It’s my understanding that when fabled are codedly in a relationship, they occasionally get imprints encouraging them to develop a sudden infatuation with a character outside the relationship.

    But the help file states:

Fabled characters are always monogamous, it’s unclear if only monogamous people are chosen or if the magical effect changes them to be so.

They have a mild lifeforce debuff when single, and any time they have sex outside of a monogamous relationship they are karmically punished.

As the player of a fabled character, lore-wise could we get some clarity on this? I think I may not be understanding the definition of monogamous here. Like do the fates want them to cheat?

I believe the game does it to cause drama. Fabled are entertainment. The fable having the desire to fuck other people is the whole… like show! Will they, won’t they the real life trope!

The ‘outside of a monogamous relationship’ also applies to straight up just being single. So if you’re single and have a one night stand you’re still going to get karmically punished for it. The only difference between the single punishment and the cheating one is that along with the ‘terrible accident’ news blip there will also be a rumor of ‘[Fabled] hooked up with [So-and-So]’.

So it’s really up to the Fabled themselves how they want to play that up, but generally I think it’s implied that most fabled want to be in a relationship and be faithful, etc. But things just Never Work Out so they’re bouncing from one relationship to the next in whatever pacing is so desired by the player/character.
