In A Large, Well Appointed Bedroom
Easily one of the largest rooms in the apartment, this master bedroom has been decked out in all the comforts one could need. On the eastern wall is a king-sized bed piled high with a mix of white and silver bedding. Decorative throw pillows are heaped high against the dark oak headboard and a wispy, sheer set of curtains hangs from the four poster canopy bed's top rails. At the foot of the bed and facing the western wall is a two person love seat. The floors, most of which are covered by a mix of blue and silver rugs, are grey stained oak. There's a conspicuous lack of natural light here, a section of the wall that formerly overlooked the street now bricked up entirely. Finishing out the area is a fireplace that dominates most of the north side of the room. A pair of chairs, high backed and silver-upholstered, face that focal point.
It is about 50F(10C) degrees.
Ryan says "So what's our plan, Stan?"
In the process of getting dressed, Alexandra holds up a silver necklace toward Ryan and asks, "Is this yours?" She blinks a couple of times and says, "Oh, weird. I feel magic coming from it." She scrutinizes it more and then says, "And nope, now it is gone." She tosses it into the trash then with a shake of her head.
"Oh, yeah...really odd." Ryan says as he listens to his earpiece. "I think Alexander found something down at the Courier. I'm heading out as well to investigate." he leans in for one last kiss as he grins to Alexandra, "You impress people at school now, dear. We're counting on you being the best these kids have."
Or at least, Alexandra tries to throw it away, but it is apparently sticking to her hand. She looks over at Ryan and says, "Alright, sure." She gets her things and heads out to get on her bike to head to the campus.
Alexandra settles into her office with the necklace and sits at the desk. She brushes some papers aside and gets out some chalk. She draws a circle directly on the surface of the desk. Then she draws a star in the circle. She gets some candles out of the desk and positions them at each point of the star, with one in the center. She focuses for a couple of moments to will a halo into light above her head. This also serves to light all six candles.
For several seconds the room grows painfully cold.
Alexandra lets out a startled yelp when a blast of cold frosts her office. She pulls up her hood and zips up her jacket to try to stave off the chill as she gets to work. She taps on her tablet screen to pull up some ritual information. She produces a scalpel from her desk to cut a small like across her palm without going too deep. She clenches her hand to drip a couple drops of blood into the flame of each of the six candles. When she starts to chant, the light from each of the candles begins to pool above the center candle into a small glowing sphere. She holds up the necklace she found to dangle it into the light.
The artifact emits a flash of blinding light.
Alexandra flinches back from a flare of bright light from the sphere. "What the hell!? I haven't even really started yet," she cries out, shielding her eyes and trying not to go blind. It is only half effective really, and she spends the next several moments blinking sight back into her spotty vision. She puts the necklace back into the sphere and starts trying to read from the tablet for what she chants. It is clearly not English she is speaking. And she clearly does not really know the language she is using. Maybe Latin? Who knows. The tablet has a translation guide to help her pronounce everything properly though.
A section of Alexandra's clothing catches fire.
Alexandra gets caught off guard by her jacket lighting on fire. She quickly grabs her left over coffee from earlier and splashes it onto her jacket to try to put out the fire and keep her jacket from being destroyed. Mostly successful, but still singed. She sighs and looks back to the sphere of light above the central candle. "Got some fight in you, huh?" she asks before going back to her chanting from the tablet, making sure the necklace stays dangling in the growing light sphere.
For several seconds the room grows painfully cold.
Blasted with cold once more, Alexandra screams as the coffee on her jacket instantly freezes against her arm. Despite the cold, she struggles out of the jacket and tosses it over to the side. She returns the necklace to the growing ball of light above the central candle and resumes her chants, between grumbles of discomfort and annoyance. But eventually, after a bit of a fight, the light sphere flashes. She closes her eyes, and then light explodes in the office, rendering the cursed necklace safe to handle once more. She lets out a sigh of relief and collapses back in her chair panting heavily and rubbing her arms, trying to get warm.
With a final burst of power the curse on a silver necklace is broken.
