A Battle In The Nightmare 240901

(A battle in the Nightmare)

[Sat Aug 31 2024]

In a lavishly-appointed master bedroom

The cloudy-blue walls of this room coupled with gentle mahogany accents give it a cozy, inviting feel. The bedroom is kept comfortable and well-appointed with a luxurious king-sized mattress flanked by an elegantly hand-crafted nightstand. Across from the bed, a sleek dresser and walk-in wardrobe provide ample room for outfits.

A vaulted skylight in the textured ceiling's center bathes all below in a gentle wash of changing light, warming through the cozy, muted palettes arranged throughout the decor. Artificial lighting design shines too, pulled together with ultra-modern shades and fixtures. From heat to light to sound, there's nothing in the room that can't be adjusted at the press of a remote, app, or the touchscreen on the wall.

It is about 60F(15C) degrees.

"I was trying to nap," Korina complains, but she doesn't seem too put-off by the prospect of a fight even if she's yawning. There's a casual stroll towards Emmanuel, and a wave of her fingers through the air, trailing light behind them. "Asad," she calls out with a growl in her voice, waiting for the other cat to join her in scratching up Emmanuel.

There's a little pause as Emmanuel reorientates himself on where the nightmare had tossed him. Dog bed. A dog chew? Not that unusual. A grenade laucher? Okay, that's a little less common. Some severed horn of a beast? Clearly someone aware, and then there's a giant bloody dire-cat. That's very unusual. Very rare. Even more legendary? An hoenst to god paper crown from Burger King. In Haven? WOAH.

"..Ah, maybe it is time to be going back to sleep?" Emmanuel suggests to Korina at her words, raising a tranq gun to shoot a dart in her to help! He's just trying to help her guys! He follows this up by rushing in closer and trying to bully her toward her bed, so she can sleep. She's so tired, so eepy!

Korina lets out an annoyed growl at Emmanuel, resisting his efforts to make her go back to eepyland just out of sheer spite, and bringing up her claws to deflect the swing of his axe. Meanwhile, Asad over there is taking his sweet time waking up and yawning and doing a lot of cute dire-cat things that will be not-so-cute in just a few moments.

Uh oh. Emmanuel has been beaten up by Korina enough times now that he knows what is about to come, "You just want to nap! Oui? Remember?" He calls out, struggling against her sharp, deadly claws with the head of his axe. There's another shove afforded before he just tucks tail and turns to run away, trying to create space.

Yes, it doesn't quite take a genius to know what's coming next. Running away from Korina usually has the unintended result of triggering all of her predatory instincts, and there's another growl at Emmanuel's back as he turns, and quick feet upon the insubstantial, nightmarish ground before she's closing in behind him and lashing out in an attempt to shred him to pieces. And then there's someone too, finally, having decided to show up to help for a two-pronged assault on the poor Frenchman. "I will nap after this," she tells Emmanuel, so the polite thing would be to go down faster, surely.

Yes, it doesn't quite take a genius to know what's coming next. And then there's Asad too, finally, having decided to show up to help for a two-pronged assault on the poor Frenchman. Fortunately, Emmanuel manages to catch this shredding assault with his axe- unfortunately, it isn't a shield, and thus the axehead just bounces right back into his chest to whack him regardless. The transfer of force knocks the wind out of the man, who attempts to swing back while scrambling away, searching for somewhere to escape to, "Ah, good cat, hm? Do not do the biting, eh?" He tries to sway a feisty, juvenile dire-cat with blue and grey stripes and too much energy away from eating him.

The good cat is here to do the biting. The bad cat is also here to do the biting. However, it would appear as though there's a bit of anti-synergy happening here, because as Korina goes in for the next strike of claws, so does a feisty, juvenile dire-cat with blue and grey stripes and too much energy, and she has to yelp and change her trajectory to not bonk the cat right in the head. The result is a poorly-aimed lash of claws that catches against the side of Emmanuel's battle-axe instead of hitting him properly. A shame.

"No!" Korina tells a feisty, juvenile dire-cat with blue and grey stripes and too much energy. "This is not how we practiced."

It isn't just a feisty, juvenile dire-cat with blue and grey stripes and too much energy and Korina making mistakes, Emmanuel ends up half-dropping, half-juggling his smoke grenade as he tries to wiggle away from the terrible tactics of the twosome! It explodes in his face, flooding this small corner of the nightmare with smoke as he wails around, swinging his weapon blindly, "Ack!" This is certainly not going to plan.

"Stay still!" Korina tells Emmanuel as though that's going to be an effective strategy - yes, just be still and let Korina beat you up like a good little Frenchboy. And then, "Asad-- no, from /behind/!" This is /definitely/ certainly not going to plan. She lets out a cough at the smoke that fills this corner of the nightmare, and Asad lets out a loud, loud meowrrr before pouncing again at Emmanuel's legs, sending the man sprawling backwards at the same time Korina tries to hit him. She leans forward to catch him with her claws, and ends up unbalancing herself enough that there's an "eep!" - that Emmanuel should only bring up later if he's feeling masochistic - and then Korina's /also/ tripping over the fiesty direcat with wide eyes and stretching out her hand claws-first to stabilize herself--

Those claws shred right through Emmanuel's calf - it could've been worse. Really. It could have.

Emmanuel fades out of the nightmare.
