On Perdition's Passage
Tucked away, this secluded dirt road cuts through the dense embrace of the forest. It's barely a two-lane path, whispering of civilization rather than declaring it. This narrow ribbon of packed down earth is carved beneath a canopy of old trees, with their branches forming a living tunnel above the compacted soil. Here and there, the roadway is interrupted by roots that snake across the surface, creating natural speed bumps that demand cautious navigation.
It is night, about 79F(26C) degrees, Ankle high mist flows through the area. There is a waxing gibbous moon.
"Oh great, it's Sun Human," Autumn mutters, waking up as she walks outside with a dagger in her hand. "And coming from that tower too."
Autumn says "But hello, I guess."
"Well, this dagger is indeed cursed, but I'm not stabbing people with it," Autumn replies with a shake of her head. "Although I must admit, it would be better than having Scions- And there's one."
Taking a look at Fayad's gauntlet, Autumn lets out a huff. "Just because you got claws doesn't mean you're on high horse. You are lucky I am still Orderlite." Turning to Emmanuel, she grips the dagger and replies with, "Not confused. I know my ways."
Fayad's eyes narrow. "Like I ever wanted any of this," he mutters, glancing down at his encased left hand.
"..Are you sure?" Emmanuel queries of Autumn as he peers at the many, many symbols she appears to be wearing, "Are you belonging to every group in town, mon amie?" He wonders of her, eyebrows raised in mild surprise as he glances back toward her, "And are you having a name? It is good to be knowing who is judging us, oui?"
The whole room shakes.
"I am Autumn Lynx from Hell, and none of what Fayad is suffering would have happened if he never made pact with Gonthorian in first place," Autumn tells someone, glancing at a frog man in the woods before she looks down at the cursed dagger. Chanting under her breath, the bracelet on the left hand begins to glow red-orange while she clenches the dagger in her other.
"There is something here, hm?" Emmanuel suggests as he notices the frog man wandering about, and cants his head to the side, as if listening for an unseen persons footfalls. Then the ground is shaking, and that concern is abandoned for the time being. "Woah!"
"I am Autumn Lynx from Hell, and none of what Fayad is suffering would have happened if he never made pact with Gonthorian in first place," Autumn tells Emmanuel, glancing at a frog man in the woods before she looks down at the cursed dagger. Chanting under her breath, the bracelet on the left hand begins to glow red-orange while she clenches the dagger in her other until she staggers from the quake.
Fayad stumbles, but his low center of gravity thanks to being so damn short lets him recover quicker than most. He reaches out with his claw, tugging upon the air itself as it begins to glow orange-red with heat, plucking likewise upon the strands of arcana emanating from the object in a sweat-inspiring attempt to prevent further cursed manifestations. "Wouldn't that have been nice," he grumbles.
"I should've been knowin-" Emmanuel starts to say, before yet more shaking interrupts his thoughts. Really, he should've known. The many symbols gives her away. He staggers this way and that, likely bumping into poor Fayad as he regains his balance, "No sympathy for the unfortuante, hm? From Hell indeed." The man comments back to Autumn wryly then.
"Well, unfortunate fools with no common sense, to be exact," Autumn speaks towards Emmanuel, getting back to her feet before she waves her glowing left hand in the air. "At least other new Scion isn't around. Would have broke my focus from having to restrain myself."
An arc of lightning blasts out of the artifact to strike Emmanuel, sending him flying.
"..You are a-" Whatever assessment Emmanuel was going to make of Autumn is interrupted by the sudden blast of lightning produced by the cursed dagger. It flings from her hands, and hits Emmanuel square in the chest, throwing him back and onto the ground, where his legs kick up and then fall flat. "..Owww." The man complains through a wince, trying to catch his breath anew, "You were doing that on purpose!" He accuses of dagger and Autumn both.
Fayad's eyes widen with naked concern for Emmanuel, his attention lapsing as his claw falls down and he takes a few steps towards Emmanuel. "Hey, are you oka-", and then he's cut off by Emmanuel yelling at Autumn. "Yeah, he's fine," he murmurs, turning his head again to focus on the dagger.
"Cursed stuff always does that," Autumn says, keeping her hazel gaze towards the dagger as her glow envelops it. "I don't do lightning. Only fire."
"What.. a lucky excuse, non?" Emmanuel coughs back up to Autumn as he recollects himself, and pushes up to his feet unsteadily. "I am not fine," The man half-pouts back to Fayad as he dusts himself off. "I am almost wondering why we are helping, hm? She would not be sharing the reward with us, and she has been rather /mean/ to you." He points out aside to Fayad.
For several seconds the room grows painfully cold.
Fayad retorts, "Because it's right outside my house," but his demeanor visibly changes at that notion, brows furrowed.
"Well, I do plan to sell this at market to gain resources for those I serve," Autumn mutters, her scantily-clad body shivering with the sudden cold. "And my cult is in need of support. Plus it was inside my house which is why I'm out here."
"There was a lot of 'I' in that sentence, and no 'we'." Emmanuel observes with a shivering shake of the head, before slinking closer toward Fayad for warmth. "Not even an offer to donate something to our people for our efforts, hm? I am thinking that we leave."
All metal objects in the room are suddenly tugged violently towards the artifact.
Fayad heats himself with his arcane power, his pendant glowing with the strength of his mancing as he maintains burning away the curse, shrivelling it in on itself. "I'm thinking differently," he mutters. "I've been curious since the dragon stopped me. How about we duel for it?", he calls over to Autumn. "A wizard's duel. You, me, our spirits. No one gets hurt but it's decided fairly- ah, fuck!", he curses, as his coat is pulled towards the artifact from what must be metal inside - oddly, the gauntlet on his hand doesn't budge at all.
"Nah, Ifrit would easily beat your minion," Autumn muses until she finds her jewelry pulled towards the dagger, along with her chest while her skirt moves a bit. With a gesture of her left hand, her red-orange energy surrounds the dagger, clashing against its cursed magic.
"I knew that would be her answer, hm? Just a non." Emmanuel shares with Fayad even as he struggles to keep all the various bits of metal in his pockets secured. That doesn't stop a keychain from flying across the space, and striking Autumn.
Autumn says "Ow! "
Fayad grits his teeth even as his talons work away at the last of the magic, continuing to assist Autumn. "I'm so tired of everyone treating me like a nothing," he mutters, mostly to himself, in a dark tone. "One day...one day...", he consoles himself.
With a final burst of power the curse on a bone dagger is broken.
Novel says "Hey boss I got another cursed item here."
Novel says "Can you rustle some fucks up for it."
