[Sun Nov 9 2025]
At A Rowdy Pirate Bar within the Belly of a Ship
The bar is hewn straight from the ribs of an ancient hull, its curved timbers arcing overhead like a cathedral to salt and tar. Lanterns swing from frayed lines, throwing brass-warm light over a counter made from a ships rudder and stools cut from capstans. Nets drape the rafters with glass floats caught like captive moons
a battered figurehead stares from the far bulkhead, one eye replaced by a coin. The air tastes of brine and dark rum, with undertones of pitch and citrus peel. Sea charts paper the walls beside rust-kissed cutlasses
every plank underfoot creaks with a tide that isnt there.
To starboard, an arm-wrestling tableiron-strapped, scar-scoredsits beneath a bell and a chalkboard of winners
the wood bears dents the size of knuckles and the sweat circles of tankards slammed in victory. Portside, a trestle hosts Dead Mans Dice: a skull-carved cup, bone dice yellowed with age, and a ring of eager faces lit by the hush before a roll. At the stern end, the fighting pit drops a step lower, roped with old hawser and padded with sawdust and sailcloth
a painted mermaid on the pit wall keeps tally marks like teeth. Drums thrum when a match begins, the crowds cheers lifting with the lantern smoke, and above it all the hull groans softly, as if the old ship approves of every wager and roar.
It is about 50/span>10C) degrees. The mist is heaviest At Beacon and Sidney/span>Obadiah looks around and mutters under his breath to the rest of the party, “Four Fae walk into a bar….”
The group comes through what appears to be a full length mirror near the bar. This is the GodRealm and people arriving via mirrorgate is not uncommon. As they pass through the mirror there are a myriad of hoots and hollers at the offworld newcomers. Their clothing certainly does not indicate they are native to the Godrealm and perhaps Jakem is the closest to fitting in with these haphazardly dressed ruffians and scholars of the ‘account’ as it is sometimes called. The tavern is built into the hull of an old hulk of a ship and for the most part everyone is humanoid… Oh except the one with fish fin ears… another one with lizard scales and a tail… Okay there is a lot of fleshforming going on in this room, in fact there are fathered monkeys akin to the yellow brick road swingings from the nets hanging from the ceiling.
Meanwhile Matias says to the group, “Oh and if you need to cheat to win just do no get caught.” and then asks, “Four?”
There appear to be several prominent activities in this bar besides drinking and telling tall tales… Arm wrestling. Liars Dice. Pit fighting. Each one stands out and has their own crowds watching various matches going on. Currently the arm wrestling champion appears to be a one-armed woman with razor sharp teeth and a right arm that would put an incel to shame with the corded muscle and thickness it has. Meanwhile in liars dice there appear to be a group of four with two more spots playing one of them is even wearing sunglasses, indoors… in the fighting pit there is no match ongoing but there is a lizard like hulk ready for all comers.
Jakem nods to Matias “it’s the prelude to a song that parodies the creation of the mount Rushmore.” he comments idly as he gives a big crooked grin to the room. “Hey all, we’re here to play; cut us in so we can make your day.”
“He thinks I spend too much time around you lot,” Teagan says absently in response as she steadily takes in the bar and it’s resident hooligans. Denizens? Occupants? She does unzip her jacket, looking absolutely out of place in yoga pants, tank top… at least she’s got sturdy boots on. The rapier might help a little, but end of the day: she is certainly and clearly not a local.
[OOC – Games will operate on the try mechanic. Cheating is allowed if you do not get caught. Just convey how you are cheating if you are.]
Jakem looks to Teagan “So which one you want? The arm wrestler or the lizard hulk?” He asks with a solemn expression.
“I had hoped for liars dice, but if I have to fight the lizard hulk can we at least do rock paper scissors?” Matias suggests to the group.
The Latino professor is looking at Obadiah while talking about the lizard hulk, perhaps suggesting he was hoping Obadiah would be their brave champion.
“I don’t cheat,” Obadiah says in a dry tone, defending the allegations that have never been disproven fully and then takes a look around, “Point me where you want me. Lizards can’t be that bad right?”
“I wouldn’t want to take either from you,” Teagan says to Jakem with a smile his way. “I’ll just cheer you on and who knows, maybe you’ll go home with both of them tonight.” She crosses her arms, fingers absently tapping against opposite elbow. “Liars dice for me or I can just circulate and keep an ear out. I don’t want to come out of this with a broken curse and broken limbs.”
Jakem whispers something to the doll as he pulls it from his bag. The little version of Kai looks vapidly wide eyed at his direction before the green-haired punk approaches the woman with cocky tilted grin. Where’d the doll go though?
The doll, it seems, has been given a little saw and has gone to work on one of the table legs while Jakem moves to distract the woman. “Hey there, heard you were the champ up until today? How about I take that heavy mantle off your shoulders for a bit?” he asks, not sitting yet at her table.
It was only a matter of time before yoga pants wearing female from earth catches the eye of someone drunk. The fact that it is a breeches wearing swashbuckling lass with dark red hair, a green velvet hat, and a six foot stature perhaps just means its not a sexist thing and just something pirates of all genders do. Putting a hand on Teagan’s shoulder the size of her head the accent on this pirate is decidedly french and ridiculous, “Look at you mon petite. You said you were going to play dice, yes… Tell me, how do you tumble?”
Meanwhile as Jakem approaches the armwrestling champion, the one-armed sharptoothed femfatal she grins, “Oh aye, that would me but if you want dis mantle you better have the mettle to take it!” she puts her elbow on the well worn wooden surface.
Obadiah walks towards the pit and rolls his shoulders and looks over the Hulk before leaning against the edge and looking around for a the fight organizer. “Alright. I’ll take a chance at the lizard.”
There is a light touch to Obadiah’s arm as Teagan offers him well-wishes with the fighting pit: “Just think of the bragging rights.” There’s a wink for him, but anything further is forestalled as she feels the weight of a hand on her shoulder and turns to look- up at the pirate that has approached her. She blinks a couple of times, blue eyes regarding her over the edge of those black frames. “Not as well as I drink I’m afraid,” she says with a flash of a smile. “I’m afraid I’m better at cards and dice. Why don’t you teach me the rules?”
Jakem sits down gingerly on the chair, not entirely sure the doll won’t sabotage that next, but eventually you just have to trust to fait. He casts the woman a cocky grin, and with a sinewy muscled arm layed out to her bodacious biceps and terrible triceps, it looks like he has little shot at this.
As they start, he does indeed start to waver, his hand being pushed back slowly. But it’s his leg that responds to the plodding onslaught of strength of his opponent as he gives the right table leg beneath her arm a firm kick, causing the table to jostle, shudder, and partially collapse. A startling enough suprise to give him the upper hand as he slams her hand down. “Good show, good show.”
While Jakem is currently using not only his wits but a devilish tiny Kai doll to attempt to win at arm wrestling Obadiah approaches the large lizard person. It is not a lab coat wearing lizard man with black pants one might remember from the old spiderman cartoon. Instead it is a trenchcoat wearing, white pant toting, lizard man. The humanoid is easily two feet taller than Obadiah and when the man says he is ready for a go one of the net hanging feathered monkeys that looks like a chimp macaw starts hooting over and over before declaring, “Challenger! Challenger! One more for the mast! Come watch, come see, him get handed his ass!” and with that whimsical declaration there is a cheer as many begin to rush the pit. Despite the interest arm wrestling and dice still have their audiences and Matias seems to have vanished maybe near the bar, but he is gone from easy sight.
The arm wrestling goes to Jakem with some surprised clapping and a heavy exchange of coins and notes of value between the pirates. The one-armed woman squints at Jakem and gets up with a roar, “Thems bad luck, I demand best of three!” and she flashes her toothy maw at Jakem clearly willing to tussle should the Fae man refuse her demands!
The tall velvet hatted, french pirate that has gotten their hands on Teagan walks her over to the barrels and table that make up liars dice. “Oi it is easy… You roll dice. Six to start. You guess the numbers five fives, six fives, eight fives, how many are hidden under the cups… You guess right you win, someone challenges you and is wrong, they lose a die. When you run out of die you lose. Last one standing they win!” She forces Teagan to sit on a barrel and then sits beside her, looping an arm across her shoulders and leaning in. “What do you have to bet shorty?” clearly the pirates do not know earth slang or this might be wildly inapprorpiate!
The lizard man with white pants and a brown trench coat leap into the fighting pit and awaits Obadiah to join him. As the feather monkey sings, “Fight! For your right! To laaaaargess.” because these of sophisticated pirates with good vocabulary. As soon as the very bad fight start goes out the lizard immediately rushes Obadiah trying to overwhelm him with ferocity and no time to prepare. In the clash between lizard and man (and maybe beast) the Lizard manages to get Obadiah stuck in the corner of the pit in the first part of the bout!
Jakem gives a sly smile to the woman, stepping back with an elegant bow “It is the way of us three, that one will challenge, then the other it will be. Switching partners, round and round. If you challenge me, the redhead steps up to the mound.” he says, moving back to the dice table to search for a poor, besotted redheaded shield.
The one-armed razor toothed woman seems thrown off by Jakem volunteering a top heavy 5’4 redhead to defend his victory for bout number two and just goes “Uhhhh.” and watches him leave. After about a minute she begins shouting at those nearby, “Well fokin’ fix the table then! We gotta get it all proper like for my rematch!”
Maybe she should’ve bullied Jakem into parting with some of his doubloons. Teagan isn’t certain her American dollars will go very far here. She allows herself to be led and plopped onto a barrel, shifting slightly to get comfortable. It’s not easy with the weight of Frenchie’s arm around her, but she tries nonetheless. Leaning to start rifling through her bag, she clucks her tongue a bit. “Do you get to look under your cup or is it simply a blind guess? Seems a little like you might as well just spin a bottle and give your money to whoever it lands on, yeah?” Why didn’t she consider bringing things to trade?! It didn’t help that she didn’t come from home, she might’ve prepared a little better. Finally she surfaces with a bag of beef jerky. Official Jack Links brand, so you know it’s… well, at least decent. “The finest in smoked meats from my homeland,” she declares, setting it on the table.
While Jakem is moving about the place, he will notice a particularly colorful feathered monkey. She has a corset on, some chest fluff that might be tits, and is hanging upside down so her skirt is likeside flipped up too. How provactive. She is swinging along keeping up with the man while saying, “You’re a pretty one ain’t ya… From the Other, from the Wilds, where you coming? Where you going? Do you want to learn to swing?” she teases and flirts moving alongside and slightly above Jakem
Obadiah winces at the fight and then spits out some blood. There is a flash of embarrassment in the Mercer’s eyes, then it is quickly replaced with a laugh a quick draw of his hand across his lips. “How about we make things interesting friend,” he says with the charm of a liar, “Why don’t we flood the pit? We’re pirates after all. Six to twelve inches should be enough to make it interesting.”
“Smoked meats, she brings to eats.” The french velvet hat wearing woman declares with laughter of those around. “Oh aye, you may peek at your dice. Now into the pot.” she throws what appears to be some riverstone earrings, the other bettors throw coppers, some teeth, and a egg sized crystal that may be worth a fortune on earth but in the Godrealm is apparently on par with some jerky. Then the game begins rattle rattle rattle in the cup they roll, then clop goes the cup and now nobody knows! Teagan has: 4 , 4, 4, 3, 3, 5
A monkey by his side is better than a monkey on his back. Jakem gives a cool smirk to the permiscuous primate as he collects the Kai doll still scampering about trying to sabotage tables. “That might be the case; care to take a guess at which realm I hale from? If you guess right there’ll be a prize.” he says. His ears catch something on the wind, and he immediately is compelled to yell
“That’s what she said!” to the fighting pit.
The lizard hulk of a fighter is to busy fighting but when Obadiah declares flood the pit the announcer monkey with their macaw like feathers declares, “We gots a swimmer, we gots a slayer, we gots a mermaid wanker player! He wants the water to win the match, but little does he know the champs a catch!” some hidden lever in the ceiling is pulled and the bottom of the bit sinks down three feet and all of a sudden salt water rushes in and the lizard man’s tail flares with fins that expand from the tip and his arms likewise get fins expanding from them. Apparently he too is an aquatic menace!
“Mon ami,” Obadiah says pulling off his coat and grinning as he rolls up his sleeves. “I am not a Mermaid. I am a Selkie.”
While all this is going on Matias might be peaked near the back table where the gambling is all coming home to roost. He is showing them his rosary and his wrist watch batering with them quietly. When there is some resistance he nods out to the ground pointing at Teagan or Jakem and then re-engaging in his bartering. The figure he is bartering with is some kind of Octopus faced marvel from Pirates of the Carribean, pipe and all with a big hat and a crab claw hand.
When Obie turns into Obadiah(Leopard Seal) there is a sudden applause and more heavy betting as a shifter versus a fleshformed monstrosity is worth some heavy coins as silver and gold minted coins begin to trade heavy and the feathered macaw monkey declares, “Selkie, Selkie, he won’t have a sulk. He is ready, he’s chomping, he’s fighting a hulk!”
Or maybe jerky is just that desired. There’s a reason Teagan carries it around with her. She does lean in to take a very careful peek at her dice: doing her best to avoid any attempts by others to take a peek! And it’s only after she has her cup firmly back down over them and held fast that she leans to take a look toward the fighting pit. There is a purse of lips as the lizard becomes a… merzard? But she has a game to play. She does try to position herself to be able to go as late in the cycle as possible: to get the gist of the game. Because she will lie if she must: with an awkward smile and all the uhms, ahhs, and confusion an off-worlder can muster.
Obadiah swims around fast as can be splashing water and leaping from the air to clamp on the throat of the lizard hulk before dragging him down down down before throwing him against the wall. As the beast is midflight? Stumble? Obadiah shifts back and cracks his knuckles saying, “Captain Vayne sends her regards.”
Mercy is summarily whooshed, and stands there awkwardly for a time while trying to take stock of her surroundings, the situation, and where the others are. “.. This ain’ what I were expectin’.” She mumbles aloud to herself, stowing her phone away.
Jakem looks over as Mercy appears “Oh, I wasn’t sure which Mercy we were getting.” he comments “Got the tall one huh?” he grins a bit, turning back to the monkey following him about “So you got your guess, or will you leave that pretty prize un-picked?”
It is unsurprising that adorkable and awkward does not win Liar’s Dice as Teagan is taken advantage of like any bebah (or donkey) in any gambling game ever. Which is to say a lot of people are nice, hit on her, compliment her wits, and take her jerky like it was the easiest con of their lives all laughing and smiling at the new blood at the game. Perhaps Jakem will swap out with her or save her as he was heading her way while the corset wearing female monkey with feathers swinging from the netting on the ceiling says, “Where you from. That is easy. You are from my dreams, the man of them, we get a werewolf in here to furr you up and I’d keep you warm handsome.” the monkey flirts with Jakem while swinging along with them.
Meanwhile Obadiah has managed to tie the pit fight 1 to 1 if we are talking points the lizard hulk with fins a Merzard as one might call him surprised by the Selkie’s sudden ferocity. He roars in Obadiah’s face and goes, “Come on then! I’ll make the ocean red with yer blood!” and then he charges him trying to get a bite on some part of the Fae shifter and go into a death spin!
The razor toothed, one armed femfatal form the arm wrestling game shouts, “Where you at! Its best of three and I ain’t see no second comer here to stand fer you!”
Obadiah looks up when he hears Mercy and then looks back to his lizard opponent, both of them looking rather ragged before he gets another bright idea, “What do you say boss? Think you can take two if us? I bet I can get tall, dark, and crazy over there to make it a three way.”
Mercy spots Jakem and ticks an upnod his way, though the sight of him is soon eclipsed by his simian pursuer. The heart wants what it wants, she supposes, then wanders towards the pit as the sounds of combat lure her like siren song.
This is the problem when your only ‘magic’ is rituals that take you a couple of hours to complete. All cheating is a matter of wits. Which, in Teagan’s reckoning, makes it not cheating at all. She goes along with all the ribbing and teasing that she receives (as well as the heavy-handed flirting) with an only mildly pained smile. “What say one of you covers a round of drinks? I’ll play wench for the next round and fetch it all for you, okay?” She’s already extracting herself from under Frenchie’s arm as she speaks, waiting for someone to pony up some coins so that she can get something to drink… and maybe get some eavesdropping in! Teagan does give a brief thumbs up of encouragement to Mercy
While Mercy is being voluntold to join a death match. It sounds like a death match the macaw feathered monkey announcer shouts, “Oh no we have d-d-d-d-d-d-d-double trouble! The selkie has volunteered a…” the monkey looks at Mercy in punk attire with a crossbow on her back and settles on, “Poacher to join the water battle! And does the Lizard accept!” having failed to chomp on Obadiah and death spiral him the hulk roars, “Reek! Reek! Come get yer meet!” there is a low groan from the ship as it seems to sway like it is on the ocean some heavy weight moving as what appears to be a full sized Walrus comes flopping from the back towards the pit fight… apparently it will be a full blown orgy as the Black walrus with tusks the size of Jakem splashes down into the pit with the lizard man and Obadiah. Mercy better hurry!
The Walrus has a pirate hat and a fake tusk that is gold… You are unsure whether to be terrified or amused.
Jakem nods to Teagan, gesturing to the table “She’s calling for you, quick take the spot. You gotta win one of the next two.” he comments “I’ll handle these pirates, and definitely won’t sell you to them as soon as you’re gone.” he says with a pat to Teagan’s shoulder, moving over to the gambling table. “Deal me in.” as he plops down his doubloons on the table. He flips one to the monkey with a wink “That was a good one. If I was a man, I’d take you up on that right quick.” he says as he sidles up to a male pirate at Teagan’s table.
Mercy knows not what they battle for this day but she’s rarely needed a reason before, why start now? With languid steps the ‘Poacher’ drops down into the pit by Obadiah, shooting the man a brief glance in half-hearted recognition before taking stock of their opponent- no, opponents, plural. The teen sniffs loudly and reconsiders her current form now that the large blubbery creature is part of this intimate scene. “.. Maybe I oughta shift.” She states, just loud enough for Obadiah to hear.
There is some coppers and a gem plopped into Teagan’s hand enough for a round as she manages to extract herself from the french woman’s attention only for Jakem to take it. The velvet green pirate hat wearing woman reaches out kind of squeezes his upper arm, pokes his back, and declares “I think he’s prettier than she was!” and there is a round of laughing as Jakem gets: 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 6 for their dice. The feathered monkey that had been hitting on him laughs and chirps before deciding to watch the game. Meanwhile Teagan has been directed to arm-wrestling and the razor toothed onearmed femfatal shouting, “Red you comin’ or you forefeiting!”
“Better to be fast than strong,” Obadiah mutters behind his placid smile as he looks over to Mercy and then nods. “Yeah… I am shifting too this is… going to be a shift show.” Pun intended.
Mercy says “I’m DOIN’ THINGS.“
The fighting pit is currently filled up to 3feet with salt water as the lizard man has fins like a fish and the walrus is a walrus. After jumping in Mercy is at least up to her hips if not her tits in the water!
Obadiah(Panthera onca) waits his sweet time to get into the proper form. Crouching Jaguar hidden seal
[OOC – Mercy and Obie can do their own separate tries]
Mercy makes a face at the pun but follows suit with much less streamlined and graceful shifting, her body crunching and contorting in the water.
“I gotta buy a round for them first!” Teagan shouts over to the one-armed arm-wrestler, gesturing to the liar’s dice table as if to say ‘blame them.’ Blame them, indeed! Except at the end of the day, what she does is buy herself and the arm wrestler a drink, pocket the rest, and carry both over to the table. “You know how those gamblers can be, so single-minded.” She doesn’t sit just yet, simply offers out a tankard to ol’ one-arm while taking a deep drink of her own.
Jakem keeps an eye on the dice while his other hand busily concocts his clever scheme beneath the table. Stashing some of his own liquor in the duffel bag seemed to have worked out as it gives him easy access while he drugs it. He lays the liquor on the table as his bet. “A’right, how do we play this game again? I’m betting one eight.” he declares as he drags a manicured green nail down the side of the 3 to form a sorta flat-sided 8. He casts a wink to the French woman and leans in to snuggle close to one of the male pirates “Bet you didn’t see that one coming didja?”
[OOC – All victors may power pose their victory results]
It would seem that shit talking the dice players is the right route for the arm wrestler. Maybe she just struggles to find people to wrassle with thanks to them! Or the drink is just that appreciated. It does mean that at least for the moment, Teagan is table to drop into the chair, lean back and listen to one-armed’s woes as they drink. And when she suspects the other’s ale is getting low? A wench is grabbed (by the tail if it happens to be one of the monkeys) and given enough shiny to get them another round. Because Teagan just has to keep her distracted until the others have pulled off their wins. “You’re right,” she says between gulps of her own drink to the arm wrestler and some voiced complaint, “this really is the only sport here that requires true skill.”
Mercy(wolf) runs with an odd sort of leaping gait to bypass the force of the water that would slow her down, certainly making a splash as she beelines for that pirate walrus and launches herself up onto its back with snapping jaws that seize the back of its thick neck and latch on.
Jakem feigns ignorance when the group at the table doesn’t accept his one ‘8’, not that he would have won anyways when someone immediately goes up in quantity. He comes out losing despite his clever trick, and the bottle of drugged liquor is lost to one of the other pirates. He sighs, affecting a look of deep remorse “That’s a twenty year vintage.” he lies despondantly. He sniffs a little “Just don’t drink it in front of me, I don’t think I could bare it.” he briar rabbits.
The nymph’s elixir may not be a 20 year vintage, but it does have an unusually alluring scent to it.
Since Mercy(wolf) is going for the Walrus, Obadiah(Leopard Seal) goes for the throat of the lizard. Though a dazzling display acrobatics and feats of strength is able to drown the beast. Once his part of the challenge is complete he showboats by sitting pretty on the body of Lizard while the wolf finishes off the walrus.
While the pit fight goes on, Jakem smoozes, and Teagan likewise tries to trick herself out of arm wreslting Matias produces what appears to be a small red leather journal the size of his hand. Offering it to the Davey Jones looking Pirate Captain. The crab claw takes it and a small case is slide across to him. The latino Professor says, “Yes… the Crew of the Windy Court will come back before the end of the year and defend whatever titles they have earned… I will bring the spyglass back at that time.” apparently concluding some kind of entertaining bargain. There is a look back out at the room as he pockets the hand sized box and puts it into his pocket.
For their spectacular efforts the ‘crew’ of the supposed Windy Court ship for which Matias has been bartering gets a slew of nicknames: Teagan is Bubbles and Blushes , Jakem is Grins and Wins , someone is Skillful Selkie , someone is Poacher’s Hound. With the trade complete, the victory won, the group is free to spend the night reveling with pirates and maybe wind up dead or robbed or exit via the memory gate winners! mostly.
