Kathlynns Odd Encounter Sr William 241215
In a quiet, almost deserted bar at the Lodge, Kathlynn finds herself the sole patron, save for a mysterious man who seats himself beside her with a peculiar and unsettling presence. He seems disconnected, his movements awkward and unnatural, focusing intently on a spot outside the window and muttering about having lost someone there. Kathlynn, despite feeling an unnerving chill from the man, attempts to engage, asking about the loss he mentions. His responses are cryptic; he references a daughter he lost but provides no concrete details, his demeanor cold and his gaze unsettling. Unnerved by the eerie atmosphere and the man's insistence on a vague location outside, Kathlynn's curiosity and concern are piqued, leading her to reluctantly agree to help him find whatever he's lost, despite the howls of wolves outside and the brewing storm.
Venturing into the cold and treacherous night, Kathlynn is guided by the man to a secluded spot in the woods, marked by two stone slabs serving as a makeshift monument to someone lost. It's here that the true nature of the man's predicament becomes somewhat clearer - his deep connection to this place hints at a tragic past event, possibly involving his daughter. Kathlynn, moved by the situation, offers a small token in empathy, hoping to provide some form of closure. This act seems to trigger a change; the man collapses, momentarily revealing a spectral presence before awakening confused and panicked, running off into the night. Left alone, Kathlynn hears the chilling sounds of distress followed by wolf howls in the distance, suggesting a grim end for the man. She hastens back to the safety of her dorm, contemplating the surreal and possibly supernatural encounter she's just experienced, with more questions than answers about what truly happened.

At the bar
This well lit area is home to a long, polished bar that stretches from
west to east along the centermost portion of the northern wall. A number of
refrigerators and shelves within have been filled with various drinks and
town memorabilia for display, but the large head of a black bear mounted
higher on the wall attracts more attention. Food for the bar is prepared on
a cast iron cooking surface behind the bar, but well within sight of
patrons. It's so large that several different meals can all be cooked at
the same time.
Starting to the side of the Lodge's entrance to the north, several booths
follow the old hardwood walls and wrap around the pool tables to the east.
Their sequence is only interrupted there by the exit to the courtyard in the
distance.
A small HD flatscreen television hangs in the southwestern corner, open to
sight for all of those at the bar.
It is night, about 28F(-2C) degrees, and the sky is covered by dark grey stormclouds. There is a waning gibbous moon.
Kathlynn says "I havent done an encounter before, and I just started playing today. I don't have any weapons or abilities to speak of, so an RP encounter with a ghost might be preferable. "
Kathlynn says "please choose, i think you have a better handle on how this may play out "
(Your target encounters a ghost who's fixated on some past tragedy from their life, they need to either give the spirit some sense of closure, or send it on it's way through more violent means.

Kathlynn seems to snap awake, even though she was sitting there seemingly awake. Looking around confused for a minute, she sighs... simply happy she isn't somewhere strange.
In the calm of the night, just barely past midnight, one woman sits alone in the bar of the Lodge. Normally there would be more people around. The usual in any kind of town, not only those special individuals that seem to draw attention, but all the crowds and townsfolk one would expect of a town like Haven.
But not tonight, tonight the bar was empty- And even the bartenders seemed to be off doing something else- They were here moments ago, but, where had they left to? Well, nevermind, the Lodge was after all a normally trusted safe space in town. Nothing should go wrong in here, not that Kathlynn knew that of course.
But soon enough, someone enters the establishment- Odd, she didn't hear the doors open or close. She must have been distracted. And the stranger- A tall man with blonde hair, goes to sit right by the redhead, not asking any questions, no greeting, simply tagging along by her. There's something eerie about him, something off, but she probably cannot place her finger on what is it- He's awfully silent, and it almost seems like this person is not used to piloting their own body, making odd movements that are way too clunky or set them off balance every so often.
Kathlynn sips her glass of water as she sits at the counter. Glancing over at the newcomer, she can feel the hair on the back of her neck as he sits down too.
The man turns to face Kathlynn, and his eyes- They are odd. They seem like they normally are blue, but they're almost glazed over, it's faint, maybe one hue softer, almost more whiteish than blue, both of them set on the redhead. His expression is vacant, like he wasn't fully there, there was definitely something off with him.
"It was here- I lost her" Is the first noise coming from the man, his voice also seems weird- There's no normal rise and falling of words, there's no intonation, it is a monotone string of sound. Then his arm lifts towards a window, pointing a finger out, too stiff, like a puppet "She was there-" There's only trees outside in that direction "And then I lost her"
Kathlynn shivers, "Um... you lost her?" She turns and glances outside the bar, following his finger. "Was she your wife? Did something happen to her?" She turns to face him, her hands shaking nervously for little reason.
Kathlynn eyes widen at the wolf howl. "What the hell? I thought this was a town... not the wilderness"
"My daughter" The man replies, again, in a monotone voice. But he doesn't even seem to address her worries about the howls. No, instead he continues as if he hadn't even heard it "My daughter- I lost her there- I can't remember anything else"
His eyes remain on Kathlynn, they're unnatural, and standing too close to him feels almost... Cold? But the man was heavily clothed. Wearing a heavy coat to protect him from the harsh temperature outside, beanie and gloves included, yet his pressence felt even more worrying than the literal hail happening outside
Kathlynn shivers again as he stares at me with those cold eyes, but not seemingly dangerous. "I...i'm sorry to hear about your daughter. I lost my sister when I was little. It...its not the same as losing your child... I'm sure... though" her voice trails off. "It is seriously cold in here tonight... I wish they would turn up the heat." She turns to him. "Is it the anniversary of her death? Do you need to talk about it?" She tries to put her warm hand on his icy arm in comfort.
Upon contact, the cold seems even more unpleasant, it was almost akin to touching ice for a couple seconds than proper, and having that light sting on one's fingers. But the man doesn't even look at her hand, he isn't registering even her touch by the looks of it, nor does he show any recognition of what she's saying. An expression frozen in neutrality, there's no pain there, no anger, not even sorrow at what the redhead is sharing.
"I lost her there-" He repeats once more, almost like the woman hadn't been listening at all. He doesn't answer any of her question, he instead keeps on insisting- He was either dumb, or something was going on with his head. The reality, probably something way more paranormal than Kathlynn would be expecting at first "She was there-" Another point towards the trees outside the Lodge, but no matter how hard one tries to look, there's just trees there- The start of the forest, right by the road
Kathlynn looks at him nervously as he ignores her. Standing up, she backs away slightly. "Um... out there? In the trees? With the wolf?" Shaking her hand to get back some feeling, she wishes again she hadn't lost her cell phone earlier today.
Turning around slowly, the man replies "I lost her there" It really wasn't getting through to him. Still sat by the counter, the fact that not even the servers or workers of the establishment had returned, it was just her and this mysterious figure in here. No one to help. Though the door was still open, and she could see from her position the hailing outside, and the road right in front of her, with Rosie's just across the street, another local diner.
His finger still pointed at the same spot. Even as he stands up from the turning chair, and takes a step closer towards Kathlynn, his finger seems to track the spot, frozen in the same direction, like his whole body was moving around it rather than the other way around. Unnatural, like a flesh puppet of sorts.
Kathlynn gulps nervously, her mind starting to pick up hints that she doesn't really want to believe... the wolf outside still making her nervous. "D...do you need my help to find her?" Hoping against hope he says no or doesn't respond.
"Find her" The man replies. One would expect to be hope in his voice, but there is not- It's still glacial. But her words earn another step in the direction of Kathlynn. Of course, she still had a choice in the matter. He seemed to walk slow, clunky, almost tripping every couple feet- She could probably run away from this mysterious man, or she could follow through and help her find said daughter. Though is it a good idea venturing into the forest when you are hearing wolf howls? And maybe she hadn't noticed, but Haven was a special town- The kind in which you shouldn't venture too far away from town. Or even step foot on the streets during certain times, times like when the full moon seems to claim the night, just like today
Kathlynn open face lets the fear and guilt fight for dominance. The guilt of how this poor... man? is feeling, what he suffered is starting to make her consider. "Oh god... I can't be this stupid... its hailing out there for..." She stares out at the window where he is pointing. "What if it was me? Would I want..." Her face falls as she realizes she is about to be really fucking stupid.
Kathlynn takes a few hesitant steps outside, looking back to the man... the spirit? Looking at the door as I open it...the sheer blast of cold washing over me, making me huddle in my coat.
Opening the door is indeed quite the temperature contrast, the streets being as low as twenty six Fahrenheit, minus three Celsius for europeans. The wind is harsh, hitting the exposed skin almost like tiny razors that will erode over time, and on top of that there's tiny balls of ice -hail- raining upon the whole town, clacking against the ground and making a concussive noise everywhere you go.
And then the man approaches from behind, and it is even worse, colder- Like there was an aura to him, something that wasn't meant to be there, colder than anything living should be. Arm pointing towards the west, towards the woods that stretched just by the Lodge.
But probably to further have her dread any option whatsoever, another howl paints the night. Reminding of the full white moon claiming the sky- Coming from the north, and quickly followed by another, this one from the east, far louder than they would be in most town were she ever to have heard one in the past. A third howl coming from the east, they almost looked like they were communicating
Kathlynn freezes. "Oh god, what the hell am I doing?" she berates herself. Feeling drawn to help him... even as the wolves howl their hellos...feeling more and more trapped... and maybe even an evening meal. Her feet start her walking down the path towards the forest, trying to take shelter from the hail... and maybe, just maybe get out of this before I get eaten by wolves. She walks west, jumping at shadows as she walks... looking almost like a little rabbit out for a midnight stroll.
The howls of the wolves seem to grow louder as she approaches the woods, she wasn't too far from the street, maybe a couple tenths of feet, but the darkness of the trees was already starting to set in, it was past midnight after all. And while she found shelter from the falling rocks of ice within the tall covers of leaves, the moist atmosphere here made the air even colder, even worse, it was clinging to her exposed flesh and even mildly drenching her clothes.
At least, there didn't seem to be anything around here, no wolves to be seen, thankfully for her. Unbeknown to Kathlynn, the wolves that came out during the full moon were particularly tame, or even pleasant to see, some of them as big as some cows or horses. But there was none of that now. Only the sounds that alerted of their closeness.
And right from behind her, just to give her another scare, maybe a mini heart attack- An arm shows from right beside her face, poking over her shoulder and standing mere inches from her face, pointing forward. It was the mysterious man from before. The one she had been paying attention to this whole time
Kathlynn jumps as his arm appears there... gasping as i huddle into my coat. Sparing him a glance as she shivers in the frozen night she mutters, "I just hope this helps you... and you don't end up doing this to some other poor sucker." Shuffling through the night, her fingers frozen to the bone she follows the pointing.
Following the pointed finger for a couple more minutes, eventually, Kathlynn arrives at, well, whatever was being pointed at- In the middle of the forest, between the threes, two little stone slabs, mildly eroded, they had been there for a while- They didn't even have any flowers or pictures around, but it was almost clear what they were - Clearly not graves, but a little monument, in memoriam. But the man simply seems to freeze before it "I lost her..."
Kathlynn approaches the makeshift monument... kneeling down on the cold wet ground. Looking upwards to him, she says "You poor man... you couldn't even have a grave for her? She looks around her pockets, trying to find something meagre to put there for him... finally settling on a small hair scrunchy. "I'm sorry you were lost... perhaps he can help you find your way home..." she says as she places the hair scrunchy on the monument. Taking a moment to pray? Meditate? Wish her and... possibly him safe passage to wherever the world will take us next."
Then the man seems to simply fall down to the ground- Knocked out. Like he had lost all vitality for a moment. The body cold rather than warm, and, where it once stood, for a couple seconds at least- She seems to be able to see some specter. A ghost of some kind. It is a woman, seemingly in her fifties, but not much can be told about her, her shape seems to vary from moment to moment, and all color is replaced with a light blueish hue, almost transparent- Though that is for short, in a matter of seconds.
Then Kathlynn is no longer able to see her- The eyes of the mundane people weren't made to see those kinds of things, and maybe, just maybe she had been able to for whatever inhabiting happened with the man.
The man which seems to remain out cold for a couple more seconds, before slowly starting to stir. His head bleeding a little bit, probably having hit it on the way down. A grown of a deep voice coming from his mouth, this time with feeling- Before his expression is overtaken with surprise and fear "What- Where am I?! What have you done to me?!" He accuses Kathlynn, but there's not much time to answer, as moments later, the man is running away from her, sadly, in the wrong direction, seemingly getting away from the town rather than closer to it
Kathlynn gasps as i realize that maybe he was possessed by her... helping a mom... not a dad find her daughter. Looking where the man ran, still kneeling in the cold earth, she stops and takes a moment to let the sorrow wash over her. Maybe she helped, maybe she didn't. She would likely never know for sure.
One thing that Kathlynn was probably able to infer from this whole situation is that she likely wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. Because just a minute later, from the direction the now more aware man had run towards, loud screams of pains were heard, accompanied by two howls that give a pretty good idea of what's happening over there
Kathlynn eyes widen as she runs back to her dorm room at Phi Beta.
Venturing into the cold and treacherous night, Kathlynn is guided by the man to a secluded spot in the woods, marked by two stone slabs serving as a makeshift monument to someone lost.
