID YOU SAY, AERYN!?” Preston shouts back – probably startling horses. “I AM GOING TO WIN. AND YOU’RE ALSO GOING TO PAY ME FIFTY DOLLARS WHEN I DO!”

Nemi nods softly, squeezing her calves against the horses side…. but they don’t move…. she just… watches as all the horses take a snack break.
Jenny hands the rest of her apple to her palfrey. “Here girl, nice juicy apple. You seem pretty hungry.”
There’s a little smugness about Preston, one that he shouldn’t be smug about, considering his horse just decided to eat grass instead of moving anywhere. “Horse is so much more obedient..

Dovie narrates into the mic. “We have Preston pulling ahead of the pack, but oh wow, surprise there! Mister Panfry wants a snack! This is a golden opportunity for his competition to get ahead!”
Nemi leans into her horse… whispering softly to them …. something about a carrot…. Or an apple…
Nemi uses a traffic lights: The horse steps forward with a few steady sure steps. (+5 points)
“I have no recollection of this,” Aeryn snorts toward Preston, but she looks amused nonetheless. “We’ll see, I have a feeling that horse is biding its time.”
Jenny uses a traffic lights: The horse stays still, its tail swishing around. 08(0 points)
Nemi almost yelps as that REALLY gets her horse moving forward as she nods softly…. it seems encouragement is appreciated by the horses! Smart animal.
Obadiah says “I regret that I was unable to help more than I did. I should have been there.“
Sophie says “Someone, needs to help me learn how to be more useful.“
Preston continues to edge the horse forward towards whatever. It may not be a proper finish line, but damn right, he’s going to be winning one hundred dollars, Aeryn owes him, after all.

“Whoa, whoa,” Kai says and pats the pony’s neck, he swings his leg up and off, dismounting and then turns right around to re-mount the horse, “Easy…” he says once his ass hits the saddle and he digs his heels in to walk forward a bit, “Whoa!” he calls, dismounts. Like he’s practicing drills with the horse, his features pinched in concentration, though he’s grinning while in the midst of walking the horse.
Dovie continues narrating. “Now we have Nemi pulling ahead while Preston’s looking steady. Jenny and Sophie still have a chance, though!”
Jenny sighs trying to stay patient with the horse patting its neck “Come on. Lets do this!”

Nemi smiles happily as she rides along with her horse, nodding softly. “Almost there… ” she states as she nods firmly.
Very amused when Preston’s horse fails to move, Aeryn barely hides a snicker.

Nemi sighs. “Almost there…. making out way even if in a circle…”
Kai eventually lengthens the drills to do a brisk walk / slow trot around the track, dismounting and remounting at each ‘lap’. He stops after one lap to answer some texts and speak into his sleeve, then he’s right back at it, determination in his bright hazel eyes as he works with the pony.
Kai says “All were in bad shape but in the hospital when I checked in on them.“
There’s a hint of snarky amusement at Preston’s predicament on Derek’s expression, and he crosses his arms as he stares at him for a beat, before his attention drifts off to the other riders.
Sophie giggles as her horse takes a break, “Alright, you win, you’re bigger.” She sighs and looks over to Kai with a smirk before glancing back at someone, “Hard to control something with a mind at times.”
The stable hands cheer for the competitors as Dovie continues spectating. “We have Preston and Mister Panfry in the lead, but will Sophie be the dark horse? Time will tell!”
Sophie giggles as her horse takes a break, “Alright, you win, you’re bigger.” She sighs and looks over to Kai with a smirk before glancing back at Nemi, “Hard to control something with a mind at times.”
Preston sits proudly on Mister Panfry, lifting his hands up, clasping them together and making a celebratory pose. “Aeryn,” Preston calls out, all singsongy. “You better start heading the bank.”
Jenny reaches the end of her tries the horse contently munching, she pouts at it “I gave ya’ an apple.”
“Bets require handshakes, dear Preston,” Aeryn states, looking unamused at the horse that decides to obey just enough.
The traffic light flickers to red, then returns to green as Dovie keeps her eyes on the competitors. (ooc: sophie, you have two more uses before final tallies!)
Sophie uses a traffic lights: The horse backs up a few paces. (-3 points)
“I don’t know, Aeryn,” Preston calls back, slipping off of Mister Panfry, so very smug, and so very sure that he’s going to win. He just walks back towards the bleachers, and settles down next to Aeryn, a bit. “This one was a verbal agreement,” a smile, “so if I win you’ll need to pay the fifty dollars you owe me.”
Sophie sighs and pets her horse, “Are you teaching me humility?” She nudges them foreward, “C’mon.”
Sophie uses a traffic lights: The horse steps forward with a few steady sure steps. (+5 points)
Dovie claps as Sophie’s horse suddenly finishes strong, though Preston and Mister Panfry are already at the finish line. “Great job everyone! And congratulations to Preston and Mister Panfry, who shockingly have won this round,” Dovie pulls out a crisp 50 dollar bill, marching it to Preston before she speaks into the mic again:
“Thank you everyone for coming! You’re welcome to stick around and continue riding if you’d like though that concludes our Horseback Riding 101 lesson! Please stay tuned for more competitions, trainings, and other events here at Wild Ride Equestrian Center!”
Kai trots his way over to Dovie and urges, “Whooa…” to stop near her, he leans over to ask Dovie, “Hey can I text you later about using the track to keep doing practice? I want to get better at this before I go looking for my own horse.”
Sophie happily leans down to kiss the neck of her horse, “Thank you.” She flops softly and relaxes there, just laying on the beautiful animal, “You did good.”
“He’s the luckiest man in all the land, winning all of the things!” Malin proclaims as Preston wins.
Dovie nods at Kai. “Yes, of course you can! Please feel free to text me and we’ll work things out.”
“You hypnotized the horse, didn’t you?” Aeryn looks suspiciously at Preston, but she does extend cash his way, looking mildly incredulous.
Nemi hums softly, smiling as she rides around on the horse a bit more. Looking and waving to Obadiah periodically.
Kai shoots a grin at Dovie and nosd, “Sick, thanks,” and he digs his heels into the horse, trotting off on the horse, “Good girl, let’s go!”
Obadiah glances to Aeryn with a smile and wag of his brows before turning back to the crowd and smile at the contestants returning the wave to Nemi
“Thank you,” Sophie says to Dovie, “This was so fun!”
Aeryn grins to Obadiah, winking at him before giving a very disdained glance back to Preston.
Dovie grins at Sophie, “Glad you enjoyed it! Please feel free to hang out if you’d like too.” She looks over towards Jenny. “How do you like riding? Not too bad, right?”
That’s two fresh crisp bills that Preston just won, and smirks at Malin. “You know it, babe.” It doesn’t seem like he’s hitting on her, he’s just using the term babe to describe Malin, attempting to flex that one hundred crisp dollars he just won, tugging the bills a bit, letting them pop. A smile to Aeryn, “I can’t even hypnotize. I’m just better.”
“Suspicious,” Aeryn decides of Preston, though she does crack a smile, snickering softly.
Sophie looks over at Kai, “Your ass doing okay?”
Jenny gives a nod to Dovie as she guides her palfrey back to where they originally were. Hopping off the saddle “Yeah! Thanks for doin’ this.” she says giving a smile
“Mab has dubbed me ‘Sir Spellbabe’ since I’m her knight and all. Also,” Malin is informing Preston now, “I asked to be a Knightley, like Keira, because adding a ‘lee’ to the ends of words make them sound prettier.”
“Thank you for joining! I hope more people will embrace horse riding,” Dovie replies to Jenny, giving her palfrey a pat.
“You could be Doblee.” Preston mentions to Malin with a big grin. “Doblee sounds good.”
Aeryn nods at Malin, agreeing. “I do like the sound of that. Knightley.”
“Don’t worry! My ass can take a pounding!” Kai assures Sophie as he rounds the track in another trot, guiding the pony carefully, his gaze fixed ahead, a little grin on his face. With the event coming to an end, however, he leads the horse over near to Dovie, urges it to stop and dismounts, giving the pony a pat on the neck, “Good girl.”
“Sir Doblee Spellbabely,” Malin insists to Preston.
Nemi nods softly, after a few moments she guides her horse back as she nods to Dovie with a smile. “Thank you- Honestly. this is amazing!” She says excitedly, but not too loud as she leads the palfrey back.
Malin nods to Aeryn, grinning impishly.
“Is that going to be a nightly occurrence?” Derek quips after Malin, leaning back in his seat casually as he looks down to Dovie, waving once or twice, before looking back to Kai and just staring. “…Phrasing.” he mumbles.
Aeryn promptly drops her face into her hands with Kai’s quip. “I think that’s my queue,” she murmurs.
Dovie blinks at Kai. “What?” But a moment later, Pomello is back at her side, so she rubs the Andalusian on the neck comfortingly, grinning at Nemi. “I’m glad you enjoyed it! Horses are amazing, aren’t they?”
Sophie gives Kai a curious glance, “I have questions, dear boyfriend. Sooo many questions.”
“I sure hope so,” Malin says to Derek brightly. “We have this whole get up and everything. I’m like the coolest knightleys to ever exist, I’m pretty sure. Plus, she gets to carry me.”
Preston snorts at Kai, but turns his attention back to Malin. “Yeah! That’s a very good name. Sir Doblee Spellbabely, the most Spelllee Bablely in the land.” Nodding to himself in approval, he begins to stand up. “I gotta get running, but thanks Dovie!” Preston makes a small round of applause for Dovie, “For the chance to participate in this.”
Kai heads over Sophie’s way and sidles up to her, “What questions?” he asks her, “Congrats at the win by the way,” he says and loops an arm around her and squeezes her against his side.
Nemi nods happily! “Encourages me to get my own…” She states with a soft smile… dismounting the palfrey a moment after, but wait! She reaches into her bag, and pulls out an apple she happily gives to the horse before she walks off back to the bleachers.
Dovie waves to Preston. “Congrats on the win! I expect to hear the new, actual name of your horse soon.”
“HORSE!” Preston shouts and runs off, cackling like a mad man.
Sophie gives Kai a kiss, “I didn’t win though. They did.” She says with a giggle, “And questions I’ll ask you behind closed doors.”
“Yeah but you won the first round?” Kai tells Sophie and starts to lead her over to the bleachers, a chipper grin on his face.
“Wait what!? I did.” Sophie laughs, and then corrects, “Of course i did.”
Dovie hands the reins to Pomello to a stable hand and makes her way to the bleachers.
Obadiah looks up from his phone at Dovie and shakes his head to with arched eyebrows
Dovie waves to Helen. “Oh hey Helen, welcome!”
Kurt turns to Dovie, a faint smile across his lips. “Thank you, again, for hosting this! Even if I didn’t ride, it was very informational.”
Helen waves as she walks up towards the bleacher area, checking out the seating and saying to Dovie, “Hey, Dovie! I hope I’m not too late!”
Malin smiles over at Helen brightly. “Welcome. Preston won.”
“We did just wrap up the lesson, but you’re free to ride the horses if you wish! We have some riders just riding for fun now!” Dovie tells Helen.
Jenny looks over to Nemi looking confused
Nemi smiles as she walks over and sits near Obadiah. “Saw you taking a picture, Wanted to save watching me not crash a horse into a wall?” She asks with a smile.
Sophie leans over and kisses Kai, “Bad.”
Kai leans back to kiss Sophie in return, he hmms and peers about the bleachers, “Did you have fun?” he asks Sophie and ooks to Nemi to include her in the question.
Obadiah stands and ruffles Nemi’s hair before he leaves. “I have matters to attend to. Be safe all.”
Nemi nods softly in agreement. And then looks to Obadiah as her hairs ruffled and she sighs. “Let me know when you’re done- don’t get killed!”
“It seems like I’m quite late, but that is alright, hopefully all the lessons went well? What did Preston win?” Helen asks Malin as she settles down on the bleachers nearby, waving to Aeryn, “Hey, Aeryn!”
“Too much money,” Aeryn replies to Helen with a wave. “Hey there!”
Jenny gives a nod at something tapping away on her phone
Obadiah says “I am the famous Obadiah Mercer. I can’t die.“
“Very well! No injuries and he won fifty dollars. So did Sophie, for a little riding competition.” Dovie explains to Helen.
“Better late than never, as they say,” Malin replies to Helen.
“Don’t you mean neigh-ver, Dobie??” Dovie asks.
Sophie leans on Kai, “Best time ever.”
Aeryn glances over Malin carefully. “I think….yes. What I’ve ordered is appropriate,” she decides a moment later.
“Hah!” Malin laughs at Dovie, and she says, “Hold your horses, you got me there!” and then she stresses to Helen, “The -mane- thing is you showed up!”
Dovie giggles at Helen and Malin.
Malin turns her head to view Aeryn who is seated beside her. “Is it a bunch of those homemade pot holder things kids used to make, crocheted together to make a jumpsuit?”
“I lost track of time because I was saddled with so much work,” Helen explains to Malin, Dovie and Aeryn, “Then when I realized what time it was I galloped right over.” She turns more towards Aeryn, “Or a lot, and I mean a lot, of gelatin?”
Nemi nods softly. “Horses are nice creatures. Unless their wild- Or unless you scare them… treat a horse well and they’ll treat you well. thats all I know.”
“Oh, I don’t think she knows about the cult yet,” Malin relays to Helen about Aeryn.
Dovie giggles at Helen. “So much horsing around!”
Aeryn shakes her head at Malin with a grin, then a laugh escapes as she gives the same shake toward Helen. “Neither,” she manages. “It’s pretty, and hopefully fitting.” Her head tilts a bit. “Cult?”
Kurt lets out a soft chuckle, shaking his head, “All these puns are enough to make one hoarse.”
“Yes, it is a cult for women to combat the woes of mansplaining, and we’re going to wrestle in Jell-O and not let any men watch us,” Malin explains to Aeryn. “And also, I decided to invent a flavour of gelatin named Navel Gazing Orange.”
Dovie giggles at Nemi.
Kai looks around at all the people making puns and smirks, he shakes his head as he texts away and eventually look to Sophie, “Got any plans tonight?” and he calls to Helen, “Hey Helen, add me on MyHaven, I’m Gadfly!”
Aeryn blinks several times. “Wrestle in Jell-O.” Her brows knit together in thought and then she gives a very serious nod to Malin. “For the science? I do like the sound of that flavor, admittedly.”
“Remember not to use real jello,” Sophie says with a public safety warning for all jello wrestling events. Her gaze settles on Kai, “Plans. Hang out with you. Avoid trouble. Maybe cause some trouble.”
“Always for the science,” Malin stresses to Aeryn. “I asked what flavour would be best to lick out of a belly button, and also out of an ear. Navel orange and… I think it’s strawberry for the ear canal.”
Dovie says “Don’t worry at all! It was a nice time and there will be other things!“
“It is an important cult because the woes of mansplaining reach far and wide,” Helen says to Aeryn, adding onto Malin’s information delivery, “It is also so we can resist the temptation that seeps into each and every one of us when a man really lays it on thick with their thinking they know best, Malin and I were struggling earlier because of some book she was reading.” She nods a couple times, “Strawberry for the ear, definitely.” She looks over to Kai, “Gadfly? Oh, I can look into that later!”
“Out of an ear?” Aeryn gives Malin a horrified look. “That seems like a lot of effort.”
Dovie raises an eyebrow at Helen. “But .. Malin doesn’t read?”
“Please do!” Kai calls to Helen, “I have a girlfriend, I won’t hit on you,” he assures and turns to Sophie, “I should probably workout then eat,” he tells her.
Jenny closes her eyes leaning back in the bleachers and stifling a yawn.
Malin nods to Aeryn. “Is it not normal to lick gelatin out of other people’s ears post wrestling?”
Malin raises both eyebrows and glances between Dovie and Helen.
“I have found when a man…” Aeryn pauses, apologetic glance flitting only for a brief moment on her features, “lays it on thick, they’ll stop when teeth are shown.” There’s a nod of satisfaction and she adds, “Or used.”
“Jenny! You add me too!” Kai calls over to her and adds to Nemi, “Hey get Obie to add me too, would you?” he rolls his eyes.
“It was a pop-up book,” Helen says to Dovie as she gestures towards Malin.
Aeryn shakes her head at Malin. “I don’t think out of the ear, no.”
Nemi sighs softly at Kai. “Whats in it for me!!!”
“I’ll pay you twenty bucks if he does,” Kai tells Nemi with a firm nod, a chipper grin on his face.
Derek looks about for a time, before rising. “I’m going to go; text if you need me,” he decides, giving his blazer a brush or two before continuing on.
Sophie nods to Kai, “Workout. Eat. Then come find me and a reason for another shower. Sound like a plan?”
“It had pretty pictures!” Malin declares to Dovie after Helen covers for her. Then she looks back at Aeryn, “So, my mouth needs to stay away from your ears. Got it.”
“Some of the more important parts about how men know better than women and to really make her understand, were scratch and sniff,” Helen adds on to Dovie as she looks over to Malin, “Pretty pictures that just popped out of the pages.”
Kai nods at Sophie, “Yeah I think so. What’re you gonna do?” he asks and starts to type out a text.
“At least don’t put Jell-O in them first,” Aeryn laments to Malin. “Otherwise, it’s totally fine.”
Dovie raises an eyebrow at Helen. “Wherever do you find your books?”
“Probably head to the pizza spot and do some work,” Sophie says to Kai with a little shrug, “Be a useful girlie.”
Malin hmms thoughtfully, but she’s nodding more to confirm what Helen is claiming to Dovie, and trying to keep her illiteracy claims going. “Oh,” she expresses in understanding to Aeryn. “How do we get it out if the Jell-O ends up in your ear, though?”
Kurt chuckles in amusement, before raising a hand in a wave and stepping off. “You all, be well.”
Dovie snaps her fingers at Malin. “Ear condom.”
Kai nods to Sophie, “Give me a ride to the college?” he asks and juts his lower lip out in a pout at her.
“You just have to do those things sans Jell-O,” Aeryn tells Malin, and then she’s laughing when Dovie makes her suggestion. “Those aren’t…they can’t be. They exist?”
Jenny yawns tapping on her phone perking up and looking over to Dovie “What…?”
Malin gasps and tells Dovie, “You’re a genius! Trojan Auditory Muffs — but not for your muff, for your ears. I wonder if… could female condoms be called muff muffs? That sounds kind of silly…” As if this whole conversation isn’t already… and she asks Aeryn, “So, you’re not joining my gelatin cult?”
Sophie leans over and kisses that adorable pout, “Course.”
“Muff..muffs.” Sophie repeats with a lifted brow as she heads out of the bleachers.
Dovie waves to Kai and Sophie. “Thanks for coming!”
“There is already a term that people are familiar with and we just need to coin it and trademark it. We can call them, ‘Ear Buds’ for when you want to listen to your partner, real close,” Helen says to Malin before she offers to Dovie, “I don’t know, that Inkwell place? Malin found the book, not me!”
Kai waves at Dovie, “Thanks for letting me! I’ll text you later.”
Aeryn laughs to Malin. “I’ll definitely observe,” she promises. “Ear buds?”
Dovie waves and Kai and tells Helen. “Oh I wanted to try that place!”
Sophie waves to Dovie, “Thank you!”
“Fair,” Malin says to Aeryn. “I forgot you were into that,” she admits, probably recalling the time they broke into someone’s apartment. “Observing…” A nod is given to Helen. “Ear buds.”
Nemi hums. “I don’t have a rise.” She admits with a soft nod.
“The coffee is pretty good, maybe you and I could go there for that coffee get together we had planned at some point?” Helen suggests to Dovie now, leaning back on her elbows towards the bleacher behind herself, taking a nice, relaxed and casual lean.
Dovie stretches a moment, “Apologies all, I’m in dire need of a nap after that lesson. Thank you all for coming!” and to someone, she nods. “When are you available tonight?”
Dovie stretches a moment, “Apologies all, I’m in dire need of a nap after that lesson. Thank you all for coming!” and to Helen, she nods. “When are you available tonight?”
Jenny says over to Dovie “Thanks for hosting it!”
Nemi sighs softly. “I need to get going- stay safe all-” She asks with a smile as she waves.
“I should be available later tonight, but if not, just tomorrow we’ll figure out a time, okay?” Helen says to Dovie, sitting up now and waving to her, “Have a nice nap!”
Dovie waves to the remaining crowd.
