Maeves Impromptu Yoga Class 250430

In the vibrant and bustling setting of the Spender Arts and Wellness Center at White Oak, an impromptu yoga class led by Maeve unfolds, intertwining lessons of physical flexibility with discussions on human sexuality, historical persecution of witches, and the fluidity of gender roles through history. The dialogue between Maeve, the teacher with a background from a coven rather than a convent, and her students, Ezra and Gabriella, meanders through personal preferences, societal judgments, and a touch of humor on survival tactics of ancient tribes. Maeve, with her lopsided smiles and candid remarks, reveals her nonconformist views and encourages an open-mindedness devoid of the constraints imposed by conventional religious or societal norms. The conversation hints at the complexity of human relationships, the uncharted territories of friendship across different sexual orientations, and the challenge of finding acceptance in a world bound by rigid expectations.

As the session winds down, the casual yet profound exchange diverges into individual reflections and decisions. Ezra, identifying with the historical label of a witch given his own experiences, decides to prioritize his studies over further engagement in the moment, signaling a polite but firm distance from the current conversation. Gabriella, in contrast, exhibits a mix of curiosity and sarcasm as she processes the discussion, ultimately choosing to retreat to the comfort of solitude for further contemplation. Maeve, left in the resultant silence of the gymnasium, hints at the broader scope of learning she intends to impart beyond the physical practice of yoga, suggesting a deeper journey into self-discovery and societal understanding awaiting her students. The story leaves off with the characters parting ways, each embarking on their own path of learning and growth, underscored by the resilience of individuality in the face of historical adversities and modern-day challenges.

In the Gymnasium of the Spender Arts and Wellness Center at White Oak
The resounding echoes of athletic activity reverberate against the high, vaulted ceilings here, underscoring the energetic atmosphere that pulsates through the expansive, well-equipped space. The sleek, modern exercise machines and the polished hardwood floors reflect the soft, diffused lighting that illuminates the various training stations. The rhythmic thud of sneakers against the floor and the distant calls of coaches blend with the determined grunts and breaths of students and athletes.
It is about 55F(12C) degrees.

"Well, lesbians tend to have a natural awkwardness towards men. When Mother Nature made us, she gave most of us an inherent interest in the strapping braves of our tribe but left some of the women out. There isn't a great deal of room for menfolk in that equation." Maeve smiles lopsidedly at Ezra and steps closer, raking her drying hair back with her fingers. "I don't much care what sort of preference you students have. It doesn't seem as if the Abbess would want me in her chapel anyway! There's not a lot of historical love."

"Go back just three hundred years and they would have burned my kind, maybe even on these grounds." Maeve gestures about the gymnasium.

Gabriella hasn't even showered yet, but she listens with curiosity the conversation about lesbians and stuff like that. "So you're not a nun?" she concludes from all Maeve said to Ezra.

Maeve chortles heartily at Gabriella and adds a mild shake of her head. "Not in the least, sweetie. I doubt they'd have me, and I won't have their boring rejection of everything that makes life nice." She tucks a thumb under her bag's shoulderstrap. "I was trained by a coven, and the church-going sort don't think too highly of that."

"Oh," Ezra says to Maeve with a blink of his eyes then says. "Well she should learn to work on her people skills. Not every man wants to bang every woman. Some of us just want to be friends." Ezra blinks his eyes rapidly before adding, "You do know we are both witchs right? Given the 1652 definition."

"You'll just have to learn that not everyone is going to be interested in being your friend" Gabriella tells Ezra with a smile, but then adds "and you didn't need to tell Colton it was you I've stabbed."

"Yes, yes. My point was that where nature builds most of us to have room in our minds for the opposite gender, about one in ten don't fit into that. I bet there was probably some advantage to that, back when we were living in caves and eating sabertooth tigers!" Maeve gestures with both hands in a chatty manner while she speaks. "In case all the hunters and warriors got killed, the tribe was much better off if one or two men had stayed behind to do what people back then considered women's work. And in case the cave got raided by pesky neanderthal neighbors while the menfolk were out and about, the tribe stood a much better chance of surviving if one or two women preferred the kind of life that people back then associated with masculinity, because then they weren't in the cave when everyone in it were killed or carried off."

"I thought he was talking about you," Ezra says with a shrug of his shoulders then makes to leave. "And I don't need to be everyone's friend but there are rules." He lifts his shoulders in a shrug and makes to leave. "Anyway I need to go back to my studies. Thank you for the class, professor, I look forward to working with you in the future. Gabby, maybe we can hang out more later."

Gabriella walks over to reach for and pick up her sneakers, but instead of putting them back on, she starts walking barefoot towards the girls' shower room. "So, gay men do women's work, and only lesbians get to be warriors and shieldmaidens?" Gabriella causticly asks someone. "Sure!", she calls out to Ezra, "don't get too tired with your studies till then!" And as one student goes one way, the other heads the other way, leaving the teacher sadly alone.

"Doctor Rose wants you to learn something more consequential than just faffing about with yoga." Maeve speaks more candidly now, watching Ezra. "When I have formal classes, I'll make sure to schedule them at least a day or two in advance, and if you need more guidance than can be gleaned in a classroom, you can visit me in my cottage."

"I'll see you when I see you!" Maeve flutters her fingers at Gabriella and turns to offer Lenore a grin. "Gabriella almost didn't survive the Ustrasana."
