Maras Odd Encounter Sr Viktorin 240828
In an extraordinary clash at the Westhaven pool, Mara, a shapeshifting wolf-woman, finds herself in the terrifying shadows of a gargantuan whale-like creature, an aberration that defies the laws of nature with its emerald and lavender hues, and impossible airborne abilities. Initially entangled in a playful, if slightly menacing chase with a willowy girl, Mara's attention is violently hijacked by the sudden appearance of this celestial whale, which dives towards her with a menacing speed, its maw wide open in a spectacle that promises oblivion. Despite the creature's intimidating approach and Mara's brief contemplation of her fate, the whale's attack misses by mere inches, sending waves through the pool and thrusting Mara into a desperate bid for survival as she leaps towards the safety of the surrounding fencing, questioning the origin of this fantastical beast.
The pursuit intensifies as the whale, unrelenting and seemingly driven by an insatiable hunger, tears through the chain-link fence and the environment in a clumsy, destructive chase after Mara, who dashes for the sanctuary of a nearby building. Despite its daunting size and the apparent advantage in speed, the creature's assault on the structure is thwarted, sparing Mara from being devoured. Inside, she grapples with a mix of defiance and pity for the beast, whose sufferings from dehydration become apparent. The final moments of the standoff see the whale's attempt to breach the building foiled, its body eventually succumbing to an unearthly combustion that leaves behind nothing but ash and dust. In the aftermath, Mara, witnessing the surreal demise of her pursuer, contemplates the ordeal's mystery before reverting to her human form, eager to recover from the harrowing experience with clothes and a strong drink, her freedom from the eldritch whale secured.

At the pool
Chain-link fencing boxes in the public pool, making entrance from any
side but the gated front impossible without a lot of effort in climbing.
Concrete spreads out underfoot and follows the mostly rectangular pool, wet
patches making the NO RUNNING signs periodically set up around the pool's
edge a worthwhile advisory. Stepped metal benches have been set up several
feet back from the pool's edge for casual sitting, though there's sparse
clusters of poolside tables and lounge chairs for things like sunbathing and
shade. A high diving board has been set up on the deep end of the pool,
casting a shifting shadow into the blue water.
It is afternoon, about 83F(28C) degrees,
(Your target is abducted by a sea creature that's somehow crossed over into our world, it is up to them to survive for long enough that their allies can come help.

Mara(wolf), in the guise of a large, sable-furred wolf, was playing with her...friend...or food, alongside the edge of the Westhaven pool. She had just pounced a willowy girl, and was in the process of delivering a very threatening set of teeth - with or without the actual idea of biting into the young woman. The willowy girl, greased in an excess of sunscreen, has managed to writhe free and make a narrow escape - while Mara(wolf) was distracted with ...
A whale. Sadly. Or the visage of a whale? From this point, it's quite... strange that this giant flying beast is now flapping its fins vigorously above the wolf-woman, but, sadly, it also is quite true and indisputable that this larger than life creature now exists. And looms above Mara(wolf). Hues of emerald and lavender coat this strange beast's blubbery flesh, and it most certainly can be described as obese, making the mechanics of its flight completely at odds with science and physics. It's relatively slow-moving as well. At least for the moment. It's positioning? It's on it's side, with one orange eye looming over the canine, slowly blinking, yet focused entirely on her. 'OAAAoOoooAH' it cries, in the fashion of any whale that could probably be found somewhere in Earth's oceans. 'OOOaaaaaoooooaaah!' it cries again. And again. And for the foreseeable future, again.
The wolf bows, the kind of bow that indicates she either wants to play or bolt for her life. She takes a final toothy swipe at her ... prey, with a snout, but the willowy girl is gone. Looking up at the whale-beast, Mara(wolf) offers a tentative -woof-. It is the kind of sound a dog might make when they aren't sure if they want to bark or run, just a single, unsure bark. Mara(wolf)'s green eyes watch the thing warily as she decides which direction she might want to run.
This eldritch abomination of a more corpulent variety flaps its fins a little. And then dives, faster than what its size would perhaps allot it in terms of speed. Maw agape, filled with... fibers. It seems perhaps this aquatic monstrosity is similar to a blue whale? Perhaps a bit of salvation in terms of how deadly this creature probably is, but, nonetheless, it appears that Mara(wolf) may be about to perform a live-reenactment of Jonah and the whale. And so, the lavender and emerald hued creature dives, dives, down and down, maw agape, veering directly at the dog-like creature with the speed of a sports car testing its limits on a highway. "OOAAAAH!" it cries, a uvala (impossible for whales to have, scientifically), flinging about in the back of its mouth, slamming around with utter force at the strength of it's whale-like cries. It doesn't seem too concerned with the wolf bows, nor the barks, merely echoing its own response in kind.
Mara(wolf), apparently resigned to her fate, just braces for impact and closes her green eyes. Uncertainty and doubt fill her mind, and she wonders whether it'd be best to be a naked woman in a whale, or a naked wolf in a whale. How she has any time to contemplate this is anyone's guess. Mara(wolf) sprawls on the floor with the posturing of a toddler, plastering herself down as flat as she can get, vehemently denying being picked up in any form or fashion. A whimper escapes her as she blinks along to the alarming report from inside the other large beast.
The whale misses by just inches, smashing its lips into the ground, right beside Mara(wolf). Due to its large size, the behemoth now has the top of its maw pressed against the wolf, desperately flapping its fins in what may be anger or excitement. Such force from those flapping fins at this distance start creating waves in the pool, which froths and sloshes. Mara(wolf) has, perhaps, a scant few seconds to figure out what to do next, as with this miss, the whale is busying itself with readjustment, slowly twisting and trying to wedge its mouth open larger. Possibly to try to scoop up the much smaller critter into its mouth.
Mara(wolf) relies on the springiness of sinewed, curled canine legs and takes an evasive leap to the side as the whale-entity blubbers around on the gunite and the chlorinated water of the trailer park pool. She clatters against the chain link fence and prepares to clear it with another lip. A curious look is shot over her shoulder, scanning the hideous thing as much she can to try to glean some manner of insight. A low growl rumbles in her throat, and she tries to jump the fence ...
(another leap) Mara(wolf) surely meant.
From where it came from, Mara(wolf) cannot discern properly. The sky would be a basic answer, but, if thought were provided, one could speculate that it was lurking high above the clouds. Like a giant stork of some sort, preparing to catch prey. Whatever the case, as of to the nature of the beast, perhaps it more closely resembles the abominations and chimera lurking from some of the other realms... and perhaps this line of thought could be used to describe where the creature came from? Beyond that, the wolf wouldn't know, not without more research or logical reflection. And now may not be the time, as one of those amber eyes, zoom over to lock upon the poor woman-wolf. Flapping, it rights itself. Flapping it adjusts itself, clumsily, to spearhead its direction towards the wolf. About the size of several school-buses bundled together like a gathering of twigs, its not able to properly use both eyes to peer at the perceived prey before it. That rampant fin resting atop its head is saggy, and the skin upon the creature dries slowly in the sun, water dripping off of it. An inkling of a thought may erupt from Mara(wolf)'s mind as she takes in the beast. That fence may not exactly be much of a barrier between her and it.
Eying the facilities building in the tall grass beyond the fence, Mara(wolf) makes a leap. Damned if she just wanted to have a look at the grotesque, abyssal thing. She musters her strength and leaps the chain link, moving for an all-out sprint toward the (perhaps)more secure building. She can't imagine where else she'd run. Panting, the feet drive into the terrain below her. She emits a self-pitying whimper as her tongue lolls out.
The purple and green whale is suddenly after her, slamming forth like a torpedo just fired. The chain-link fence is thrown into the air. Any small trees between the beast and Mara(wolf), and Mara(wolf) to the building are suddenly and swiftly uprooted, either flung away or merely buckling and tearing apart, positioned into the ground. Almost comically, the fins flap away, as if this somehow allowed it flight in the first place. Still though its skin dries out. Probably painfully so. And water erupts from its blow hole as it attempts to breathe. With the case of this abomination, it appears able to run faster than the wolf, though, it's far clumsier and nearly veers off-course as she reaches the building. Thankfully Sanctuary prevents the beast from blasting apart the building, though it certainly shudders from the inevitable slamming it has been subjected to as this near-miss ends in consequence.
The abomination 'flies' faster. It does not run, it is still a whale.
From inside the threshold, Mara(wolf) peers out at the beast-out-of-water. Unsure what to do, she pads back and forth, trying her best to get a new assessment of her situation. Reflexively, she issues forth another sharp -woof-, as though probing the whale itself. A pointed-eared head pokes into the doorway to have a glance.
Strangely, the whale itself doesn't appear to react too much to the 'woof' that Mara(wolf) issues forth. It's mostly concerned in its abject confusion to the nature of the building. Which, it appears, is now considered as 'food' for the corpulent beast as it desperately tries to bite off (and fail) chunks of the building. Sanctuary seems all that keeps this flimsy shield in front of Mara(wolf). Eventually, giving up on that, the aquatic mammal sinks and lowers itself on the ground, flapping away uncomfortably at the grass below it. A tongue, pink, fleshy, fat, and perhaps a little too long for the beast, lolls out to try and squirm its way into the threshold. It can't do much like this, but pained moans continue to rumble from it as it appears, the skin is indeed drying up, and it cannot exist like this for too long.
Watching the aberration and its ridiculous tongue writhe in the summer sun, Mara(wolf) affects a shiver, shaking her fur as though to cleanse herself of this thing. As the tongue snakes closer, the haunches of the wolf rise, and she lowers her head, growling. She imagines there's nothing keeping the tongue, the ... appendage of the whale from coming inside with her. Teeth bared, she puffs up to try to intimidate her aggressor, ready to bite whatever gets close.
The whale does not care for Mara(wolf)'s growls. To it, she's probably considered a small bit of prey, even with those sharp tiny teeth. Not that it could really see her from it's positioning anyhow. Luckily for the wolf-woman (and unluckily for the whale) its reach merely stops halfway into the threshold. It doesn't stop the whale from ramming its face into the entry point, decidedly trying to get to its food-source. But, it's ineffective at most, only gaining an inch here and there for its tongue. Still, it flaps its little flippers. And still its skin dries. But now, it cracks a little. Fizzles. Hisses.
Mara(wolf) inclines her head, actually feeling a bit of pity for the creature that's roasting itself on dry land in search of a meal. Still in defensive posturing, Mara(wolf) backs up, and up, and up, until she's met with whatever stationary object keeps her from backing up anymore. She thinks about howling to her...but thinks better of it. There's nobody out there listening for her, anyways. She's resigned to holing up in her temporary safe space and watching to see if her fate, or the other-thing's fate is sealed.
In time, and in an almost whimsical fashion, Mara(wolf) witnesses the eruption of the corpulent beast. Or rather, it bursts into a violent flame. It's rather fast in the way that the sizzling flesh pops and bubbles, before even that turns to ash. And that, to dust, until the giant creature is nothing at all. None of it was natural, none of it smelled... 'right' to the wolf. Mara(wolf), back to the wall, rather literally, watches as salvation comes to her in time. Time and perhaps a mystery of how this being came to be, where it came from, and why it had randomly selected her as a target for what one could imagine to be 'food'.
Salvation and a mystery, rather.
At this, Mara(wolf) winces, bares her teeth, and ultimately decides to turn her face away from the spectral flames. Mara(wolf) reflexively shakes her fur while blowing her nostrils clean in an animalistic 'sneeze'.

Freedom is Mara(wolf)'s, at least from the whale. And at least for the time being. As she sneezes, dust shifts, all that's really left of the creature. Or perhaps that dust existed in the first place. Regardless, there is now freedom and the wolf has narrowly avoided being kidnapped from the almost eldritch abomination.
Mara(wolf) pads out of the poolhouse, bits of fur and bloodied tissue falling from her body as she assumes her human form - she's back to hunt for clothes and strong drink!
