(Luka’s Howlers Park Party)
[Thu Jul 3 2025]
A Tree–Lined Park Pathway/span>/spanWide paved pathways wind through Acadia Park, their weathered asphalt
surfaces showing the telltale cracks and patches of decades of New England
winters. Mature oaks, maples, and elms line the paths, their thick trunks
rising from well-worn dirt patches in the grass where countless feet have
trod. Cast iron lampposts stand at regular intervals, their Victorian-style
fixtures painted black and topped with glass globes that cast pools of amber
light after dusk. Wooden benches appear every hundred feet or so, their dark
green paint peeling in places to reveal the grey wood beneath. The paths
curve gently through the landscape, occasionally branching at intersections
marked by simple wooden signposts. During autumn, fallen leaves accumulate
along the edges despite the groundskeepers’ efforts, creating rustling drifts
of gold and crimson. The salt-tinged breeze from the Atlantic carries through
the trees, particularly strong when the wind blows from the east, bringing
with it the faint cries of seagulls that wheel overhead./span>/spanIt is afternoon, about 91F(32C) degrees, and there are a few thin white clouds in the sky. The mist is heaviest At Thornberry and Woodcrest/span>/span“Truth or dare, oh dear.” Sophie looks at Kai, “Uhm, almost everyone..I think.”
Jenny moves over to the wings, grabbing some of the barbecue ones “Wings are catered by Cristal!”
“Truth or dare…? Beer?” Alphonse steps away from Luka, tossing the beer back towards the cooler with a grimace. “Definitely no beer for me. Hey, Lola!” Alphonse waves at Lola, then turns to scan Vesper curiously. “Sup, stranger?” Alphonse is fixing his hair, messed up by a noogie courtesy of Luka.
“Nice,” Kai tells Jenny and nods to Sophie in agreement, he looks over to someone and gives her a wave, “Hey there, lady,” he greets the woman.
“Nice,” Kai tells Jenny and nods to Sophie in agreement, he looks over to Vesper and gives her a wave, “Hey there, lady,” he greets the woman.
A can is yeeted at Vesper the moment she turns up! “Heads up!” Luka barks in her direction with a wolfish looking grin, the can whistling through the air towards her!
“Why are we throwing cans?” Sophie says with a snicker, “dangerous.”
Lola murmurs, looking surprised when Luka places a beer in her hands the moment she joins the party, and she rambles, though there is… A problem. Her voice is simply not there, stolen away by some sort of foul magic, the little witch cannot speak, so all she can do are mouth the words she intends to no avail, then pouts in Luka’s direction, looking a little sad. She opens her mouth to chatter again, but more words are cut short and sound out into nothingness.
Jenny covers her mouth as the beer goes flying, barely containing a giggle before containing it and saying to Sophie in a very serious voice “Yes, quite dangerous.”
Sophie glances at Lola curiously, “Like the little mermaid?”
“How’ve you been, Lola?” Alphonse asks, once his hair is refluffed to his satisfaction. He blinks, seeing Lola fail to speak. “Ah, shit. I remember that. Had something similar happen myself, it was annoying for a few days. Feel free to text me if you want something shared with the rest of us.” Alphonse makes a little V for victory sign.
Kai bursts out laughing when Vesper gets beaned by the flying can and leans heavily on Sophie, “Hilarious,” he says through his laughter.
Luka winces as the can goes straight for Vesper’s head! Far faster than could be reasonably caught by someone not paying attention. He rushes over to her, making sure she’s alright “Jesus, lady, you good?” Luka asks her, helping her up to her feet if she fell
Vesper step quietly into the park, her gray eyes scanning everyone before clutching her head and crouch down as a can of beer pelts her, “Dermo! Watch your aim!”
“Sup, Stranger?” Alphonse greets Aghilas. “Welcome to the Howler’s party. We’re low key, here. Beer, chicken, and plastic tables.” Alphonse snorts. “I’m Alphonse, Alphonse Fairfang. Luka’s little brother.” Alphonse hooks a thumb at Luka.
Luka cackles apologetically, crouching down next to Vesper and placing a hand at her back “Sorry lady, got a little too excited.” Luka tells her “Luka Fairfang, that’s Alphonse, that’s Jenny.” Luka says, nodding to Alphonse and Jenny in turn “Alphonse is my little brother, Jenny is my packmate.” Luka gets the Howler introductions out of the way quick “What’s your name” Luka asks before nodding over to Aghilas “Wassup champ, Luka Fairfang, like my brother said” Luka gives the man a salute
Aghilas flutters into the park in a cascade of indigo, approaching one of the many crowded tables in his way. He’s of course greeted by Alphonse, and he bows, ramrod straight, both acknowledging and returning the greeting. “I am Aghilas ag Emenni of the Kel Ifergoumessen. A pleasure to meet you.” he muses, his kohl-lined eyes beneath his veil flitting between the two brothers, to Luka, and then back to Alphonse, taking the two in thoughtfully while he stands up straight back to his full height.
Kai shrugs at Sophie and wanders over to Vesper, “Hey, who’re you?” he asks, “I’m Kai, this is Sophie,” he indicates Sophie and looks to Aghilas, “Hey! I’m Kai, nice to meet you also. I’m going to call you Kel because the rest of that is a lot. Unless you have another name you want me to call you of course.”
Lola would likely be far more interactive in this party if she could speak, but as it stands she just shyly finds a tree to stand under instead, unopened beer in hand and eyes cast to the ground. She thumbs over the tab and squeezes the can, her back pressed firmly against the trunk of a mighty oak, but otherwise the poor girl is keeping to herself- she’s not even chuckling when Vesper gets hit by alcohol. Poor girl.
“Aghilas..” Sophie says quietly, “It rolls of the tongue so nicely though.”
“Ahh-guy-luss? ” Alphonse tries, tongue unfamiliar with the sounds of the name. “Sounds pretty foreign. You a wildling? Like Rinwell, someone from another world?” Alphonse has to question, eyeing the man’s robes thoughtfully.
Kai hmms and repeats what Sophie says, “Aghilas,” and nods to her, “Oh yeah, that’s not so bad I guess,” he agrees with a slight grin and kisses her on the temple lightly.
Luka looks over to Lola as she sits melancholy by the tree, stepping away from the group for a moment to crouch down next to her. Not saying anything to her he points his head to the group, holding out a hand to help her to her feet and wrapping an arm around her waist once he has. He walks her over to the group, keeping her under his arm so she can take part in the party instead of just watching it from afar
Kai says “Yep, I’m here now“
“Kel is a prefix in my language, meaning the people of. Ifergoumessen is the name of the warrior priestess that my clan traces our lineage to.” Aghilas explains for Kai with a laugh from beneath the veil, the corners of his eyes crinkling underneath the veil. “It would have no meaning, but you may use it if you wish.”
A shake of the head follows for Alphonse as well, not offended by the butchering of his name, the -gh- sound in particular difficult for those used to English. “No. We are from the Ifoghas Mountains. It is in North Africa.”
“Nah I got it, nice to meet you,” Kai grins at Aghilas and looks over to Luka and Lola, he gives a sympathetic little smile to the latter but his attention turns back to Vesper, “Sooo who are you again?”
Vesper rubs her forehead as she stands back up, wincing before clears her throat and introducing herself to everyone. “I am Vesper Volkov, a pleasure to meet you all.”
“Damn, that’s pretty hardcore man” Luka tells Aghilas, tactically ignoring the man’s name “I’ve always wanted to roam down to Africa, see if I could hang with the lions and stuff they got down there” Luka tells the man, a wide, toothy grin coming over the man’s head. He reaches over to the cooler, retrieving another can “You drink, Em’?” Luka asks Aghilas, picking his own abbreviation also, it seemed
“Cool, nice to meet you too. How’s the noggin’?” Kai asks Vesper, “This is my girlfriend, Sophie,” he indicates Sophie.
Sophie waves to Vesper with a smile, “Nice to meet you.”
Lola squeaks as Luka kidnaps her from the tree she had been holding up, her fingers grasping helplessly at his jacket while she stumbles along with him, eyes all wide with surprise and fright. When she’s back in the middle of the party, her mouth opens and closes again, but rather than try to speak she just reads a text on her phone, nods with a subtle smile, and pops the top on her beer, sniffing it and then gagging. Apparently she’s not fond of the smell at all. Instead she quickly taps out a message to someone, looking hesitant to do so at first.
Nemi smiles and waves softly. “Nice to meet you Miss Volkov.” She states as she stands around and chuckles softly, swaying softly with a light hum as she nods a bit while everyone talks.
Jenny says over to Lola “Theres some regular soda in the cooler.” giving a wave to Vesper “Hey, i’m Jenny.”
“Might as well be another world as far as I’m concerned. Never been off this continent… I think.” Alphonse answers, a painted nail rising up to lightly scratch his cheek. “What brings you to the City Between? And I guess the party here?” Alphonse glances over to Vesper, upnodding the woman as she finally speaks up. “Nice to meet you as well, Vesper. Alphonse, like I said.”
Luka pulls his phone out of his skinny jeans back pocket, reading it over before nodding over to Lola and tucking the phone back away “Lola here’s got a bad case of witchcraft at the moment and can’t speak, but she wants everyone to know her name is Lola and she’s pleased to meet you guys” Luka tells the group
“There is certainly quite a lot of wildlife to hunt.” Aghilas agrees with Luka, while beers are all passed around and the drinking starts. The answer to his question comes after a few seconds of pause. “Not in the traditional sense. I will have to pass for now, but tanemmirt. Perhaps later I will indulge myself.” he’s saying, even as he’s passed a can of beer. He doesn’t reject it or turn it away — instead he slides it within the confines of his robes, making it disappear beneath a sea of blue.
Kai nods to Lola with a chipper grin, “It’s nice to meet you too, Lola!” he declares and looks around, asking Jenny, “Did you end up getting all your clothes fixed after that shit with the monsters?” he wonders and turns his head to look at Aghilas, “So what’s your story Aghilas?” he wonders, “And why haven’t you added me on MyHaven yet? I’m Gadfly.”
Jenny looks down at her clothes and gives a nod to Kai “Yeah, had to replace and stitch together some stuff.”
Vesper send a shrug over to Kai, “I’ll live. I’ll just need faster reflexes next time.” She says with a wry grin.
The blonde witch beams a little smile as Luka speaks, nodding her head eagerly and waving to everyone present from Kai to Jenny to Sophie to Vesper to Aghilas, to even Alphonse and Luka himself. She’s all bubbly personality despite her bad luck, and she twists her hips from side to side to send her skirt a-flutter. “Nice to meet you all!” Lola tries to say, though depending on her luck no words come out.
Kai nods in agreement with Vesper, “Gotta be quick!” he tells her and brushes his fingers up through his hair lightly, “God it’s too fucking hot out.”
“I have been sent here by my clan. My baba, may his soul rest in peace, was the aggag – preserver of history and tradition. Not just of our own clan, but of others. As the imuhagh who has been groomed to replace him, it is demanded that I go out and seek stories. Small, big, mundane, supernatural – it does not matter. What is important is that people’s stories are preserved with my people, for stories are the anchors of the soul, and to forget a story is to lose part of one’s self.” Aghilas tells Kai, unaware that maybe it’s a little TMI for a casual beer gathering.
“That is why I implore you to reach out to me if you have a story to tell, so I can record yours and immortalize it.”
“If I ever go down there you’ll have to tell me where the good stuff is” Luka tells Aghilas with a pleased nod. He glances between all present before remembering what he’d said earlier “Alright. Games. Chatting is cool, but chatting whilst putting each other in as awkward situations as possible is better.” Luka tells the group, his eyes narrowing a little dangerously. “Who’s playing truth or dare? I need a list of who here has the balls for it”
Luka nods his head as he listens to Kai’s story “Damn, that’s like, super deep …” Luka says. For a moment it seems like Luka might derail the entire activity just to ask Aghilas some more about his philosophy but the man restrains himself “You gotta tell me more about that sometime man!” Luka tells him with a pleased cackle
“I need to start making stories worth recording,” Sophie says quietly, “What a fun thought.”
“So, Vesper, just out of a business meeting?” Alphonse asks, making his way over towards Vesper once Aghilas really starts revving up those engines in his explanation to Kai. “You look like you fight excel sheets for a living.”
Jenny raises and eyebrow saying to Aghilas “You should totally start a youtube channel and upload all of those. Thats a way to keep them immortalized.”
Chug, chug, chug, chug, Lola downs that foul-tasting beverage as fast as she can, her face all scrunched up with disgust until the can is empty- then she belches, and it comes from somewhere deep in her stomach that stinks of sulfur and lagers. She gags again, hating the smell as much as the taste, and clings with one hand to Luka as he asks for volunteers, bobbing her head up and down in the affirmative. The sad story is, without a voice, the only option she really has is ‘dare’.
Kai nods to Aghilas as he listens to the fellow speak, he hmmms and looks to Sophie, “I think you’ve made some already,” he grins at her a little and glances to Luka, tilts his head a bit and asks, “Like what?” with an owlish blink.
“I am humbled by your interest.” Aghilas muses with a bow of his head. “I am open to questions and stories alike, so please do reach out.” he says to Luka, then his attention is whisked away by Jenny suggestion. A thoughtful hum escapes from beneath the veil. “I am not too familiar with technology. I know of YouTube, but even setting up this… MyHaven… thing, made me feel archaic as it is. The real library,” he says, giving a solid *THUMP* to himself on the side of his skull, “…is right in here. It is what my clan has trained me for.”
Vesper gives a soft chuckle at Alphonse’s remark as she cracked open her dented beer with one hand. “That is a big part of the job I do, da but I mainly deal with unruly rabble making a ruckus.”
Jenny gives a nod her attention turning to the wings again, grabbing one of the extra hot wings and quickly getting to work on it. She seems fine… for a few seconds. And then she is sweating like a pig, face red. She quickly moves to grab a dr pepper from the cooler, chugging it down
Luka picks up the tray, taking a single wing before putting the tray back down. He strips the bones of it’s meat and chucks the morcels into his mouth, chewwing a second before pausing “Holy shit Jenny, what the fuck are you trying to do to me?!” Luka groans as he lunges for the cooler himself!
“I’m good to play truth or dare by the way,” Kai tells Luka after a few seconds, he looks to Jenny and grins a bit at her reaction to the wings and looks aside to Sophie, “What about you, you want to play?”
“Not too dissimilar from the Howlers, then… when we aren’t the unruly ones making a ruckus.” Alphonse grins at Vesper. “Haven’t seen you around town before, but I admit, I’ve been busy with my girlfriend recently. Are you a new arrival? Or local? Local as you can be in a city that kinda didn’t exist a few months ago.” Alphonse asks Vesper.
Sophie grins at Kai, “I’m not one to sit out.” She cracks her fingers, “Bring it on.”
Kai heads over to the tray of chicken wings and picks one of them up, glancing between Luka and Jenny at their reaction, “Hmm…” he looks to Sophie and nods at her with a grin, “Hey there, I’m Kai, who’re you?” he asks as he sidles up to Dante.
Luka waves over anyone who wants to play to a separate location, letting those talk keep up their conversation without his games interrupting them!
Her beer of the party drank, Lola wobbles partially away from Luka, though she never goes far- just enough to slump herself over the cooler and start fishing around for a Dr. Pepper of her own- only for the poor tipsy girl to go flying out of the way when Luka lunges for a drink himself, and with her one single beer in her system, Lola is just a little too drunk to fight it off, so she just lays face-down on the grass with a little whimper of pain.
Jenny still seems to be feeling it saying over to Luka “Its my fault, I requested e–extra spicy.” she says between coughs
The arrival of Dante leads to Aghilas’s kohl-eyed eyes tracking the big man. A bob of the head is given, eyes narrowing under his veil, clearly not recognizing the new face. “Azul, aneslam.” he muses in greeting, his voice laced with his exotic French-Arabic accent a little louder to beat the hustle of the crowd to be heard over all the noise.
“Finally something with some spice!” Kai says, his eyes watering as he he wolfs down his wing and tosses the bone someplace, he grins and looks at Dante’s coat, “What the fuck…” but he heads away to join the game circle, beckoning Sophie.

(announce repost!!!)
Nemi says “Tell her I hope she gets better.“
Luka cackles in amusement as Lola faceplants into the grass, Luka snatching one of her ankles and dragging her along the grass as he makes the new game circle. “Alright, we got enough to start I reckon” Luka says as he slumps down into a cross legged sit on the grass, resting his can on his knee. “Sophie, you’re up first. Pick someone, that person picks truth or dare, you tell them what it’s gunna be.” Luka tells Sophie with a wink “If someone doesn’t wanna play along, they’re taking off a piece of clothing and taking a drink.” Luka adds a penalty to the game!
Eyes shift down to Dante and his coat, and those kohl-lined eyes narrow even further, the gauche garment with its dark burgundy color drawing his attention immediately. “How curious.” Aghilas muses, a quiet laugh escaping from beneath his veil as he shakes his head, apparently finding the outfit amusing more than anything else.
“But..I’m only wearing one piece of clothing…” Sophie looks down, “Wait two. Shoes.”
“New arrival, been here for two days trying to navigate this maze of a city.” Vesper sips her beer while looking over at the game cirle that just formed.
Nemi says “Why do you ask“
“Why would you expose your vulnerability like that?” Kai asks Sophie with a roll of his eyes and peels off his hoodie, he hands it over to her.
Nemi hums softly, finding a space to sit at the table as she hums softly.
Nemi says “Right this seems less personal and more extremely petty. He only bet on the one cat and not both of the big fluffy cats.“
Nemi says “He was bound to lose.“
Nemi shrugs softly as she chimes in on something, and then taps her ear before she turns to the party at hand.
Drug across the grass like the bride of a caveman, Lola comes to rest once more at Luka’s side, wobbling as she sits upright, turf all in her hair, she giggles and leans into the man who had just captured her ankle, whispering something that never gets verbalized- so instead, her giggles turn into mischievous snickering as she texts.
Sophie giggles and slips the hoodie on.
Nemi nods softly. “Well I’m Nemi- It’s nice to meet you all honestly- and not in a fight or something.”
“Oooooh. You two are fucking now,” Kai tells Luka and Lola after watching them for a few moments, “Congratulations!” he tells them with a grin.
“Been brought up to speed on the magical bullshit yet, then? Or born with it? You don’t vibe as any of the usual things that go bump in the night, to me.” Alphonse asks Vesper, scanning her up and down again. Dante gets an updnod. “Sup, purple. Nice jacket. Brings out your eyes. Alphonse Fairfang, of the Howlers. Truth or dare is happening in the circle over there, if you wanna join them and meet my brother Luka.”
Dante spends a great deal of time looking around and orienting himself, a man of few words for the first few minutes after his arrival even after he is addressed by several people. Kai is the first one who draws the attention of the playa’s icy-gray eyes. “Bonjou tout moun,” he says to the crowd at large before speaking his name, “Dante. Straight from out de bayou.” All comments made about his coat are literally shrugged off when he readjusts it, owning the loudness of his attire.
Luka smirks as Sophie reveals her weakness, leaning back onto his palms in the grass as he watches the pre-game strategy meeting between Kai and Sophie “Not everyone gets to live life on equal footing to everyone else” The man coos at her coldly “Sometimes you’re the hammer, sometimes you’re the nail” He remarks before watching Kai hand over his hoodie “Smart.” Luka tells the man. Luka reads his phone and shakes his head with a smirk before looking back to Kai “Nah. And don’t spread a rumor like that either or you’ll have Pandora busting down poor Lola’s door.” Luka tells the man
Sophie climbs over into Kai’s lap and nudges him, “You aren’t supposed to say that out loud. Even if we all were thinking it.” She looks at Luka, “Who? I get to pick?”
“Oh,” Kai frowns a bit and nods to Luka, “Well, congratulations… taken back then, damn,” he snaps his fingers and looks to Sophie, “Yeah, it’s your turn, snoockum-tits and wraps his arms around her waist.
Luka nods his head with a wolfish grin “Yup, pick a target.”
“Oh,” Kai frowns a bit and nods to Luka, “Well, congratulations… taken back then, damn,” he snaps his fingers and looks to Sophie, “Yeah, it’s your turn, shnoockum-tits,” and wraps his arms around her waist.
Dante flits his gaze sternly over to imuhagh, and as he does so the beginnings of a sneer tug at his thick lips. He can’t resist it, he grins like he’s just hit a lick at Fort Knox itself, and gotten away with it no less. “I know you ain’t about to start on my coat dressed for Operation Desert Storm.”
Sophie kisses Kai’s cheek, “Wait do I get to pick the truth or dare for the person?”
Dante flits his gaze sternly over to Aghilas, and as he does so the beginnings of a sneer tug at his thick lips. He can’t resist it, he grins like he’s just hit a lick at Fort Knox itself, and gotten away with it no less. “I know you ain’t about to start on my coat dressed for Operation Desert Storm.” (gosh darn targeting)
Luka shakes his head “Nope, you choose a person, they choose truth or dare, you tell them what truth or dare they gotta do depending on what they picked!”
Kai peers at Sophie, “You pick someone and ask ‘truth or dare’, they decide, then you give them a question or something to do’.
Lola’s nose crinkles up as she grabs a few blades of grass in hand and throws them in Kai’s direction, as though shaming him for the very suggestion that Lola and Luka were doing anything untoward. She even looks aside to her alleged lover, laughing faintly then texting again, perhaps something to clear the air.
“That’s what I meant..fuck words.” Sophie look at Lola, “Truth or dare?”
“She can’t talk,” Kai notes to Sophie with a little grin.
“She can text!” Sophie exclaims.
Luka takes his phone out and rolls his eyes as he reads the message “Apparently I’m more like a stinky and pervy older brother than a boyfriend.” Luka informs the group before shrugging as if he could accept that. “She can text me, don’t worry” Luka informs Kai
“Or wait, I guess she could text… yeah you’re right,” Kai mutters and squeezes Sophie, “So smart.”
Vesper thumbs her blazer and shrugs at Alphonse, “I had a rude awakening prior to coming here, so I’m all up to speed.” She leans towards Alphonse conspiratorially, “Also, that is the point.”
The woman bursts into a drunken fit of giggles as Luka reads the text aloud, clutching her stomach and rolling onto her back with amusement before Lola allows herself to catch her breath and give an answer: she holds up two fingers in the letter ‘v’ shape, the number two- dare was the second option, so apparently that is her choice.
“The strat is to dare her to take off a piece of clothing,” Kai informs Sophie with a sage nod.
Luka cackles loudly at the man’s idea “Damn, trust Kai to speedrun nudity” Luka tells the man with a smirk “Though, uh, perhaps not one to talk myself”
“I did not say anything about your coat.” Aghilas tells Dante with a simple shrug of his shoulders, eyes on the man still, as he clucks his tongue curiously. Then, he shifts in place, relaxing before musing idly. “I do believe the brothel is somewhere around here within a few blocks, though, if you are lost?” he questions, distracted in between the conversations at the table -and- the games being played just nearby, though it’s hard to not pay attention to the burgundy coat.
Alphonse quirks an eyebrow at Vesper as she leans in, before snorting at her. “Can’t blame you for hiding in plain sight, I guess. Not the direction the Howlers went, obviously.” Alphonse points a finger at his jacket. “We don’t really believe in subtlety.” Alphonse glances back over to Dante, and offers the man “Beer is in the cooler, Dante, if you drink. Pleasure to meet you. New to town as well?”
Sophie shakes her head, as if coming back from a zone out, “Oooh a dare…”
Dante swerves right back around on Aghilas like he’s spinning the block for a second pass, confrontational without trying to be. A volley of words follow in lieu of gunfire. “Sometimes a man’s eyes can be louder than him words.” His sneer becomes several magnitudes more wicked and he rumbles a burst of boisterous laughter. “Do not worry about I and the brothels, che. That agreement and understanding been signed in blood for a long, long time.”
Luka nods his head twice with a grin “Yup, give the girl a dare, Soph!”
Lola nods her head at Sophie, a sort of congratulatory thing for winning this round of Lola Charades, it seems, as the witch waits patiently for her task.
Sophie hums, “Hmmm…” She leans back into Kai, “I dare you to, arm wrestle Luka BUT you can use two hands versus his one.”
Kai snorts a laugh at the dare and looks from her to Lola and Luka, “It’d be cool if Luka like launched her into a tree or something.”
Vesper nods with a glance at Alphonse’s jacket, studying it. “So I see. I greatly prefer the value in subtlety myself. So much easier.”
Dante looks to Alphonse next and at first looks the man up and down as if appraising his character. Nothing judgmental comes out of his mouth, perhaps merely a result of habit there. “No beer. New place and all, a time for meditation. I would not feel at peace with myself knowing dat I was so eager to lose me head before I could get a proper sense of me bearins, seen? Very new though, like a babe fresh out of the OR but not nearly as shrieking.”
Luka raises an eyebrow at the challenge “Hey now Soph’, I’m a lover not a fighter!” Luka insists, lifting up his arms to show off that they were, indeed, quite lanky. “The juice doesn’t kick in until the full moon hits” Luka tells the group, but none the less does assume the position, taking off his jacket and folding it up for a makeshift table as he holds an arm out for Lola
Nemi sighs softly.
“Hiding works if you’re a little fish. We intend to be the sharks.” Alphonse grins at Vesper, then suggests to Dante “Welcome to New Haven then, man. I don’t drink myself, so I don’t blame you. The Howlers are the local Pack in New Haven, and if you don’t know what that means, find somebody to tell yah about the monsters under your bed. Hit us up at the Iron Claw Fitness gym if you’re into boxing or martial arts, or if you need the muscle a motorcycle club can provide. My brother, Luka, is the top dawg. He’s off flirting with the witch in the truth or dare circle I think.”
Lola looks exasperated as she’s forced to arm wrestle Luka, not buying the wimpy-looking arms for a single second. Instead she thumbs over that signet ring a few times, as though it were a good luck charm, and she leans in and grabs his hand with two of her own, as promised that she could. She’s a slight little thing herself, and so she holds onto his fingers with both palms as hard as she can, no doubt mentally cursing her life choices right about now.
“Sometimes.” Aghilas agrees easily with Dante, eyes following the man now despite the distraction around. Despite the figurative gunfire, he doesn’t seem hurt, eyes meeting Dante’s with a quieter chuckle following his loud, rumbling laughter, the corners of his eyes crinkling with the hint of a smirk underneath his veil. “Maybe so, but also sometimes a mere glance won’t boil no tea, kho.”
Sophie cheers for the arm wrestle, even if was somehow obviously doomed.
Luka might be a lanky guy, but he was still a man, it seemed. Being twice Lola’s size seemingly mattered quite a bit and the back of the girl’s hand is guided to the grass after perhaps a little more struggle than Luka might have wanted. The man cracks a smirk, turning to Kai and someone and hitting a less than impressive strong man pose “Who’s da man?!” Luka demands from the two of them before giving Lola a wink “Your turn Kiki, who’s up next?” Luka asks the girl

The man cracks a smirk, turning to Kai and Sophie and hitting a less than impressive strong man pose “Who’s da man?!” Luka demands from the two of them before giving Lola a wink “Your turn Kiki, who’s up next?” Luka asks the girl
Kai watches the arm wrestle competition in amusement, gnawing on his hot wings, his eyes watering and his nose starting to run, but he munches away happily on them, “Fuck these are good,” he tells Sophie and nods in agreement with Luka, “Nice one,” he says and chucks the bones.
Dante sneers a wicked look at Alphonse as well. “The monsters under the bed cannot be any worse than the monsters dat live inside your head. Usually not, but I will remember dat. We are all here to meet new people and…” A hint of sarcasm, like he doesn’t completely believe his own words then, “Make new friends? Yes?” Cynicism presented as the natural result of his life experience with how naturally it rolls off of his tongue.
There’s a not-so-subtle rolling of Lola’s eyes as Luka tamps her hand down on the grass- though, for the briefest moment, was the ground shifting beneath them? As though something just below the surface were tempted to grow. To cheat. And yet it refrained and left the fight fair, at least for now, and she smirks in Luka’s direction before pointing a finger at Kai. Apparently it’s his turn to choose.
Sophie applauds for Luka, “Brava but she did a good job. Though if vines showed up, I should have thought of that.”
“Hmmm….” Kai says, “Well I can’t let you one up me, so I’ll do dare too!” Kai tells Lola and wipes his hands off on the grass, sniffling his runny nose.
Dante wags a finger from side to side at Aghilas like a sage teacher about to instruct a wayward pupil. “It won’t boil no tea but the evil eye can direct the gris-gris. Thoughts and intent, che. Thoughts and intent.” The playa adjusts his coat like it’s near and dear to him, careful not to ruffle it too much. “I have not heard your name yet, Desert Storm. What is it?”
Luka grins as Kai accepts the dare, giving an energetic clap before looking over to Lola “Alright Kiki, what’s Kai gunna get up to?” Luka interrogates the girl, a spark in his eye
Perhaps common sense told Lola not to use magic to cheat a win on a Werewolf at his own party- or maybe she just didn’t feel like expending the effort. Whatever the reason now, she wears a Cheshire grin across her face, and she taps out a message on her phone, looking cocky in Kai’s direction, like she were about to truly get some form of revenge.
“If you wish to make friends, perhaps you should join this ongoing game of… truth or dare.” Aghilas tells Dante, hooking a scarred thumb over towards the circle of players going at it right now. “A good opportunity for you, ayouh?” comes the suggestion. The teaching about intent makes him roll his eyes with an amused huff. “You do not need to tell me about intent. I am Imajaghen – my people have known this for centuries. I am Aghilas ag Emenni, of the Kel Ifergoumessen.”
Luka looks down at his phone and shakes his head “Lola you didn’t need to waste a dare on that, he’d have done it if you gave him five dollars” Luka cackles at the girl before nodding to Kai “You’re streaking butt naked through the party area, gotta run past the drinks table everyone is talking at”
Vesper snorts surprisingly loudly at Alphonse for such a small woman. “Sharks can still be torn apart by a pack of Piranhas all the same.” She says with a soft chuckle. “I think I’ll go over and enjoy the games now.”
“Making friends is pretty essential.” Dante’s seemingly habitual hostility rolls off of Alphonse like water off of a duck’s back, the young man staying calm and collected. “They’re the difference between people hesitating to pull the trigger or not, in my experience. Gotta play the game or this city’ll eat you right up.” Alphonse snorts, then, calls off to Jenny “Jen, take care of things? Don’t let these two kill each other. I gotta head back and lay down, its way too early for me.” Alphonse yawns, after reaching out to the ginger girl wearing the same jacket as he, and nods to Vesper. “See you round, Vesper.”
“Hmm…” Kai looks to soph and shrugs, “I don’t mind doing that, are you fine with me doing that?” he asks as he lifts her enough to get out from under her to stand up, already taking his vest off to stow in his backpack.
“Hmm…” Kai looks to Sophie and shrugs, “I don’t mind doing that, are you fine with me doing that?” he asks as he lifts her enough to get out from under her to stand up, already taking his vest off to stow in his backpack.
“I will go observe this game myself. I am curious what passes for fun for these.. Howlers.” Aghilas muses, shooting a curious glance over at Jenny, too, with her jacket. Then he steps over towards the circle of players.
Sophie grins at Kai, “They can look but you’re mine, so I’m not fussed.”
Jenny seems alot more awake now, standing over to the game circle
Vesper slink over to the circle and smiles at Luka, “Made the right choice coming over. Deal me in next.”
Sophie lets out a low whistle.
Lola looks amongst those gathered as she snickers in Kai’s direction, chewing thoughtfully on her lower lip before turning her attention to Luka. She can’t hold back her little drunken giggles at her own antics, but that one single can of beer has done her in, for she flops backwards on the grass for now, staring up at the sky by Luka’s side.
Kai nods at Sophie and strips down bare, he puts his fists on his hips and lifts his chin into the air, uttering a word of power to make the hair on his head and his body to blow gently in the breeze, then off he goes, sprinting around the park, waving at people he passes. Eventually he makes the full circuit and heads back to the game circle, bending over at the waist to show his butt to Luka and Lola as he bends over to grab his boxers and pulls them back up and on.
“Hmm…. Truth or dare!” Kai asks Aghilas and points to the man as he plops down in his boxers, leaving the rest off.
Sophie giggles at the bouncing, well..bits, as he runs around. She shifts into his lap again and kisses Kai’s cheek.
Luka is looking very amused as Kai starts stripping off, the entire group making their way over to partake in the man’s shame(?), Luka giving the man a round of applause as he sits back down. “Very nice. Good shit Kai.” Luka congratulates the balls on display for having done a dare like that!
“Oh.” Aghilas says with a tone so neutral that it’s really hard to piece together whether it’s in distaste, disappointment, or just flat out surprise as he steps over to the ring, standing, to observe. Perhaps it is the stripping — no, no, it very much is the stripping. He even steps backwards to let the nudist run free and wild, arms crossed in front of his chest, only to be put on the spot by the now-slightly-less-nude man’s question.
Not a buzzkill, he muses out simply, voice low. “It is my duty to speak truth, so what is one more? Truth it is.”
Kai says “Up early huh?“
Luka gives Lola a boisterous tussle of the hair as she lies down, looking over to Aghilas now “You seem like a guy who’s got some pretty wild truths to tell” Luka tells the man before looking to Kai “Pressures on now, you got a good question for the man?”
“Of all the women here, which one would you most like to fuck and why?” Kai asks Aghilas with a waggle of his brows.
Sophie groans and flops back into Kai, “What if they don’t want anyone?” She says with a glance at Aghilas.
“Wooo! Kai, I miss those firm little buttcheeks!!” Lola squeals out drunkenly, throwing her hands in the air and cheering as the man runs a lap, everything jiggling in the breeze. It takes her a moment, too, to realize what has happened, but when she does she sits bolt upright in the middle of Luka ruffling her hair. “My… My voice! My voice!!” she cheers, punching the air repeatedly until she falls over backwards again, dizzy.
“That’s fine,” Kai nods to Sophie, “Asexuals and homosexuals are welcome in this circle,” he tells Luka and Sophie both.
“Hold up Kai, this is my circle, we don’t tolerate the Asexuals here” Luka says, putting up a palm to halt Kai in his tracks, though the smirk on the man’s face seems to imply he is, in fact, joking
Dante is fashionably late to the party, and he knows because he’s adjusting his pimp coat when he arrives. The playa moves with a rhythm that implies a beat that should be playing somewhere in the background, tragically is not. He shuffles his way into the game circle, and undoubtedly having witnessed some of the wilder antics, he remained unperturbed. Uncaring. Indifferent. The corner of his lip pulling into a quarter-smirk. Amused.
Kai snorts out a laugh at Luka’s joke and nods to Luka in agreement, giving the man a grin, though he looks back to Aghilas with an expected lift of his brows.
The kohl-lined eyes underneath Aghilas’s litham squint at the question, and he stares into the distance, as if the answer might lie somewhere beyond the horizon. Yet, eventually, the edges of his eyes crinkle with the hint of a smile, not offended by the question, nor shocked this time — after all, who can be surprised about such a question coming from someone who had just flashed the whole park?
“I would love to answer you, but I am bound by the Asshak. In my culture, the fire in a man’s chest is not to be put on display – and we do not speak the name of the moon we follow. It is meant to be shown, not said, and the moon will know with just a glance.” he answers simply. “You will have to settle with that half-truth, as I would be breaking my modesty and dignity, lose my rights as a man, if I were to give you a full name or point it out.”
“Asshak,” Kai murmurs in amusement but he nods to Aghilas, “I’ll allow it,” he responds to the man in an airy tone, “Speak your half truth my good man.”
Luka consider the response for a moment before shaking his head. “I respect that you’re not bowing to peer pressure, but that’s a cop out.” Luka tells Aghilas, pointing his thumb down. “It is a cool story though.” Luka says before looking throughout the circle, deciding they’d need a new person to pick next, with Aghilas failing the truth! “Vesper, you’re up!” Luka tells the girl with a grin “Pick who’s going next for truth or dare.” someone informs the woman

“Not a cop out.” Sophie says to Aghilas, “That’s beautiful..and kinda romantic.”
Kai nods “Yeah it’s bad ass to have a code like that,” he agrees with Sophie and grins at Luka, “Fair,” he points to Aghilas, “You technically should be taking off a piece of clothing too.”
“The half-truth is that there has been one individual that has caught my interest. I will not allude to the gender and leave it at that.” Aghilas tells Kai with a dip of his chin. “If the moon knew what I thought about him, or her, it would be enough to bring the tide. And I would rather not bring the tide now, ayouh? It is an intimate matter.” he adds in, poker-faced. Was that alluding to something? Who knows.
Dante grunts in amusement like he’d expected it, someone to react to that one specific word. He is not caught off guard by this obvious prediction coming to pass but he does seem somewhat pleased with himself. However, he says nothing of it, leaving Aghilas to his fate, doomed to being verbally prodded by Kai and the others. Then Sophie speaks and the playa cannot help but comment, “It is a master fisherman who throws out his lure and incites the fish to marvel at the hook.”
“Okay that answer was a non-answer as fuck,” Kai tells Aghilas but shrugs and looks to Vesper to see how he reacts, he extends his legs out while Sophie is on his lap and flexes his toes, spreading them out under the sun.
Aghilas considers Kai’s request and then reaches to shrug his robe off his shoulders. “That I can do. I am oathbound to not remove my tagelmust, but my alasho is fine. I will play along for the sake of entertainment.”
“Shit, all these watery metaphors and sweet things. ” Sophie says with a romantic sigh, “It’s..sweet.”
Vesper slowly scan her eyes across everyone in the circle before pointing her hand at Sophie. “Sophie, Truth or Dare.”
Lola looks up to Aghilas curiously, as though he has now intrigued her more than he had previously with his odd yet familiar mannerisms. She smiles faintly in his direction, seeming to understand his sentiment at the very least, even if it does make the game less fun. She sighs, still, and goes back to laying on the grass- for all of two seconds anyways, before she’s crawling over towards the cooler and fishing around inside again. She didn’t get her Dr. Pepper last time, but in her state of distress she doesn’t seek that right now- she seeks something a little harder. She comes up with yet another can of beer, settles it betwixt her breasts, and starts to hobble-crawl right back to Luka’s side, only to pause halfway there and instead find herself at Aghilas’s side instead, pulling her knees up to her chest as she tunes her mental radio into the romantic speech he puts on display.
Kai murmurs to Sophie, “You make my heart weep with your beauty and my manhood FLOOD with emotion when I see your face, my dear sweet Sophie,” he peppers the side of her face with little kisses and grins when she’s picked to be next.
Sophie squeals and giggles.
The beer would get snatched out of Lola’s cleavage by Luka “Give it at least another half hour before you hit another one of those, yeah?” Luka tells the girl with a fatherly wag of his finger. His composure is cracked by Kai’s poetry though, Luka laughing loud before waggling his eyebrows to Sophie “You hear that, Soph’? His manhood is FLOODING!” Luka echoes the man, laughing
“I heard it.” Sophie blushes and whispers to Kai.
Sophie blushes and hums, “Uhm, truth.”
Luka looks back to Vesper “It’s a truth!” Luka announces boisterously “What you got for her Vesp’?” Luka grins
Kai laughs a bit at Luka and Sophie and nods, he looks from Sophie to Vesper when the former picks truth, his head tilted, though eh asks Dante, “Hey I’m Kai by the way, what’s your name?”
Carefully folding Aghilas’s alasho into a neat square — the cloth is long, long enough to be used as a banner if need be — Aghilas bends at the waist to place the folded square on the grass, and then kneels on it, sitting on his calves with his hands on his thighs, the embodiment of zen. His eyes turn over towards the approaching Lola as she finds herself near him, and a quiet nod of acknowledgement is given in her direction, eyes glancing down at the can of beer that she’s picked out with a thoughtful hum.
And then he’s looking up towards Dante, the towering man offering a nice shade much like a giant oak tree standing above him and his chosen seat. Yet, self-sacrificing, he pats the expanse of indigo-dyed Cashmere wool underneath him, where there is more than enough space for two or three more people to reasonably sit on. “Aneslam. You may sit if you wish.” and then to Lola, “…and you as well, tamajaq. Just be wary that the dye is rich, and it may stain your clothes.”
“And your coat.” Aghilas muses playfully to Dante.
Vesper ponders for a moment and then grins at Sophie, “Very well, If you had to give up one of your senses, which would it be and why?”
Dante snaps his icy-gray eyes over to Kai when he’s addressed, again habitually adjusting and smoothing his coat out like he’s making sure the fur hasn’t become animated and run off somewhere. It complements the playa’s persona so well he’d probably be willing to kill over it. “Dante, straight from outta de bayou. Madame Laveau sends her regards.”
Luka punches a hand up into the air to wave energetically over to Kurt as the man enters into the part “Kurt!” Luka greets the man with a wide grin. “We’re playing Truth or Dare, Sophie just choose Truth so Vesper’s about to hit her with it.” Luka catches the man up to the on goings “Anyone here not met Kurt?” Luka asks, looking around the group “He’s one of the richest people in Haven. Important name to remember if you wanna keep up with the place.” Luka introduces the man
Sophie waves to Kurt with a little wiggle of her fingers.
Kurt strides on up to the circle, straightening the sleeves of his suit before letting out a quiet sigh, a faint grin across his lips. “I’m hardly one of the richest in any town where the name ‘Montrose’ exists, Luka, but I appreciate the support.” He turns towards the others gathered, nodding towards those he knows, then to those he doesn’t. “Kurt Steiner. The pleasure is mine.”
Lola tries but fails to retrieve her beer from Luka as he steals it, her mouth all agape with frustration, but ultimately comes acceptance as she looks down at the schedule on her phone and realizes that, well, she has class in two hours. She huffs out a soft breath of frustration, and then seems to seriously consider heading home to sleep off the single can of beer muddling up her thoughts. She does, however, notice Kurt and she grins, waving at him eagerly before turning her attention back to Aghilas. “I couldn’t possibly sit on your clothes… They’re so nice. I’ll just sit here beside you instead. Really, it’s okay,” she murmurs, keeping those pretty blue eyes of her low.
A hand raises in greeting at Kurt, the creases around Aghilas’s eyes creaking once again in what must be a smile (or a sneer!) underneath his veil. “Kel Steiner. A pleasure to see you again. I hope you are faring better?” Aghilas asks, looking over the man for a moment for a sign of… something.
Kai nods a couple of times at Dante and replies, “Oh cool, tell her I said hello,” easily with a little grin and his gaze turns to Luka, nodding to the man, “I know him,” he agrees and waves at Kurt, “Hey there, Kurt,” he greets the fellow and looks from the man to Vesper and back to Sophie again, lifting his brows at her, murmuring, “Say sense of fashion, you could always hire someone for that.”
Jenny rubs her face looking groggy “I need to nap before my class tonight..” she say as she heads out.
Sophie hums, “My senses.” She thinks for a moment, a long moment and rubs her neck as she does, “I would have to say sight. I couldn’t live without taste, as food is everything. Touch is how I communicate best. Hearing, well music. So I guess that sacrifices sight.”
Kai nods to Sophie, “Hmm… well, you get to pick a person again,” he prompts and peers after the ginger-girl who left, “She didn’t even get a turn, lame.”
Sophie looks around the circle and ends on Dante, “Truth or dare.”
Luka nods his head slowly as he considers Sophie’s comment, folding his arms over his chest. “Sight? Damn. That’s a tough pill to swallow.” Luka tells Sophie before smirking at Kai’s remark “Yeah, I think Kai’s got the right answer there. Respect to you for biting the bullet on your biggest sense though” Luka remarks over to Sophie before looking over to Dante “Your turn big man, what you got for us?”
Vesper nods at Sophie, “A fair choice
Sophie smiles at Vesper and Luka.
Dante responds coolly to Kai, wearing a wicked sneer on his face. “You may speak with her yourself, and she may prove receptive if your heart proves to be true. I cannot speak for the Madame, I can only direct those in need to her.” Canting his head curiously then, the playa narrows his eyes at Sophie and though he breathes out a slow, reluctant exhalation, he answers. “Truth.”
Silence is an answer as any, and Aghilas seems to be fluent in the ways of the quiet. Even though it is, unfortunately, not voluntary for Lola. A dip of his chin follows in acknowledgement of her, and his attention returns to the game at hand. It is clear now that the man in indigo is interested, curious, even unconsciously leaning forward a little when the turn comes to Dante, his personal oak tree and shade from the sun for today’s event.
Kai nods at Dante thoughtfully, “Huh… okay, I can try to speak with her later I guess,” he scratches at his leg lightly and looks over to Luka and laughs, rolling his eyes and looks over Aghilas’s way, he squints at the man thoughtfully, but ultimately looks back Sophie’s way to see what question she poses to Dante.
Sophie grins at Dante and thinks for a moment, before asking, “If you could speak to a younger version of yourself, what advice would you give and why?”
Kurt inclines his head towards Aghilas, “I am, Mister Emenni, thank you. Yesterdays misadventures in the Mist were… Well. Unfortunate, but such is life. Thank you, for your concern.” Shifting his gaze to Lola, Vesper, and Dante, he inclines his head. “You three, I don’t believe I’ve met. Good to make your acquaintance.”
Lola crinkles up her nose when Kurt mentions not knowing her, lifting up her dainty left hand and angrily flipping the man her petite, feminine middle finger in response.
Dante seems momentarily puzzled by Sophie’s question, inhaling, thinking on it, then again sneering his wicked sneer as he answers. “I would have to inform myself to be careful when dealing with women of larger scale.” He searches for the words, or at least makes it look like he has to search for the words, then he concludes. “Man with large harpoon may fear no whale, but whale may break man’s femur. In seven different places.”
Kurt raises a brow towards Lola, before shrugging, turning his gaze to the game at hand.
“I am glad to hear that, amagar.” Aghilas muses towards Kurt, returning with an inclination of his own veiled head. “There is a line by al-Mutannabi, Kel Steiner. It goes; if you would seek out glory’s farthest shore, then be not content with less than stars. We all suffer in pursuit of ambition. When setbacks happen, we must simply keep pushing forward. I have no doubt you will get into many more misadventures, but you will endure. It is the price one pays for their zeal, ih?”
Vesper quickly and suddenly flicks her head towards Kurt and give him a sharp nod, “Vesper Volkov, a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Steiner.”
Kai bursts out laughing at Lola’s middle finger and Dante’s response, he lifts one hand to flip off Kurt as well and snickers softly as he gives Sophie a light bounce with one thigh, resting his chin on her shoulder as he peers at Dante, “Now it’s your turn, Dante,” he prompts the man and lowers his middle finger from Kurt.
Sophie winces and bursts out laughing at Dante’s comment, “Oh..oh dear. Oh dear.”
Dante then sizes up Kurt for several beats, having answered Sophie’s question much like a genie would answer a wish, should one be so brave as to rub its lamp. “Belatedly, I am Dante. And today I think I am also a circus act, but that is alright.” He clears his throat, preparing himself to make a most devastating request of someone in the same vein that one was made of himself. The target? Aghilas is the one he looks toward. “Truth or dare, Desert Storm?”
A glance is shot up at Dante at his answer to the question. Then, Aghilas begins to laugh, loud, ringing through the park. “It is true. I have seen the knees and hips of the proudest riders in the Sahara buckle and fracture — especially if they forget to tighten their grip when she begins to buck.”
A sigh follows at being picked out again, yet he keeps his posture, sat back on his calves. “I will go with another truth.”
Dante carries the tune of Aghilas’s laughter as the man unexpectedly freestyles off the end of his last verse. When the commotion regarding certain Richter scales has been quieted, the playa leans in closer, like a fed at an interrogation table or a gangbanger about to pocket-search Aghilas. The question? “Have you ever killed a man?”
Luka perks his eyebrows up in interest at the question. “Damn, have you ever?” Luka asks Aghilas, looking over at him curiously
Well, on that note Lola is far too out of her element, red in the face as she rises to her feet and quietly dusts herself off. Her rear end is brushed free of any grass or soil, and then she waves to those present before quietly making her way back to the car. It seems she doesn’t have much experience at all with giant harpoons and bucking whales. And what she does, well, it makes her want to run away. Luka gets the greatest farewell of anyone- a little loving wave of her hand before she darts off.
“Yes.” Aghilas answers honestly, not phased by the question. “It would be hard to find someone who hasn’t, where I come from. My people are not united, we are divided, and we war with each other. I am Imajaghen – which means I must make war.”
Sophie raises her hand, “Never killed anyone.”
Kai nods to Sophie, “So pure,” he tells her and gives her thigh a light little pinch, grinning a little at her.
Sophie blushes and sighs, “True.”
Dante takes note of Aghilas’s answer and through all the laughter and silliness, pauses to declare that he recognizes the significance of truth just told. “No shame in war, che, no shame at all. It is often the precursor to peace after all.”
Kurt lets out a soft laugh, nodding to Kai, “I do wonder how many in this circle haven’t, truth being told.”
Luka seems to be flagging a little, the wolf not so used to being up this late. “Alright ladies and gents, it’d been sick. I’m gunna go turn in for the night, you guys feel free to keep playing long as you want, I’ll come around tomorrow to clean the place up” Luka tells the group, getting up to his feet and brushing himself off
Kai gives a wave to Luka, “See you later, it was fun,” he tells the man and asks Sophie, “Wanna keep hanging out or head out too?” he pokes her in the side lightly, then the other side, in general just pestering her with his touch.
