In a ritual chamber
This basement room has had all flooring stripped to reveal the rock below.
The walls are painted black with red symbols of dubious meaning covering
them. On the floor is a perfect circle, painted in red. A faint
dusting of chalk suggest additional symbols are added to it as needed.

It is about 65F(18C) degrees. The mist is heaviest At Birch and Madison/span>/span(Your target stumbles upon a street artist whose graffiti literally comes to life. The seemingly benign chalk drawings of mythical creatures begin peeling off the walls and attacking passersby. The artist claims they can’t control it anymore – something is hijacking their gift and turning their creations violent. The characters must stop the animated art before it causes casualties while uncovering who or what is corrupting the artist’s power.)

Amber stumbles through an alley carrying the corpse of an oversized rat – this alleyway appears to be full of particularly interesting graffiti murals depicting mythical creatures, such as demons, manticores, the usual mist monsters you see every day in New Haven. A man with a spraycan is putting the finishing touches on one as Amber approaches, covered in streetwear with an orange bandanna covering his mouth.

Amber slows down as she hauls the thing, eyeing the man then the murals, “Not your usual graffiti, eh?” She hefts the body a bit as she carries it still, getting a better grip, “This your gallery?”

The guy turns his head, squinting, and nods – but there’s more movement behind him. The gryphon, done in chalk, appears to be peeling itself off the wall – and makes a wild swipe for the artist’s head with a materialized claw as he’s distracted!

“Oh shit!” Amber calls out, reaching as a reflex to try to yank the artist out of the way, dropping the corpse in the process.

As Amber tugs the graffiti artist away from the threat to his life, he stares with boggling eyes at the huge beast that has stepped out of his imagination and directly into reality. It emits a throaty squawk as it rears up, slashing at Amber with its two front talons!

Amber attempts to back out of the way, likely stumbling over the giant rat corpse she’d just dropped. She kicks it at the griffon, “Take it! Better snack than me! Fuck off!”

The chalk beast shreds into the corpse and grasps it with its beak, eviscerating it. The foul stench of offal fills the alleyway, giving Amber a chance to escape. The artist is seated, petrified, where he’d been yanked.

Amber pauses at the corner of the alleyway, just before she’s out of sight. Pulling the artist out of the way was reflex. She seems to have no real attachment to his life beyond that. But she hesitates that one moment before she hisses, “Better get erasing,” to the artist, hoping he can at least prevent more. But mostly she hopes the griffon doesn’t give chase as she shamelessly leaves the guy behind after that.

The sounds of screaming mortal and vicious beast erupt from the alleyway as Amber leaves, keeping herself safe by choosing a different path home tonight from the strange living murals.
