The year is 1729, the location is Curtea de Arges, a city on the left bank of the Arges river, where it flows through a valley of the Fagaras Mountains.
Once the capital city of Wallachia, it has been loosing its relevance over the time. Its court, once the residence of the Wallachian hospodars, is now occupied with those Romani that follow the Old traditions of power and magic, while the current power control center in town is the Monastary, built during the rule of Neagoe Basarab. There, there new powers of the Orthodox Church control the city, presiding over trials, customs and commerce.
Amongst the power struggle between Magic and Religion, there is also the citizens of this impoverishing city: bakers and traders, cobblers and tailors, life here doesn't favor any of those who don't end up aligning themselves, openly or covertly, with one of the sides of this power struggle.
