in reply to: Let’s Talk Favour (Again) #24652
Oh. And I don’t think personal favour is implemented well at all yet. The idea is great. But make it actually worth wasting your time. Fifty favour a week is not getting you anything. You’d need a whole month to investigate a single scheme… and almost a whole year for a single bolt of faecloth.
in reply to: Let’s Talk Favour (Again) #24651I wasn’t saying the Vigil was raking in thousands. I know people who do rake in 500+, though. One got 700 this week. Most of ‘us’ got 50, with two outliers getting 100.
I share your grievances with this system – Being active feels punished, almost. Why would I waste ten plus hours a week mostly doing single-player content and still end up with 50 favour. Despite us holding two boroughs. It is rubbish. It is actively spitting on the player and their invested time in our cases.
While I like Matias’ suggestions, I don’t think top %es is a good solution. Not when we do not even know what calculates that, as the system still seems HEAVILY skewed to favour people just hosting/spamming events, or it might promote people forgoing any and all grid activity to just grind mist hunting for days. I’d rather it just be a more balanced system that rewards people taking time away from roleplaying, and investing it in societal gameplay. If you are active; If you hunt, if you attend events, if you patrol, etc., you should be given some due payment for it.
And as I said before, I think it is just plain bulls… that there are people who barely need to do more than log on and maybe attend a raid or two per week who are given upwards of fifteen times more favour than someone who sank ten if not twenty hours into actively grinding patrols/hunts/raids/etc.
in reply to: Let’s Talk Favour (Again) #24613Appreciate the thoughts, Calk. I can’t help but agree with you fully. Don’t think anyone wants Favour turned into an overly-complicated system, we genuinely don’t need Attractiveness Code 2.0 – and I think another core issue in this system is the fact it rewards someone not just with flavour-oriented items (think faecloth or charms), but the fact it gates Relics, Charon coins, ordering research/investigations..
Haven has always had its playerbase quite split; There are those who fiercely enjoy making very competent combat-oriented builds, to find niches that work either as a lone wolf combatant or in group format, and care far less for other aspects of the game. There are those who wish to tell stories, to explore narratives together with others, and who don’t give two dimes and a penny about the combat aspect of Haven. There are people who like the idea of experiencing a narrative-driven story in a group of people, catered to this group’s specific flavour (think a specific House of a God, a commune of witches, etc.).
The fact Favour is allowing some insane and incredible power-ramp makes it a resource which, no matter how you design it, is going to get investigated in hopes of min-maxing its gains. People will want to make sure they get the most out of it. Is this inherently bad, I don’t think necessarily is, though it becomes a major problem once the reward isn’t being handed out evenly, or when people who want this resource just for buying charms, gemstones, etc., are getting out-gamed by those looking to dominate the combat game.
And that kind of feels like it is the case right about now. Already, the system is paying out better to people who opt into societies with a low player count. ‘Just join those groups too’ isn’t an excuse of sorts, I think, as some people create characters with very defining traits that just do not fit into those groups. You can’t tell me to just join the Vigil as a predating Supernatural for example, and to then just join because gains is very much anti-roleplay and steers you straight into gaming-the-system territories.
My main issue with the current system is the fact it just doesn’t pay you out according to actual merits. Sinking ten or more hours into side-activities, some of which are just time-sinks you grind through solo in hopes of participating in your society’s game and being an active contributor, should at least come with a better pay-out than a measly 50 favour. Especially when this formula is paying 500+ favour out to people who may have only sunk a quarter of the time someone else sank in, but who chose to sit in one of the low-pop groups.
Do we want people to forgo joining any of the bigger societies just because they wouldn’t be able to enjoy any of the things Favour allows for? (don’t forget, it is also a resource to convert into other currencies, which can be direly needed)
Do we sacrifice characters’ integrity to their concept, their backstories, and force them to pretty much just retcon what they were conceptualized at in order for them to find a place in the societies they wouldn’t otherwise be a fit with?
A lot of these kinds of questions could be asked. I still believe Favour is skewing any semblance of balance. It promotes creating characters while already keeping in mind possible optimization of mechanics such as favour accumulation in a low-pop group.

No clue why it posted this here. I was browsing ATS and wrote the post while that was open.

in reply to: New Players and Old: Death & You! #19886“My biggest character flaw is when someone punches me in the nose then I absolutely feel the need to slug them right back.”
Work on this. Nobody reacts well to someone being unable to take an L. This is consistently an issue with you. Not only do you not take any feedback or criticism, you escalate -everything- and as this interaction in the hunt proved, you don’t know a damn thing about RP etiquette, have zero patience or understanding, and cannot fathom resolving shit like a normal adult.
I don’t antag a single person. I get into raids, I get into a few rare grid fights, but I don’t cripple characters, bombard them with rituals, tie them up and gag them, I don’t beat them up when I easily can, I don’t arrange hit squads, I don’t seek revenge via mechanical winnery, I don’t use ‘easy win buttons’ like just carrying naturalizer during full moons or having a stake ready to just force any vampire into an easy victim role whenever I feel like it, etc.. Find me one person in-game who can actually recall me being a dick to them ICly and ruining their ability to RP something out.
This is where you failed, miserably and horrendously. To RP -anything- out.
Let me repeat it for you. You -instantly- staked her, paralyzing their character to come out as the coded victor in what is universally accepted as a total dick-move. This isn’t ‘telling a story’. You could’ve bound her and threatened with a stake, you could’ve stalked her and corner her some other time to resolve it, you could’ve gone down a hundred-and-one different paths which wouldn’t have painted you out as an unhinged, gun-ho lunatic who escalates over the stupidest of shit.
You got hit, once, in a chaotic fight. Come on – It was seven damage, you wanna pretend it’s clear as day she was obviously trying to gank you ICly? You are in melee, and there’s active movement going on, and someone trying to land a few shots on an enemy. Grazing shots and friendly fire is almost expected, and reasonable, in my head.
What’s next, you going to decapitate a person because someone meatshielded (martial arts skill) you and caused someone else to hit you once? In your book, I bet that’s still a valid repercussion.
Connie’s response was telling. She wanted NOTHING to do with a person who did something that unhinged. That should tell you something. You made a big oopsie. And could have instantly remedied this very, very easily. Apologize. Grovel, for all I care. Even now, some admission of guilt would’ve come a long way, but by now I’m not buying any apology or diplomatic words coming out of your mouth.
You cannot handle anything. You can’t be antagged. You can’t be reasoned with. You can’t be repercussed against without blowing the fuck up. Do not engage others with hostile actions in that case. If you can’t take a blow to your nose in a game where taking losses is pretty much written into the theme, play something else.
We aren’t ass. You’ve been an ass and you were getting treated as one. You know fully well you exhaust any and all energy to keep things diplomatic with your MO. And if you don’t, go over this post again. If you can’t see how you absolutely crushed any hope to be treated with patience, and understanding, there’s something wrong.
And I getchu, Luka. I’m addressing other things other than my own issue after the run-in with Leon. Don’t see how this is killing my ability to engage peacefully with anyone else. Most of us are probably on the same boat – We think he’s someone you just do not interact with, you do not include, you do not seek out, and you just deal with him when needed. He still denies making any accusations first, when he’s been hostile and accusatory since the first post. He takesies-backsies his own arguments the second they’re debunked. This is not something we should just tolerate and stomach, shrug off and let be.
in reply to: New Players and Old: Death & You! #19867I’ll be the first. Crayola did nothing wrong.
Mistargeting because of weird Illusory Mancing tricks isn’t ‘doing something wrong’. Mistakes happen, to err is human. She immediately did the adult thing and tried clear the air, and apologized. She didn’t continue attacking you and executed you the second you were down in the fight or whatever. She also didn’t call her entire Court to immediately rush to the hunting zone to come murder your ass or back her up when you starting crying on the comms.
You did everything wrong. You immediately escalated by calling your society to your aid and making it out as if she was purposely murdering you. You ignored her apologies. You STAKED HER. How many times do we have to explain it to you before it gets into that thick skull of yours.
YOU. STAKED. HER.
This is not a diplomatic approach. This is not a good-natured gesture of sportsmanship. This is not how you respond, ICly or OOCly, unless you literally wanted a full-blown war with blood spilled.
No patience. No compassion. No understanding. No sympathy. No communication. Nothing. Just ‘assume murder and go unhinged’. Real mature response, yeah.

in reply to: New Players and Old: Death & You! #19798There’s 1440 minutes in the day. The coincidence that your bowels decided to cripple you to the point of being unable to type communicating words out, and instead go in some Fight Or Flight where it only transmitted words of escape out to your hands THAT exact minute sounds rather suspect at worst, if not ridiculously coincidental at best. We can get into a game of ‘no u’ing this game of trying to pinpoint who causes the spawns all day.
And, dude. It’s Haven’s PvE. You don’t need to have a StarCraft player’s APM in it. I can literally play the PvE combat with one hand while on the phone at work. And no, this isn’t the standard, but don’t pretend that situation we were in was -so- APM-demanding you couldn’t squeeze out a few basic words.
Either way, that whole topic aside, you once again seem to have almost everyone telling you there’s many flaws in your reasoning, or your narrative of an escalated situation, and only try and divert the blame instead of owning up to anything.
Don’t pretend the original post was just some friendly advice, some pointers of how not to play. We’ve all long told you how none of us agree you ‘acted reasonably’ by:
– ignoring her apologies
– ignoring that she said it was accidental
– instantly calling the cavalry on her
– pretty much instantly staking her after it
– etc….How do you consistently not know anything about combat, but seem to want to get knee-deep in it when it.. suits you? You don’t know this. You’re overwhelmed by that. You don’t know staking wounds its victim despite actively handing out stakes and knowing they even exist. You are overwhelmed with way too much MAP stuff for what is just simple PvE in a street. Real convenient of an excuse to just play clueless when it suits you.
Besides, you DID namedrop after just the one reply. Stop pretending Bean is now somehow to blame for this.
in reply to: New Players and Old: Death & You! #19778You have 15-45 second windows between attack/move firing. You can queue sprintss/move up to basically double that window. It takes two seconds to type ‘Gotta dip’. It’s that fucking simple.
in reply to: New Players and Old: Death & You! #19773type ‘say Gotta dip,,’
Solved. This miracle fix scientists will hate you for knowing about costs a whole two seconds.
As per the other issue, a little bit of communication could have prevented it all. But that seems like a difficult concept for you to grasp.

in reply to: New Players and Old: Death & You! #19756‘Yours’..?
This isn’t ‘a big clique vs you’. This is us speaking up when someone’s crying and playing the victim, pointing fingers everywhere. Someone call the entire MUD out for something as simple as a Rumour, and suddenly this is mass conspiracy. Someone gets beat up due to having a hit put on them after bigtime asshole behaviour on chat. Suddenly, this is mass conspiracy and griefing. Some new cops get caught doing the most uncop things. Suddenly, everyone is making shit up and lying and it’s all mass conspiracy — while then simultaneously trying to bribe me, through someone else, to make the evidence of my spycam network vanish.
Not the way to mingle into the community.
Hell. Call us all a clique all you want. I’m sure many here can attest me + them don’t see eye to eye often. I’m one of the most isolationist players we have. I make rooms, shops, goods, props, outfits.
Lord, I am starting to get convinced I need to start logging on all my clients. Which I don’t, ’cause I play from: 3 work laptops, 2 work phones, a personal desktop, a personal laptop, a personal phone, and a tablet, depending on where I’m at or who I’m working for at the time. Because I vividly recalled you walking into my room several times. I saw you move towards, and away, from me several times. You did not interact. You did not go ‘lets fall back’. You just walked into a warehouse and shut the door.
This is going to be a repeat of some of the other posts, no? You, being the Cartman who can’t let anyone have a last word, and won’t see any wrongs in their ways. You literally opted for a stake. Read the helpfile: It crits or severes. Both are pretty much PK venues. You know how easy it is to let someone bleed to death when Severed? That isn’t ‘I just KO punch them, tie them up, and drag them away for punishment’. That is ‘I grab the double-barreled, put it to their throat, and just pull the trigger’ kind of a response. I’m out. I know this is not going to end until this topic gets locked, if ever, by Disco.
This would be a fair point if there was some actual choice in societies. Currently, there.. kind of isn’t. The five societies are rather inflexible excl the Court, though that alone is a slice of pie not any character can just fit into, too. What would incentivize players splitting up was more diversity to begin with. Then again, maybe this is where cults fit in – but them being hidden is not at all helpful for that, and it requiring Eidolon stuff also isn’t. To play the smaller socs, you’d have to essentially create a char from scrap with a rather specific concept already in mind just to fit. That is kind of against the spirit of making characters in roleplay-heavy environments to me.
I wouldn’t play a DnD campaign if I only get to play the Human Male Fighter archetype exclusively, or only get to play the perfect Goody Two-Shoes types of Paladins.
Right now, it seems like people pick a B3 + a soc ’cause what’s the drawback? Two sources of favour income, yay! More people to call for in case of rescue, yay! More people to hopefully help chip in charon coins, yay! The big numbers aren’t a guarantee of roleplay and interaction – A good few of those people could just be sitting in it, comms off, and not interacting at all, while maining another soc. This has happened, and this will happen (and likely already is happening to some degree).
I say get rid of this. Pick a faction, or join a society. That alone would help massively with dividing the playerbase into smaller groups. Other than Vigil and Temple, there is very little overlap between the groups as is. And, hopefully, cults can list themselves as public – I think some variety is direly needed.
in reply to: Mist thoughts? #19707Sadly, I have seen the game bork up even driving one stop to the west/east/north/south. Parked outside of mist. Wanted to move one stop west. It, somehow, pushed me all the way north into the mist and then turned east until it literally hit Mariner. And yes, I -was- looking West before starting my drive command. Thankfully, I was on horseback so not at risk, but it’s definitely got its moments where the drive pathing just forgoes any and all logic and shouts ‘PARKOUR’ at you while taking the weirdest sidepaths. Not to mention I’ve also seen it already cycle into an unfinishable loop in an alley for over 30 minutes — It would seem that the whole ‘automatically get booted from your car at your drive location after X minutes’ is removed.. but that’s a petition I’ve already made. (kept me trapped in a car for >2 hours, once, could not even fire ‘park’ after the first 20 or so minutes)
