I have had nothing but problems with invitation. Nova was kind enough to drop my invitation based off a petition from i6 to an i2. I bargained for strength to take me to i3. Not an issue. It was expected and planned. I tried to bargain purity for a test and was told that I’ve exhausted my ability to bargain for purity. I am supposing that this is a cool-down. I’ll be patient and wait.
But after a week and a half of not RPing but for a few texts here and there with a T3 and then spending a 2 hour scene last night that was completely mundane in nature, to include some hints at them needing redemption, I found myself at i4. This morning, I texted a lower tier, found myself at i3. Within 2 texts to said T3, I’m back at i4.
Now — please understand, I am not arguing that RP with a higher tier should not raise your invitation. It should. But I feel like the timeframe in which my character is getting dinged for it is a bit on the high side. And I don’t know why. I also thought that it was only supposed to tick once per day, per a post made by Nova. That much said, I think I do like seeing it happen as it happens…
I wouldn’t make such a stink about it, if it didn’t feel overly quick.
We are talking about a character that started out in a (non-coded) relationship with the T3 before they were a T3. So, yes, there is a desire to continue RPing out a relationship, but it’s also been a bunch of scenes to talk about how she’s worried about him. There is a lot of history between the two characters.
What exactly is the LLM looking at in terms of what is ‘inviting evil’ and what is not, and how far back is it looking?
Thank you.
One thing that might be occurring is that after the strength bargain, the character was put at something like invitation 3.98, and you’ve just been bopping up and down between 4.01 and 3.99, and the rp session wasn’t actually that impactful.
I don’t know if you want to risk it, but you might try rping exclusively with the T3 until you hit I5. If my presumption is correct, it should take a very long time.
My invitation has never gone up. Started at 0, still at 0, never even went up to 1 temporarily. I pay no attention to what tier people are and don’t make any sort of effort to avoid any RP that could cause a rise in invitation, so while this has left me with little insight into the inner workings of the system, I do suspect that something’s dodgy with it.
If, as people speculate, the LLM is basing it all on its interpretation of our RP, I wonder if it might just be doing a bad job of it. Maybe something as simple as a player’s writing style can determine whether or not one’s invitation goes up. If the LLM judges this based on how friendly we appear to be and things like that, it could be getting it wrong. After all, it’s a game where characters are often duplicitous or manipulative.
I’ve often wondered just how much the LLM “sees.” Is it perpetually monitoring and recording all of the game? It’s already awkward when you go on a patrol and the LLM takes over playing your character for you, putting out emotes and speech that you didn’t choose. I’ve also heard faction NPCs talking about other characters who weren’t present, so it’s clear that the LLM has an “opinion” about people.
LLMs have a tendency to get their wires crossed. They can get stuck in weird insanity loops and start acting irrationally, or make stuff up out of the blue if they feel like they have to fill in gaps. Haven’s AI does that right now when it takes over our characters on patrols, so if it is indeed in charge of deciding what invitation level our characters should be at, it might be making stuff up there, too.
I do notice pretty consistently the people who talk about having Invitation troubles are also people who are using Bargain.
Nova has explicitly stated (though it should really be in the helpfile) that Bargain is for people who WANT Invitation so they can get it higher more easily.
I have never run a Bargain of any form and I remain at i0 after hours of RP with a variety of t3s in a variety of situations.
I would strongly suggest just not running Bargains if you do not want Invitation.
Also it being based on the game’s assessment of our RP is not speculation: Nova said it explicitly in a previous AtS. It’s the same system, according to this, that reviews RP for our RPXP income, which has indeed been buggy more than a few times.
As mentioned, bargain is intended for people who want higher invitation. It would not surprise me if beyond rising invitation, it also made it easier to gain invitation, for that reason. Not saying how that works, but you know, Nova works in mysterious ways and using system x for its purpose may lead to its purpose happening in sometimes unexpected ways.
Obviously only Nova can answer this with fact, but I would /strongly/ recommend to stick to bargain purity while trying to keep invitation down under duress.
