Madelines Odd Encounter Sr Dahlia 250115
Madeline and Benjamin's seemingly normal dinner date at Rosie's Diner, a retro-themed eatery, takes an unexpected turn when a woman bursts in, panicking and shouting about a monster. As they try to calm and help the woman, the diner's atmosphere shifts from nostalgia to suspense. Benjamin attempts to offer assistance while Madeline contacts the sheriff's department, showcasing her nursing skills by checking the woman for injuries. Despite initial skepticism regarding the woman's claims, the seriousness of the situation becomes apparent when exterior noises thud against the diner, suggesting the presence of something large and possibly dangerous outside.
The situation escalates as Haven PD arrives to manage the perceived threat, revealing that the monster was, in fact, the woman's boyfriend, somehow transformed. This twist adds a layer of supernatural intrigue to the encounter. Madeline and Benjamin, along with the other patrons, are ushered to safety as the police and possibly other emergency responders take charge, emphasizing the close-knit yet enigmatic community of Haven’s capability to handle such bizarre events. The diner manager's offer of discounts to the shaken customers serves as a small consolation for their disrupted evening, illustrating the town's resilience in the face of odd and unsettling occurrences. The incident leaves Madeline and Benjamin closer, their bond strengthened by facing the unknown together.

In Rosie's Diner
Filled with nostalgia, this diner is a step into the past - to a time of swing and jive, and one would claim, simpler times. The walls are cream toned, letting the pink and turquoise neon striping along the ceiling give the space more vibrant coloring. Pieces of kitsch and memorabilia are posted here and there, providing character and retro style.
Behind the counter, cooks work the main line, allowing customers to watch as their meals are prepped. A soda fountain and a glass domed freezer is set away from the heat, where the soda jerk creates speciality floats, sundaes, malts and shakes.
Meanwhile, waitresses on roller skates gracefully take orders, their uniforms chock full of bling.
It is night, about -5F(-20C) degrees, and there are a few dark grey stormclouds in the sky. Ankle high mist flows through the area. There is a waning gibbous moon.
(Someone in Haven has found out about the supernatural and is freaking out about it. They're at risk of exposing the secret, hurting themselves, or hurting others. Your target and their allies are tasked with containing the situation.
)
Madeline was at dinner with Benjamin.
Benjamin bamfs in!
Madeline looks up to the roller-waitress, "Could I get the All-American with a side of fries, and a coke?" She puts in her order, then looking back to Benjamin, awaiting his order.
Benjamin taps the menu and begins a somewhat lengthy order, "Vanilla float, ice tea, johnn B gouda burger, and fried pickles." and then appends, "Please." with a smile and a look to Madeline
Madeline clacks her boots together under the table, "It's nice to finally get out, you know, on a real date?" She muses, the stress of having been cooped up so long finally melting away from her.
Benjamin leans back sitting up straight as he flufs his coat a bit opening it up now that they're indoors. "It is although I would say the Trove kind of counted as a date... a meet cute?" he offers with a smile. "Are you a regular here?"
The full moon may have passed but the wolf population of Haven still seems restless. The mist is high, the weather is cold, but Rosie's is well-lit, warm, and welcoming. There's several patrons scattered, enjoying their shakes, burgers, and fries. A couple college kids are trying to figure out the jukebox . The servers roller skate about with ease and friendly conversation.
"Of course, hun, and for you?" She asks, noting down Madeline's order and then nod-nodding along to take Benjamin's down. "Great choice! I'll be right back with your drinks." She skates off to put in the ticket.
It really is shaping up to be a lovely evening, but it wouldn't be Haven if a wrench wasn't thrown into it.
The door chimes over loudly as the front doors burst open, "Monster! Monster! Monster!" A woman shouts as she rushes in, nearly knocking over a waiter with a tray of food in the process that sends the tray clattering to the floor as the woman falls in the other direction, tripping over herself in the stumble, scrambling further, closer to where Madeline and Benjamin are, by coincidence.
Madeline shrugs, "I eat here from time to time, sure. There's a few restaurants on the north end of town too." She begins to say, until she is interrupted by the hysterical woman, shouting and tripping. She looks briefly to Benjamin, concern in her eyes.
As the woman comes in Benjamin looks over but by the time she's scrambling towards their table Benjamin is getting up and moving to help that poor knocked over waiter who is on rollerskates! "Hey are you okay man?" he asks offering a hand to them.
The diner's activities had come to a screeching halt with this interruption, but slowly start to trickle back to normal with just a few people still eyeing the woman with some wariness, or others dismissing her as being high on something. She looks to Madeline in her wildly looking about, grabbing on to the table in an effort to bring herself up to her feet. "I saw it! It-it--" Tears start to well up in her eyes.
"The waiter gets up to his feet slowly with Benjamin's help. "Ugh, yeah I'm alright. Thanks." He tries to brush himself off a little, already shouting out for a reorder for the table as another server comes over to try and help pick up the ruined food order. "
Madeline kneels down to the fallen woman, placing her hands on her shoulders, "What? What did you see?" She asks, knowing it could just be the raving delusions of a madwoman, but she also knows that in this town, if someone shouts monster, they may not be far off the mark.
After helping up the waiters Benjamin looks around at all the people giving the frantic woman the look even as he walks back over to her and Madeline. "Hey lets not get to shouty, it might attract whatever it is." he suggests in a trying to be soothing kind of voice, his hand trying to gently rest against the womans back. "Right?"
The woman draws in a few shallow breaths as Madeline puts her hands on her shoulders, trying to calm herself some. There's a furtive look to the nearby window and then back to Madeline. "It-" She starts to say, voice cracking, but Benjamin's words bring a slow nod as she lower her voice further. "It ate my boyfriend. O-or something. I-he was there and then he was gone! And then..." She buries her hands in her face a moment before her head snaps up again, suddenly looking -intense- "I have to save him!"
"It's not safe to go out there... stay here, we'll call the Sheriff." Madeline makes an earnest attempt to reassure her. She looks to Benjamin "I'll call them, they'll know what to do." She reaches into her purse, dialing the number for the sheriff's department.
Benjamin looks towards the door and seems to be checking if anyone is leaving given the spectacle or their meals just being done. While he's peering he says in a soft spoken voice, "Yeah, we should definitely call. What does your boyfriend look like? So we can look for him." he asks still watching the door.
Some people are in the process of heading out, a few are being nosy but also aren't close enough to really hear anything as of right now. "W-will they believe me?" She asks about the Sheriff's Department. "No, you're right. Yes! We have to tell them! People need to know it isn't safe!" She is, to her credit, trying to keep her voice down. What does her boyfriend look like though? The woman looks to Benjamin, "U-uh. Brown hair. short brown hair. Uhh blue eyes? Gosh the prettiest blue eyes...and I mean. Uhm. Maybe your height?" Unfortunately this also describes a decent percentage of the men in Haven in general.
Madeline is on the phone with the Sheriff's Department, having dialed an extension she was given. "Yeah, We've umm... a woman just stumbled into Rosie's... Uh huh... yeah, I think so." She goes back and forth with the dispatch. "Let me check..." Putting her nursing skills to work, she quickly checks the woman for bite marks anywhere, neck, limbs, trying to determine if there are any, and if so, to what severity.
A description is a description and so Benjamin gives Madeline's shoulder a touch. "I'm just going to check the street and make sure it's okay for people leaving." he says in a hushed but anxious voice and then to the worrying woman, 'And see if I can find your boyfriend." and with that grabs the most powerful weapon known to the unprepared, the butter knife and makes for the door looking for either a monster or a pretty blue eyed guy... or a pretty blue eyed monster?"
There doesn't seem to be any bite marks on the woman, or claw marks. Maybe a few minor scratches on her hands, possibly from falling on the ground and getting back up. She nods readily to Benjamin, turning her attention back to Madeline as the nurse talks on the phone. "Tell them it was huge. It was the size of a bear!" She tries to tell the phone more than she tell Madeline.
As Benjamin ventures outside, it's still relatively misty. The streets are quiet, save of a howl or two periodically held in the distance. The general area of Hart Avenue is decently lit in normal conditions but the mist still makes it hard to see. There's a few looming shadows to be hand out looking in either direction, but it's impossible to know for sure what or who they might be without getting closer.
nods quickly to Benjamin, with a look that seems to say 'be careful', "No... nothing like that, just some abrasions on her hands. Falling I think." As the hysterical woman is heard over the phone, Madeline nods reflexively to what she hears and then hangs up. "Ok... it's going to be ok, they're on their way, just stay here." She looks to the door, unable to see anything clear through the mist windows. She gets up, making for the door to inform Benjamin and get him back inside.
Lingering near the door Benjamin looks at the mists and the shapes in it. There's a glance over his shoulder and then somewhat naively he raises his voice and calls, "Hey... Hey anyone hurt out here? Trip... Fall?" and he does move just a little bit further into the mists seeming all but ready to retreat back to Rosie's given any excuse.
The woman nods to Madeline taking in a few deep breaths. "R-right. Okay. I'll stay here." She looks around the diner for something but maybe doesn't immediate find it. Instead she focuses on Madeline again. "Have you seen it?" She asks in that conspiratorial whisper. "The monster?" She starts to look upset again. "I just know it has him. They need to hurry. It might be too late!"
There's a sound in response to Benjamin's call. It's not quite the howls that they've been hearing the last few days. It's more like a yowl. Something cat-like. One of the shadows start moving closer, looming and large. It's getting closer to Rosie's but Benjamin has a moment to decide if he wants to stay out here or if he wants to dart back inside.
Hearing the yowl, Madeline reaches out to grab Benjamin by his jacket, yanking him back into the diner with all her strength. "We need to stay inside, the deputies are on their way." She tells him, her expression protective but nervous. She waves over the woman to join her in the center of the diner, trying to stay as far from the windows as possible.
Benjamin test
Benjamin is yoinked back but really, deep down, the college aged guy was already turning to run. It is by the grace of a concerned Madeline he may be able to preserve some semblance of deniability some let me at em. He does slam the door shut and inform the wait staff, "Yeah there's like a wild cat or dog out there. I wouldn't go outside." and then he's away from the windows and adding, "I think the sherrif or animal control is on its way!"
The woman looks nervous again herself when she hears the yowl. She doesn't hesitate in following Madeline's encouragement to the center of the diner. The rest of the people still within the diner stir some at the talk of a wild animal and the manager on duty encourages everyone to move to the counter area or the center also like Madeline and Benjamin have already done while they moves to lock the door until the police arrive
It's a tense few minutes. Then there's a -THUNK- at the door. The locked doors wobble a little. Another few moments pass and there's one more -THUNK- while the flashing lights of a Haven patrol car can be seen through the windows. Then there's the sound of possibly some kind of taser gun being fired. Another yowl but this time it almost sounds more human. There's indistinguishable chatter and shuffling before a voice raises through as they try to open the door. "Haven PD! We have the situation under control!"
Madeline breathes a sigh of relief at the flashing lights of the patrol car. She leans her head on Benjamin's shoulder, wrapping an arm around his waist. "I guess they're still out there... but it looks like we can actually get out of here in one piece."
Benjamin eyes the door during the thunking but it holds and the lights show up and there is a notable sigh of relief... Had he been holding Madeline's forearm the whole time? His grip loosens and there may be some redness left from how tense he actually was. "Yeah it's probably safe." he says and looks at the woman whose boyfriend is still missing, "You should let them know the description and name so they can see if he's nearby."
The woman has been cowering some behind Madeline and Benjamin since the thunking started. As the manager goes to unlock the door, the woman nods to the pair. "Y-yeah. I will I-" She stops talking abruptly.
As the doors opened up and one of the officers started to step in, the trio could catch a glimpse of a naked man about the woman's age, unconscious, and being placed on to a stretcher. It was somewhat difficult to make out all the details but something about him must be familiar because she suddenly pushes past Madline and Benjamin shouting out, "Aiden! Aiden!" She tries to rush past the officer but he's quick to catch her in his grasp. "Ma'am, calm down. Come with me. Let me ask you a few questions." There's a brief exchange with the restaurant manager as the woman struggles just a bit against the officer until they're both retreating out into the night, the woman starting to try and explain that was her boyfriend who must have gotten away from the monster!
The manager looks to the patrons with an apologetic look. "The police have it from here, I undertand this was stressful! And I'm so sorry. You're free to leave now if you'd like once you settle your bills and we'll be offering discounts all around for the inconvenience of the evening."
