It’s late afternoon on Panama street and Nemi is heading down the street after leaving Obie’s Tacos. It’s not very busy around here. There is so many empty shops one might walk past in this town. This leaves a lot of room for the population to grow and rents are dirt cheap but it also allows vagrants to hide out in abandoned buildings all the time. Just as Nemi passes a nearby empty shop with a broken window she hears noise inside. It’s a sharp thud followed by a masculine scream inside. If she was ten seconds earlier or already past she never would’ve had a chance to hear the noise.
stops in her tracks, small dual taco taco box in hand she sighs softly as she sits taco number one next to its similarly scallop, cheese, lettuce, sourcream, dorito chip crumbles sibling all in a hard shell as she sighs softly. Closing the box she looks at her delicate hands and the splatters of blood from the earlier raid and reaches behind her backpack to start getting at the sheath. Funnily enough Nemi was never not well equipped. Taking out the three blade halves she started to work the complex interlocking mechanisms together to form the buster blade. Heavy and impossible to carry for most normal people, especially this constantly. But then again, who said she was normal? She worked on fishing out her grippers next as she slides the darkened steal gauntlets over her hands. Protect the parts the wield your weapon or face losing them. Clack. Clack. Clack. Clack. tap tap tap tap, fingers drumming to the beat of the sound as she puts the taco box down and climbs in through the broken window of the empty shop.
There is more sounds of scuffling from within the shop as Nemi takes some time to get ready. But it’s fortunate she’s carrying around her gear. Once she passes through the entry way she finds the inside of the shop only lit by ambient light from dirty windows. There are two figures outlined in the darkness, one distinctly feminine and one masculine in shape. They face off against each other, both armed with makeshift weaponry of some kind, a 4×4 block of wood for the man and a piece of rebar for the woman.
Nemi sighs softly, squinting a bit as she looks into her bag, no flashlight, of course why would she luckily have one of her most important items when she actually needs it? Of course there’s no way she’d have it. She sighs softly as she yells out. “HEY! DROP THE WEAPONS AND COME INTO THE LIGHT SLOWLY YOU TWO! YOU REALLY DON’T WANT ME TO JUST START SWINGING!”
Nemi yells out into the air as she drags the blade behind her, why? A few reasons, intimidation mostly as it crackles and sparks against the ground if its concrete, or just crackles if its wood.
Both figures cock their heads, briefly glancing to Nemi. It’s the woman who speaks first, “Help me, this guy attacked me. I think he’s trying ot rape me!” followed by a quick retort from the man, angry as he points his 4×4 at the woman, “Don’t listen to this bitch, I’m security for this property and I found her squatting. She ambushed me.” it’s word against word and Nemi can’t see either well enough to really look for clues in their attire for who’s telling the truth.
Nemi stares. “Do I need to knock both of your asses out and DRAG YOU OUTSIDE?!” She yells out in a clearly ‘not playing around tone’. Come on…. a lightswitch, anywhere? She looks around but its so dark so she might not see anything. “FINE! Male! What road are we on if your security!” She yells out.
“Panama” the man says back followed by a quick snapping of the woman, “I knew it was Panama too!” The woman steps forward to swing her rebar at the man but it’s more of a warding blow to see if he’s paying attention, which he is and he quickly steps back a pace. “Alright, I’m bullshitting you. I heard there is was a vampire in this neighborhood preying on people in the alleyways and camping out in the buildings around here.” the man says, changing his story. “You look like someone who cares about this sort of thing, help me take down this vampire bitch.”
“He’s lying, or he’s a vampire who wants to eat us both.” comes the voice of the woman with attitude.
Nemi grumbles something about garlic as she sighs softly. Thinking for a moment she looks between the two…. smiling softly she has an idea. Watch the shadows, watch for a reaction. Newer or feral or well… even starving vampires are attracted to fresh blood…. As such she takes her free hand and in the shadow created by her shield cuts her hand on her blade. Waiting to look between the two for an immediately fuck up, a reaction in the heat of the moment that would give either one away.
A flinch gives away the game, its the feminine form that can’t control her movements at the scent and sight of fresh blood, plus its obvious she can see just fine in the dark. The man doesn’t really get whats going on as he’s too focused on watching the woman for an attack. A growl follows from the woman then she points her rebar at the man, “This prick is one of those Vigil guys. You help him and he’ll probably kill me or enslave me.” she then attempts a hail mary at convincing Nemi, “You don’t agree with the Vigil do you? You don’t want them to have another slave. Let me run away. I wont come back here.”
Nemi cackles softly. “Look- I can tango with you- He can’t. And if he is vigil he does’nt get away with you either way because I can tell you’re winning the fight so far…. So even if I curb you. He does’nt get away. And he does’nt get away with you. Order won’t let either of those happen and I can’t either.” She says with a soft smile. “So, there’s only two options I’m happy with you two. Make the choice. Set the weapons down. Hands behind your back…. Or, I rough you up, and call some order officials anyways to tote you off non the less.”
Nemi gives another step closer, and another, watching the two figures closely as she drags her blade against the floor. More imposing strength as she closes the gap. “What will it be guys? Rough night of sleep? Or backing off while you still have the chance?”
Exhaustion is unmistakable in the sigh of the man as Nemi reveals her faction and her demands. “Butt out of this Orderite, I can take a fledgingly vampire if you butt out.” the woman retorts with a laugh, “Haha, fuck you not a chance.” to the man, or maybe to Nemi. It’s hard to tell who is talking to who in the dark sometimes.
Silence follows for a split second, then a click and a mechanical shot of some-kind. The sound of a taser and the resulting squeal from the woman reveal she’s been tasered and she promptly drops to the floor. The man seems to think Nemi wont interfere as he tells her, “Now back off, or I’ll have to drop you too. This one’s coming to meet Vigil justice.”
Nemi tsks softly, looking at the dropped woman, watching the taser closely she smiles. “Oh you should not have said that….” She states, another hand behind her back, the tower shield parts for penance…. and its wooden- A taser is going to be impossible to use with that between them, let alone the time needed to reload it if she doesnt just act, as she starts slapping together the hulking beast infront of her as she begins to charge forward into the man, Pin and disable tactics. Best to squish the injured guy as she has the chance!
For some reason the vigil man didn’t think Nemi would honestly come at him, he was already on his way to collect the vampire woman before she recovers from the thens of thousands of volts through her nervous system. Nemi manages to body the man with the shield, knocking him onto his ass. “What the fuck. You stupid orderite! She’s a killer. Let me stop her” he shouts even as he tries to regain his footing, Nemi is now between him and the woman who’s already starting to gather her senses
Nemi grunts, looking down at man in disgust. “Oh Shut UP!” She yells, bending over and grabbing his head before slamming it into the ground, a show of force, and with the intent to knock him out before she stands up to focus on the fledgling with a sigh. “Don’t bother getting up or I’m gonna do the same to you.”
It’s not quite that easy to subdue two hostile individuals as one person. Even if a little stronger. The man doesn’t simply let Nemi smash his head, he throws up his hands to grab her wrist and struggle with her while the fledgling gets to her feet and flashes a grin, “Thank you Order-girl.” Unless something changes, Nemi’s interference is going to cause one of the two to get what they want, the vampire will get away to potentially cause harm another day or the vigil will take down the vampire with Nemi’s help.
Philosophically if Nemi did nothing, the Vigil man would’ve subdued the Vampire, either to enslave her or execute her. Harming one ‘life’. By interfering to allow the vampire an escape, she may have jeopardized many lives. She’s got her last chance to make a difference here. Does she let the vampire get away while she struggles with the man. Does she attempt to put him out of the commission so that she has a chance to get the vampire too?
Nemi looks between the man, she could stall, But…. she also could do something. Think, Think, THINK! She has two projectiles, A shield and a sword, the shield could easily knock the vampire flat on her ass but not for good. The sword would do much of the same but not for good. But it kight buy her time, so she drops the shield, aiming to pin the mans head in an awkward position to force him to not get up as she runs over to try and pin the vampire down.
No one could accuse Nemi of being a quick planner in the heat of the moment. Dropping her shield on a guy isn’t exactly zip ties or tranquilizers for subduing someone. She does drop her shield and it clonks the vigil guy on the head to daze him a few moments longer. Nemi is already sprinting off after the fledgingly who hasn’t made it yet to her destination which was the back door of the shop. Nemi has a chance to tackle the vampire, but she’s entirely exposed to whatever the vigil guy might get up too if she’s engaged with the vampire.
Nemi moves, running after the vampire at a quick pace, she might be able to take a shot or two from behind with a real gun, but if she could tackle the vampire fast enough she might be able to draw her rifle and get a beat on the vigil, but she needs to worry sbout that after she takes down the fledgling as she runs full force into them from behind.
Like a linebacker sacking the quarterback from behind Nemi runs over the vampire and takes them both down to the floor, crushing the vampire beneath her and pinning her beneath Nemi’s weight. The only real problem is that she can keep the vampire pinned indefinitely while on her but she’s helpless. Thats just what the vigil guy needs to find his weapon he must’ve misplaced. A hammer cocks and the man stands a few feet away pointing a revolver at the pair. He sounds absolutely fed up as he demands Nemi, “Thats enough honey. Tie her up for me then get the hell out of her. You and I both know the Order will let this one go and never solve this problem like I can.”
hell out of here*
Nemi takes a breath in. Defeat? Maybe, maybe not, he’s got a beat on her, a good one, but he’s injured, dazed maybe. She hasn’t got time anymore. She’s not got a pistol of her own. But she’s got something he lacks. Survivability, and the blessing of a rising moon. She gets off the vampire lady first, seemingly complying as she gets to her feet and holds her hand out for rope, it isn’t like she has her own. But her other hand is covering her mouth, with the papm facing away from her?
Without taking his eyes off Nemi the man keeps the revolver trained on the orderite first then down at the vampire as he fishes in his pocket with his offhand for some zipties, he tosses them at Nemi for her to catch them. “Tie her. You know if she got away and killed someone how would you be able to sleep with that?” theres the chance, he shakes his head dismissively and breaks eye contact just for a moment to do so.
Nemi reacts fast, the talking, the thrown cables, moving to catch them? No way, Wait, her hands moved and there’s pale gray lipstick, quickly fading. The demigod chose to bless herself. Quickly the hand outstretched to her mouth darts, not to snatch but to overpower the gun downwards away from the vampire, wether she or the vampire got shot doesn’t matter anymore. Only a stake to the heart will end the vampire. And now she had the blessing of her own making, a few rounds she could live with.
BANG the gun goes off and the shot kicks Nemi center mass. Her risky attempt to deflect a loaded gun to save a vampire has backfired and seen her hit square center. The revolver is low penetration but high impact, its like getting punched. Despite everything Nemi’s world goes dark. She’s not dead, she’s not even that wounded, the bullet passed through and through without hitting anything major and the bleeding wasn’t all that bad thanks to her blessings. But when Nemi comes too she’s alone in the darkness of the shop as the afternoon is already turning to dusk. There is signs a body was dragged away, likely the vampire being captured while Nemi was left incapacitated. She’s failed to save the vampire, some might even think thats a good thing as the vampire could be a threat to society. But for an orderite. It’s still failure thanks to trying to save everyone and be the hero of a difficult to win situation.
Nemi coughs softly…. another dumb lack of choice. She couldn’t choose. She couldn’t even save the vampire and get them out of here. Useless .. too slow … to weak. Not fast enough in any world not quick enough. She hated having to choose over and over and over she wanted things to just work out where she didn’t. She winced as she placed her hand over her gut. She should put out an alert for the vigil hunter, maybe they could track down the two and solve what she failed to do. She just needed him knocked out, and then to get the vampire but ahe failed to do both. She failed to just, pull the trigger. Tiring really. She doesn’t want to fight for supernatural supremacy nor human supremacy but neither side gives or gets. Any time she tries it fails and currently? It burned with this gunshot wound being a reminder. A permanent reminder of someone she couldn’t save, and someone she couldn’t stop. With a few bandages she seals the wound to get ready to go to the hospital, she was alive at least. She coughs and sputters softly as she grabs her shield and sword to stand up. She needed to get stronger, she was too weak for a situation like this, she got too cocky. She looks back towards the shop. “I’m sorry…” She whispers, she failed to stop the man without killing him and she failed to get the fledgling off a path of enslavement and off the path of feeding off humans. She needed to grow, and grow fast.
