Ivys Odd Encounter Sr Jodie 240917
In the cozy, retro ambiance of Rosie's Diner, Ivy experiences a day that veers into the unexpected. As she settles into the rhythm of her new, albeit mundane life in the quaint town of Haven, Ivy finds herself engaging in conversation with a salt-and-pepper-haired man in a business suit. The man, upon receiving Ivy's friendly acknowledgment, approaches her, exuding an air of curiosity mingled with a strange sense of purpose. Their interaction starts off harmlessly, with exchanges about Ivy's recent move to Haven and the disillusionments that have shadowed her journey. However, the dialogue swiftly delves into deeper, more philosophical territories, exploring the notions of purpose, societal collapse, and radical solutions to global crises.
The conversation takes a significant turn when the man subtly introduces the idea of accelerationism to Ivy, suggesting drastic measures to force societal awakening and change. His propositions, though radical, resonate with Ivy's own disenchantment with society and its broken promises. This dialogue uncovers Ivy's vulnerability and her quest for purpose, making her a prime target for the man’s hidden agenda. Revealing his association with The Sapphire Martyrs, an extremist group with apocalyptic visions, he offers Ivy a chance to join their cause, leaving her with a business card adorned with a symbol of a fractured sapphire. While the man departs with an air of anticipation for Ivy's decision, she is left contemplating an offer that promises purpose but at the cost of aligning with a potentially destructive ideology. The encounter at Rosie's Diner not only disrupts the calm of Ivy's day but also plants the seeds of a pivotal choice that could significantly alter her path.

In Rosie's Diner
Filled with nostalgia, this diner is a step into the past - to a time of swing and jive, and one would claim, simpler times. The walls are cream toned, letting the pink and turquoise neon striping along the ceiling give the space more vibrant coloring. Pieces of kitsch and memorabilia are posted here and there, providing character and retro style.
Behind the counter, cooks work the main line, allowing customers to watch as their meals are prepped. A soda fountain and a glass domed freezer is set away from the heat, where the soda jerk creates speciality floats, sundaes, malts and shakes.
Meanwhile, waitresses on roller skates gracefully take orders, their uniforms chock full of bling.
It is morning, about 60F(15C) degrees,
(Your target has been targeted by a recruiter of The Sapphire Martyrs, a melancholic figure who seems to be everywhere your character is. The recruiter seeks to convince your target to join them in their cause, promising them a noble death and the salvation of other worlds. Your character needs to figure out how to get rid of this recruiter, without alerting the rest of the Sapphire Martyrs to their knowledge of them, possibly needing to fake their own death or convince the recruiter that they're already a part of another, rival group.)
It's a rather normal day in haven The weather is mild and the sun, for once is actually shining on the usually rainy town. On such a nice moderate day Ivy has decided to swing by Rosies for whatever reason, maybe just for a coffee and some socializing time.
For now, nothing is unusual though its rather dull and not much is going on inside the establishment. There is the odd patron sitting alone having their own breakfast.
Ivy was rather tired, she had just moved into this strange town and is doing 'the grind' so to speak. Waking up wired, going to work, coming back tired. At least those small pockets of time where she can enjoy a coffee and talking to people.
She does order a coffee, waving over to the patron, she comes from a rather large town but she got used to the practice of greeting or at least acknowledging other patrons, should they want to hold a conversation, meet up, whatever else.
The patron that Ivy waved to is an older man dressed in a business suit. He has salt and pepper hair and he's clean shaven. Upon the wave, he seems to take it as an invite from Ivy and he gets to his feet and chooses to move wherever Ivy has sat down. He gives her a friendly enough smile and an upnod and says, "You have a look about you like you just got off the bus." he says, his voice silky smooth.
Ivy knew the drill, or at least she thought she did. People in this town had an uncanny ability to detect whenever someone was new, or could tell what they were feeling, she thought of it as strange. But nothing that alerted her. "Oh really?" She rolls that 'really' for as long as she can, chuckling afterwards. "I suppose I do, yeah. This town small enough for you to be able to tell that?"
She queried, genuinely curious if she was ever going to get a full answer to that question. "Perhaps all newcomers look like broke wage slaves with no purpose in life, what do I know?" She rolls her eyes, tapping on the counter as she waits for her coffee.
Giving a smile, one that doesn't reach his eyes a salt-and-pepper haired gentleman in a suit seems to agree with Ivy as he nods to her, "That's exactly it, but you, you have a purpose in life do you? Or are you here because you threw a dart at a map?" he takes some time to check her out, not in a sexual manner, more like a farmer ensuring his cattle is healthy.
Ivy chuckles. "I'm not sure how long you have been in this town, but it's been less than a week for me. See, army was supposed to pay for my student debt if I did basic training- turns out they cheated me, didn't pay shit." She shrugs. "Now I'm twenty with no degree or a job, throwing a dart at the map? Nah."
The girl waves her hand dismissively. "The map by now looks like detective's board when they're trying to connect puzzles and pieces... I felt like coming in Haven because I thought I could start getting somewhere in life- well, so far it isn't working out."
With a flicker of interest a salt-and-pepper haired gentleman in a suit listens to all Ivy has to say, she's a lost, skilled individual with no direction and no prospects yet. He sips his tea then tells her, "The world is going to shit. In fact it's going to end before you hit forty." thats a lot to throw at someone obviously, especially a stranger. If the man didn't look so classy and refined, you'd think he was just a crazy guy.
"Don't you agree? With how things are going?" SRJodie ask Ivy thoughtfully eying her face.
Ivy tilts her head from side to side. "I mean, yeah? Climate change is probably going to do us in at one point, but scientists state that the point of no return is a little bit more far away than you think."
She was a conservative, but she recognize the importance of climate, so she didn't think of the guy as crazy - even if he looked like someone of social class. But perhaps he meant something else? If so, the girl wasn't aware - as she was not in the know. "I do agree, but at that point, activists will become full-blown ecoterrorists."
"Might be worth it to accelerate the damage so that people become more aware of how bad its going to be." SRJodie carefully introduces the thought of accelerationism to Ivy. "Would it be right to hurt millions to eventually save everyone else?" the conversation, as far as a coffee shop first meet is quite heavy.
Ivy was surprised to have this kind of conversation in bonafide coffee shop place, it takes her a few moments to come up with an answer. "Well, what do you propose- that we dump toxic waste into the waters, switch to fossil fuel exclusively, I dunno' commit terrorism? That's going to be ridiculed by politicians and be used as a talking point as to how dangerous 'progressive' ideas of preventing climate change are. You know how the rats are- they'll include stricter rules on even some of the basic stuff that people used to do, like protests." Perhaps the worst thing about this is that Ivy wasn't entirely against the idea, she was broken by the very society and it's leaders that promised to lift her up, so perhaps she wasn't in the best mental state to be having this conversation...
...Or, from a certain perspective, she was just the IDEAL target.
Smiling again, but this time with more merit. a salt-and-pepper haired gentleman in a suit seems to like what Ivy is saying and he reaches inside his suit jacket to seek something in one of his pockets, "It's more that the big governments of the world are the problem. What if the only way we survive is if we destroy everything except a few islands of civilization. Would it be worth it?"
He finds what he was looking for, a business card, he keeps it in hand while he awaits Ivy's answer.
Ivy brings a hand to her lips, chuckling. "What, are you going to go up against the entire world? Just you? How do you see that succeeding... Plus, even if you do." She lifts her hand. "What then? If there's going to be a few islands, then everything is going to regress back, we'll go thousands of years backwards due to how modern global economy works, how will we get food, water, what about technology, medicine, clothing? And so on?" Rather than dismissing the idea, once again, she was simply being critical of it - she was listening.
The man hesitates with his business card, but eventually slides it to Ivy. It has no name on it, only a symbol of a fractured, tear-shaped blue sapphire with a phone number on the back. "Well, if you come to see that things are not sustainable and that you want to make a difference. This organization is here."
After that the man finishes his coffee and stands, telling Ivy, "Spend a few weeks getting your bearings before you call. We'll be waiting for you to make the right choice."
Ivy lifts the hard, tilting her head from side to side. "Probably will do like you asked, I'm... Certainly going to need more information, I suppose this org is gonna' have more answers to my questions." She dips her head. "Thank you for the talk, mister."
Tipping his head, the man gives a forced smile then starts to walk out. Leaving Ivy with the business card. Maybe one day she'll ended up associated with The Sapphire Martyrs, believing in their extreme plans. More likely she wont, but who knows when faced with an imminent apocalypse.
