Sams Odd Encounter Sr Selina 250110

In a night filled with danger and mystical uncertainty, a group of eclectic characters finds themselves in Haven, amidst a crisis caused by falling meteor-like rocks, miraculously sparing the town's infrastructure but injuring many. This anomaly traces back to a series of foci placed around town by the enigmatic Selina, intended to channel the destructive energies of Gonthorian, an entity partially consumed by Selina herself. The team, comprising Sam, Elias, Juniper, and Victoria, converges in a hidden shrine to devise a plan. Sam, guided by the dark motivations tied to a slaying circle and an eerie ritual involving his own blood, seeks to neutralize the foci and thereby dissipate the hazardous spell. Meanwhile, Elias proposes contacting Selina to aid in their quest, an attempt quickly thwarted by the realization that Selina has vanished, leaving only her spell's foci scattered across town as their lead.

As the plan unfolds, the group decides to split up, aiming to locate and possibly utilize the foci to quicken the spell’s dissipation process. Elias, embodying the role of a gyrfalcon, takes to the skies, targeting a focus situated atop the Elm street apartments. The symbolic mess of a focus, once nudged by Elias, disintegrates, triggering a chain reaction that dissolves all remaining foci and gradually weakens the spell. This surprisingly simple resolution unfolds as Juniper offers aerial support, scouting the terrain without directly interfering. Despite the initial frustration vented by Sam over the abrupt conclusion, the group's effort marks the end of Gonthorian's lingering threat. The mysterious ease with which the spell unravels suggests Selina's cryptic intentions might have included an effortless path to the spell's neutralization, possibly to prevent Gonthorian's resurgence through her. In the end, even though their paths diverged, each member played a crucial role in restoring a semblance of peace to Haven, leaving them to ponder Selina's motives and the true extent of their victory.

In a hidden shrine
The walls, ceiling and floor of this room have been pained a deep obsidian, the only light in the room coming from dimmed spots in the four corners.
Around the bottom of the wall, a double line of green is drawn, like a band of jade.
On the western wall, a large mural of a snake, devouring it's own tail is drawn.

It is night, about -3F(-19C) degrees, and there are a few dark grey stormclouds in the sky. There is a waxing gibbous moon.

Nodding to Elias, Victoria and Juniper Sam lifts that charred ring, on his left index finger, aloft. "All right, Stormcaller, I'm following your lead here."

It was a cold and cloudy night in Haven. Except for the occasional ball of super-heated rock falling from the sky and somehow, miraculous not causing major property damage or even causing more than kitchen fires in the process. Though many have been injured in the process, most of Haven's infrastructure remains unscathed. And it is precisely those injuries, caused by those falling rocks, that leads to the group being gathered here today, to see an end to the magic responsible for those meteors and return the relative peacefulness back to Haven. Of course, everyone has a different idea of the best way to handle such situations, so...

"Well, I am not convinced we want to remove the foci if you want to do your plan, because losing control of the power is exactly the opposite of what you want right? We just need to find Selina and start the process. I am sure she would be glad it is out of you and I will be glad the remainder of it is off this world." Elias explains to Sam, running his fingers through his hair, "Largely, that is your plan. I am just going to try to make it more manageable."

Elias says "Out of her rather."
Juniper appears to appreciate the sound of this approach more than whatever had been tossed about earlier as she nods thoughtfully. "We're here, such that we are, to help. But this is so out of my realm of expertise, just holler what you need." The blonde looks between Elias and Sam both with some solidarity.

"We're both right behind you," Victoria assures, nodding agreement with Juniper.

"Well, what I am going to recommend is we just text her and ask for a meeting and see if she will help her with that. There is no way we are going to capture her if she doesn't want to be captured." Elias says to Sam with a grunt.

Victoria says "One of you better have a way with words."
If the plan involves finding Selina to trace something from her, the group will run into a fairly large issue right off the bat. Not only has she not been seen since an encounter with Juniper, her phone seems to be disconnected. But if they just need to find one of the foci she used for the spell, those are littered around town almost haphazardly compared to some of her previous spells. Almost like she wanted someone to find them and disable them, given the restrictions and dampeners she placed on the spell itself. Of course, reaching those will involve leaving the place the group is currently gathered. At least three are inside town, on top of a roof of a business or residence within city limits. Others are placed in the woods.

Juniper laughs suddenly at that, pulling a hand through the hair on the top of her head. "No, definitely not. Though it'd be a funny-" Sam's theory has her stop her jesting for a moment before she regards the two arcanists with a pursed mouth. "Honestly."

With that, Sam steps over towards the large, scarlet ritual triangle in the floor. Deep gouges in the floor seem to feed from upstairs, where the sludgefukk fighting pit is, perhaps explaining the source of it's color. The jock clasps his hand around that ring, and speaks, voice laced with disdain. "Gonthorian, by fire and blood..." He takes hold of a strange kris knife, it's blade oily in nature. A shudder goes through his body briefly, before he draws it across his palm, before closing that hand around the ring. "Reveal the seals on this spell."

A little less ambitious, perhaps, the jock casts his gaze upward. "Let's find a focus first."

"I don't have her number so I hope you do, Elias," Juniper states quickly, absolving herself.

"Well, it seems like that her phone is off or not working. I won't be able to get ahold of her like that." Elias says as he looks down at his phone with a faint shrug, glancing back over to Sam, "Do you think you can actually draw that power that is contained within her like that? If you wanted to summon it, we will likely have to release it by tampering with the stones."

"Looks like step one is, find a focus," Juniper echoes Sam's sentiment, nodding toward Elias.

Sam says "Either or. The power this ring was drawn from, was the binding circle used to slay him. Can't get closer to Selina than that."
Juniper says "Peachy. "
Victoria says "So. Seems like we're going looking."
"Would they be obvious? Like the dragon mountain and the dragon-y bar in town?" Juniper asks idly, trying to use brain power where magic fails her. "Or, would she put it under the bed of someone she hates?"

"It is hard to say, but several of them have been spotted, we just need to figure out exactly where. I mean, they would be obvious locations right? Places she has control over largely?" Elias asks Juniper, rubbing his chin thoughtfully before he looks over to Sam, "So, Sam, I think do know the most of what actually happened and the ritual used in the sealing process, you were there, correct?"

Sam says "Correct. We slew Gonthorian, and Selina ate what was left of him. So I think this is her preventing herself from becoming a new host for him."
Juniper says "Thank goodness for that."
Victoria winds a lock of hair around her index finger, silent in thought.

"Well, I guess the first step would be to do some leg work, or rather wing work I suppose. I suggest we fan out and look for these foci." Elias says to the others before asking Sam, "So, do you know what they look like?"

Sam says "No idea, but I'm hoping I can get a scent on em."
"Would you not be able to feel their presence?" Juniper asks with real curiosity. "Theoretically I could find a focus from its magic stink while flying through the woods probably better than seeing it. Unless it's the size of a refridgerator of course."

The metaphysical version of 'You are what you eat,' does hold true that if Selina consumed Gonthorian, he could exert some measure of influence upon her, even in such a discorporated state. Thankfully, it seems that by dispersing that energy through her series of foci, she will avoid the worst of that fate for the time being anyway. Metaphysics are not exactly a precise science in that regard. Regardless, a quick couple of orders to various minions and agents would indeed reveal the locations of some foci, starting with a focus atop the Sleepy Dragon Inn and Retreat. As well as the apartments on Main Street somewhere. And probably one near the Apartments on Elm, just to cover her bases. Her foci are no frills affairs, comprised of some precious metals, gems and crystals, mostly worthless, save for channeling various bits of energy, especially gate energy. Like a cross between a sextant, a dream catcher, and a geometry problem wrecked together with a jewelry store. Selina's scent is known to at least one or two members present and would feature strongly on those tiny works of art. Of course, there is also the more arcanistic approach to feel and follow magical trails and vibes. Selina's being rather distinct due to the nature of her magic being entirely foreign to this reality.

"So are we splitting up, or are we going together?" Victoria wonders.

"I think we just need one, but let's grab the one at the dragon, then Elm street, then go southside if still neded?" Sam looks for confirmation from Victoria, Elias, and Juniper.

"Easy," Juniper chimes in. "Elias can easily fly out and carry on his person if we only need one."

"Or rather, carry on his non-person," Juniper corrects herself.

Sam says "Bird-son. "
"Well, she is using the foci to defuse the power from the fire lizard." Elias says, seeming still unwilling to speak Gonthorian's name after all this time, "What if we collect the foci and then you use them to do what they are intended to do, but at a faster rate and store it into that ring of yours?" He asks, looking over to Sam.

Juniper chuckles, giving Sam an appreciative nod.

"Works for me." Sam smirks, and looks at Elias. "So." He looks to Elias. "Would you be so kind?"

"Do I look like the guy that does all the manual labor?" Elias asks Sam with a grunt, "How about I just turn you into a newt and we can wait until you scurry around for a while and find the foci while I get myself a cup of coffee?"

Victoria says "How very wizard of you."
"Hey, you're the one who can fly while carrying a focus and one happens to be on a rooftop nearby," Juniper retorts with a tsk. "If your cronies have shifting abilities then I didn't know our money was getting us such valuable returns in labour!"

"Fine, fine. I'll grab the one on top of the Elm street apartments. My apartment has a fire-escape with roof access." Sam speaks, clearly having gone rooftop exploring before. "Split up, met up here, take the fire-lizard, toss him into the ice or void, have a drink, call it a day?"

"Agreed. Lets head outside and start this search." Elias agree as he starts heading towards the stairs, "How many are there, Sam?"

"Right, well. I'm headed off with June then. I don't think all of them will be in such obvious spots." Victoria shrugs.

Lending credence to the saying, 'Do not meddle in the affairs of wizard, for thou art flammable and easily fireballed,' though in this case more of the transmutation school than the evocation one. As for the specific number, at least a dozen have been spotted, again seemingly haphazardly strewn about the town and forest, almost at random. The caster of the spell wanted them in places folks could stumble upon them. As the team splits up, they head to their various spots. And ... who decides to be the first one to snag one of these geometrically challenged dreamcatcher wreck foci and move it from its current position?

"I'll fly and scout then," Juniper suggests to Victoria. "And you can be my hands and pockets for collecting. This blonde and brunette will likely /not/ be the first to pick up and move anything magic, however."

"I'll fly and scout then," Juniper suggests to Victoria. "And you can be my hands and pockets for collecting." This blonde and brunette will likely /not/ be the first to pick up and move anything magic, however. (fix)

With the air speed velocity of a European swallow.... errr gyrofalcon, it would probably be Elias.

"Yeah, sounds like a plan, just.." Victoria grows thoughtful. "Don't drop anything on me by accident, okay?"

Clearly out-flapped, Sam yields this contest of man (on bike) versus bird.

Juniper might have the air speed velocity of an African swallow, but she's not picking up anything. Not even coconuts.

Naturally flight usually wins the race, so Elias(gyrfalcon) is the first to make it to his focus, and thus, is the first to take in the majestic misery of arcane symbolism gone awry that it represents. From a lesser arcanist, one could think it was crafted by the lazy, the inept, or the grossly undereducated. Given the source, it is likely none of the three, though the last is the most likely. Still, most arcanists would approach such a cobbled together magical device with caution before disturbing it too overly much. There is, after all, a crater somewhere in the north forest to testify to the caster's ability to set traps in her arcane accoutrement.

After Elias flies into position for the first foci, everything about it stops the dark haired man in his tracks. He rubs his chin thoughtfully as he inspects if for a long moment before deciding to get a closer look. After a few moments of inspection, the stormcaller gives it a nudge with his fingertip, attempting to move it ever so slightly, perhaps a few centimeters or so.

So long as there is no word from Elias, Juniper makes no move to do anything dumb, only flying about with Victoria and definitely not /trying/ to poop on her, despite how lucky that would be.

As soon as Elias tips over the cobbled together focus and it falls down, it starts to fizzle and disintegrate, rendering itself into a pile of ashes blown away on a breeze in a matter of seconds, leaving behind charred bits of crystal and 'gems' worth no more than a few pennies. The action triggers a reaction in the spell, the delicate balance of energies preserved by the delicate instruments starts to fall apart. All of the foci disintegrate in a similar fashion. And the magic being directed skyward begins to dissipate. It may linger for a little while longer, as such astrological events are wont to do, but the end of the spell is, for a change, just that simple. But why would someone bent on venting the remaining energy of Gonthorian make it that easy to disrupt the spell?

Victoria peers Juniper intently.

Victoria peers AT Juniper intently.

Pushing himself to his feet with a small nod, Elias offers to himself, "Thought so. Not a bad plan and the best part it seemed to work. Let me just...." And he starts texting the others of what he did and his observations.

As soon as the spell dissipates, Sam lets out a "SON OF A FUCK!" As he reads Elias's text, he scowls again. "Motherfucker." And finally, just because magic comes in three, he finishes with a "Bastard." He lets out a hiss, his quarry escaped. Nonetheless, he returns to the bowels of sludgefukk, and the hidden shrine below.
