This post is in question of how Fabled characters should be viewed and spoken about publicly.

It feels very strange to me when situations arise such as a monster guest demanding specifically in the chatroom or from characters for a Fabled to be presented to them, or when characters openly talk about needing to find a Fabled for specific tasks. Sort of like using mechanical terms of, “I need to get two more spaces over to the southwest so I’ll be in optimal shooting range for my rifle,” in an emote during a raid, or noting, “I can help you out with that ritual because I have four focus points in arcane!” during an IC scene, and even things said by characters like, “Let’s keep this conversation in line with the current content warnings.”

Maybe my cringe reaction is off base, but I would very much like to know how the lore is intended and if it should be a more secretive topic, or one that can be spoken of freely.

We know that Fabled characters can never know that they are Fabled, but how do non-Fableds see them? When looking at their aura, is that a mechanical bit of information for OOC reasons that would more or less only make a character feel an urge to kidnap the Fabled above all others and present them to a monster, for instance? Or are they wholly aware that this person is Fabled and won’t have a lasting romantic relationship ever in their life, etc?

Thank you for your time, as it is greatly appreciated.

    P.S.

And also are the responses, “Just give the monster a Fabled, they’ll be back in six weeks,” appropriate, and Is that knowledge characters would know? Would characters feel like they should be providing the monster with a Fabled, knowing that in six weeks the Fabled will return unharmed?

    Henlo, I play a Fabled.

And while I am new to Haven, I am not new to RP (though I have primarily a MUSH background). I am someone who can be stubborn about remaining IC in things. One thing I have noticed about the chatrooms (NewHaven especially) is that I think a lot of people slip into treating it like a Public channel. IC/OOC blurs quite often on it (and I do not mean when one of us mischans from Newbie as we have all done it both ways).

The way I play it is when my Fabled has it mentioned around her, it’s like someone hits a rewind or reset button. She just smiles it away or focuses on some other aspect of the conversation. She even does this when someone tries to inform her she must behave a certain way or do a certain thing ‘because the gods.’ I understand it from a gamer perspective. When people see ‘character with problem,’ they want to be the one to save the character and ‘solve’ the problem. It comes from a well-meaning place.

It is a… similar attitude when it comes to the Monster situation. Everyone knows that a Fabled given to a Monster makes the Monster go away. Lives are saved. So it becomes a solution to a problem. A way to help people! And people can get lazy about certain things.

Now, even THAT said… there are certain character types where this makes sense. Antagonists who are being bothered by the monster. Pragmatists who see the sacrifice of the one to save the many as an easy choice. Being so casual about it on the chatrooms is perhaps a little iffy and you begin to get into the concept of if a Fabled does not know they are Fabled do they know another is Fabled and if you know others are Fabled can you wonder if you are Fabled but if you ask if you are Fabled and someone tells you and you don’t know you are Fabled could you live life assuming you are….

……. end of the day even if my personal preference is that people do not talk that way? There are going to be canonical fallacies no matter what, so I stick to my own lane and tune out the stuff that doesn’t jive.

The Fabled aura is visibly distinct. The monster expressed “wanting someone who sparkles,” which was later interpreted as a possible reference to the aura, leading to mentions of Fabled from other players. No direct inquiry was made to confirm if this was what the monster wanted.

This is the same line as … seeing if someone is ‘fallen’. If aura is IC and you can tell someone is ‘fallen’ then fabled should be IC and other people can be like. Ew you have that aura and I’m not going to date you because something horrible will happen to our relationship in a few months.

Or people can be like oh I can’t be around you because you’re corrupted.

But if it isn’t IC then people are just weirdly avoiding people for no reason and guessing they’re T1/t2/t3.

I would say fabled people are like those supernatural people in the movies who are like, ohhh other people have power but i’m just a normal person… And strongly hold that belief

Looking at other fabled characters’ auras, I usually see a line that says your aura “shows telltale signs of being fabled.”

I initially heard the term used in RP but more subtly. People would refer to it vaguely. As someone playing a Fabled character who can see other people’s fabledness but not her own, I just try to keep it classy by not forcefully rubbing the actual term in that Fabled character’s face as if it was game mechanic verbage.

Sadly, the way people have been mentioning this and other such things lately has been like this. ^ It is cringe to me too, but at the same time I wonder if that’s just how this game is supposed to be played now.
