(Nikolai's bargaining)
[Mon Aug 5 2024]
In Town Hall Northern Meeting Room
It is about 65F(18C) degrees.
Korina nods a greeting to representative of The Shadow Hand when she walks in, and then makes jazz hands at Nikolai. He's the Shadow guy here, not her.
Nikolai's not just the Shadow guy, he's the local chapter master of the Hand's local Shadows. "You would not be so bold as to direct funding /elsewhere/," he warns the representative of The Shadow Hand. "That would be very bad idea. /Very/ bad. But you are not bold. You are subtle. And information trade is good. Re-invest in local efforts, da?"
"Sorry I'm late," Isaiah says, rushing in at the final tolling of the bell after having dashed through the rain. "I'm uh... I'm JR- Arrows of Elaphia. I think we could do lucrative business if you give us a chance," he chimes in, panting for breath all the while.
Finally. Nikolai lets out a sigh, then leans against the wall. "My contacts are ones who approached him, so you had better seal this contract," Nikolai informs Rachel. "Go on - I want to see you do Whisper work."
Rachel's whisper work entails, from the outset, dryly informing the representative that 'Nikolai is standing right here, and will clock whomever doesn't agree with her.' It's said with levity. One would hope.
"Blyat," Nikolai complains, glancing back to Rachel. "You had better be fucking convincing. Do better than that. You are competing with Harriet fucking Fairfax." Nevermind that Harriet's right there to listen to his complaints. "Go on. Impress me."
Harriet approaches, entering the space with her heels clicking and clacking on the floor. A gentle nod is given in greeting to both Rachel and Nikolai as she heads over to a representative of Order SwordBearers and speaks to him in a warm tone, "It is lovely to see you here today. I know what we've discussed previously was agreed upon, and I think all of that went well. I hope that you do, too, and that we may continue to work on said project without any other disruptions." Affording a glance over at the Russian, she arches her left eyebrow, as if to say he might be the disruption after what is said.
Nikolai says "Yes, come. We are competing with the Warden."
"Forget your agreements," Nikolai grunts, turning back to the representative of Order SwordBearers. "Haven chapter of the Order is in strong position. Good alliance. The Hand? For once, it will not hurt to assist us. Venitian politicking has us in terrible alliance, and funds will be hoovered up just in maintaining feeble hold over law and order." He pauses, then pulls a wad of greenbacks from a pocket. "Also," he says slowly, "I can renumerate you /personally/ for decision."
Rachel sidesteps Nikolai to approach Harriet, rather than the representative she's meant to be swaying. "Long time," she says. He can address them. She's taking a different tack. "What disruptions, exactly?" Her volume doesn't drop. Nikolai can listen to Harriet lambast him if he wants.
Listening as Nikolai interacts with the representative of Order SwordBearers, Harriet raises both naturally arched eyebrows this time around. "You are attempting to bribe The Order from helping The Order -- by helping The Order?" she tries to get this straight. After, she looks to Rachel and, with a dismissive wave of a slender right hand, says, "Simply look at him. He walks in a room and his height alone is a disruption."
"I am rewarding single individual for single decision to apply /organisational/ resources where I want them," Nikolai says back to Harriet. "If you did not want bribery to be option, you should not give representatives unilateral control over decision." Nevermind the fact he'd just lambasted some other poor bastard for trying to sway the Shadow Hand against the Hand. That guy hadn't succeeded - Nikolai's hoping to win.
"I can cut him a little shorter if you let me have this one," Rachel offers to Harriet. She flashes the woman a crooked smile. Again, joking! Don't worry about it, Nikolai. "I'd consider it a favor - and I'll do you one extra, too. Can talk about it after."
As Nikolai replies, Harriet stares at him quietly before offering a respectful nod of her head. She leans in slightly towards Rachel to say, "If you can make him dwarf size, I would certainly agree."
Harriet winks at Nikolai right after before bowing her head.
Rachel lowers her hand to her waist, as if questioning whether that's appropriate. She cants her head. Higher? Lower?
