In the Checkout Area of Haven Hardware
The floor is wooden with a custom carved counter in the back third of the room across from the main entrance. The counter a wooden frame with glass panel top and front to show off various goods for display. In the middle of the room are various shelves lined with various goods decorate the shelves such as nuts, bolts, nails, thumb tacks. Small goods for home improvement or construction. The walls are painted a russet brown color, with forest green trim. Behind the counter is a black door with a white sign that reads OFFICE. In the corner of the southern wall of the room is a blue door with a white sign that reads STORAGE. To the north is an open section of wall that leads to the shopping area. The lighting overhead is inset and bright.

It is about 50F(10C) degrees.

"This is inconvenient," Cadence grimaces, pressing a hand to her cheek. "I was shopping just to prep for all of this, you know," she calls out into the distance. "Johnny boy..."

"They always are inconvenient if you ask me" William sighs out while shrugging his shoulders "Try not to hurt me too badly..."

"This'll be fucking great." Elam tells aside at Cadence while stepping through the loom and gloom of the veil and into the area. His shoulders stiffen, roll around and about, with a rotten spear twisted around at his side. Spun once before held tight. His other hand lifts to start undoing some work - mainly, begin tearing out of his bandages, his sunglasses, bare to sight what lies within blatantly when they're within the domain of the aware.

"Me? I can't. Not like this. No, no, no," Cadence chants those last three determinants like a mantra, only noticing someone as he manifests into the Nightmare. "A knight in shining armour. I knew you didn't mean all that back there."

"Me? I can't. Not like this. No, no, no," Cadence chants those last three determinants like a mantra, only noticing Elam as he manifests into the Nightmare. "A knight in shining armour. I knew you didn't mean all that back there."

"Again, try not to harm me too much" William says with a shrug, shaking his head to the sides

"Look. Buddy, you don't get to make the terms here," Cadence clips, wrinkling her nose. She's elevated a few notches because she's got a big fish in the pond that's not gonna eat her. Here.

Those eyes, like wounds carved into faceless features, they turn upon Cadence slowly. Elam moves like a marionette with thin strings, slides like ooze, moves like smoke to linger around the woman. His head stays just over her shoulder, with that wide, jaw-hinge to jaw-hinge mouth parting to reveal every fang, every sharp canid in his smile as a tongue begins to elongate out of his mouth. Too long, too serpentine beside her ear. "Focus," Elam hisses - "If you don't do well, I'm gonna eat your fucking spleen." And the way he drools on her shoulder, Elam probably means it.

"You don't say..." William replies with some level of irony, rolling his eyes and tilting his head to a side "How many people has Venice placed on the other side of this veil?"

Cadence gets knocked down a peg or two by the monster looming over her shoulder. A shaking hand brings a phantom cigarette to her lips. She has no more smoke to blow, but the placebo helps with the nerves. "We've got about say. Seven. How about you?" she asks, coughing into a mitt. "I uh. Only got my knife. I'm as blind as a bat," she complains, unable, and unwilling to try to pierce the darkness right now. "Look. Echolocation," she claims, clicking her tongue, her face grown disquieted.

Cadence fishes around for something, anything. No cigarettes, left her revolver under the bed, but she produces a jagged little knife from under her skirt. "There we go. Lights on." She waves the little pigsticker about. "Ill just. Stick by you," she relays to Elam.

Taking a deep breath, William focuses and rises his hand for a moment, casting some illusory trick to try and distract Elam, commenting a little "That looks cool" Glancing over at the horns and wings, before sighing and pulling his bow together, carefully aiming towards Cadence and shooting a single arrow that apparently seems to get the job done

Cadence fades out of the nightmare.

Cadence says "That was embarrassing. Oh well. He'll get his dues."
Malcolm arrives in the Nightmare posthaste, weaponry on his person. "Well, shit. Whatta we got goin' down?"

Novel says "Dunno. Guess we'll find out."
"Ah. Guess we're gonna be scrappin' again, then," Malcolm calls out toward the north, looking sidelong toward Seamus.

Seamus was totally not on auto pilot and just now looked up.

Seamus says "The fuck is going on?"
"Fight," Malcolm informs Seamus askance. "Someone's hungry."

Seamus nods taking his bow off of his shoulder and strings it, "Well. Ok then. Uh. I'll try not to fuck up as much this time."

Seamus draws an arrow, "Sometimes... some crimes... go slipping through the cracks but these two... gumshoes...."

K-chck, goes Malcolm's rifle. "... are pickin' up the slack..." As he sights up, peering through the wisp of nightmare ineffectually.

"Toni better appreciate how good a catch you are," Seamus says lowly under his breath with a hint of wry humor. "If she ever leaves you I am throwing my hat in the ring."

"Not sure if you meant for her or for me, man, but nobody's stoppin' you either way," Malcolm jokes(?) back to Seamus, checking over his gear and watching for movement in the nightmare. "But, tsk, settle up. They're out there, somewhere. Whoever."

Seamus says "You, dumb ass"
Malcolm snerks gently. "Then yeah, nobody's definitely stoppin' you." A beat. "... where are they, I wonder."
