What do these 10 numbers mean? Well, these numbers are something called ‘Unix Epoch Time’ which is the amount of seconds since January 1, 1970 (which, yes, might start being problematic in about 12 years, but hey that’s not our concern at the moment: let’s move on). It’s a pretty universal way of storing time in Unix and as such, there is a handy way of converting it to human readable time!

If we take our number above and plug it into the converter, we get: Monday, May 11, 2026.

The added information this tells me (from that particular gemstone) is that gemstones can be expected to last *roughly six months*. This is a decent window of time, but also broad enough it’s easy to forget. I suggest setting a calendar reminder. But you can also, when giving them as gifts, inform your recipient that if they do not want to pay the favor cost to renew them: to simply bring it back to you on X day and time and you’ll pay the cost. Personally, I suggest about a week beforehand to account for schedules. I’ve been setting my reminders to 3 days beforehand so that I’m less likely to space out and have things poof away.

Hopefully this helps people feel a little better about tracking their favor-purchased items so they don’t wake up with them gone one day or wake up with 24 hours warning and not enough favor to keep the item.
