Ashs Ghost Banishing 240806
On a stormy afternoon at Arkwright Cemetery, a group of individuals faced off against a manifestation of ghostly and demonic forces. Ash, surrounded by friends and would-be allies, was tasked with banishing these spirits back to the ether. The atmosphere was heavily charged with the smell of brimstone and the visual of swirling, menacing black mist forming horned creatures. Amidst the chaos, there were moments of tension and bickering among the group, particularly between Korina and Jodie, whose personal squabbles almost overshadowed the immediate supernatural threat. Ash, demonstrating both resourcefulness and a bit of bravado, engaged with the spirits directly, initiating a complex ritual to banish them. They were supported by the efforts of Nikolai, who wielded his own form of magic, and Saoirse, who despite her previous inexperience, contributed with her focused, albeit nervous, determination.
The climax of the encounter saw Ash completing the ritual despite physical assaults from the smoke demons, including a particularly aggressive winged monkey-demon. The group dynamics were volatile, with members displaying a range of emotions from anger to distress, yet they managed to focus their efforts when it mattered most. Korina, in her snow leopard form, and Jodie, with her raw hostility, added to the chaotic energy but ultimately it was the collective effort, spearheaded by Ash's unwavering focus, that ensured their success. The ceremony culminated in the banishment of the entities, as the mist that had enveloped them dissipated into nothingness, leaving a palpable sense of relief among the group. In the end, despite the interpersonal conflicts and the physical and magical onslaught they faced, the group's tenacity and varied contributions resulted in the restoration of peace to the cemetery, albeit temporarily.
(Ash's ghost banishing)
[Mon Aug 5 2024]
On the Sprawling Hillside of Arkwright Cemetery
It is afternoon, about 79F(26C) degrees, and the sky is covered by dark grey stormclouds. It's raining.
There is the sudden smell of brimstone that fills the area, and along with a rising, black mist: smoke, coiling along the surface of the graveyard. It seems to form strange whorls and shapes, and as they draw close to %n they begin to look more and more like creatures -- horned creatures, with red eyes full of menace.
Nikolai's not so concerned about the rain, and apparently neither is his phone. Thing must be really, really well waterproofed. "If we are not doing this," he says slowly, "We can just go. No need to stand in bad weather - aha."
Korina says "Oh. "
Ash says "Ah, fucking *demons* again."
Jodie furrows her brow, and plucks her unlit cigarette from between her lips to stow it away. "Hey its not the three ghost we delt with for months. I think I'll take this over that."
Fucking demons indeed. Korina looks like she'd have preferred that annoying trio of pirates for once, if the alternative means she actually has to do work. "You can talk now," she tells Ash instead. It's unsubtle.
Ash tilts their head one way, then another. "Eh." To Korina, they say, "You want to hold this, then? And maybe tell me some secrets about how you've learned to shine so bright?" They gesture with the umbrella.
Out of the smoke charges an armed and armored warrior, spun out of black mist. He is dressed head to toe in archaic plate armor, wielding some huge, two-handed sword as black as his armor. With a roar, he rushes at Ash, swinging the sword in some attempt to cut off their head.
"Just spirits," Nikolai grunts, drawing a ball-peen hammer from an inner jacket pocket. "Not really demons. Not a problem for your magic, da?" Nevermind how likely a bunch of ritualists are going to set off a werewolf in no time flat - not his problem. He is a man of straightforward means, and those means currently manifest as a lance of flame which punches through the chest of one such horned-ghost, wicking away at whatever spiritual remains comprise its corpus.
Saoirse is peering closely at the things that were emerging; she seems less worried than the last time, at least. "That's -so- demon." She gets into a position much like the last time, sitting fully upon the sopping wet ground. She is, unfortunately, dealing with it. Entering into a focused state, she sweeps her hands around in circular motions in front of her, closing her eyes and steadying her breathing.
Ash leans back, endangering Korina's dry space as they do so, their fast reflexes enough to avoid at least the phantom pain of having their throat slit.
"You do not know what demon is," Nikolai grunts in Saoirse's direction, shaking his dissatisfaction. "I thought you would have learned something by next time we met. Disappointing." To Jodie, he asks, "You have grenades? Tools, or something? Blasts could disrupt ghosts. Neutralisers have some effect. What do Temple train you with, wolf girl?" Because the wolf girl part wouldn't help very much.
Ash sighs as they fail to hand over the umbrella, even though to take this at least somewhat seriously, Both hands are generally needed for their type of graveyard magic. "Nah, disrupting their corporeal forms is helpful. Fight the ghosts, it destabilizes them and makes it easier to banish them."
In fact, that seems to have reminded Korina of something - she eyes Jodie for a moment. "Remind me to punch you later. After a nap."
"The new moon is over, you missed your chance to win." Jodie snerks at Korina with a bit of attitude that comes off as petulant.
"Not like I have anyone to teach me anything." Saoirse comments in reply to Nikolai, between circular waving of her hands around some manner of invisible orb in front of her. At the very least, she seems considerably calmer and more focused than the last time this happened; even if her knowledge hadn't increased, her mindset towards it had certainly changed.
A hot wind blows through the cemetery, and with it comes sibilant whispers in the ears of Ash and all their companions: they promise depraved, decadent desires fulfilled, and for a moment that's all anyone can focus on.
"I will cut your tail off," Korina tells Jodie, and then immediately proceeds to get very distracted by daydreams of cutting werewolf tails off, probably. It looks like she's having a good time with whatever's being whispered to her, at least.
Jodie flips a finger at Korina and seeming to have no fear about that threat, and in turn she tells her own desire, "I'll fuck your man just to piss you off cause frankly. I'm not interested." she has a venom in her voice that just comes across like a belligerent in a bar looking to start a brawl.
Saoirse is very distracted; a shiver passes through her, and a blush rose to her cheeks, hands clasping together for a moment and wringing with each other. It is as if she needed something to distract her hands with, or else they would do something completely different.
Nikolai's a little better prepared for the whispered promises of the hellish spirits this time around; particularly given the disaster that got circulated around the last time he'd dealt with these - and then he pauses, his conjured flames guttering for a moment as he turns to stare at Jodie. "Get over self," he suggests, then eyes Korina. "Maybe in hospital. Good luck."
Ash giggles as the whispers start. "This fucking thing... I'm a very simple person. Nothing so dark about wanting to cuddle up with a cute boy." Fine, one handed. With Korina handling the light, they have an excuse to stand near her, and channel her light. Light can be twisted, refracted, reflected, and focused, and that's what Ash is trying to do here. The umbrella is shifted into their offhand so that they can reach out with their strong hand, from which hangs a charm bracelet. The tiny mirror charm catches the light and focuses it - cutting through the shadowy smoke with bright beams of energy, leaving behind remnants, glowing runes. They work slowly, turning in a widdershins circle as they simultaneously fight off demonic spirits and leave different runes in each clock position.
Out of the smoke charges an armed and armored warrior, spun out of black mist. He is dressed head to toe in archaic plate armor, wielding some huge, two-handed sword as black as his armor. With a roar, he rushes at Ash, swinging the sword in some attempt to cut off their head.
Fuck ghosts and demons and whatever else - Korina looks like her real enemy here is Jodie. At least those words are good for breaking her away from the whispering going on in her ear, because she snarls out loud and shifts fluidly to a more four-legged form - sorry Ash, you're on your own - growling aloud at Jodie.
Korina(snow leopard)'s tail's all puffed up, and rapidly getting drenched in the rain. That's not gonna stop her from posturing, though. There's a swish-swoosh of it through the air, eyes narrowed at Jodie to egg her onwards - come on, give her a tail to bite.
Saoirse continues to refine her focus; she is quite fortunate in that she was not the target of too many vicious acts by the entities in front of them, but at the very least, she could act as a sort of anchor for those that were. She moves her hands apart anew, circling around the invisible object in front of her. A sense of stability pervades the area near her.
Jodie shows off her slightly crooked teeth and pronounced canines as she snarls in human form at the snow leopard. She seems hostile at the escalation but she does not respond in kind. "Just what I thought. An idiot." then she motions to the poor punk who nearly got decapitated, "We are here to do something useful, I understand you've never been useful in your life but you can try to learn."
From the smoky mist, a circle of hooded figures seem to approach, chanting in unison. At first, they seem to be living people, but as they draw closer to Ash it becomes clear they are smoke monsters themselves. They reach out as their chants increase in volume, and it is as if they are sucking the air out of the lungs of everyone present.
"Just like Minotaurs," Nikolai grunts over to Ash, turning his attention back - and then, no, it's whipped back to Jodie in a flash. "Shut up disrespectful mouth. You have never triumphed over Korina. She took one step into world, instantly found her place in it. I heard you spent two decade being rejected by your family, then got microchip stuck in your brain." He sneers. "Heard they fried you so good you left town." His flames gutter out for another moment, but it's not his own distraction - it's to conserve the air he breathes, as he chokes down a cough. "Fuck," he swears. "I hate ghosts. Blyat."
Ash takes another half step, but rather than blast him, they dodge again, a grunted grumble as they narrowly avoid the swipe for a second time. He is not, unfortunately, in the next quadrant of their circle, nor is he in an established part of it, and thus, unable to be dealt with without changing the order of things. Each rune has part of a circle attached to it, and with each clicking piece, the circle forms, growing stronger. "Jodie, don't make this a two-on-one, I'm sort of busy, as you-" Their low, calm anger is cut off as the spirits step in, proving the point rather rudely. Their face grimaces as they fight to breath, but it doesn't actually *stop* them... just forces them to do it slower, without incantation.
There's a pause, another beat or three, and then Korina(snow leopard) prowls her way back to Nikolai's side this time. She circles the man, trying to look as imposing as possible while also looking exactly like a drowning cat getting a bath it really isn't pleased with, and she bats lightly at the smoke monsters that appear, not straying from the Russian man's side. In fact, she might just be an active hindrance, with the way she gets underfoot.
Saoirse cracks an eye open at Korina and Jodie, giving a short sigh, before her eyes widen for a moment, as if remembering something. "Oh! Right, better idea..." She shuffles within her duffle bag for a moment, before pulling out a handful of crudely-hewn quartz crystals from the bag. Lifting up the crystals in one hand, she throws them at the circle of hooded figures, the light shining around them refracting and shining through the crystalline structures within...
Jodie wants to open her mouth to throw insults back at Nikolai and its clear his weirds struck a nerve. But the whole reason everyone is here is the ghost that needs banishing and as they chant loudly to drown out the infighting she turns to face them with a distinctly pissed off look on her face, "How do we shut them up?"
A hot wind blows through the cemetery, and with it comes sibilant whispers in the ears of Ash and all their companions: they promise depraved, decadent desires fulfilled, and for a moment that's all anyone can focus on.
Saoirse shivers yet again, hand quickly reaching to her phone to type out something as it beeped, a blush spreading across her face once more. After a moment, she blinks, blush deepening, and she tapped out yet another message. Clearly, she must have sent something she shouldn't have.
Ash gives Saoirse a grin, approving, though seems surprise that she's... tossing them. But, light grenades are light grenades, so they return to focus on their circle, able to breathe a little easier. They're close to two-thirds of the way through, having started at four (if north is midnight), and are working on 9. If anyone has the interest to care, anyways. They hold the umbrella over themself, now, as it's nowhere near big enough to handle the cat, and they continue their slow spin. They *do* seem a bit more distracted, this time, glancing over at Jodie - perhaps there's dark desires after all, with their anger residing firmly within them. Shoulders stiff, lush lips in a grim line, buuuuut... focused. They have a task to continue, and it's not too powerful a desire.
Juuuust for now, Korina(snow leopard) seems more occupied with Nikolai than she is with staring aggressively across the gravestones at Jodie. She butts her head against the man's shin, seeking scritches. What more could a cat ask for?
With a howl, some kind of winged monkey-demon swoops down near Ash, its body made of living smoke. It's all grasping claws, striking hard to leave psychic scars that hurt like deep slashes. Other monkeys attack anyone nearby, with similar screeching, rending claws.
As the party nears the end Jodie is thoroughly drenched, grumpy thanks to Korina(snow leopard) and Nikolai and annoyed by the ghost interrupting her bickering. She's not actually done anything to provide assistance to the banishing itself. Unless feeding the spirits need to make people feel their desires somehow helps move it along.
Six o'clock, 5 o' clock... monkey o' clock? Ash flinch back, yelling, "Hey, talking about useful, Miss Ma'am, did you forget when I asked you to discor-fucking-porate these guys? That means punch them or something, Jesus fucking Christ." They are almost done, though, and know it, so they decide to stop dodging, and just taking the hits. They focus, face making agonized grimaces, until the monkey flits to the perfect position and... BAM! Lasered! And the circle is complete.
Maybe it does, for all they know. Korina(snow leopard) has been, somehow, even less help than Jodie. At least she's still keeping the floating lights in the sky to lessen the impact of the dark mist and smoke while she gets drenched in the rainstorm and poses as a tripping hazard for Nikolai - but what are students for, if not to carry out their teacher's wishes and desires? Ash has this handled surely, because she hasn't given Saoirse a second glance that would imply she puts any weight into her capabilities.
Saoirse shoves her phone away into her bag, before taking out yet another handful of the rough quartz crystals, arraying them around herself in an attempt to put up some kind of defense against the monkeys flitting around her. Grasping a crystal in her left hand between her index, middle, and thumb, and yet another crystal cradled gently in the palm of her hand, positioned just below her abdomen, she resembles something out of, perhaps, a religious icon. Or a poor imitation of one, at least.
The smell of smoke seems to peak, and then, with a rush of magical power, it's gone. The smoke monsters in the cemetery disappear, banished -- fading away as wisps of mist in the air around $n.
