(Novel's syndicate bargain)

[Sat Dec 7 2024]

In simple prison cell
A simple prison cell with metal bars, a security screen on the northern
wall displaying some sort of meeting room.

It is about 50F(10C) degrees.

"Seriously? This shit again? This is going to be fucking awkward to explain if I get dragged out like this..." Novel casually stretches his legs and arcs his back, trying to get out an itch on him.

Novel says "Ah, guess I got the time wrong. Damn."
"All yours," Emmelline says with a nod to Colton. "I just wanted to ensure someone came and collected them, got them out of thee," she says with a shrug, before she walks off.

Stepping through the doors with a metal clanking coming from his duffelbag, Colton glances at someone, sucks on the inside of his lip, then asks, "Don't suppose you've figured out who our Prince or Princess Charming is that they've got, have you?"

Stepping through the doors with a metal clanking coming from his duffelbag, Colton glances at Emmelline, sucks on the inside of his lip, then asks, "Don't suppose you've figured out who our Prince or Princess Charming is that they've got, have you?"

Colton says "Well, I could bribe the guard for a couple details, maybe - oh. Yeah, that'll be that one dude. I don't know any others."
"That one dude?," Emmelline asks of Colton, as she idly makes a bid, now her curiosity has been piqued. "Surely, the entire society isn't made up of one bloke alone?"

Emmelline chuckles as Novel is brought to her. "Hello there mate," she tells the man.

Novel is unceremoniously dumped before Emmelline. Oddly, he's freshly-showered and freshly-saved, though the scent of that is rather countered by the pungent scent of illicit substances as he dances a glass pipe between his lips. Where, and how, he got it into his mouth is a mystery of the ages. He hollows out his cheek - and then pushes outwards, a sucking and then cherry-red glow of the pipe.

Awh, it's only weed. "Hey, Emma." He remarks with even cheer. "How you fucking been?"

"Well, I wouldn't have done that right here," Colton grunts, glancing up to Emmelline from where Novel's bound on the floor. "'Cause I could just scoop him up and run off with him. I won't, 'cause I don't like this guy's reputation - but something to keep in mind for later." He glances down again, then shakes his head in exasperation and walks off.

'All right, but you know," Emmelline says with a smile, "I'm glad it's you. Because you and me? We got to have a talk. Fortunately, I have my car with me. So I'm happy to drive you where ever you need to go. But we need to talk. if I remove this from you, do you promise you'll follow me and come peacefully?," she asks of Novel.

"Hmmm. Sounds like a good fucking deal to me, personally, though I wonder what Colton's problem is? Jealousy or some shit?" Novel remarks, more to himself, lofting his shoulders up in an effortless shrug back at Emmelline. "If you wanna just chat somewhere fucking private and pick a place uhhhhh..." He furrows his brow in thought. "Well, afterwards, I need to head to work. So, Great News Community Center."

'Good, come on then," Emmelline says, as she unties Novel, and beckons him to follow her. 'We can talk while we drive."

Emmelline climbs in the car, and they begin driving. "So," she says pulling the car over so they can chat, "you're seeing Vindi yes/"

Novel rolls to his feet, plucking the pipe from his lips - snuffing it - and tamping it out the window. Then he starts to massage his wrists, his ankles, his neck, a brisk rubbing to return circulation after some stiffness from neck and limbs with the efficiency of someone who's been tied up a lot. "Yeah. She asked me a month and a half ago, said no, started dating Lenny, then asked me again after Lenny did that whole shitty thing to her, and I caved. She's too fucking cute." He pauses, staring out the window. "But don't tell anyone that, fuckers like Colton will think I'm soft and go after me for it."

Emmelline waits patiently for Novel to be done texting, before she speaks. "Yeah well here's the deal. Lenny? He's a scumbag if ever I saw," she says with a sigh, turning sideways in her seat so she's facing Novel. "Whatever relationship you and she have is none of my business. You both want to see other people while being in a relationship? more power to you. I can care less. But what I do care about," she says, her tone turning stern, "is that you don't abuse her yes? She's already been in one bad relationship. I'd hate for her to be in another one."

Novel is permanently online and texting. It will never stop. When they park he turns away from the window, turning to face Emmelline and giving a slightly furrowed brow and a 'wut' expression. He seems to be thinking this through as he scratches his cheek. "Didn't know you two were friends. But if you're talking about abuse-" He gives a horrible leer to Emmelline. "I mean, some of our BEST interactions were me doing horrible shit to her. And that's part of why we're fucking dating now, but eh, you know..." He hitches a shoulder up, expression softening. "I'm not gonna fucking - do shit in public, and we cuddle a lot. Pretty sure Lenny thinks 'cuddling' is a venereal disease."

His gaze is suddenly narrowing in thought. "Wait, if I said I was gonna do shit to her would you have fought me? Now I want to change my answer." A violent man he is.

"No, I wouldn't have fought you," Emmelline says with a shake of her head. "That's not how I handle shite. This is just me asking you, not to hurt her. Whatever goes on in your bedroom is your thing. I don't want to hear about it, I don't really care. What I do care about," she goes on, "is that she's treated well. You're not exactly known for looking after the women you date. Nor for using protection. So you know... do both. Do not, degrade her," she goes on, "as Lenny did. And do not, lay a hand to her. She's already been in one dv situation, I'd hate for her to have gathered the strength to leave that one, only to walk into another."

"Yeah I gotta start remembering to fucking do that, but there's been at least three girls who insisted I didn't and then eventually I just gave up," Novel shrugs back to Emmelline as he slouches against the window, smirking back. "Why not? I can describe it IN DETAIL. Just go on and on about the horrible things and the way I degrade her. I don't care. Vin would probably be humiliated, but she'd enjoy it her own way." The man easily rambles on, apparently intent on upsetting the person before him. And he waves a hand vaguely.

"But nah, shit, she's allowed to have fucking friends. I'll encourage her to go out. If I don't she'll probably kill me some day, she's fucking insatiable."

Emmelline doesn't rise to Novel's bate. She just sighs, and turns the car back onto the street. "You're not the person I'd want her to be with. Given everything she's been through," she says as they drive along. "I told her as much. But you're the one she's choosing. She's got a good heart Vindi. I just don't want her to go out of the frying pan and into the fire that's all," she says, before lapsing into silence.
