At The sidewalk-adjacent Hungry Maw of SLUDGEFUKK
Like a creeping, cancerous growth, this particular food stop seems to have bulged out of the grimy, gritty wall of SLUDGEFUKK itself between ragged wall and opening. A patchwork canopy twists and stretches over the sidewalk, creating a chaotic yet oddly inviting shelter. The opening in the wall gapes as a hungry maw, spilling smoke and heat into the air from the jutting cooking cooking and frying and smoking stations acting as teeth. The tantalizing scents of sizzling noodles, rich broths, and fiery spices mingle with the lively hum of the street and noisy crowd.
It is afternoon, about 36F(2C) degrees, and there are a few dark grey stormclouds in the sky.
Illyana gestures to Sae-byeok as though this explained everything.
Illyana reaches into a pocket pulling out a bone bracelet. "Fucking..."
Sae-byeok lets a retort says itself as she rounds her eyes and makes an obvious gyration of her head.
Novel glances over at Illyana. "Huh. I guess we should head to the basement to deal with tha-"
Juliet giggles softly at the banter, looking satisfied with the explanation.
Holding up the bracelet, Illyana tells Novel, "Fucking her is how she got in this situation."
Novel grunts back at Illyana, settling on the tried and true, "Fuck you too. Guess I need to wrap it the fuck up more often. Or just go in for a vasectomy."
Illyana says "The latter is what Sams-- Fuck."
Illyana backtracks. "That's what my X did."
Sae-byeok glances around at all of metal.
Illyana says "Be subtle. It's a chalenge."
Sae-byeok walks over to Juliet and looks around, then prods her away from the stool. "You don't want metal behind you. It might fly at that thing."
"Well, shit like this happens. Generally I just fucking... I don't know... make it into a show. Entertain some fuckers so nobody gets too excited about it. There was the last time where I presented myself as a villain. And just fucking - whatever." Novel waves it off. "Well, it sounds like your Ex was a mistake, Yana, so I'm not doing anything that he did so fuck that I guess."
So saying, Illyana produces an insidious flame on a fingertip.
Juliet looks down at her buzzing phone and shifts around with a nod to Sae-byeok. "Good thing my phone is mostly plastic."
Illyana says "Metal's fine."
Illyana says "What knife?"
Juliet looks around and watches the decursing with quiet curiosity, like she'd break something if she interfered even a little.
The artifact emits a flash of blinding light.
As the artifact produces a flash of blinding light, Illyana points at Novel. "Hey, no flash."
Sae-byeok jogs into the kitchen and begins to get into an argument with a local, filling a pot with water from the tap before she brings it over. She returns and dumps it on the ground. She draws the straight line of eis with her index finger through the air with a cold loop of frost, then points it towards the ice, which begins to freeze. She kneels over the puddle, grimacing as she hikes up her dress above her knees.
Novel turns around at Illyana's words looking directly at at the call - what a time to peel off his sunglasses as he gets flashbanged. "OW! Fuck yoooou Enriys!" He produces in frustration, blinking and squinting and rubbing the eyes. He seems to remember where he is, giving the crowd a glance. "Who the fuck uses flash photography anymore?! Fucking ancient-ass broken-ass artifacts that belong in an antique shop and set on goddamn fire."
"I don't know why you keep doing that when I gave you a perfectly slick free way to try magic." Illyana sighs at Sae-byeok. "But someone decided to break it. That cost eighty seven dollars. And it worked."
Juliet blinks slowly as she watches everything unfolding with very little comprehension, hands tucked in her coat pockets.
"Right?" Illyana agrees with Novel. "This is exactly why this place is a shithole."
"No, it's a shithole because of all the drugs and violence, get it fucking RIGHT," Novel counters to Illyana, setting a hand on his hip. "This isn't a fucking antique shop."
An arc of lightning blasts out of the artifact to strike Illyana, sending her flying.
"Aff... aff-airt?" Sae-byeok begins to butcher in latin, "Uh... ex...ex-sir...ex-soor... ex-surr-gat... weer-toos... Dee-eye." The circle around her forms into just three concentric circles as the words write out between the second and third.
"It was terrible. I hated it. Make me feel like shit- you just want me to suffer in a way that- AAH!"
Sae-byeok yelps back at the lightning, faintly deafened.
Juliet takes a few steps back at the arc of lightning and look around for something to hide behind. "Uh... is this OK to do... outside?"
"No." Illyana shoots back to Novel. "They're cleaner." Then, she's sent flying through the wall into the kitchen, the bracelet dropping to the floor. Stepping back out, completely unharmed though smoking, she tells Sae-byeok and Juliet, "It might not be an antique shop, but the electrics are on the fucking frizz." To Novel, she adds, "The hole in the wall was always there."
"See? Also that," Novel gestures at the flying Illyana. "I guess someone thought it was funny to mess with the wiring again. At least it wasn't fucking explosives again - TOMMY!" He calls out over the crowd. "GO FUCKING CHECK THE CIRCUIT BREAKER WHILE I LOOK AROUND HERE!" Apparently, random electrical shocks with all the metal and improperly-done wiring is not a surprising thing as he gives Illyana a strange look before waving it off. "Yeah, yeah, sure it was. I'll get the stuff outta the basement to plaster it back up again."
Sae-byeok draws her quadrants with a freezing trail in the middle of the circle. "NO!" she responds, labeling from top left to bottom right, "Illyana Howelette, Custodia, Purgo, Hypothermia."
Sae-byeok's bracelet, the metal one, beams a bright blue as she freezes the water into the shape.
Picking up the artifact once more, Illyana brushes herself down. Somehow, insufferably, she is disgustingly clean. "You loved it." Illyana tells Sae-byeok. "Tell me it didn't feel amazing."
Novel remarks to Juliet, "There's no-where safe to do this."
"But you could." Illyana suggests. "Just like I could point at any random person and eat them."
Growing air pressure makes your ear's pop uncomfortably and deadens all sound.
The end of Illyana's sentence is lost, so though unheard by Novel, Juliet and Sae-byeok, Illyana does the only thing a deaffened person should; Raises her voice to a bellow to add, letting anyone on the street hear it, "You know vibrater in the cemetery was great feeling, Sae."
Juliet finally asks Novel, "What did it do, anyways, that it needed to be... dealt with so urgently?"
Sae-byeok's shoulders rise around her head, and she tries to force out a yawn through the air pressure. She responds to the warble from Illyana's direction with an irritated affectation.
"YOU SUCK!"
"Cant hea--" Illyana begins, before sound returns.
Novel responds to Juliet after he pulls his head out of the new hole in the wall, shouting back to Juliet, "WHAT!?" Unfortunately, now the crowd is yelling, so nobody can hear shit. He shoves someone. A brawl starts. There's nothing surprising about this in Sludgefukk, just that it normally happens inside where the food isn't.
Sae-byeok begins to shiver as she draws eis across her bracelet, and it glows. The air hisses and freezes to her, spider webbing languidly about her dress and jacket as it begins to encapsulate her.
There's an active brawl, a ritual that Sae-byeok stands inside, and maybe two people holding up a tarp to block the street.
Juliet calls back to Novel with a reciprocating "HUH?" looking massively confused and slinking her head down.
For several seconds the room grows painfully hot.
"Agh- FUCK!" Sae-byeok screams as the room heats up and ruins her transference of hypothermia. She scratches with a nail at her written word, and takes out the bowie knife from her handbag.
Not responding to the spike of heat; Why should she, she produces more violent flaming outbursts, Illyana waves at Savannah. As Sae-byeok continues to draw her circle, Illyana holds out a bone bracelet over the working, her other hand moving back to backhand one of the brawling patrons. "It was Paul." she tells the man who turns. "I saw him." which only serves to deepen the brawl, thus further obscuring the casting.
Sae-byeok proceeds to place her hand in the middle of the circle and drive the blade through it. Illyana Howelette, Custodia, Purgo, Cruor the letters change as blood shoots through the circle of melting ice and retraces it as she repeats; "In nomine Domini, qui tenebras dissipat et lumen veritatis affert, exsurgat virtus Dei ad solvendam hanc maledictionem. L-"
Now the grass is on fire. Novel casually punches someone in the face on the way by as the man behind the counter yelps as every metal surface becomes heated, as he delivers a horrific series of curses and insults in rapid Vietnamese and then there the owner is again, snatching a fire extinguisher back behind the counter. Fights is one thing, but fires get out of hand pretty quickly. He cranks it open and then indiscriminately sprays down - everything. The crowd, the fires, other people, with shockingly icy-cold cloud of material.
Sae-byeok's blood feeds the circle. Filling the cost of creation.
Savannah walks up to chaos, spotting Sae-byeok, Novel and others do everything they're doing. She stands there, confused, waving to Illyana when she is greeted and looking towards Juliet afterwards. She calls out to Novel and says, "Bad time?"
Illyana Accidentally backhands Sae-byeok as she turns, demonic strength behind it.
Sae-byeok sighs as the blood bleeds and flushes enough to fill the small impromptu ritual, running around in a twining pattern before solidifying with a flash of light.
Juliet gives Savannah a perplexed shrug, looking with some concern between Sae-byeok and Illyana.
With a final burst of power the curse on a bone bracelet is broken.
