Calazar’s Mirror Gates and Their Uses [Windermere]

(Calazar’s Mirror Gates and Their Uses [Windermere])

[Thu Jan 29 2026]

An Elegant Theater Main Lobby/span
The main lobby stretches beneath a cracked sunburst medallion and a swaying crystal chandelier, many bulbs left dim to preserve its hush. Burgundy carpet winds through worn footpaths, edged in faded gold sigils mistaken for art deco flair. A console table by the wall offers the evening’s programs beside a leather guestbook, its ink shifting faintly in the light. Mirrors cloud with age and reflect more than the present, while the air carries the scent of dust, floral powder, and the memory of velvet curtains rising. Tall mirrors in gilded frames flank the entrance doors, their surfaces slightly clouded with age, sometimes reflecting details unseen in the lobby.

It is about 50/spanF(10C) degrees. The mist is heaviest At King and Woodcrest/span

Mercy says “Oh.

Mercy forces herself to stop shivering and joins the duo of students to make it a trio.

Calazar looks over the group and tucks his hands behind his back. The ‘teacher’ is dressed much like a hunter or a bullfighter with a sword openly on his hips and vambraces on his arms. Perhaps he must defend himself for his throat has been garishly wounded with a visibly deep scar leading down to his chest a mortal wound to anyone save this man who does not breath nor blink and speaks in gregarious but not breathy ways. “Welcome to the Illusium Court. I have been given permission to use our mirrorgate for this lesson. We will briefly go over what a mirrorgate is, how it functions, and what it is used for before descending into the pit as it were.” those unblinking green eyes look over the group including shivering Mercy. “Does anyone have personal experience using a mirrorgate themselves?”

Mercy flicks a veiled glance sidelong towards Owen, saying nothing for now.

Mercy keeps looking at Owen, slooooowly raising her hand..

As Calazar steps in and begins his lecture Owen straightens up, just a bit to eye the man. As Mercy looks towards Owen, he blinks in confusion, but raises his hand. “I guess, yeah?”

Nemi raises a hand to answer the posed question as she smiles while wearing her trench esc wool winter coat with a smile.

Mercy says “Ayeah, we all do.

Calazar nods as Mercy and Owen raise their hands, “I know you have both passed through a mirrorgate but do you two know how to connect them, operate them?” he inquires in a gregarious spanish accent and then nods to Nemi extending the same using them or operating them query to her.

“Oh, then no!” Owen mentions to Calazar.

Mercy hitches one shoulder in a shrug. “Operatin’ ’em as in usin’ it on my own? Ayeah, lots of experience. Connectin’ not so much.”

Nemi shakes her head. “I only did it successfully one time… on my own sort of with a passenger. Otherwise I’ve not had any experience with them since.”

“Good well mixed experiences. So the basics of Mirrorgates. You can imagine them as supernatural radio signals. The mirrorgates use moonlight to connect them. So in a sense we bounce off the moon and back down to where we are going. Of course it is magic and that is not how it works but it makes it much easier to visualize.” Calazar begins to explain and while he talks there is no fidgeting, no shifting, no nervous energy just him running his fanged mouth while he stands statuesque. “A mirrorgate can be a mirror of any size. It can be a mirror in any world. The Wilds, the Fae Other, the Godrealm, so on so forth. They must have been exposed to moonlight, whether it be our moon or the moon native to that world within the last month or so. As long as that is true than the mirrors can be linked. Normally we have a centralized mirror in someones home or a society or faction base like this which sends out to other mirrors. When the mirrors are connected they work back and forth. You can come, you can go. You connect them by looking into the mirror and envisioning the location of where you want to go. Obviously this can be difficult if you have never been there before or it is offworld where cameras do not work so sketches must be used to depict them besides a picture. Any questions so far?”

Mercy chimes in just to off-handedly wonder, “Anyone ever accidentally mirror themselves into like, an underwater world or an active volcano or somethin’ by accident cause they visualized wrong?”

“Yes.” Calazar says like it is not an outlandish question. “Although when you visualize and connect to a mirrorgate, you will often see through the mirror you are using to the room or space on the otherside of where you are going. So only the unattentive have done so.”

Mercy snorts a quiet laugh at that, satisfied with his answer.

Tilting his head a little bit, Owen thinks it over, listening to Calazar and Mercy both. “They have to be touched by Moonlight? Both the mirrors, and the places? So, you can’t go underground?” He asks, curiously, “Because there’s no light?”

Nemi shakes her head but then she listens and nods once she hears the examples of what happens when what does not exactly pay attention when using a mirrorgate. Smiling a little bit as she successfully holds back her own giggle.

“They have to be exposed to moonlight once a month. So they can be hidden underground or in houses or ruins but if the moonlight never touches the glass, they will stop functioning over time.” Calazar explains and then turns on his heel beginning to walk deeper into the theater his boots clipping on the floor. “Normally the lowest ranks in a society will be tasked with carrying them outside or there will be some kind of opening that is made to expose them to the moon.”

“You can just.. carry them?” Owen asks. “If they’re not exposed to moonlight? Didn’t realize they were like.. things you could move around.”

Calazar says “Well ‘large’ is relative but you get my meaning.

Owen nods his head at that in understanding, “Oh! Interesting, didn’t know that.”

Mercy kind of stares at Nemi expectantly.

Mercy makes a raspy snickering sound to herself while looking at her phone screen.

Calazar does something you should never ever do or abuse.

Calazar unable to move Nemi along, she is abandoned!

There is a short descent into the dark heart of the Masque theater where Calazar warns the students to mind his reflection and then after the elevator *dings* and lets them out on some floor beneath the floor and into a circular chamber with a concerning amonunt of mirrors and a dias with a main one. “Mind my reflection.” he cautions Mercy Owen and Nemi again. “Now this is the Illusium Courts mirrorgate. I will have each of you link it somewhere, but we will not travel simply for time.” he begins to ascend towards it but looks at the students. “Who would like to go first, who remembers a destination gate that they can envision?”

Mercy grunts with some annoyance but keeps her eyes on the floor for the time being. Tentatively, she raises her hand. “I got one, I guess.”

Nemi nods as she follows now that she’s able to catch up. “I-” She stops, wincing as she remembers one locale she’ll probably never return to. “Nevermind… I don’t think its safe for me to travel back to rhagost for…. reasons currently I won’t get into.” She says with a weak smile. “Maybe somewhere with a lot of fields plains and flowers in the other or a god realm more norse themed?”

Calazar looks between Nemi and Mercy and then indicates Mercy, “Alright Mercy, step up. You know how to operate it so everyone watch Mercy and notice how the reflection in the mirror will change.”

Owen watches intently as Mercy begins to attune, or.. well, whatever it is she’s going to do to the mirror gate, standing a little off to the side of the quadruple of people.

Mercy nods once and shuffles her way up to the dais, finding one of the mirrors not currently holding too much of Calazar’s reflection to stare into. It takes a few seconds, but soon enough the mirror’s lens ripples with color and movement and sharper images take shape like brush strokes; somewhere in this world a lone tent sits in the clearing of a forest, a rather mundane sight all things considered, but the well-used campfire pit and improvised lean-to that still manages to stand somehow suggest it is or was a frequent point of travel.

Nemi stands next to Owen as she smiles and simply watches as she slowly leans over to one side to look past Mercy into the mirrorgate as she smiles and claps a tiny bit.

Calazar watches as the reflections within the mirror shift to this lonely camp site in the forest and the nods to Mercy. “Excellent. Now just let the image fade from your mind. Could you tell you felloow students the process you went through.”

There’s an extra minute or so that Mercy spends standing there at the threshold, a foot shifting like she means to go ahead and step through, but Calazar’s voice for better or worse calls her back and she pivots around, severing the focus which causes the image to fade and seep away. “Um.. Kinda jus’ focus on an image of the place in my mind’s eye, an’ let myself feel the pull of the mirror. Weren’t as easy at first, but think the more you visit a place, see it, maybe get a personal connection to it, easier it becomes to find that link again.”

Calazar nods in agreement to Mercy and then shifts those unblinking green eyes onto Owen, “Do you have a place in mind or would you like me to provide a picture of one for you to try?”

Mercy steps down from the dais to rejoin the group in silence.

Calazar[OOC] roomlist or myroomlist followed by travel mirrorgate numberhere is the actual syntax it is pretty straight forward. travel mirrorgate 500 mercy nemi owen would be how to do it with followers.

“I guess I have a place,” Owen says to Calazar, blinking once, then twice. “Yeah, I.. well, I don’t know if it’d actually work, the place I have in mind, just..” Stepping uptowards the dias, Owen closes his eyes, breathes in, and exhales a slow, languid breath. He stares into the mirror.

It probably takes a moment or so, but, soon, something comes into sight, an image of what looks to be a castle, a very specific castle: one that might be very related to Disney. Perhaps, a Magic Kingdom, even.

Mercy says “Y’all Owen’s takin’ us to Disney World, his treat.

Nemi hums, thinking for a few moments chuckling and giggling once she hears what Mercy says as she smiles a bit.

Calazar watches as the mirror ripples and Owen manages to find a rather intriguing mirror. “Interesting. You picked that up quickly. Very good.” he informs Owen and then says, “Now just let the image fade and the mirror will reset so Nemi can try.” and then to Nemi, “Do you have a location in mind or do you need one provided?”

“I don’t feel like.. I did anything in particular,” Owen says, stepping away from the mirror now, “I just.. fond memories as a kid of that place.” He admits, before giving Nemi the dais, and the chance to try.

Nemi shakes her head. “I- I do not sir… I’m sorry for being indecisive…” She says with an apologizes.

Calazar looks between Mercy and Nemi and pauses on providing Nemi an image to picture and waits to see.

Nemi looks over and narrows her eyes and shakes her head no. “No. I’m not welcomed there due to a field trip where a market may or may not have gotten sunk….”

Calazar reaches into his pocket and produces a phone. It appears to be a ballerina practice room a dance studio with a wall length mirror for practicing form. “This is the Illusium Court in Russia. Just picture it and hold it in your minds eye while projecting that onto the mirror in front of you.”

Nemi nods, sighing as she turns to the thing, taking in the photo on the phone as she nods firmly before looking back for a moment as she starts to do her best to visualize the place in question, slowly remembering the details of the dance studio maybe full of life or more but the most notable thing would be the mirror made for such a place, and what it would look like through its reflection likely with some padded walls, a solid floor with no grooves, glossed and shined to perfection.

“So, uh,” Owen asks, now, sort of interrupting Nemi’s attempt, while it seems she’s gathering her thoughts. “What if the place doesn’t have a mirror? You can just.. make one? Kind of?” He asks, gesturing towards the mirror. “I didn’t think mine would work, for example. Visualizing Disney World.”

“Well if there is a mirror there, than it will sync. You can sometimes ‘scan’ for mirrors by envisioning places and trying to pick up on mirror on the other end but generally there is a directory of locations maintained by Factions, Socieites, and groups like the Twilight Bureau or Concordat.” Calazar explains

Mercy bristles with barely restrained, teen-werewolf-near-the-full-moon annoyance but takes a deep breath and, when Nemi manages an image in the mirror, performs the appropriate ‘You did it!’ student golf clap.

Owen also claps for Nemi’s attempt, but nods at Calazar, “Oh, so you can’t.. like, make one? If it doesn’t exist?”

Calazar says “An Arcanist can, I believe it is some magical thing. Unfortunately I am not versed in their creation just their use.

Calazar says “I suppose to reference your popular culture. It is like fireplaces in Harry Potter. Everywhere has a fireplace, but not every fireplace is connected to the wizardy network.

Calazar just made a dated pop culture reference to a children’s series with a straight face.

There’s a laugh from Owen at that, but he nods. “Right, that makes sense!”

Calazar nods in agreement. “As a member of the supernatural community access to mirrors is normally behind association with factions, societies, or cults. But they are very helpful when traveling especially if you dislike plane flights.” he explains in his gregarious spanish accent. “Now if no one has any questions since you all successfully used the mirrorgate, I do not think we have anything else to do?”

“Or long bus rides.” Mercy adds in, shaking her head. “Think m’jus’ gonna be extra mindful of what I’m imaginin’ goin’ forward.”

Nemi shakes her head. “I’d say this lesson covered a lot of things extremely well… I just wish more people attended honestly.”

Calazar says “That is alright, one cannot account for the attention of others. Let me show you out.
