Yasmins Syndicate Bargain

(Rachel's syndicate bargain)

[Tue Dec 26 2023]

In Town Hall Southern Meeting Room

It is about 50F(10C) degrees.

Yasmin inclines her head at Clara in greeting, leaning against the wall to keep an eye on the entrance of the room. "Good morning," she tells the woman, then flashes Rachel a smile.

"It's not normal for kidnapping to happen this often," Rachel says, by way of greeting to Yasmin. Clara's just given a nod and a small wave.

"It is here," Yasmin says with a shrug, not too concerned. "Supply and demand. Or something. Economics." Nobody ask her about economics.

Clara rushes into the room a bit out of breath. "Damn trolley left without me. Hey. Did I miss it?" Once settled in a bit, she gives Yasmin and Rachel a nod. "Hey."

"Is Sav the *only* police officer in this town? Maybe that's the issue." Rachel doesn't impugn upon the good Deputy's abilities - just in her absent cohort's.

"I thought Ari was one too. He showed up when I made a call at one point, in any case." Clara frowns at that idea.

"Ten minutes," Yasmin tells Clara. Rachel's question gets a thoughtful pause. "He is. But he is also a student."

"Only in this ridiculous town would a student be a police officer. Aren't there years of mandatory school before you're allowed to be a part of the force?" For an American, Rachel seems to have very little idea of how these institutions work.

"Not even close. You go to police academy for a year or less, which is just a bunch of one-time physical fitness trials, and then you get a badge and a gun. That's in the better states. Worse states will just hire people off the street with little to no background checks. After all, the police force was originally created simply as a gang for factory owners to beat the shit out of union members." Well, that set something off. Clara seems a bit fired up at the topic.

Yasmin's eyebrows arch up, and her eyes flick between Clara and Rachel, as though fully expecting the former's fieriness to set off the latter as well. Any second now...

Peyton offers a half-hearted, "Tada." As she dumped free.

"Oh, it's you," Rachel says. She probably hadn't meant to sound so disappointed.

Peyton smiles gratefully, rubbing at her wrists.

Clara scratches the back of her neck and glares at the notification on her phone as her bank account informs her of a suspicious purchase. When the woman is brought out, she immediately gets to work undoing the knots. "Fucking Syndicate cunts."

"I don't think you can," Yasmin tells Rachel quietly in response to whatever she'd said before Peyton's arrival, before moving over to help Clara untie the woman. "Are you okay, Miss Peyton?"

Peyton clears her throat, "I can make sure you're reimbursed. How dear did I come?" She says, as she wobbles her way back to her feet, like a newborn filly on high heels.

Rachel only remembers to help when she's left alone, with neither Clara nor Yasmin beside her. She steps forward - although by then, Peyton's free already. Too little, too late.

Clara shakes her head at that. "Not going to tell you, you shouldn't have to pay for what they did to you. What matters is you're free now."

Peyton nods her he head simply, pulling out her phone to check the signal, and more discreetly her makeup. "Well, thank you kindly, stranger. My name is Peyton Bennett, by the way." She offers her hand in a professional sort of way. "Won't forget the favored owed, at the very last." She promises, ih a warm southern acccent.

Yasmin keeps a wary hand on Peyton's elbow, just in case she's got any plans of falling over in her wobbliness; not that the not-quite-five-feet Yasmin could do a lot to keep it from happening, but it's the thought that counts, right? "Want me to drive you somewhere?" she asks the recently-abducted.

"I'd offer, but no one ever wants the bike when the Porsche comes out." Probably not least Peyton, who's decked head to toe in brand name clothing. Rachel's clearly noticed - she cocks her head, scrutinizing. "I gotta go. But uh... don't get kidnapped again." As if that were in anyone's control.
