(Ryan's syndicate bargain)
[Wed Apr 3 2024]
In Town Hall Southern Meeting Room
It is about 50F(10C) degrees.
Ryan says "Temple person, maybe it'll be helpful."
Ryan says "Well, she's going to get some dinner and a ride back home if it is."
Ryan says "Does she have black hair and brown eyes?"
Ryan says "I may win her in an auction. Does anyone want anything from her before I get her dinner and drive her back home?"
Ryan says "I don't know yet, but I'll have to avert my eyes, I'm a married man."
Ryan says "She's such a kidder!"
Ryan looks over at Carmine as he waves, "Hey there...uh...Carmine? Some of my people told me your name."
Carmine wears a permament frown as she's lead out by the syndicate, her hands bound in the front. She looks over Ryan to study him then she nods and says, "Yes I am Carmine."
"I'm Ryan Harris, Head Librarian of The Order, and I'm sorry that you're having a rough day. Would you like some dinner and a ride home?" Ryan asks.
Carmine holds up her hands in front of her towards Ryan, "I am staying at the Antlers. I am not hungry." she says her voice terse, there is an obvious undercurrent of annoyance at being in this position.
Ryan says "Picky picky. Well, I'm going to get you some breakfast then."
"Two oh one." Carmine says to that
Carrying Carmine around casually as he gives her a big smile, Ryan looks over the goods and asks, "What did you want for breakfast, Miss Carmine?"
With her hands still bound and a particularly sour look on her face Carmine just goes along with Ryan's particular brand of 'torture' for her. "A black coffee. Something plain to eat is fine. If they even have such a thing."
Ryan says "Plain, yeah, here we go. How has your day been apart from the whole getting picked up thing?"
"Quiet." Carmine gives a short reply. "Who did you say you are?"
"Right. I remember when you lost your arm." Carmine says, as a flicker of recognition passes over her features. "It's good to see it didn't slow you down."
Ryan beams a big smile as he also buys a t-shirt. "And here, you can have a souvenier of our little field trip!"
Ryan says "And a little pecan pie for dessert."
Carmine wears an indignant look on her face at Ryan's antics of treating her nicely. Only she could be grumpy about getting treats. "Is this some sort of Orderite tactic? Killing with kindness?"
Ryan raises an eyebrow to Carmine, "Hmm? No? I just do this with everyone I rescue from The Syndicate. They've had a hard day and I figure if I get caught, maybe they'd owe me one."
Carmine says "I will in time"
Carmine says "I don't want a steak"
Ryan beams a big smile to Carmine, "Sounds good. Well, let's get you back to The Antlers unless you have more shopping to do? Do you have an umbrella? Proper rain attire? It's been quite rainy recently."
"I can manage just fine." Carmine tells Ryan curtly, "Going to the Antlers would be fine."
Ryan nods, "Sounds good. All right, we've got your breakfast and let's get back."
Ryan hums happily as he walks along with Carmine, "So what do you do, Carmine?"
"I'm a Templar." Carmine says, as if that is the whole picture. But in the ensueing awkward silence she speaks up, "For cash I work at White Oak in the clinic as an orderly. It's not a passion."
Coming up to the door of Carmine's hotel room, Ryan sets her down gently. "So what is your passion, Carmine?"
Carmine shrugs one shoulder and says, "Having a passion is for a younger person. I just have a duty to the Temple."
Ryan frowns as he attempts to open the door and fails, "Well, I was going to make sure you got here safe, and tuck you into bed, but oh well. So you're good to go? Can you promise me something, Miss Carmine?"
"That tomorrow you're going to wake up and find a smile." Ryan says with a big grin.
Carmine furrows her brow, then she holds up her wrist towards Ryan to silently request to be freed.
"Come on, Miss Carmine. There's more to life than just Duty. Maybe there's a little bit of happiness down in there under all those frowns." Ryan says with a chuckle as he pats down his suit jacket, looking for his knife.
Carmine says "We are all going to die in a decade. "
"Yeah, but you could maybe have a nice bottle of Bourbon, settle down, find a nice guy or even a lady? I mean a decade is a long time from now if you think about it." Ryan notes.
Carmine says "We'll see"
Ryan beams a big smile at Carmine, "That wasn't so bad now, was it?"
