Roleplayingattractiveness

Attractiveness statistics can often lead to poor RP, usually for two reasons. Firstly sometimes it seems like people try to use their attractiveness stat to force others into wanting their character, secondly people often don't like being told who to find attractive.

In Inferno attractiveness represents a person's base attractiveness without clothes, makeup, Photoshop, good lighting etc and judges this by physical characteristics that are universal or near-universal in that culture. This means things like; symmetry, facial sexual dimorphism, low body fat percentage, waist to hip ratio in women, V-shaped torsos in men etc.

When is it ok to consider a lower attractiveness character as attractive or more attractive than a higher attractiveness character?

When other universal factors have a very significant impact, clothes(particularly shapewear) makeup, lighting, Photoshop etc. If the more attractive char is just hanging around in sweats it's perfectly reasonable to consider a less attractive char their equal or superior if they're all dolled up for date night or something similar, of course there are limits to how much of an effect this will have, use common sense.

If your character has a serious fetish; it's not that uncommon for someone to have a fetish for some unusual feature, overweight people, amputees, or even more normal ones like being obsessed with blondes. In this case it's reasonable to consider a character more attractive to you in comparison with others if they have the subject of this fetish. Note that it must be a fairly serious fetish, simply really liking blondes wouldn't make that much difference.

Your character is from a different time period or other very different culture. For instance in times of wide-spread food deprivation(most of history) higher body fat percentages were considered more attractive than they are today.

When playing an attractive character you do not have to be a stereotype but nor should you buck it too hard. Attractive females don't have to be big breasted blondes or any such thing, but nor should they be described as morbidly obese. Use common sense, if you want to know if something is ok go look it up, there's lots of information online about the science of attractiveness.

When dealing with attractive characters it's important to note that physical attractiveness is only one part of what makes someone attracted to a person, it's perfectly reasonable to choose the less attractive char over the more attractive one if you like their personality a lot more etc, just so long as you don't RP that you find them more physically attractive. It's of course perfectly ok for your character to say they find them more attractive.

Lastly do not describe or represent your character visually in a way that is significantly out of line with their attractivness stat. Supermodel pictures should not be used for attractiveness 0 characters nor should they be described as incredibly beautiful etc.
