Korinas Ghost Banishing 240804
In an eerie encounter at Arkwright Cemetery, Korina and her companions faced an onslaught of smoke demons and spectral adversaries. As the black mist, smelling distinctly of brimstone, enveloped the gravesite, transforming into menacing, horned creatures, Korina unleashed a radiant burst of light in an attempt to dispel the darkness. Amidst chaos, Elias introduced himself to Kittie, a newcomer, before swiftly moving to encircle the group in a protective barrier of salt. Meanwhile, Ash resorted to using quartz - their only source of protection - as weapons against the invading demons, illustrating resilience despite the dire circumstances. As the group struggled, a circle of hooded figures emerged, intensifying the atmosphere with their chants and suffocating embrace, prompting everyone into action.
The climactic battle saw not just physical confrontations but psychological warfare as demonic entities whispered depraved desires, attempting to break the group's will. Elias's chants summoned the spirits of nature to aid their cause while Ash, empowered by Korina's light, used glittering quartz to fend off the demonic creatures, bringing a unique blend of magic and mundane efforts to the fight. Korina, at the heart of the ritual, completed a circle of light that shone so bright it threatened to expose their supernatural struggle to the world. Despite being momentarily swayed by the dark whispers, the group, with Kittie providing support through soothing auras and Ash through their unique combat techniques, managed to hold their ground. In a display of unity and strength, they managed to disperse the demonic presences, ensuring the cemetery was once again a place of rest for the departed, marking a victory over the encroaching darkness.
(Korina's ghost banishing)
[Sat Aug 3 2024]
On the Sprawling Hillside of Arkwright Cemetery
It is afternoon, about 83F(28C) degrees,
There is the sudden smell of brimstone that fills the area, and along with a rising, black mist: smoke, coiling along the surface of the graveyard. It seems to form strange whorls and shapes, and as they draw close to %n they begin to look more and more like creatures -- horned creatures, with red eyes full of menace.
Ash claps their hands eagerly - then steps back, shocked. But, only for a moment, as they try determine that these aren't ghosts, but demons - which are totally okay.
"Oh, I hate these..." Korina says immediately, a soft hiss escaping the back of her throat almost unbidden. Immediately, she lets a flash of light erupt from her, actually useful this time around now that the black smoke has risen to cover the area, attempting to fight the mist with her light.
"Well, before we get started." Elias says, shifting his gray-blue eyes to Kittie, "I am Elias." He says, offering a hand out to her as she arrives.
Kittie trudges into view. She looks spaced out, as though focusing on something, but on finding the group, she stops with a half-wave.
Korina looks like this is news to her too. She lets out a surprised little "huh", eying Elias out of the corner of her eye, and then going back to focusing on the demons.
From the smoky mist, a circle of hooded figures seem to approach, chanting in unison. At first, they seem to be living people, but as they draw closer to Korina it becomes clear they are smoke monsters themselves. They reach out as their chants increase in volume, and it is as if they are sucking the air out of the lungs of everyone present.
Kittie offers Elias an up-nod. "Kittie." she introduces.
Ash tilts a head at Korina, questioningly. They seem unsure on how to deal with this. But, they see that she's not hyped for it, either, and so pulls sand out of their pockets. Fresh looking, wet sand... one might be curious. But, it's the only source of quartz they have. Before they can start using it, however, they start coughing, choking, as the air is pulled out of their lungs.
Kittie closes her eyes. Shifting to center her weight, the blond visibly concentrates, perhaps seeking for a sense at potential desires of the spirit to ease its passing.
With his introduction getting interrupted by the appearance of smoky mists, Elias grumbles, shaking his head, "Some are so impatient." He speaks of the spirits approaching. He reaches into a pouch on his belt, pulling out a small leather bag. He tugs at the strings keeping it closed, untying it. He moves roughly seven or eight paces away and starts pouring out a thin line of white grainy substance, which is likely salt or sugar. He keeps walking in a circle around those currently performing the ritual nearby.
Korina bristles as the hooded figures approach the group, crouching defensively, a ritual circle formed entirely of light forming upon the ground on which she stands; with her as the center, it starts to expand outwards in lines straight and curved both, slowly inching its way around to encompass the entire area. It's slow going though while it attempts to pierce through the brimstone-laden smoke, Korina's nostrils flaring in distaste.
Kittie doesn't see the figures, but she turns to them, eyes still closed. Making herself as small as possible, she seeks to not add to the ritual- She is unsure of how, but instead to keep the gathering healthy and unharmed. At the smoke though there's a grimace, a look of disgust, but still, she stalwardly remains focused, allowing the gifted to work.
A twisted figure forms out of infernal smoke, shaped like a terrible canine shape. It's a hellhound, leaping towards Korina with an awful snarl. When its mouth closes on %n, it has some phantom force, sending a vision of suffering in hellfire.
Ash grimaces, working through the attempted asphyxiation through sheer force of will, and begins to assault the demonic spirits directly. Not quite a full pun, since they are using sand, but it's there. Quartz glitters and shines, growing brighter as it responds to Korina's light, taking in her power and reflecting, refracting it - right to the spirits. Though, when the hellhound comes at Korina, Ash snarls, an expression in complete silence, and sends the iridescent sand right at it, enraged as they react immediately to protect her. Not that she *needs* it, but she seems busy, and this creature has the *gall* to attack her. Ash isn't having it!
Once his circle of salt is made, Elias steps into it, reaching to his belt to pull a bowie knife off it. He takes the blade, pressing it against his palm, drawing it across his flesh leaving a thin red line of blood welling up to the surface. He slides knife slides back into his sheath, clenching his fist to help encourage the blood to flow from the fresh wound, dripping onto the ground. He starts to whisper lowly which starts to turn into a chant, "Spirits, hear my call. Spirits, the unnatural, the cursed have escaped from Sirinia. Let me your strength, cast out this demonic soul. I offer tribute. The essence of life.. Blood."
Kittie Frowns, With the hell hound leaping, she seeks to pinpoint it, hopefully allowing Korina to act before too much damage can be done, but no expert at this, and working off of theory and guiding principles of raw, unfamiliar need, it may not be fast enough, cobbled together a plan as it is.
Korina yelps out loud, all her hair standing on end like a startled cat, as the hellhound closes its teeth around her leg. Her claw-tipped fingers swipe through it - right through, distorting the canine form that the mist and smoke takes, and there's a growl at the space the hound occupied even after it's scattered back into fog. "I'm fine," she says stubbornly to Ash, though there's a teeth-baring snarl upon her lips and she goes back to focusing on her task, the light beneath her feet glowing all that much brighter.
As the dark mists roil in the cemetery, Korina and everyone with them are struck with a sudden fear. It's cold and awful, sinking into their heart to make the world seem impossible and alone.
"Spirit of the winds, I call upon you. Give me strength to force out this demonic spirit. It taints the air we breath, it..." Elias calls out, but as soon the as the shockwave of fear hits him, he pauses for a moment. He clenches his fist tighter, reaching out his other hand calling upon a gust of wind to push away the encroaching dark mists, "Begone!"
Ash seems to be the active 'fighter', this round, leaving the circles to Elias and Korina, and trusting Kittie to be defending or helping in some way. They toss their enhanced, charged dusted quartz - and then freezes, struggling. Their eyes flit to Korina, looking helpless, like they rely on her. But whether it's the sight of her, or the wind, they take heart, grimacing and pushing through. They can't be alone when they can see her right there, light overcoming the dark mists, the most useful they've ever seen her ability. They give Elias a nod, gratitude and respect, before returning to the attack with a fury.
If not for the seriousness of the situation, someone, *surely*, would be filled with laughter at this gay tossing glitter flamboyantly as a means to fight oppressive evil. It's almost poetic.
Kittie hears that yelp and she opens her eyes- Clearly full focus isn't working and this is all on the fly. She's invested in this and needs to keep Korina standing. It's her job. So there's another tact. She moves behind Ash and Korina, so both are within eyeline so she can insure her aura will begin repairing any physical damage caused by the incorporial spirits. Eyes pealed, she looks out. Hopefully, an eye on the things will give more forewarning if another attack comes. Then that fear strikes and she looks paniced. There's half a step- then another, but then the blond steels herself. Her fists ball tighter, white-knuckled and she stares into the mist. She's shivering, terrified, but not willing to give into that. Her teeth gritted- The small thing is used to fear. It's been her whole life, but not today- Even here.
Okay, so maybe Korina isn't so fine after all. The light falters for a moment as the cold terror sinks into her, and the snarl previously on her face disappears to a more wide-eyed look, as though she's ready to turn tail. She doesn't, instead narrowing her eyes; Elias is over there, throwing gusts of wind against the mist while Ash throws glitter around and Kittie lets loose her aura of soothing, and so she too does her job this once, the large circle almost complete. All that's left is for the symbols inside it to be brought into being, assuming she's got all the attention to detail that the feat requires.
Out of the smoke charges an armed and armored warrior, spun out of black mist. He is dressed head to toe in archaic plate armor, wielding some huge, two-handed sword as black as his armor. With a roar, he rushes at Korina, swinging the sword in some attempt to cut off their head.
The dark haired man seems to get more angry as his ritual goes on, his voice bellowing, "Spirits of the Forest, I call upon you! Accept my blood sacrifice, cast out this demonic spirit. Cast it out to the void!" Elias chants onward, taking a knee and punching it against the ground. It doesn't seem to do much beyond moving around some dirt and blood. The blood however starts to solidify and starts to sprout icy crystals tinged with blood, "Begone back to Sirinia! You are not welcome here!"
This part, Korina is more familiar with - she'll take man trying to cut off her head instead of sudden, sheer terror any day, and she readily takes the opportunity to distract herself by first ducking beneath the sword and then just leaping at the smoke-warrior for a kick of her leg, passing her way through it, dispersing the mist, and ending with a flip and a roll. She ferfectly sticks the landing too, looking quite pleased with herself.
"... oh. Right." The ritual. She was supposed to be doing that. Korina takes her former position once more, and gets to work yet again.
Ash rushes forward towards the warrior, still enraged, though the slight, spritely figure intimidates no one. No one is getting to Korina on their watch! Though, of course, it's not needed. It never is, with her. Still, they attack, defending the more powerful beacon of light by throwing the sand right into the warrior's eyes. In this instant, the quartz's irridescence, prismatic power driven by Korina's light, flares brightly, glittering in a full rainbow as it scatters through the warrior's face, disrupting his form in the process, at least temporarily. They don't need to say it, it's on the mind of anyone who witnesses, surely: Taste the rainbow, bitch!
Kittie Tracks the forming mist, but thankfully, Korina is an adept combattent. She isn't needed to tell her it's coming. Her attention then tracks to Ash and Elias, sure to keep them in her field of view. Her aura is steady, even if she's not and it's quite possible that she wouldn't know how to make it falter even if that was her plan- Which of course it's not. She crouches, becoming distracted by Korina's grace for a moment, this show of strength perhaps being what sees her step forward again, careful to not disrupt the working.
With a howl, some kind of winged monkey-demon swoops down near Korina, its body made of living smoke. It's all grasping claws, striking hard to leave psychic scars that hurt like deep slashes. Other monkeys attack anyone nearby, with similar screeching, rending claws.
Calling out to Korina, "Keep up the good work. Spirits are not completely harmless." Elias says as he closes his eyes once more, whispering lowly as the crystals on his watch glow. The temperature around him starts to drop subtly as he draws in energies, throwing out another blast of wind at the smoky monkey-demon, at the very least trying to deflect or disburse its form.
Korina is really supposed to be doing her light magic glowup thing, but it's kind of hard when there's a winged monkey trying to scratch her. She scratches it right back - take /that/, monkey! - and then announces for the world to hear, "I hate monkeys."
steps back from one monkey demon, then two- No, it was a faint, and they manage to reach the blond. With no other choice- And very little experience, she avoids one,, shifting so one is before the other before she-- Yup, a fist comes up with angelborn swiftness and she decks the incorporial thing. Did it work? Not in the least, but it gives her enough space, and momentum to have the first fall into the path of one of those offensive spells cast by Ash and Elias. Kittie is very good at running from problems though and this is no difference, so she does what comes naturally, she stops still, like a deer in the headlights, eyes wide. When that second demon leaps, she drops and that issue too is taken care of by the casters pinpoint spells.
Ash needs Kittie's help, it seems, as they are attacked. A flinch, a hand raised to protect themself, and then they grab sand in their other hand, moving both hands in an arc, one after another, with twists of their body. Have some pocket sand! The arcs cut through the monkeys, glittering, but dimmed as Korina is distracted. They can't even move to help her focus, sadly, being a monkeytoy themself. They're not here for this Wizard of Oz bullshit, though, intent on scattering them quickly so that they can work on attacking the creatures that are distracting Korina.
A hot wind blows through the cemetery, and with it comes sibilant whispers in the ears of Korina and all their companions: they promise depraved, decadent desires fulfilled, and for a moment that's all anyone can focus on.
Right, okay, monkey dealt with, Korina moves back now to continue with her circle of light - and then, oh, there's something whispering in the distance. There goes her focus again. Absolutely ruined; it'll be a miracle if she manages to get this circle complete even if there's only space for a few more symbols left, but somehow, whatever fantasies are being whispered into her mind, they make her light burn all that much brighter until it almost hurts the eyes.
"Spirits of the storm!" Elias shouts out, but stops right in his tracks for a moment and his gaze goes distant for a moment, but a moment is all that is needed to distract him from his ritual. He shakes his head for a moment, helping himself snap out of whatever distracted him, but he rallies with his chanting, "Spirits of the Storm! I call upon you! Wash away this demonic spirit! He does not belong. Strike it down with your might great spirit!"
Along with the circle itself, Korina starts to glow as well; a not-so-subtle light that begins emitting from the woman's skin when the last prismatic symbol beams into space. Hopefully there's no mundanes passing by the cemetery this hour of the day, because it's going to be really hard to explain the battle of rolling smoke demons against light and ice and glitter. Nestled right at the center of the ritual circle, Korina closes her eyes to focus, her lowered briefly.
Ash doesn't seem that strongly affected by the whispers... they're not very desire driven, apathy occasionally tickled by whimsy and amusement. So, they hardly falter, instead taking the opportunity to turn the tides. When rituals fail, what else is there to disperse spirits? Why, the universal language, that even undead and the mute can speak - violence. Sand, quartz, glitter - empowered by the eye-watering light, each grain leaves a prismatic streak as they arc through the air, scattering one demonic spirit after the other, dispersing and banishing them from the mist. Korina's power boosts them to full capability, despite their lack of spellcasting, simply twisting light.
Kittie moves to help Ash, but then those whispers come... and angelborn are not known for their ability to forestall attacks of the mind, least the desires, and these are strong. What is also obvious though is that the blond is still on the floor, so when she comes rolling up, it's at someone' side and with that desire for depravity, she lets herself get lost in it, lashing out at the monkey things, cackling like a mad thing, obsessed by the whispered promices. It's likely not what would be expected. It's far from elegant, but even with as little as it actually does, it gives Ash a moment to act. As the sensation abates though and she comes back to her senses, she glances around- A moment of confusion before she offers a double thumbs up and a glance that sheepishly says 'You saw nothing' before she returns to a point between the others, insuring her soothing aura maintains the group.
