Calazar’s Friday night odd encounter(Mercy)

(Calazar’s Friday night odd encounter(Mercy):Mercy)

[Fri Feb 6 2026]

At Autumn and Washington/span

It is night, about 25F(-3C) degrees, and the sky is covered by dark grey stormclouds. The mist is heaviest At Thornberry and Sidney/span
There is a waning gibbous moon.

Calazar is walking through the night air his phone set away and his disfiguring gruesome throat wound warding any social night walkers away from him. It is late in the evening, it is freezing, most people are bundled up or in cars or home. So the fallen vampire king stalks the streets of Elysia looking for either entertainment or a meal.

Another cold night to no one’s surprise, and while it could be merely a symptom of the hour there’s an eerie quiet that hangs thick in the air, worsening as pedestrians reach their destinations and the passing of vehicles dwindle. Nothing seems to stir otherwise, like anything with a pulse in the area has gone still; all save a lone raven perched atop a street lamp a short distance ahead of Calazar whose beady eyes seem oddly fixed on the man while it cocks its head from one side to the other.

Calazar may be a centuries old vampire, may even be supernaturally perceptive and aware of his surroundings but he is also egotistical, arrogant, and unbothered. The raven and its fixated gaze go unnoticed or at least unresponded to as the dapper duelist dressed vampire lord walks along the street on the sidewalk and towards the raven… unwittingly? Unblinking green eyes instead scan passing cars and anyone on the sidewalk who might be out this late and alone.

If Calazar does not notice the raven, he may notice its companion that drops down in a flutter of large wings to land with an audible clank onto the roof of a nearby parked vehicle, or the third one that silently circles overhead. The first and largest of them gives a long, low croak and the silence is abruptly broken; a small group of young adults, students of Windermere perhaps returning home from a night out and Calazar’s only solid meal option on this patch of street, disperse with a chorus of startled cries and screams as the silhouette of a large canine comes bolting from a nearby alley and collides with them. At the same time the raven already up in the air dives straight down towards the vampire’s face in an outright act of aggression that’s anything but typical.

The sudden appearance of a wolf bowling into a crowd of Windermere students distracts Calazar as the raven divebombs his face. It is only in the last moment those glowing green eyes snap back up and attempt to telekinetically shove the raven away from his face while leaping into the air. Once Calazar is airborne, he kicks off a building’s outerwall to drift onto the roof across from where the werewolf has tumbled into the pedestrians. Looking down at it for a moment and then scanning for what appear to be several ravens now.

The weight of a bird is no match for telekinesis and the raven is easily flung aside, colliding with a nearby wall and tumbling limply to the ground. Its allies however, are quick to take off and pursue the vampire upwards while he seeks a higher vantage point, two small shadows that flit around him at a distance. For now. Calazar has enough time to observe the more hectic situation down below to see the canine more clearly; a normal wolf, of little threat to him on its own but certainly enough of one to the students still sprinting across the slippery sidewalk in an all out panic to escape its snapping jaws, unaware of the second one stalking in from ahead. Poor humans. Then there is another of those malevolent, gargling croaks from behind the vampire. And another. Several more ravens have joined the fray and now the entire flock swarm in on him, sharp beaks and sharper talons attempting to knick or latch onto what ever of him they can as the chorus of hollow cries becomes higher pitched, excited.

Should Calazar care about Windermere students? His association as a substitute teacher would imply yes but does Calazar care about the Windermere students and wolves… not really because his focus is on the ravens and black feathered avians that assault him. The cutlass comes out and he begins to slash at the air to ward them off, more to keep them at bay than any panic or fear. It is not as if the avian scratches or cuts actually hurt him, his undead resistance to pain protecting him from those sort of reactions. “Now I wonder if another Vampire has come to Haven… The creatures of the night, they rebel against me!” he says in a gregarious spanish accent!

Like a relentless swarm of mosquitos the ravens swirl around Calazar in a frenzy, a few inevitably get knocked from the air by his sword but the ones that remain keep at it with notable effort to get at his eyes. They may not be able to kill him on their own, but blinding him would make things easier.

While Calazar may not be concerned for the fate of those below there quickly approaches another, significantly larger canine shape running at full speed from farther down the street; student and wolf both, flashes of crimson fur when she bolts beneath a street lamp, it’s most definitely Mercy(wolf) coming in from who knows where with three smaller wolves in hot pursuit.

It is very hard to fend off birds and insects but Calazar backs up backs up backups and then simply drops down off the building using his supernatural prowess to take the landing with a crouch trying to get some space between himself and the fliers. Now on the street again he sees the students, regular wolves, and Mercy(wolf). There is an unblinking assessment and he calls out, “Are you why I am being hunted by bugs and birds?” trying to get Mercy(wolf)’s attention, perhaps assuming she will not simply try and eat him too.

One second he’s there, the next he isn’t and his avian entourage is left briefly confused when their target just drops down from a considerable height, fluttering around in a disoriented pattern while trying to regroup. Some of them split off to chase after the students who by now are bloodied, terrified and half-dragging themselves away from the two bigger threats on the ground that have now turned their attention to Calazar and Mercy(wolf), beginning to circle the former to get into a proper hunting formation.

As the larger wolf closes in it’s easier to see the dark, wet sheen of blood in her fur and the layer of froth building up at the corners of her open mouth from excessive exertion; seems she’s been fighting with and outrunning these other wolves a while, one of which nearly gets its teeth around one of her hind legs now that she’s inevitably starting to slow down. Then she hears that voice. Ears swivel up, amber eyes find the vampire’s narrow form up ahead, and her course adjusts accordingly; maybe it’s jealousy that he’s out here spending time with other wolves, maybe she’s just that happy to see him, but either way she is now charging directly towards the man.

Calazar flicks a throwing knife up from his vambrace and hurls it past Mercy(wolf) at one of the pups trying to bite at her hindleg trying to peg it right in the head with the blade. With his sword out to the side he steps to the right in a kind of bullfighter move so that Mercy(wolf) does not bull him over in her clear enthusiasm to join forces with him and not maul him. The manuver is just for safety, obviously! “After we kill the animals, I want one of the students.” he informs her of his plan to eat post-battle.

Psychotic animals, a massive wolf, and a flying man who is now casually talking about wanting one of them for no doubt nefarious purposes. All these students wanted was to blow off studying and enjoy a night out, now they’re all fending off ravens while crawling or limping away as fast as their mangled limbs will carry them, all but one whose already way ahead because he abandoned his friends and ran the second he had the chance, a single bird still diving at his head over and over.

The especially persistent wolf that almost catches up with its supernatural counterpart suddenly drops to the ground without so much as a yelp and rolls with the momentum it had gathered while still alive before coming to a slumped stop, the hilt of someone’ throwing knife sticking out of its skull. Now Mercy(wolf) is only a few meters away, her wild eyes seemingly fixed, but just as she’s about to get what might be uncomfortably close she strafes off to the side with a kick, and turns on a dime again to dart just beyond Calazar and barrel into one of the wolves that had been stealthily encroaching on his flank. While she’s entangled with that one and its ally rushing in to assist, the two that had been chasing her switch to the smaller target and close in on the vampire, aiming their bites for his legs.

While she’s entangled with that one and its ally rushing in to assist, the two that had been chasing her switch to the smaller target and close in on the vampire, aiming their bites for his legs.

Calazar tries to fend off the wolves from his legs, he has a lot of experience with wolves eating his legs and he does not want it to happen again. While he might cut off one of the two wolves heads, the second one divebombs and gets his leg. There is a *grunt* not of pain but of annoyance as he feels the weight and blood seeping down his pantleg. “Damn you.” he says looking down at the wolf like its a child tugging at his pantleg and not some predatory that has just gnawed on him.

SWISH! Calazar easily dispatches one of the two with a solid swing that ends its maddened life, and the other keeps tearing and tugging at his leg with relentless determination. From somewhere behind him however there comes the dull screech of something scraping metal and the sudden, snarling weight of a second wolf after its grabbed hold of the hem of his waistcoat to join the other in trying to drag the irritated vampire to the ground.

Should he glance over his shoulder he’d see the body of the wolf Mercy(wolf) had earlier collided into, and the werewolf herself casually laying atop the roof of a large SUV where she can catch her breath and, more importantly, watch Calazar gets yanked around by his new lupine friends. Though she cannot laugh, the way she huffs a few breaths while her eyes follow the display more than suggest amusement.

Calazar is being ganged up on by wolves and there is a brief roll of his eyes and in his free hand another throwing knife comes out… These are but wolves, not even werewolves, and he has had enough! The knife hand comes down, hooks one wolf by the throat, cutting it as he brings it up from his waistcoat to eye level and he moves as if to bite it only to find it is just animal blood so he hucks it aside. All the while another one is still eating his leg. The cutlass comes down right into his back with enough force to snap the spine and then decapatiate it a moment later. From there the now blood drenched vampire walks out from the bodies and drops a bloodied knife on the street before cleaning his cutlass and sheathing it. Glowing green eyes find a living but weakened student and telekinetically yoinks them as he just outrights eats the college aged student. Fangs finding their throat and then exsanguinating them unless Mercy(wolf) or those damn birds intervening… glug glug glug.

There’s something a little more somber about Mercy(wolf) when the last wolf falls, the grim satisfaction of what might, for her, be an unfortunate task completed. All the ravens have since splintered off, some after the more mobile students, some to scout out easier targets, and though the werewolf drops down from her perch to watch Calazar after registering his intent, she does nothing to stop it; they’re both monsters, after all. To each their own.
