Heralds Of Winters Grasps Operation In Westrend 240830

In the frostbitten landscape of Westrend, beneath the shadow of the ancient fortress known as Frosthaven, a motley crew of adventurers dubbed the Heralds embarked on a perilous mission. Tasked with clearing the stronghold of its haunting specters and claiming it for their burgeoning cult, the group – consisting of Ash, Korina, and Dean – clashed not only with vengeful spirits but also with their own chaotic dynamics. As they infiltrated the haunted fortress, they were met with an eerie silence, swiftly shattered by a ghastly shriek that heralded the onslaught of spectral foes. The cold, relentless wind seemed almost alive, accompanying them as they delved deeper into the macabre heart of Frosthaven.

Combat ensued with a frenzied pace, highlighted by Korina's lethal arrows and Dean's heavy strikes, while Ash focused on the monumental task of banishing the spirits. They encountered Declan, a lone Templar, who proved to be more of a nuisance than a threat, his presence eliciting snide remarks and united aggression from the group. Despite their bickering and occasional distractions – ranging from Ash's nonchalant humor to Dean's blunt instrumentality and Korina's deadly precision – they systematically dismantled their ghostly adversaries. Remarkably, amidst the chaos, Ash's efforts to banish the spirits bore fruit, steadily reclaiming Frosthaven from its ethereal occupiers. The operation culminated in success not through brute force alone but through a grit and synergy born of necessity. Haunted by the cold and their enemies both corporeal and not, the Heralds emerged victorious, their camaraderie forged in the spectral fires of battle and their objective reached amidst the echoes of a fortress no longer forsaken.

Mission: Get to the designated site and continue banishing vengeful spirits to reclaim the abandoned fortress until the process is complete.

With the Heralds' attempt to gain influence in the villages and towns of Westrend having met a rousing success, they now turn their eyes upon establishing a foothold in the realm. To this end, they aim to capture and fortify an ancient, abandoned fortress known as Frosthaven in the middle of the mountains in Westrend, known to be haunted by ghosts and spirits of ages past and in the process of steadily decaying. This fortress is strategically located near several key villages and trade routes, making it an ideal base of operations.

The operation involves an assault to seize Frosthaven and banish the aggressive spirits that linger within and turn other spirits to Vaelys' cause, followed by swift fortification and the establishment of a cultic presence within its walls. The Heralds will renovate the crumbling fortress, restoring its grandeur while imbuing it with the frost magic of Vaelys. From this stronghold, they will begin spreading their influence further into the Wilds.

the haunted halls of Frosthaven
It is afternoon, about 16F(-8C) degrees, and the sky is partly covered by grey clouds.

Ash sighs.

Ash says "Fuck. "
Dean says "Alright, let's fuck some shit up."
Korina says "What? "
Ash says "Sedan? "
Korina says "Alley. "
Korina makes a supernatural leap to alley.
Dean says "Alley it is."
Ash charges toward alley.
Dean makes a supernatural leap to alley.
Frosthaven rises from the mountainside like a ghost, its crumbling walls half-buried in snow and frost, veiled in a perpetual shroud of mist that clings to the ancient stone. The air is cold in the walls of the fortress, pervasive and bone-deep, and a biting wind howls through the empty hallways from broken windows, carrying with it the eerie moans of restless spirits.

As people enter the halls for the first time in decades, the walls seem to fall silent, the howling wind holding its breath...

And then there's a shrill, heart-stopping shriek - a piercing wail that cuts through the silence. The air grows heavy and colder still as spectral beings begin to manifest, some human, some beast-like, swooping down on the invaders within their halls in waves.

Ash says "I was just in a conversation - lost track of time."
Korina says "I see that one guy. Is there anyone else?"
Declan charges toward alley.
Korina charges toward alley.
Ash charges toward alley.
Dean charges toward alley.
Ash says "I presume the Templar is an opponent?"
Declan charges toward alley.
Korina says "Yes. Templars are usually."
Loosely drawing back her bowstring, Korina takes aim at Declan and lets an arrow fly where it may; it strikes the alley he's taking cover behind.

Dean says "That guy is called Declan."
Korina moves protectively towards alley.
Ash charges toward alley.
Korina says "I don't care enough to remember"
Ash says "Deccy, I've heard."
Dean charges toward alley.
Ash snickers, for some reason.

Dean says "I'm only giving a name to the stupid face you're going to bash in."
"Hey, rude one," Declan greets from in the alleyway.

Declan fires off a shot at Korina which completely misses her.

Korina says, a self-fulfilling prophecy, "Shut up."
Loosely drawing back her bowstring, Korina takes aim at Declan and lets an arrow fly where it may; it strikes the alley he's taking cover behind.

Korina charges toward Declan.
Declan starts to look a little more unsure of himself.

Dean charges toward alley.
Korina says "Ash, get started on capture point."
Korina says "... and run faster."
Dean says "We're not getting any opposition recently, except the Temple."
Declan launches a stab at Korina, it is parried by her set of graceful, wickedly-bladed claws.

Ash says "Your wish is my command...."
Dean says "I guess they're getting tired of being ridiculed."
Korina's steel claws slash through the air savagely towards Declan, their viciously-bladed edges seeking to rip and tear without restraint, and the assault is parried by his black ceramic knife.

Ash runs towards the objective.
Dean charges toward Declan.
Ash says "Can't blame them - seems that even many of their members hate the Templars, let alone enemies."
Korina's claws of steel swipe in a languid slash towards Declan, aiming to nick instead of kill as she repositions for a follow-up; the attack is parried by his black ceramic knife.

Declan launches a stab at Korina, it is parried by her set of graceful, wickedly-bladed claws.

Dean charges toward Declan.
Dean balances the weight of his weapon with both hands, winds up for a horrible strike then swings it at Declan in a vicious arch downward arch that is parried by his black ceramic knife.

Declan fades out of the nightmare.
Ash runs towards the objective.
Korina moves protectively towards Ash.
Korina says "Are you doing it yet..."
Ash says "Basically. "
Dean says "Do we stand point at capture or should I wait here?"
Ash runs towards the objective.
Ash continues banishing vengeful spirits to reclaim the abandoned fortress.

Korina says "You can wait there. It is not very far."
Ash says "See? Here, banishing spirits. A full-on spiritual banisher."
Korina says "Yes. Very good."
Dean says "Less talking, more working, Ash."
Ash is clearly a bit out of breath, but seems pleased.

Ash says "Some people can multitask - amazing, no?"
Ash continues banishing vengeful spirits to reclaim the abandoned fortress.

Dean slowly takes a seat on the ground, and starts to shrug off his helmet. His claymore is held up and balanced on the ground between his legs, silently sharpened with a whetstone he pulls out of his pocket for it.

Ash continues banishing vengeful spirits to reclaim the abandoned fortress.

"Has there just been... no spirits...?" Korina questions, squinting out into the halls of the fortress, not seeming to mind the cold in the least.

Korina says "Maybe they got scared."
Dean says "Cowards. "
Ash continues banishing vengeful spirits to reclaim the abandoned fortress.

Korina considers, then reconsiders it, and then just shrugs. "Oh, I see one."

Loosely drawing back her bowstring, Korina takes aim at a vengeful spirit baring spectral claws and teeth and lets an arrow fly where it may; it misses him.

Ash sips from their drink, then goes - "Ah"

Dean twists the blade around and pulls it out of the ground to lay it on his lap. The other side is slowly sharpened - or so it would seem unti lhe stopss to look up and note the spirit barging forward. "I'll engage it." And that said, he's chucking the whetstone away into the alley over his shoulder to begin standing up.

A vengeful spirit baring spectral claws and teeth is pulled towards Dean by an invisible force.

Dean swings his weapon at a vengeful spirit baring spectral claws and teeth, it is parried by him.

Dean says "The fuck."
Dean may have said that, but that doesn't mean Korina isn't going to shoot her shot - or, well, her arrows anyway. "What?" she questions.

The strength in her muscles is evident when Korina pulls her bowstring back with full force, the wood filled with tension before she lets go. The arrow whizzes through the air towards a vengeful spirit baring spectral claws and teeth and strikes the alley he's taking cover behind.

Korina says "Oh. It wants to destroy the alley instead."
Dean says "I barely nicked it."
A vengeful spirit baring spectral claws and teeth draws and quickly fires an arrow at Dean, it misses him.

Dean says "Only way I know."

a vengeful spirit baring spectral claws and teeth fades out of the nightmare.
The spirit wails out loud in Dean's face, an otherworldly noise that pierces the eardrums very loudly as it lashes out with spectral claws and teeth.

Sparks fly when the spirit lashes out, but it is blocked near effortlessly, and claws slide off of the massive back of Dean's claymore. His return is a swing that cuts through where its head would be, severing it in half to let it dissipate into nothing. A simple flourish aside after, he's turning on his heel in search of the next one.

a vengeful spirit baring spectral claws and teeth fades out of the nightmare.
Dean stops a fair ways distance away this time, just to hang away his claymore and undo the repeater latch of his crossbow. Bolts are drawn, fistful of it, from his belt and stuffed into it so he can lift it up and take aim again. It isn't an efforted act, he's doing it lazily, without much of a proper aim.

Ash continues banishing vengeful spirits to reclaim the abandoned fortress.

"Rude." Korina tells the spirit as she tears it apart with her claws like a knife slicing through butter, and then huffs out a breath. "What?" comes the question out loud for Ash, properly this time.

Ash might have been looking away when Korina shot the last few times - all they could hear was Dean's battle noises.

Ash says "What? Did the spirits say something?"
Except, Dean's sights are on nothing but empty air. Someone else has already taken care of it, so Dean lowers his crossbow to hang it at his hip like a pistol again. "If not for that Templar, we might have seen a lot more of those." It sounds like he's somewhat dejected about it.

Korina says "They said you are working too slow."
Dean charges toward alley.
Ash thinks that they were clever.

Ash says "Strange, given how eagerly I'm trying to wake up. They must not have a good sense of time."
Ash continues banishing vengeful spirits to reclaim the abandoned fortress.

Ash doesn't sound sarcastic - it's as if they assume that Korina is truly communing with them.

Ash hums, occasionally adding words. "Stacy's mom has got it going on...."

Dean says "What the fuck are you talking about?"
Korina agrees with Dean.

Ash continues banishing vengeful spirits to reclaim the abandoned fortress.

Ash says "The spirits were talking shit, didn't you hear?"
Dean says "And that made you sing?"
Ash says "Oh, no - just an earworm."
Ash hums some more, the melody trapped in their head - perhaps they're trying to infect Dean

Ash continues banishing vengeful spirits to reclaim the abandoned fortress.

Korina shivers all of a sudden, as though a cold chill has run down her spine. There's a glance over her shoulder, and no spirit to be seen.

In between talking to his headset and staring over yonder at Ash, Dean is unholstering his crossbow to start loading it with more bolts. All the way instead of the few and far in between one or two he stuffs in it lazily - it's a full magazine. He lifts it up - takes aim. At Ash.

Dean says "Korina, can I just shoot him a few times?"
Dean says "In his mouth?"
Dean says "He won't die."
The Lawful Extremists Alliance has proved victorious.
