Hi, my name is Arachne and this is my TED talk on how to make incitements and opportunities that are fun, cool, and thematic for your character so you can be a victim of courier patrols and predator patrols in the lookfor system.
See: Help opportunity, help incitement
Opportunities are scenarios you write up for your character to be interacted with. You can specify details like what your character is doing and where they are, as well as even the specific time of day and outfit they’d be in for that scenario.
They come in 3 varieties: social (hangouts, meet cutes, etc), predatory (you’re being chased), and courier (you have some valuable stuff someone wants to steal).
To make an opportunity, you use make opportunity which puts you in an editor.
Note: The room you’re in is the room the editor will pull for the location.Commands to be used:
Location, regardless of input, sets location to the current room.
Outfit ‘outfit nickname’
Hour can be designated to any time with proper argument.
Hour without argument sets it to any.
Courier by itself toggles on courier
Predatory by itself toggles on predatory
social by itself toggles on social, but opens subtypes. Now here is the fun part. Type description to open up the editor, where you can make a description of any kind to put in relevant scene information.
[I am pausing here to see if automod will kick it again.]
Example Opportunities are:
Opportunity
Location: Fish Market Warehouse
Outfit: DangerDanFit
Hour: Any
Predatory: Yes
Courier: Yes
Social: No
Description:
A tip-off about a potential package of interest may have been intercepted, placing a member of the Illusium Court/The Hand in the general vicinity of Fish Market Warehouse to receive it and bring it back to an undisclosed drop-off.Opportunity
Location: La Tresor Fuyant Bordello
Outfit: Baddie Fit
Hour: 23:00
Predatory: Yes
Courier: Yes
Social: No
Description:
A young woman skulks about the bordello’s front room uncomfortably, constantly checking her phone, and pacing anxiously just beside the door. Guests eye her curiously, but give her wide berth, assuming she must be waiting for someone – or something.strong>Incitements provide plausible IC reason for why the character using lookfor [the aggressor/attacker] would engage with your character. The easiest and most basic examples are them being enemies in conflict.
Incitements let you make eligibility criteria for different groups of people, and can have multiple ones. Remember that these are essentially RP hooks that are going to be seen by the person who matches to antagonize/attack you, so it makes sense to put a teensy bit of thought into these.
In general, the best place to look for faction or society-related RP hooks can be from the faction pages themselves, under their listed goals. For these examples, I am going to write my incitements like I were a new, bright-eyed Librarian of the Order and use both my character’s personal hooks, the Order’s missions, and the Hand’s missions since they’re ideological enemies.
To make an incitement, you’ll type make incitement which gives you a blank slate that looks like this:
Incitement
Eligibility:
Description:Note: Eligibility can take multiple critiera using:
eligibility The Hand, Tier 3, The Hollow ConclaveExamples are below.
Incitement
Eligibility: The Hand, Tier 3, The Hollow Conclave
Description: The name of Arachne BabyOrderite Mercer has been appearing in myriad intelligence reports, outlining her constant meddling in the affairs of groups like The Hollow Conclave and The Hand as of late. Details report her to be an overzealous glory hound, chasing opportunities to disrupt the Hand’s operations to target vulnerable humans and even recently went so far as to run schemes to make the Hollow Conclave’s lesser supplicants to repent and seek holistic ways of dealing with their pain and suffering rather than inflicting it on others.Incitement
Eligibility: Any
Description: A relatively new face in the city of New Haven, Arachne BabyOrderite Mercer has not yet become wise to the natural order of things within the city, and is often stumbling her way from one situation after another, fueled by her desire to make a name for herself as quickly as possible to curry favor with her superiors in the Order. Another glory hound in the makings, it seems. What trouble will befall the young plucky heroine now?Incitement
Eligibility Tier 3, Tier 4, Tier 5
Description: Arachne BabyOrderite Mercer has been known to invite forces of darkness in her life, foolishly believing that the light of her hope can somehow provide an opportunity to draw them in to redemption by offering herself up as a lure. Better her, who is prepared for what comes, than a helpless victim. How often are these done? I can see if they’re overdone it gives heavy ‘pick me’ player energy. I’m fascinated by the idea.
I usually spot someone on ‘order survey’ once every other day or so. It’s a good way to match up antagonists with people who want to be antagonized, so definitely don’t worry about overdoing it. Whole point is to match people up who are into it so you aren’t wasting your time with people who are not.
I definitely wish I could find people on the list more often, so I’m really glad this was posted.

However, players are limited to 1 courier patrol and 1 predator patrol once a week, roughly, give or take. They’re also opt-in, so you don’t have to do these if you don’t want to. They’re great and fun, and you don’t have to get captured once the fight’s over, and can flee, which I also think is an additional layer of assurance that you don’t just end up being forced into more than you were willing to give. That’s the fun of the RPfight system.
