Williams Decursing Attempt 250516

(Edith's decursing attempt)

[Thu May 15 2025]

In The Cauldron -- The Mundane
Recessed lighting shines from the wall directly opposing the entrance, and it proves to be the only source of light in this atmospheric foyer. It's dark; and any additional natural or artificial lighting is drowned out by shadows. The ceiling is supported by maple support beams, and a fan lazily spins overhead to provide a gentle breeze for the guests. Shelves and tables fill the space here, atop natural, hardwood flooring that has been scuffed by time.

An ornate full-length mirror hangs on the northern wall.

It is about 65F(18C) degrees.

Kneeling, Edith stands again with a wooden dagger which she holds up. "You have someone trying to cause issues by cursing the shop."

"I intend on breaking it." Edith decides.

"The curse." Edith stares at said dagger. "If nothing else, I am the only one bothering to handle upkeep outside the basics for the Helping Hand, and we cant just depend on handouts."

"It does." Edith answers, a thoughtful tone in her voice as she inspects the dagger. "Though curious that it is only me when we have active agents. Sam needs to come back and take over again. This leadership nonsense is vexing- Good day Ezra. We have this dagger." Edith shows Ezra a wooden dagger as she motions to William.

Holding the dagger out, Edith inspects it before doing anything observable, though it's likely that there will be dark sorcery used before long.

Ezra assumes the postion near Edith and William to assist with the decursing attempt but doesn't say anything for now, just assisting where he can.

William sighs for a moment, glancing around the shop before saying "Alright, let me turn the sign to say we are closed... At least for this little while" Getting from behind the counter, he stretches a bit and comments to Edith "I don't think anyone was inside, if there is- We wipe their memory later" Before nodding in greeting to Ezra and commenting to him "Ah good, listen to your teacher or something"

Ezra looks over to Edith and mouthes to her, "Or something?" before returning his focus to what she is doing, clearly amused by what William suggested.

"I smelt no one else." Edith nods to William's suggestion though. "It's wood." she mentions to Ezra. "Not dreadfully hard to break, just a matter of finding the correct rune to scratch."

Turning it slowly, Edith seems to inspect every angle of the thing, a finger tracing over it. "Well made though as curses go."

The whole room shakes.
reaching out, Edith catches the counter to maintain her footing. "Oh. You don't like that..." she muses, more to herself than William or Ezra.

"Yeah, I thought so... But always good to make sure" William comments to Edith before opening the outside door, and turning the sign to indicate it is closed, before returning towards the counter- Just in time for everything to start shaking, wobbling a couple times and almost going down, before groaning and saying "If it does that again- I'm shifting, lowering my gravity center and all that... "

"A good idea." Edith allows, still distracted as she points out a series of knotted runes across the blade and crossgard of the wooden dagger, a fingernail tracing the lines. "Would you like me to turn you?" she asks Ezra in a low voice.

A blast of force sends Edith flying into Ezra.

Being blasted back, Edith slams into Ezra, but fortunately, Edith keeps hold of the dagger. Vampiric strength is useful. She's also not very heavy, short and slight as she is, so once she orientates herself she can resume the study.

William returns slowly to the counter, resting on it, this time not from behind but from a side, glancing towards the dagger and commenting, as if the object could hear "Sorry buddy, three arcanists, you're not getting away..." Before directing his gaze towards the already clashed Ezra and Edith and asking softly "Do you need any help with it or...?"

"I think that may be wise." Edith tells William, steadying herself as she impacts Ezra. "The runes are delicate here, and I am lost as to the meaning of a couple of these linked ones." The sunlight makes it harder for Edith to see.

For several seconds the room grows painfully cold.
The cold, Edith doesn't notice until she notices Ezra and William's breath. "Cut that out right now." she snarls at the dagger.

"Well, you don't need to understand it to make it stop" William counters, seemingly not minding the cold filling the room, in fact, quite appreciative of the change of pace "You know how in battle you can channel positive and negative magic energies? Who do you think has more magic? This tiny little curse imprinted on a dagger? Or you?"

"That is the thing." Edith sighs. "I could just snap it, but part of dealing with these pissy little toys is the fun factor. It is like a rubix cube." Though Edith is the kind who would hit a cube with a hammer and put it back together as it should be.

A section of William's clothing catches fire.

"Don't overthink it... These curses have so few-" William starts saying before his shirt catches on fire, and, not wanting to have the piece of clothing be consumed by the flame, he simply does as he had announced before, and within a second, there's no longer man, but animal

"Oh dear." Edith mentions conversationally as William(Gulo Gulo)'s clothing catches fire. She turns the dagger again, then decides that she has the answer. A pale finger follows a line from hilt to tip, then back down the blade half-way, the entire artistry traced through the inlay. Then, she steps away from Ezra with a nod. "There we go." she decides. For good measure, she also drags a nail through that glyph before, yes, solving it as she might a rubix cube-- ripping it apart.

William turns back to human seconds before, glancing towards his shirt which thankfully is no longer burning, letting out a heavy sigh and saying "As I was saying, these things have so few power that they just sizzle away if you let them be- These flashy effects are just shortening it's life by the second..."

Ezra wakes up from his reverie and nods to Edith, looking around to reappraise himself of the situation.

With a final burst of power the curse on a wooden dagger is broken.
