Going back to H5 means no cults and player societies as well as the B3, conflict over boroughs is replaced with operations which happen around the world or in other realms. Other realms are discoverable through doors in the outer forest and the supernatural is secret while individuals are protected by sanctuary.
260 bug fixes have been backported to H5, as well as several other qol and performance improvements.
H7 style appearance and content control systems are backported. As are new origin powers like coinflip. Climbing, jumping and street pathing have been backported and weather was moved to H7 style real weather tracking and H7 style myHaven.
The Storyrunner system from H7 has also been backported.
For karma/rpexp the system is a hybrid, so you’ll get half your rpxp from word count as in the traditional H5 and half from log evaluation, similar for karma, some new anti-spam controls have been added to the word count side of it.
Also implemented the anti vpn/improved firewall of H7.
News has been also hybridized, with the old coded weekly news kept but the language spruced up a little via LLM and an underground newsletter available as a physical object in the goblin market replacing the chronicle with fewer articles.
The institute has been updated to something about half way between white oak and blackfield called Greystone. It has the campus of White oak and the same asylum/college split along with sorority/fraternity houses, but has a closer to blackfield aesthetic with staff having more power over the college students than they did in white oak. Teach/Traumatic/Experiment are back but with LLM assessment to ensure the content actually is what’s claimed and apply bonuses according to ratings.
The founding families are back, you’ll need to either have 1k community credit or have earned 10k karma to play them. Each FF patriarch/matriarch will be an animated on grid NPC you can go RP with if you want, and if you play an FF member they also may occasionally call you or send you a message to give you their, no doubt judgemental, thoughts about what you’ve been up to.
There’s a new command nhostile, which takes a target and enters you into a hostile stance, if this stance triggers however it triggers as a nightmare pull on the target, and one that only brings people already in the room into the deep nightmare fire. It also triggers if someone else enters the room and doesn’t include them in the deep nightmare fight.
Living Nightmares have been replaced with something called a Noctolith, these are demonic nightmare spirits capable of possessing people.
If you get a nightmare monster to it’s deletion point you’ll be able to make one of these, staff can also flag you as able to so I’ll do that when the game’s newer and also every now and again to spice things up probably.
Noctoliths are a bit like old-school abominations, you’ll be able to choose up to five legendary powers, but can only use them after you’ve used the blackeyes command which also makes you combatively stronger. If you capture people you’ll be able to drain them, taking up to 10% LF and giving you 500 karma you can use only on that character, and 1000 karma you can use only on your next character. You’ll also be able to claim a Haven, taking over an abandoned building and using it as your base of operations, including setting traps.
Every few days you’ll be able to raise the mist, you can see perfectly in the mist, while nobody can see you if you aren’t in the same room. You’ll be able to sense any PCs in the mist or any who are in a room with a window to the outside/mist even if their curtains are closed. You can stalk those characters, flying through the mist at 3x the speed of a car, if they’re outside you’ll pause directly above them watching them from there, if inside you’ll pause outside the window, if the window is not on the ground floor you’ll hover outside it. When doing this you’ll be able to see through curtains, although only one room deep, and be able to make people see things out in the mist.
You can also hunt people in the mist, which is the same thing but lands in the same room as them and immediately goes nhostile with them.
An exorcism ritual banishes a Noctolith from the person they are possessing and gives some of their taken karma to everyone in the room. If the person isn’t a Noctolith it instead hurts them and costs everyone Life force.
Noctoliths can use a ritual to jump into another host, if they do so the original player gets 1/3rd of their karma gains, if it jumps again they get 1/9th etc, a given spirit can never go back into a body it’s already been in.
Once a week a Noctolith can siege a property, usually residential but could be commercial if it only has a few people in it. This temporarily shifts the property into the nightmare, the people inside cannot leave and all the lights go out and they can’t communicate with the outside world. The spirit stalks the property trying to catch the people inside, with special mechanics for running, hiding, barricading doors etc.
There may be some other stuff I forgot to mention, but I think that covers the main things.
Noctoliths sound interesting and I look forward to seeing them in play. A few questions I had, if you’re taking them…
- Will buildings in the outer woods be subject to reclamation?
- Will MyHaven be backported?
- Will we be allowed to play the direct relatives (siblings/offspring) of the matriarchs/patriarchs with them being animated NPCs?
- Does the H7 storyrunner system being backported mean that your character must be present for storyrunning, rather than an invisible shell?
H7 style real weather tracking and H7 style myHaven.
Sorry I’m blind 😔😔😔
