All My Friends Are Vampires Sr Emmelline 241201

In the heart of a quiet neighborhood on Cemetery Lane, an unexpected adventure unfolds for Eric, an amiable stranger with a knack for rescuing those in distress, and Hermes, a dog with a fear as big as his heart. The scene is set under a canopy of storm clouds, adding an air of immediacy to the situation unfolding below.

Eric, following the pleadings of Annie, the dog's owner, finds himself on a peculiar mission to rescue Hermes, who has managed to get himself perilously lodged in a tree. Despite the dog's apparent terror, Eric approaches with patience and a strategy that leans more towards heroism than negotiation.

Annie, in her desperation, scrambles to find a solution from her collection of household items, returning with stepping stools that Eric hesitantly accepts as his means to ascend towards Hermes. The rescue operation is anything but straightforward. Hermes' fear manifests in a frantic struggle, complicating Eric’s initial attempts at a rescue. However, Eric's resolve doesn't waver.

Guided by Annie's assurance that Hermes is more scared than dangerous, Eric employs a mix of practicality and compassion. He manages the branches imprisoning Hermes' paw and transitions from a would-be tree climber to a gentle comforter, dishing out pets to soothe the terrified dog. The transformation in Hermes is palpable; he shifts from a bundle of anxiety to a creature willing to trust his newfound friend.

With the ordeal of coaxing Hermes down to safety ahead of them, Eric adeptly balances concern for the dog's wellbeing with the practical need to navigate the makeshift ladder back to solid ground. His efforts culminate in Hermes safely in his arms, a testament to Eric's patience and gentle approach.

Upon their safe return to earth, the reunion between Hermes and Annie is touching. The gratitude she expresses to Eric is profound, highlighting the relief of having her beloved pet back safe. The incident, seemingly trivial in the grand myriad of life's challenges, stands as a monument to the kindness of strangers and the bonds between humans and their animal companions.

Thus, the story concludes not with grand fanfare but with a simple, heartfelt thank you. It’s a reminder that heroes come in all forms, sometimes as a stranger willing to climb up a tree to save a scared dog, forever changing the ordinary into an extraordinary tale of empathy and kindness.

On Cemetery Lane

It is afternoon, about 57F(13C) degrees, and there are a few dark grey stormclouds in the sky.

Eric has long enough legs that he more strides than skips to keep up with the woman, perfectly glad to get right on the road with someone who's a complete stranger. When he arrives with her to that humble little home, with its humble little yard, the dog really does stand out in the tree it's...... Somehow, got itself caught up in. Whatever unlikely story she told isn't quite something he intends to go over again, and he opts to instead wander towards that tree, tilting his head back to look the terrified dog on over. "Hey, little buddy.. Who's a good boy?" The dog obviously doesn't know him, at all, but he'd prefer to know its disposition before getting a finger gnawed on. "I've been asked to try'n get you out, so- sit tight! I'm sure I'll get you nice'n safe in no time at all.."

As described by Annie, the dog is really a big old scarity cat. For as Eric approaches him, he barks at the man, and tries to back pedal at the same time, driving him to get even higher up on the tree. then he realizes his height again, and sits and whimpers pitifully again. 'Oh Hermes stop it!," Annie calls from the bottom on the tree. To Eric the woman says, "he's totally harmless. It won't bite or anything. he loves people once he gets to know them. But he's a big old scarity cat.""

There's no snapping jaws, no bared teeth, and it does in fact convince Eric that he is, at the very least, in the clear to try and grab little Hermes.. Eventually. "He's- your dog got pretty high up, lady!" It's true. Even his taller frame would need to strain and risk quite a bit to get a hand on that dog. "Do you have a shed, a step ladder? I can try and climb the tree but.. Something a little more stable would be nice before I try stuff like that!" He tilts his head to look back on up, look at the height the dog has gotten to, making a troubled face in doing so

"A step ladder?," Annie says, trying to remember whether she has one around the house. "Maybe? Hold on I'll be right back." The woman disappears into a backyard shed, presumably to look for just such a ladder. meanwhile, the little dog continues to whimper sadly, as he looks down at what would naturally appear to him a dizzying height. In truth, though the dog may just be out of Eric's grasp, but he could reasonably jump off and be fairly safe. Though of course, the dog doesn't know it. Annie appears a few moments later, carrying a couple stepping stools. "Would this work?," she asks the man, as she stacks the stepping stools on top of one another to make a sort of makeshift ladder.

Eric weighs his options, and considers himself better at being a daring rescuer than a dog diplomat talking sense into a terrified little creature. "Yeah- yeah, something like that! That's great!" Great here means something along the lines of 'it'll do', which might really be enough for him. The man makes sure the tools for the job get steadied out, that he has a path on up, and then he goes to climb up. Large feet find a platform on those stools, stepping on up one after another so he can get more of a height advantage still. "Alright, buddy.." There's no sudden movements. No need to rush this, to try anything rushed, speedy, stupid. Hermes doesn't have lots of places to go, and at most just risks knocking into a silly branch on a fall anyway. With that in mind, Eric just tries to wrap his hands about the dog's chest, its hips. Anything really to get a decent grip and lift its tiny, lightweight little body off of the branch holding it up.

The little dog unfortunately for Eric, is again a rather terrified little creature. So as he tries to grasp it, the dog wriggles and kicks, squealing in terror, as she makes the situatin worse, and ends up getting his paw stuck between some of the branches. Fortunately for Eric, the dog really is a docile thing, just very frightened. For not once does he growl at Eric, nor show his tiny teeth. There isn't any hostility towards the man, just genuine fear towards someone he doesn't know, and his unknown situation.

At first a sigh, then a slump of those shoulders, and then a moment or two for Eric to just stare at the dog getting itself in more trouble. "Hermes, I'm here to help you.. You're really not- damnit.." Eric is quite a patient man, something Annie might appreciate - and which Hermes barely seems to acknowledge. Tugging at paws seems like it'll just distress the dog more, but Eric can definitely push at some branches. Barring the tree being a wickedly evil spirit torturing him for fun, it should in fact allow for Hermes to yank free a paw in that panicked state - and for Eric, hopefully, to then scoop the dog up before it manages to do something silly a second time

Annie looks up rather helplessly at Eric. "I can see the paw. If you yes," she says with a nod, as Eric pulls the branches aside. "Just pet him. He loves getting pets. If you pet him, he'll probably calm down. He just doesn't know you, and he scares at the drop of a hat," she tries to explain, as she looks up with great anxiety at the situation. The dog for his part, just whimpers and looks very scared. He doesn't move the paw as one perhaps expect, for maybe the dog doesn't realize he's free and can do so. So he just sits there awkwardly, whimpering sadly.

Eric stares at the dog, giving himself a moment to listen in to that middle-aged woman and just let the dog sit there. It'll be fine, surely, for another moment to sit there. "Hear that? She knows you." Eric keeps a hand on the branches, if just to have them parted enough for no paws to get all stuck again. There's some irritation there, a frustrated look on his face, but that really shouldn't matter now; Eric raises his free hand, and just gets to petting. And petting at the dog some more. Its head, its neck, its back, anything in reach really, if just in the hopes that Annie's got it right completely, and that a stranger's pets will somehow get the silly dog closer to stop being as actively unhelpful, as well as closer to just coming along neatly

The dog seems to calm down as Eric pets it. And sure enough, it doesn't take long before the dog calms down, and begins panting cutely at Eric. He edges closer to the man, but then the height terrifies him, and so he's unable to jump off the tree into the man's arms as perhaps the dog might want to do. though he looks much happier now. "Good Hermes," Annie calls from the bottom of the tree, as she watches her dog calming down. "See/ he just wants pets," she says, flashing Eric a look of gratitude.

Eric seems to have unlocked the Hermes cheat code, so graciously provided by the woman calling out for him to approvingly. "Alright, little buddy, we're friends now.. Friends don't- back up from other friends to sprain their ankles in trees, friends just- let other friends Shanghai 'em away." He exhales, and even while petting tries to loop one arm below the dog's belly, the other squishing slightly along its back with the petting - an excellent trap, HOPEFULLY, in order to properly pick it up and just pull it closer to his chest in doing so.

Now that the dog has gotten properly acquainted with Eric, he seems more than happy to come along with Eric as he gets scooped up. In fact, he seems quite contented, as he relaxes in the man's arms, and does one of those cute dog sighs. Clearly happy to be out of the tree. The dog is quite docile Eric would come to realize, once he's got Hermes in his arms, he doesn't move. Seeming quite okay to be carried.

Eric lets out a quiet sigh of contentment, rendered less cute than Hermes' for sheer (unfair, outrageous) reasons of being an awkwardly tall man rather than a tiny dog. When he has Hermes held securely, when he can feel sure there's no more issues, the young man begins to disembark those stools. One after another, looking on down, and petting the dog with his hand some more as he does just that, content to get through this without any issue and with only some time lost on making sure it all goes by well.

Everything does in fact go well fortunately for Eric, Hermes seems quite trusting as far as dogs go, and as they hit the ground once more, the dog see his owner and struggles to get to her. Clearly happy to be reunited. "Aww thank you so much!," the woman says gratefully to Eric. "I really appreciate it. He doesn't usually jump up so high," she tells Eric. "No matter how scared, he just runs away. I don't know what got into him this time."
