Ediths Ghost Banishing 250218
On a bitterly cold night in Arkwright Cemetery, amidst a scene of spectral warfare, a small group led by Edith sets out to banish the ghosts causing chaos. With the aid of her companions - William, Takeshi, and Maria - Edith begins her intricate ritual, drawing upon ancient symbols and her own blood to weave a spell of banishment. The group faces numerous challenges from the ghostly armies, including violent shockwaves, enveloping frost, and ethereal vines attempting to ensnare them. Throughout the ordeal, Takeshi's bravery stands out as he intercepts flying debris and combats the supernatural threats with his swordsmanship, while Maria calls upon her knowledge of rituals to support Edith's efforts, despite suffering from the harsh conditions and attacks from the ghosts.
As the ritual nears its completion, the intensity of the ghostly attacks increases, with spectral soldiers and sorcerers unleashing powerful arcane assaults. Despite the adversity, the group holds steady, with Edith's expertise in arcane rituals guiding them. Takeshi's determination and physical prowess keep the surrounding threats at bay, even as he takes the brunt of a shockwave to protect Edith. Eventually, Edith's ritual takes effect, the complex runes and symbols glowing with crimson light as the ghostly armies begin to falter and retreat back into the earth from whence they came. In the end, the cemetery is restored to its usual, eerie calm, thanks to the courageous and determined efforts of Edith and her companions, who each played a crucial role in the banishment of the ghosts.

On the Sprawling Hillside of Arkwright Cemetery
It is night, about -1F(-18C) degrees, and there are a few dark grey stormclouds in the sky. There is a waning gibbous moon.
An eerie stillness settles over the graveyard, the fog thickening like an otherworldly veil. The ground trembles, and two ghostly armies surge forth, locked in a battle that defies time. One side, draped in ethereal armor, charges with spectral weapons, while the other hurls crackling bolts of elemental magic. The air is alight with haunting energy as the spirits, long dead, resume their eternal battle, heedless of the living who are caught in their spectral warpath.
William nods his head to Edith as he's greeted "Hey" before giving a tiny wave to Takeshi and Maria, tilting his head to look at the rising armies before sighing slightly "Oh, these guys... At least these one aren't too focused on stopping any ritualling..."
Maria lets out a deep sigh. "I know a ritual or two that could help us banish those ghosts, but I need time to cast it, Merlin be damned- I never learned to invoke things as fast as he did." She muses out to Edith and Takeshi, nodding over to William as he enters.
A towering, spectral knight swings his sword at a ghostly conjurer, cutting the arcanist in half and continuing onwards to collide against a gravestone. The collision smashes the gravestone apart, sending shards flying all around dangerously.
"How interesting." Edith notes as the spirits begin to rise. "Little to do but keep yourselves safe I believe." the blond informs. "Thank you, young man." she tells Takeshi. Kneeling, the woman produces a hidden blade-- An arcane focus, and rolling up her sleeve, she slices into her own flesh. Palm up, she waits for the tepid, sluggish blood to trickle down to pool in her palm. "Do distractand remain safe." she tells William, Takeshi and Maria.
Takeshi grins and waves as William enters "Hey man!" He calls out to him, seemingly glad to see the guy before looking over to the cemetery as the two armies rise up out of the graves! He doesn't charge straight in this time, instead taking a defensive stance around Edith, sitting down into a low stance as he holds his ridiculous 5ft long Nodachi at his waist, still sheathed, his hand hovering over the handle as his expression locks in!
A gravestone shatters and shards are sent flying towards them! But, Takeshi is there to intercept! His hand moves to the handle of his blade, to the normal eye it would look like he had drawn the blade only an inch before returning it it's scabbard. Each and everyone of the shards flying towards Edith and Takeshi are shattered midair as if struck by something! Takeshi takes on a cocky expression "Jackpot."
"I can do that..." William simply responds to Edith, his arms coming in front of his face to cover himself from the incoming shards, simply letting them sink into the discovered flesh rather than his face, before telling Takeshi "Hey..." in response to his greeting. Then lowering his arms and starting to painfully take out the rock shards as he moves towards a bigger gravestone, looking to use it as cover, and letting out a couple little "Ow"s
Maria claps her hands together, starting to recite prayers in latin as the back of her head shines a faint golden light, akin to halo depicted in the saints, gathering the energy within herself as she goes on with the ritual.
"Rituals are somewhat easy. I have had over a hundred years of practice." As the knight smashes past the headstone, the blond checks on her cut. Supremely unbothered by the chaos around her, Edith uses a finger to inscribe a circle upon the headstone that Takeshi shoved over for her. To the east, the ankh, the west the scales, the north the hanged man and the south, the tines. "An army takes time always."
Takeshi looks over his shoulder as he realizes that the other three were focusing on the ritualistic side of this. He didn't really understand that but he got the impression it was something important. He nods his head twice to himself as he realizes the distractions were all on him now! He jogs over to a location he can attempt to cover the whole team from as he drops into his lower stance again, holding his sheathed Nodachi as his hip once more!
As the ground quakes with the stomp of spectral soldiers, a coven of phantom witches weaves spells that entangle the giants in thorny vines. The living are ensnared as well, ghostly vines tearing through the earth to wrap around their limbs, attempting to drag them down.
"Bother." Edith complains. As shards fly, Edith makes a gesture. Bleading from every orifice, a second version of her appears; Crimson and clawed, it takes up protection detail, bodyguarding her as first a line, then another and another join the circle, point to point at the edging. There's then a second line upon a line, a triscalion star, six-pointed, formed of triangles.
Takeshi has his feet ensnared! Focusing on the battle in front of him, the imperceptive teen has his ankles wrapped up by thorns as he starts to get dug down into the earth! He growls in annoyance before he kicks his knees up to his chest, /tearing/ his legs out of the thorns in one explosive movement, leaving his shins and ankles torn and bloody as he falls to his ass upon landing, rolling about on the ground and kicking his legs in the air in pain! He glances over at Edith, as he rolls on the floor, raising his eyebrow at the sixpointed star made of traingles "Eh? You Jewish?"
Edith doesn't respond to the vines. Her blood clone is used to remove them from her. A finger dips once more into her own blood, and methodically, the blond insets a rune in the center of the circle around the star. Her blade is used for exacting line work, and those noticing would see that the dagger itself is notched like a ruler, and Edith is using it to mathamatically create the ritual banishment. So used to doing this however, Edith glances over to note Maria's prayers, how Takeshi fights, and William's distractions with professional interest.
Maria continues to recite the prayer, in spite of the chaos that is surrounding them. Ghostly vines find and surround her, doing damage as the thorns lodge themselves in her inner thigh as well as shoulder, one quickly looking to wrap around her neck as well, but she seemed to be unbothered as the vines soon find themselves withering from the heat, that she radiates. Several lines and figures drawn from her life energy that's quickly escaping her. The dove ascending, the dove descending. The Lamb of God, the Shepherd's staff - invoking the power within the symbols to assist her in guiding the souls back to afterlife.
William glances around for a moment as he watches the thorny vines approaching, already used to this kind of thing, his eyes settle on Takeshi, who has a blade, and with a bit of magic here and there, the plants directed towards William simply go the other man's way, surely he would be able to deal with them, having something to actually cut them, before he comments "Can people stop asking that every time they see the six pointed star? We use it a lot in rituals, alright? It's not just jewish... The jewish most likely used it for the same reason" He says, standing still while removing the last couple shards from his arms, sighing a bit, quite literally standing unbothered in the middle of the chaos
The air thickens with an unnatural fog as ghostly archers let loose a volley of arrows. The projectiles are swept away by a whirlwind conjured by spectral windcallers, and the gust of wind sends everyone alive flying against tombstones with bone-jarring force.
Takeshi looks over towards William as he starts to (attempt) to educate him on ritual and religious history. Though, he quickly gets distracted by the thorns racing towards him, hopping back before doing the flashy sword maneuver he'd done before, drawing and re sheathing his blade so fast it was a blur as the thorns fall apart, cut in seemingly a dozen different places!
"Eh?" He asks William "You not jewish?" He asks the man, seemingly being just as surprised at the idea of William not being jewish as he was at the idea of Edith being so! The conversation is cut short however, as Takeshi has his side slammed into like a gust of wind like it was a freight train, the slender 5'6 dude getting launched through the air with a comically loud yell that seemed to get quieter the further into the horizon he flew!
But the gusts of wind do get William, that's not something some magic or distraction is really going to save him from. Clashing against the same tombstone he used not too long ago for cover with a loud noise, and letting out a groan of complaint at the impact. He remains pressed against it for as long as the pressure of the air continues, and only when it's over he slowly stands back up, slightly crooked forward, probably feeling the pain from the impact, and taking his time to strengthen himself - Even as the cracking of his back might have made it sound poorly, his position seems to be adjusting gradually, and the tiny wounds that the rock shards from before might have left in his arms are slightly closing. He sighs a bit before telling Takeshi "No, I am not jewish... My family is british and has been for hundreds and thousands of years even..."
As spectral arrows fly, Edith speaks a single gutteral word and from the earth, skeletal arms burst forth. Grasping the archers, their shots are sent wild, narrowly missing Takeshi, William and Maria. "I am not jewish." Edith tells Takeshi. "The six pointed star is more practicality than the five. Threes upon threes. Arcane numbers." She finishes the rune now, one-handed, and her blood clone finishes removing the vines around her.
Maria was unfortunately painfully average when it came to physical characteristics, if a lot better than most - she is sent FLYING, but able to move herself just in time so that she doesn't hit tombstone with her back, instead, her shoulder takes brunt of the blow- becoming dislocated, her expression full of pain, biting onto her lips as she continued to speak the prayers, recovering from the blow with remarkable pain tolerance and endurance.
As a battalion of armored specters marches forth, a group of wraith-like sorcerers unleashes a storm of arcane missiles, shattering the ghostly shields; the resulting shockwave threatens to make ears bleed, if someone gets caught without cover.
Takeshi was out of the fight for a solid 20 seconds! He'd be spotted desperately sprinting his way back into the cemetery, his Nodachi's handle clattering against the sheath as he did so "Hold on!" He shouts to the other three "I coming! Hero arriving!" He calls out, as it trying to assure them that they would be safe!
He manages to miss the second shockwave simply by not being present, arriving back to the battlefield before immediately folding over with his hands to his knees, breathing heavy. "Give me ..." He wheezes out "Give me a moment guys ..."
And just like that, William finds his ears dripping with little trails of blood, the already sensitive and acute senses of the man deeply overwhelmed by the shockwave - Seemingly catching him more painfully than the impact of the cuts would have before, he goes down to the ground while clutching at both of his ears
As those spectral sorcerers launch their attack, Edith's blood clone throws itself atop Edith. If she had blood left in her body, she likely would blead, though with the animated puppet consisting of it all, all that happens is that Edith is shoved down, protected but annoyed. Gaze flicking to Maria, Edith tells her, still unnaturally calm, "I shall fix that for you once we conclude." Her gaze sweeps to Takeshi and William, checking on them, too as she plucks up a clump of grave dirt. Placing it into her blooded palm, she mixes blood with soil, condencing it into a ball. "We have time before I introduce the catalist."
A group of ethereal berserkers charge, only to be met by a rain of icy shards summoned by frost mancers. The temperature plummets, and living breath freezes in the air, while ice forms treacherous patches beneath the feet, threatening to send everyone sprawling upon the ground.
William might have missed a couple things
Maria misses the shockwave by quickly ducking behind the tombstone which nearly shattered her shoulder with trained reflexes, and charging back to her ritual site before it completely diminishes, keeping the energy flowing into it. "I'll be fine." She speaks for once. "Worry about the others first." She speaks through the pain, looking back to William however, and seeing him on the ground- she can't help herself, and so she'd charge through to help him, abandoning her ritual proper, holding onto the man as the ice beneath them starts to form.
Takeshi(A group of ethereal berserkers charge, only to be met by a rain of icy shards summoned by frost mancers. The temperature plummets, and living breath freezes in the air, while ice forms treacherous patches beneath the feet, threatening to send everyone sprawling upon the ground.)
William seems to stand up as soon as his ears stop buzzing and hurting, taking his time and looking for a moment at Maria, he gives a couple nods to confirm he's alright, as alright as someone can be in his condition, his hearing still not back to full, he slowly straightens himself once more, the cold - Well, seemingly not disturbing him too much, in fact, seeming to help him get his bearing once more, mouthing a bit more loudly than he probably should, given his partial lack of hearing right now "Is everyone alright after that?"
The berserkers charge, the frost mancers launch their attacks and the air chills. Edith continues to mix blood with earth one-handedly. "It will be time soon." Edith assures Maria, William and Takeshi. Her attention flicks to those of the group who are bleading, though unlike Maria, William and Takeshi, there is no release of frozen, cloud-like breath from Edith's lips. She doesn't even appear to notice the change in temperature until she sees the frost, her blood clone disbursing and sinking back into her body.
Takeshi glances between Maria and William as they both go down, a shudder running up his spine as he starts to realize he might be in deeper than he thought! Seeing Maria tending to William, he falls into formation with Edith, sprinting his way over to her as the ice sheets begin to form before pulling his knees to his chest to hop up into the air before they can affect his ability to base himself!
Whilst mid-jump, he squints his eyes at the ice sheets starting to form over Edith's ritual circle, glowering he grips the handle of his blade as a storm of silver arcs start to flurry out from him, slamming into the ground all around Edith They seem to hit everywhere except her as he shatters the ice apart, falling to the ground and instantly slamming down to his side quite painfully as if he'd been too focused on aiming his slices that he'd not taken into acount how he was going to land!
"I okay!" Takeshi calls out to William in a pained voice from the ground, trying to get to his feet and instantly slipping back down to the ground, giving the man a thumbs up from there
As a battalion of armored specters marches forth, a group of wraith-like sorcerers unleashes a storm of arcane missiles, shattering the ghostly shields; the resulting shockwave threatens to make ears bleed, if someone gets caught without cover.
"Time." Edith states. The soldiers clash again and Takeshi drops beside her. The ice smashes and Takeshi gets an approving nod. "Fine." the blond calls over to William, then the earth is held over the rune at the center of Edith's circle. It falls slowly, but upon impact, the lines circle and runes start to glow with a crimson incandescence. Then, most heroically, she drops down, letting Takeshi take thr brunt of the shockwave, the banishment ritual left now to empower and perpetuate itself.
And as another shockwave is incoming, it doesn't seem to land the same way on William, he braces himself once more for the same result though this time, maybe he's luck saves him, and he barely gets any feeling of pain in his ears, maybe just a slightly annoying buzz - But as it happens with creatures of luck and fate, what is spared for one, has to come from another, and as the man has good luck, the scales are evened by those around him, who seem to be even more affected by the incoming shockwave
Maria holds onto William as the ice around them strengthens, making sure to keep her body warm, she'd look back to Edith, her expression enigmatic, still. Even so, she does her best to tend to the William, looking back over to Takeshi with a concerned expression- instead, through the sheer fortune, or misfortune on her part. She missess the shockwave, and is thus promptly sent onto the ground, her ears bleeding as she covers them, this time unable to hide her pain as she whimpers.
Takeshi can't get to his feet, but rolls to his stomach as he pulls his sword out of it's sheath, bringing it high in the air (As high as he can whilst on his stomach) and slamming it into the ground just before the shockwave hits! He winces hard but hangs on, his body flapping in the wind like a flag as the wind rushes past! His ears bleed ... But only for a moment, the man shaking his head as he seems to will them into recovery in a split second, looking over his shoulder at Edith as he desperately holds onto his sword embedded in the ground "HOW MUCH LONGER?!" He tries to shout over the wind back at her!
A sudden gust of wind sweeps through the graveyard, scattering the remnants of battle - ashes, shattered stones, and burned foliage - until all that's left is an unsettling calm. The ghostly combatants begin to falter, their spectral forms flickering like dying embers. One by one, they retreat into the earth, their energy spent, until the graveyard is once again quiet.
