In the Den
The narrow entry is wrapped in plum and ash rose velvet panels, their matte
texture absorbing the low light. A chandelier overhead, made of winecolored
crystal drops, casts muted reflections across dark stone tiles underfoot. To
the left, an antique brass coatcheck stands quietly attended, its surface worn
smooth with use. The lighting is low, just enough to catch the soft gleam of
fixtures and the faint shimmer of the velvet walls. Directly ahead, a tall
curtain in crushed berry velvet parts gently at the center, hinting at the bar
that waits beyond./span>/span65F(18C) degrees. The mist is heaviest At Mayflower and Franklin/span>/spanTucking his hands into the pockets of jeans so tight it was a wonder his hands even fit in them, Luka scoffs at Kai’s claim “We’ll be fiiiiine” Luka insists happily “It’s all about the confidence. As long as you don’t tell them you can’t fight, how are they supposed to know?” Luka tells Kai with a wink

Kai hmmmms and nods a couple of times at Luka, he looks to Lola, “Okay info-planner, what’s our plan for this?” he asks, his head cocked to one side just a bit.

“This is going to be a simple assassination or… Dissuasion… Plan,” Lola tells Luka and Kai both, wandering to Luka’s side and standing there for a while as she speaks, not quite touching but it’s easy for the two to accidentally bump elbows if they aren’t careful. “From my scoping I’ve discovered that there is a singular, powerful mage at work here, harnessing the power of the natural world to keep this tail-end of the tropical storm stasis’d here in Bayview.”

She glances towards the door, saying, “I don’t know why this mage works for the Court, or what the Court gains from this apart from satisfaction, but that does not matter now,” says the Faeling. “We need to find this caster and take them out- only then will the storm cease.

Luka nods his head slowly “Right.” Luka says, his expression darkening a little. He thinks for a moment, folding his arms over his chest. “I’d rather not take any life if we don’t have to. I wanna see if we can talk to this guy, or at least, like, just knock him the fuck out or something.” Luka expresses his opinion on the matter, glancing between Kai and Lola a moment to see how they were taking his ideas

Kai nods in agreement, “Way too blood thirsty Lola,” he chides, “Like, at the worst we just stab him several times until he decides to stop,” he grins at her a little and glances sidelong to Luka and back to Lola, “But I’m not gonna be involved in any killing shit over this.”

“Oh, shush, that’s why I changed the phrasing to ‘dissuasion’, you big babies,” Lola murmurs, though she does seem disappointed that murder is off of the menu for the group today. “So, two options,” she reveals, clearing her throat. “We can enlist Kai to scry for this person, though we don’t have a name- I do have a physical description,” she offers to Kai as though hoping this alone would be enough for the magicks to work. “If not, we can have Luka put his nose to the ground and sniff them out. Either way we’ll have to brave the storm to find them, so we’ll need to think up a way to keep from getting separated,” she narrates, clicking her tongue against her teeth as she turns to look between both men, settling her gaze on Luka.

“Hmmmm… let’s tie ourselves together and have Luka sniff him out, it’ll take too long if I try to scry for him,” Kai tells Lola and Luka with a little grin.

Luka nods his head twice “Water, especially running water makes scent tracking difficult, but my nose is pretty sharp” Luka ponders, stroking his chin as he thinks for a moment “If you have a description, I can also just get my guys trying to find him. I got eyes on every street corner in this city” A slight exaggeration, but only a slight one. “Tell me what you can about this guy …”

“He’s a man with an unfortunately set of genetics,” Lola answers Luka once Kai makes it clear that his spellcasting might take a good chunk of their time and Luka seems to doubt his nose- which she reaches up in attempt to press like a button while he speaks. “About five-foot-six, bald on top but fluffy around the sides like a monk,” she chatters, chewing on her lower lip. “Illusium robes, Caucasian male, brown eyes, portly, hairy arms… And a sweating condition,” she informs Luka, pausing, pondering. “I… Think that’s it.

Kai nods slowly at Lola’s description of the man, he looks up thoughtfully and glances sidelong to Luka, “Well. You’re up,” he grins at the fellow a little and sticks his hands into his hoodie pocket.

Luka double nods and pulls his phone out of his pocket. He turns away from the group as he starts a phone call. “Boss man, need someone located … No, not friendly … Yeah, we are hurting him … I know that’s extra, you know I’m good for it … Sure thing. Five six, monk bald, illisium court- No, not someone high up … Yes, I’m sure they won’t mind. Mostly …. Dude, just find the fucking guy alright?”

The conversation would go on for about five more minutes before he lets out a sigh and tucks his phone into his jacket “He’s on it. We’ll have the location in less than five by my estimates.” Luka tells the group

“Then Kai, I’ll task you with finding something around here we can tie ourselves together with,” Lola says hurriedly, not wanting to waste too much time on the why and how, simply wanting to get the job done aso the storm will stop beating shutters against windows at night and sweeping young women off of their feet. “Luka, let me know when your man gets a ping, we’ll head out. The next best thing was holding hands, but I’d end up being the monkey in the middle on that one,” she complains, grunting and rolling her eyes playfully.

Kai runs off to search for some rope and some electrical wire that he can use to tie the three of them together, squinting against the rain and wind as he dips into some of hte local businesses for something to borrow or steal, though with the potential destruction caused by the hurricane, he’s got his eye out in the waters themselves too for any likely debris that might work.

It’s not long before they’re out on their way, Luka wading his way through the waters with a grin on his face like the weather didn’t mean a single thing to him. “You guys keeping up?!” Luka calls over his shoulder to Kai and Lola as he pulls them along. “We’ll be approaching him soon, get ready to put on your most convincing business smiles” Luka tells the group with a wink

“Barely- Your legs are too long, Luka!!” Lola calls through the storm as she grabs ahold of Luka’s jacket to help keep herself from fluttering in the breeze like a flag. Being held down by Kai on the opposing end helps, but the little witch isn’t taking any chances. The walk through the storm doesn’t take long at all- a dip down an alley, a left turn, and they they’re standing before an iron door that leads into the back of what is an old speak easy with a ‘FOR SALE’ sign smacked onto it. “Here,” she decides, her eyes flashing with something malicious as Luka comes to a stop before it, his information having lead him to this hole-in-the-wall. “Inside of here.

Kai lifts his nose and sniffs as well, his ear cocked, but with the weather, his enhanced senses probably aren’t of much use. He trudges along through the flood water with Lola and Luka, his hair plastered to his face as he looks around, searching for the balding little mage who has inconvenienced the city so.

“Iron? How the fuck are the Illusium court getting in and out of an iron door?” Luka wonder, holding up an arm to keep Lola back from it in case she accidentally reaches out and touches it. He saunters up to the door, looks it up and down, and decides to try his luck. “Oh little pig, little pig, please let me in …” Luka muses under his breath as he brings up his foot and slams it into the door!

“Iron wha- Eeee!” Lola squeals, having forgotten where she was or what she was doing for a moment and thusly being caught off guard by the sudden down-kicking. She gasps for breath, lifting a hand up to cover her mouth- if the door being kicked in hadn’t alerted whoever is inside to their presence, well, Lola’s girlish, high-pitched screaming had. “K-Kai, can you go first?” she wonders, her fingers still curled into Luka’s jacket as he holds her back from the iron door. She gazes into the darkness, squinting her eyes, and those with dark vision can see several figures within, some sitting, some standing, all completely still, and all turned to face the back of the building where Luka, Kai, and Lola now stand.

Kai glances at Lola and Luka, he blows out a breath but ultimately heads forward, untying himself from the other two as he goes, “Hello? Is anyone in there?” he asks, feigning an inability to see the figures as he heads into the building, his eyes scanning for the faces and numbers of the occupants, “Our car got flooded and we need somewhere to ride out the storm!” he calls.

Luka took a very different approach to the approach Kai was taking as he confidently strides into the building, flashing each figure in sequence a confident smile and keeping his chest puffed out. “Alright, alright. The flood was funny, but the game’s up. Pack up and head home or my buddy here is gunna show you why he was interstate full contact Shotakon champion five years runnin'” Luka says, pointing a thumb over in Kai’s direction. “Also, I’ve got a gun.” He adds onto the the end.

Silence at first as Kai speaks, the group seeming to nearly fall for his social graces an requests. It’s enough to make someone by a wall flip up a light switch, suddenly illuminating the room where almost every single man looks the sae. Dark, balding hair. Stubbly beard that goes to the throat. Dirty socks with the sandals that Jesus walked on water in, A bit of adult acne, but in varying heights from short to tall, and some even have ponytails. “What the heck, man? We’re trying to have a freaking Commander tournament!

Kai rolls his eyes a bit at Luka but follows suit, ascending the stairs, drawing a knife into each hand as he scans the faces of the dorks, “We’re here to stop this stupid fucking hurricane. You guys have had your fun. Give up the guy who’s behind this and the rest of you don’t have to have your uh… cards taken from you,” he guesses at what Commander is and might involve.

“Holy shit, this fucking sucks” The acute nosed Werewolf says, gagging as the musk of unwashed TCG player’s assaults his nose. “Kai, please tell me you brought deodorant with you.” The once confident wolf staggers back from the room once it’s revealed the threat they were facing was far more formidable than he’d hoped. “You guys better fucking pass up whoever it is that played the fucking island card before we start taking your ultra rares out of their sleeves and playing games with sweaty fingers.” Luka threatens before looking to Lola “Please tell me we didn’t get the right place …”

“Wait, wait, wait, calm down, man- listen, it was just a joke. There was just this smoking hot lady- she twisted our arms!” His arm, most likely. The ringleader, a squat, portly guy whose opponent wears a My Hero Academia shirt and looks ready to bolt for the door. “I can’t just /stop/ the ritual. I’m waiting for her to come back and play a game with us- I was going to teach her how to play Warhammer,” she says, grinning a greasy grin as he pushes his glasses higher up on his sweat-slick nose. “She smelled so pretty.” It smells horrible in here, by the by. Like sweat, arm pits, and unwiped rear ends. Deodorant can’t fix God’s mistake. “Yeah,” says another dude in the back. “She had her legs out and everything! It was a score!

“She’s not coming back, so… you’ve got a couple of choices. The first is you can lower the spell and terminate it and we all walk out of here nice and easy. Or the other option is that this guy is going to turn into a giant wolf and rip your from butthole to neck,” Kai indicates Luka

Luka double takes over to Kai as he gets put back into the muscle roll “Wait, I thought you were doing the asshole ripping? I don’t want to touch these guys” Luka complains, looking the neckbeards over with a shudder. He double takes between the neckbeards and Kai before he takes a cup from the room and heads over to the sink, and fills it with water.

Walking up to one of the neckbeards he passes him the cup of water “Here, drink this.” Luka instructs the man before waiting for him to do so. The moment the man does so, his mouth full of water, an open palm cracks across his cheek, sending both the cup and the water in his mouth flying. “Now stop being so goddamn thirsty and turn off the fucking flood.”

“Oh, thanks man- Ow owowowo owowowowow ow ow ow!” says the chubster, who sprays spittle-filled water all over the guy to his right, and then that guy who was halfway through with a can of Mountain Dew sprays /that/ all over the guy across from him at the table that he had been playing against. “Oh gross! Party foul, what the Hell! Ugh!!” Many people begin to mutter under their breath, and some folks are already packing up their cards, their dice, and their mini figures.

“Freak, man… Alright. Alright! Just chill out,” he says, frowning as he cups his cheek and lifts up a Magic the Gathering card that has an odd silvery sheen to it. So do four other mages in the room. “We’ve just been maintaining a weather spell.. That’s all,” he mutters under his breath, and in unison the four mages rip their cards in half and a strange rumbling shakes the building. Outside, soon, the swirling clouds above begin to dissipate. The sun shine peeks down from the heavens. The rain stops, and soon the flood with recede as well.

“Oh. Well that was easy,” Kai snickers and says, “Later gents!” and he heads back out into the formerly flooded streets, “Well… nice job guys, I guess I’ll go do… o ther shit,” he waves at Luka and Lola, “Teamwork!” he calls out with a smirk.

Luka lets out a sigh as he watches the guys tear apart their magic cards. “Really? /magic/ cards?” Luka asks with a sigh before he heads off, giving them both a wave “Lola, meet me at stop 219? I need to snatch Orla out of the mists”
