In Rosie's Diner
Filled with nostalgia, this diner is a step into the past - to a time of swing and jive, and one would claim, simpler times. The walls are cream toned, letting the pink and turquoise neon striping along the ceiling give the space more vibrant coloring. Pieces of kitsch and memorabilia are posted here and there, providing character and retro style.
Behind the counter, cooks work the main line, allowing customers to watch as their meals are prepped. A soda fountain and a glass domed freezer is set away from the heat, where the soda jerk creates speciality floats, sundaes, malts and shakes.
Meanwhile, waitresses on roller skates gracefully take orders, their uniforms chock full of bling.
It is night, about 58F(14C) degrees, and the sky is covered by dark grey stormclouds. There is a waxing gibbous moon.
Novel remarks easily with a smile to Tabitha, Chelsea, and Berlin, easily stating, "Hey, you three, how's it-" And then there's a sudden, subtle flash, a glimmering, and there's a silver bracelet clamping itself around his wrist. He looks down at it. "Goooood DAMMIT." He swears.
Chelsea hears the door open, looking over she offers a smile to Novel, "Hi Novel," She notices his sudden outburst, "Are you ok?" She asks, a slight bit of concern in her voice.
"Yeah, yeah," Novel mumbles, fingering the thing on his wrist, and shaking it a few times as if he's trying to get off a particularly tenacious slug - something sticky you don't want to touch with the rest of you. "I need to borrow Tabitha and Berlin for a moment if you two aren't too busy. You can come along too I guess but it's gonna get fucking weird."
Chelsea frowns, "I think I can handle weird,"
Novel glances between Berlin and Chelsea and offers a little shrug, walking back towards the door and then his arm yanks backwards in place like it's nailed to the sky. "Oh for fuck's-"
Tabitha glances aside to Berlin. "you could just ignore her."
Chelsea looks at Novel's arm suddenly jerking, "What the hell is going on with your arm?"
Berlin winces in sympathy as Novel's arm bends that way.
Novel slooowly walks himself back to where the bracelet's in the air, and then sort of laughs nervously and raises his hands for the crowd. "Awright! Now, ladies and gentleman, enjoy the stupendous act and magical trickery of... uh..." He gives Berlin a helpless look as the bracelet trembles in a public place, mouthing to the man 'name?'
An arc of lightning blasts out of the artifact to strike Berlin, sending him flying.
Tabitha sighs: and starts to stand up to walk over to Novel, "You really are Perry reckless about stuff and people have the audacity to say that about me..." There is a wince with the way his arm moves, " ooooh"
Chelsea looks absolutely shocked at what she just witnessed, but she rushes over to Berlin to see if he's hurt. And here she thought she could handle weird, but to her, this is on a whole other level than what she's ever experienced.
Berlin is about to answer Novel, but is suddenly sent flying. he tumbles out of his booth, landing in a sprawl on the floor. Luckily for him, he has very fast reflexe, and manages to turn the tumble into a roll so he isn't much hurt; just very embarrassed.
Tabitha is also on her way to help Berlin over Novel, letting the man flounder. "are you okay?"
Novel clears his throat, then carefully claps, trying not to move the bracelet too much as he continues, his forehead beading with sweat while the whole crowd of diners just sort of stare. "AHEM. YES." He does his best, shooting Tabitha a panicked look. "I, THE MAGICIAN OF... FAIRYTALES will now, with the help of my THREE assistants, to uncurse such a terrible, wicked thing. You are ALL in danger. But behold! We have you safe!" He does his best to ham it up, playing it off like it's some sort of game while his teeth click nervously. "Never fear! My assistant ... BOSTON is fine."
Berlin reaches to a booth, using it to pull himself up. "Think the chair broke," he mutters lamely, "Aparently I really need to get onto a diet or something."
Chelsea extends a hand to Berlin to try and help him up, "What the hell was that?" She asks, clearly confused at what is happening right now.
Tabitha slaps her forehead lightly at the theatrics.
An arc of lightning blasts out of the artifact to strike Tabitha, sending her flying.
"Whoops! Ah-heh, heh, just a little sparkylittleshitknockthatoff," Novel hisses quietly at the thing across his wrist, his other hand slapping to clasp over it as if to restrain it instead of putting it on display, all his teeth out there for people to see. "Ah! ..Cheesey, my lovely assistant!" He clearly addresses Chelsea. "Come over and give me a hand with this."
And then lightening strikes Tabitha. the redhead stumbles back even after she's been forced back. The hairs on her arms rise. Rhe look she shoot's Novel is not one of panic.
Now it is Berlin's turn to rush to Tabitha's aid. He kneels down at her side, looking concernedly down at the redhead. "Are you alright?"
Berlin clearly stood at her side, not kneeling, since she didn't fall over.
Chelsea looks over to Novel and moves to make an attempt to help him, "What do you need me to do?" She whispers to him, trying to mess up his act.
Novel leans over to Chelsea, his voice coming out as a hiss as he leans over to her. Meanwhile, his smile, painfully rictus and forced as he animates it towards the crowd, doing his best to provide it. Some people are going along with it, cheering and laughing, though some are wincing and giving 'oohs'.
The whole room shakes.
Berlin catches the back of a booth with one hand, the other reaching to steady Tabitha as the room shakes.
Novel then, abruptly, slips, pinwheeling his arms and falling back and scrambling, a whole show - but he scrambles swiftly and then, a roll, a tumble, across the floor, as he bounces to his feet. "Tadah! The magical miracles of Fairytales, but be warned," An ominous look. Holding out his wrist. "For even THIS small item can spell... YOUR DOOM."
Chelsea listens, but stumbles a bit as the room shakes. Trying to be as non-chalant as she can be, she casually waves to the diner crowd as she moves to follow Novel's instructions, looking for the clasp. She reaches over and makes an attempt to unwind it as instructed.
A section of Novel's clothing catches fire.
Novel continues, face deeply flushed, "BOSTON and ... CAT have both borne the brunt of the wicked thing's... worst attacks! Watch in wonder as my magical assistant, Cheese, now begins the process of DISARMING such a terrible thing. NEVER FEAR, they all have the bravery of a MILLION LIONS, and you are well in h-"
Catching herself on the back of a booth, Tabitha finally manages to get herself upright. She might be curious like a cat, but being able to land on her feet, she is not. And who knows exactly how many lives she's already used up. "Behold the cursed bracelet of the fairy princess," she points at herself now. "Stolen by this nefarious and dare I say, oafish louse." She turns to the people who are watching, but not without sending a glare to Novel. "To rid this place of the curse he's just bestowed on us, chant with me."
Berlin acts as Tabitha's hype man, starting the chant she leads, going around the room to encourage other people to chant with her.
Novel leans right into Tabitha's words by yelping, suddenly, rapidly patting himself down as he does his best to extinguisher the fire. "Curse you, Cat, for calling me out before these people!" He leans right into it, dramatic, raising a singed and sooty hand to his leather jacket - leaving an open mark upon his breast. "And I'm such a handsome devil!" A wicked leer, hamming up with a thug he his, scowling at the crowd and generally hamming up Tabitha's and Berlin's act further. A crowd that is entranced with the man and the wicked artifact. "I only did a LITTLE bit of theft. A tiny BIT of borrowing!"
"Disarming alone will not save him." Tabitha says. "People who do not understand the special nature of jewelry and magic should not be messing with it, no?" She addresses this to the crowd. "Now... close your eyes for me, and repeat with me. "Titiana, I call to thee!" Lance has walked in on a peculiar event in Rosie's, indeed."

"Now... close your eyes for me, and repeat with me. Titiana, I call to thee!" Lance has walked in on a peculiar event in Rosie's, indeed.
Lance casually ambles into the diner, probably with a mind towards getting some late night food, and certainly not anything like a magical, mystical invocation. The sudden pouring rain coincidentally coming down at the precise moment Tabitha calls out to Titania (in old English, no less) has him slooowwwly swiveling his gaze over in her direction. He quite shamelessly rubbernecks at whatever's going on.
Chelsea takes the queue from Tabitha and chants with her, "Titiana, I call to thee!" Trying her best to look clam, she's really hoping this is going to work...
With a final burst of power the curse on a silver bracelet is broken.
Tabitha starts to do her own chant, low and under her breath. Her eyes close and the air stirs with that electricity again, that everyone in the diner had felt earlier, which had then made the room quake. It is not Titiana she calls to, even if the crowd has somehow bought into this act. She turns to Novel and shakes her head, pointing her finger accusatory at him. "You reap what you sow. The curse courses through you, and it will end with you. But this is your lesson, when you steal from a Queen."
Berlin goes over to where a little girl is cowering in her booth. "Shhhh," he soothes her, crouching down in front of her chair, "Look," he says, pointing over toward Tabitha, "She's a faerie queen. You know a faerie queen would never hurt anyone. Don't you wanna help her defeat the evil thief who stole her favorite bracelet?"
