Elegance In Shadows Pt 3 Sr Edith 250301

In the vibrant and shadowed underbelly of New York, the fate of Novel, Ritsuka, and Beatrix intertwines amidst the flames of betrayal and vengeance against the backdrop of a seemingly playful flame grill restaurant. This establishment, a concealed bastion of the supernatural, sets the stage for a confrontation of monumental proportions, initiated by Hilaina Strahd's malevolent schemes and the entrapment of our protagonists. As the air fills with the tension of anticipated conflict, our characters, armed with personal vendettas and the burden of past horrors, step into a meticulously laid trap designed to ensnare them in a web of supernatural warfare and familial discord.

The ambiance of the restaurant, vibrant yet overshadowed by impending dread, masks the true nature of the confrontation that awaits Novel, Ritsuka, and Beatrix. They are not merely fighting for survival but are entangled in a deeper narrative of power, betrayal, and the quest for liberation from the chains of their tormentor, Hilaina Strahd. The confrontation escalates rapidly as Hilaina reveals her intentions to manipulate Novel through a dark artifact, a cursed relic meant to enhance his abilities but bind him to her will, rendering him a puppet in her grand design. The artifact, a symbol of his mother's control and manipulation, signifies Novel's struggle against his predetermined fate.

As the battle ensues, the group's unity and resolve are tested amidst the chaos of physical and magical combat. Ritsuka's transformation into a fox and her ferocious attack on Hilaina demonstrate her defiance and determination to avenge her fallen comrades, underscoring the depth of her loyalty and the personal stakes involved. Novel's brute force and tenacity in grappling Hilaina highlight his inner turmoil and desperation to break free from his mother's grasp, reflecting the internal battle against his imposed destiny. Beatrix's strategic yet desperate attempts to bring sunlight into the fray, though not entirely successful, show her resourcefulness and willingness to fight alongside her friends, despite the complexities of their supernatural world.

The fight reaches its climax as external forces, hinted at by the bystander's maddening capture of Hilaina on digital media, threaten to unveil their hidden struggle to the world. The intervention of Venice, resulting in Hilaina's capture, offers a temporary reprieve from her terror but leaves the group with a bitter aftertaste of unfinished business and the persistent threat of her escape. The incident at the flame grill restaurant becomes a pivotal moment in their lives, forever altering their paths and solidifying their bond forged in the crucible of conflict.

Their escape to Haven marks not an end but the beginning of a new chapter, laden with uncertainties and the inevitable repercussions of their actions. The shadows of New York may have witnessed their victory, but the ripple effects of their confrontation with Hilaina Strahd will follow them, a constant reminder of the battle scars etched into their souls and the fragile nature of freedom in a world that thrives on darkness and deceit.

In The domain of Demiurge; A restaurant tucked away in the underbelly of New York
Nestled in the heart of New York, the brightly colored flame grill restaurant boasts an eye-catching exterior, with vibrant hues of red, orange, and yellow that evoke the warmth of a lively summer day. The playful design features bold graphics of flames dancing around the entrance, inviting passersby to imagine the sizzle of fresh ingredients on the grill.
however, the atmosphere inside is currently subdued; a closed sign hangs prominently on the door, signaling that the culinary delights within are momentarily inaccessible. The windows, usually framed with cheerful decorations, are now obscured by drawn blinds, casting a gentle shadow over the colorful dcor inside.
Despite its temporary closure, the restaurant's charm remains palpable. The aroma of grilled spices still lingers in the air, a tantalizing reminder of the vibrant meals once served here. Brightly colored chairs and tables stand empty, awaiting the return of guests eager to indulge in the flavorful offerings of the flame grill. The space, though quiet, promises a lively ambiance and a mouthwatering experience, just waiting to be reignited when the doors open once more.

It is about 50F(10C) degrees.

A five-spoked black iron wheel with a beating heart in the center

We're waiting on one more, so we'll give a couple minutes.

Beatrix stands around idly.

That's everyone for today.

(I have two establishing emotes, of which this is the first. I'll number them, post them and then let you all read before we move onward. Please remember that this plot is going to be establishing the scene, then upheaval, and followed with some character growth for Novel before the party fully reunight to save the day.) *1* The chill of February hangs in the air, a sharp reminder that winter still has its claws in the world. The mist-shrouded colors of the forest surrounding Haven are dulled to muted browns and grays, the skeletal branches of trees clawing at the slate sky, breaking through the supernatural mists only by virtue of being supernatural itself. The township itself is quiet, almost eerily so, as if the townsfolk sense an unease creeping beneath the surface of their mundane lives. Smoke curls lazily from chimneys, seen to the north, across the river in White Oak, joining with the mist that flows with reckless abanden, but the warmth and light of homes feel oddly distant, an abrupt contrast to the encroaching shadows of the forest and the adventure ahead. As Novel Ritsuka and Beatrix gather in the Bowels of Sludgefukk; The departure point for this path-- the violent echoes of laughter and chatter from nearby people-- And less than people-- are swallowed by the oppressive stillness of the breached reality. The dancefloor beneath your feet is slick with the remnants of spilt drinks, blood-- Likely drugs, too, and no little discarded glass, and a cold wind whistles through the resounding torrent of sound of the Obsidian empowered club, carrying with it the scent of damp earth and something more sinister lurking just beyond the borders of Beatrix, Novel and Ritsuka's senses. The air is thick with anticipation and dread, a palpable tension that seems to vibrate in the marrow of Novel, Beatrix and Ritsuka's bones. You all know what is at stake-- the looming presence of Hilaina Strahd, a specter from Novel's past, and the potential horrors that her success might bring. The memories of the Haemomorphs, grotesque abominations that once guarded her secrets, flicker in your minds like the dying embers of a once-raging fire. Ritsuka can almost hear the whispered warnings of Kiernan, the vampire spawn, echoing in her ears, urging you all to tread carefully. As Novel, Beatrix and Ritsuka prepare for the journey ahead, the path leading from Haven into the dark embrace of the forest seems to pulse with an ominous, forceful energy. The trees loom overhead, their gnarled branches forming a twisted canopy that blocks out the pale February sun, casting the forest floor into a midnight gloom along the path. Each step Beatrix, Novel and Ritsuka take is accompanied by the crunch of leaves and twigs, noises amplified in the stillness, reminding everyone that they are not alone, and to stray from the path is to invite nightmares unimaginable. The journey to New York lies ahead, a city of contrasts where sinister shadows dance with artificial light, but the thought of Hilaina's machinations still echo in your minds. You cant shake the feeling of being watched, as if the very essence of the forest is alive and aware of your intentions. The path is long, foreboding, though at its end is mystery and answers, so Novel, Beatrix and Ritsuka step forward-- One foot, then the next. As you all reach the edge of the dark forest, the path opens up, revealing the skyline of New York; A jagged silhouette against the horizon, with people a plenty and vehicles buzzing like drones. The city pulses with life, unaware of the dark forces stirring in the shadows, waiting for Novel, Beatrix and Ritsuka's arrival. Hilaina is waiting, her plans weaving through the fabric of reality like a spider spinning her web, and where she waits is up ahead, a small flame grill of all places. One well known to be run and owned by agents of the vampire court of New York for the enjoyment of the supernaturals and gifted who reside in their territory.

*2* Nestled in the heart of New York- And accessable only to those in the know, the brightly colored flame grill restaurant boasts an eye-catching exterior, with vibrant hues of red, orange, and yellow evoking the warmth of a lively summer day: Ironic, for what is to take place within, and the villain who lingers just out of sight-- A figure that has been a plague to Novel for his entire life. The happy-go-lucky, playful aesthetic of the exterior design features bold graphics of flames dancing around the entrance, inviting passersby-- Those who are supernatural, in any case, to imagine the sizzle of fresh ingredients on the grill. Something that anyone with an occult knowledge of 3 or more would understand to house protective runework that deflects attention from those who are not aware of the supernatural. This inviting place is likewise known to be a static enterence to New York's goblin market, and so is well known to serve meals on request that would make even the mass number of Hand operatives wince away from. Within though is another matter, for the atmosphere inside is currently subdued; a closed sign hangs prominently on the door, signaling that the culinary delights within are momentarily inaccessible. Hilaina Strahd looks to have everything in hand, and what is to follow can only be machiavellian in nature. The windows, usually framed with cheerful decorations, are now obscured by drawn blinds; venetian (Ironic), casting a gentle shadow over the colorful dcor inside, and leaving Novel, Ritsuka and Beatrix in a gloom that makes it harder to see. Despite its temporary closure, the restaurant's charm remains palpable. The aroma of grilled spices still lingers in the air, a tantalizing reminder of the vibrant meals served here-- At least, when Hilaina Strahd isn't leaning on her lessers to influence the situation to her advantage. Brightly colored chairs and tables stand empty, awaiting the return of guests eager to indulge in the flavorful offerings of the flame grill, to which today, Ritsuka, Beatrix and Novel are the only ones in attendence. The space, though quiet, promises a lively ambiance and a mouthwatering experience, just waiting to be reignited when the doors open once more. For Beatrix, Ritsuka and Novel though, it is more than that; It is something malicious, dangerous, and with his expertise in both Hilaina, Novel's mother, and working restaurants-- Of which this is one of those he had previously served as a cook for-- There is more perhapse. This has all of the hallmarks of one of Hilaina's lessons. Furthermore, Novel is fully aware of how a closed restaurant should smell, and this is not it... The scents are too clear-- Too vibrant, as if it were still active. The grills are still on, and as Ritsuka and Novel enter the establishment with Beatrix, the bell above the door tinkles merrily, inviting and welcoming to Beatrix Novel and Ritsuka in spite of everything ahead of them-- The lingering sensation of hypnotic power. And there she is. Hilaina Strahd stands in the shadows at the back of the restaurant. She's flipping burgers, albino white hair netted to preserve the sanctity of the food she cooks, motions smooth as she calls over to you all. "Welcome, Novel. Welcome Novel's little friends. Please do make yourselves comfortable. Food will be ready in no time."

Sorry about that, cat decided to /help/

Novel meets the rest of the group at New York - for his part, he either drags them along with Pathing himself to this place, or simply uses the resources at his disposal for the Anarchs to help them do the same. Unlike his normal foul-mouthed lighthearted manner he's been unusually sober since the start of the trip, the cruel, merciless nature of Sludgefukk unable to lift the palatable, weary dread mingled with the tightly-wound anger that comes from his clenched features. His lips move and words come out, heavy as lead. "So. Hilaina. We're going to have to stop her. This is probably a trap. it is what it is." He says, with low exhale as he starts to cut the path open with shaky hands through. "We'll stop by a grill. It's pretty... highly rated. Good food." No flowery descriptions either, when he's usually happy to go on and on. Words seem to take significant effort. "Try not to eat and drink any of it, though. I'll keep her ... attention. You two focus on stopping whatever she's doing. I'll jump her later and buy you time."

And there, at the end of the road, with the trio of them - he takes the front. He grunts. "Hello, Mother. What's the meat this time? Innocent lamb? Fresh pig?"

Ritsuka arrives to the sludgefukk her way through, fully armed along with a bodyguard and two other people, all three of them are in full body armor, along with a cloak and open weaponry that they hide, as much as they can under the cloaks. The three of them would be described in the briefest as a female soldier clad in dark, camellia-marked armor. She for her own is openly armed and armored, too, it seems that she and her group have a debt that they wish to tell, one that Novel is most likely not aware of, when Hilaina made use of a Dynasty nightmare to assail the little known district she and her own had been building. Their gazes are hidden under the full-helmets, but it would be foolish to claim there was only insignificant animosity towards Hilaina.

Her own group steps in together, rifles do not yet rise, but the kitsune masked leader of the group moves to take a look around, and then, under sunglasses and mask both, rolls her eyes. There is a look she gives to Novel, something is definitely not right, and so she goes on to move a little more to the side, somewhere where they have more cover from the different angles.

Beatrix sighs to herself as she mentally prepares herself. She checks her purse for the concealed small blade she always keeps on her, she glances over to the Kitsune. "Ahm sorry sugah, do you have something I should be calling ya?"

Beatrix nods just once in apology. "Sorry, just like to get a line on people."

"Nothing wrong with learning about other people," Novel grunts on the pathway over there while the storyrunner does their writing-thing. "Never even heard the name Raina before."

Beatrix glances to Ritsuka before answering Novel. "She seems like a good kid. Ah just worry about her is all. Ya know this town."

"You know how this town is. You either get assholes or victims." Novel grunts back to Beatrix, his own expression and experience gloomy as he works on opening up the path in this between-moment of narratives.

Ritsuka makes an affirmative nod to it. "Raina-san is sweet. But it gave me a headache yesterday, so much for taking a day off."

The ambiance in the flame grill takes on a surreal quality as Ritsuka and her people, Novel and Beatrix step further inside, the vibrant colors and playful decorations cast in a shadowy hue from the drawn blinds and something else-- If you were to have an occult knowledge of 2, or a ritualism of 1, you would know that even here there is a shadow cloak active, setting the gloom to deeper depravities of lingering danger within the shadows. The air is thick with a mix of tantalizing aromas-- a phantasm of the meals that usually fill the space with laughter and chatter from the supernatural community at large. The brightly colored chairs and tables, now stand in eerie stillness, their cheerful tones contrasting sharply with the current subdued atmosphere. Is it truly possible that the restaurant is entirely empty, or could there be enemies within the shadows? A perception skill of 3 or above would suggest to the observant that there are others here, hidden and loitering just out of the way, And that could suggest other hidden dangers, though what those could be is yet to be identified by Novel, Ritsuka or Beatrix. In the center of this culinary shrine stands the vampire-- Broad day, approaching mid day, and yet oh-so-very apparent; Hilaina Strahd, that striking albino figure who embodies both beguilingly haunting hypnotic charm and gently restrained menace. Her presence commands attention, demonicly so, seductively so, her movements bonelessly, fluid and ophidionly graceful as she flips burgers with an almost hypnotic rhythm. The flames from the grill flicker warmly, casting dancing shadows that play against the walls and the albino's pale flesh, while the sound of sizzling meat cuts through the heavy silence. She wears a knowing smile, one that hints at the evil lurking beneath her seemingly benign demeanor. The restaurant, with its playful design and vibrant exterior, feels almost like a twisted carnival to Novel, Beatrix and Ritsuka, where the funhouse mirrors reflect a reality far more sinister than believable. Yet, aside from the touch of the fae here, there is more, a sopperiphic quality that seeks to drudge you all into a compliance, a gentle voice in the back of your minds that invites you to simply relax. Hilainas voice, smooth and conversational, contrasts with the tension in the air. "Sacrificial lamb," she teases, glancing back to Novel and his companions, her tone light, yet laced with an unmistakable threat. As she prepares the burger, the atmosphere shifts. The aroma becomes intoxicating, almost seductive, drawing Ritsuka, Novel and Beatrix in despite the underlying sense of danger screaming in your minds, that conflict between relaxation and threat that batters at your very souls. The simple pleasure of food is complicated by the knowledge of the trap laid before you all. "Do any of you want anything?" Hilaina asks, her eyes glinting with cruelty and demonic mischief. The promise of untainted food feels like a mockery amidst the tension. The plate; Layed out with a perfectly constructed burger, crispy fries, and golden onion rings, is a feast for the senses. Yet, Ritsuka, Beatrix and Novel know that every bite is fraught with uncertainty, a delicate balance of temptation and trepidation.

Ritsuka glances down to her phone for a couple of moments, to distract herself from what Hilaina wants to feed them. She has no intention, nothing this woman has ever done brought anything good to her or her own. Ah, venice is meeting to discuss alliances, not that many seem to be holding to their aligned alliances lately, but she has had the misfortune of having been almost consistently placed into the middle, the moderates for months. Quite annoying in reality. This was Novel's parent, and so it is left to Novel to figure this out. Sometimes it is great to push something off to someone else.

Beatrix spends her time trying to see past the gloom, but focuses on casing the place, looking for hidden security, access routes, electronic support. Her stomach growls slightly as she lets the other take the lead, ready to help ... but unsure how beyond being vigilant.

Novel is as deaded and unobservant to magic, and open and vulnerable to temptation. He was never a man to resist, where he saunters on over towards the plate full of delicious food, his posture and features full of confidence that he doesn't feel at all. He flashes a reassuring smile at Beatrix and Ritsuka, apparently picking up on something, his sunglasses hiding his expression as he moves to pick up the plate.

"Yeah, this plate of burgers and fries and onions rings is good." He states, casually. "Maybe a side of roasted Demiurge and dead mind control. But I'd settle for the burgers and a fill-on what you're planning, Miss Strahd. Or you turned over a new leaf and decided to do fast food now?"

Beatrix is able to notice the security measures in place-- discreet cameras that swivel silently, their lenses glinting like watchful eyes in the dim light, and heavy doors reinforced with materials that seem almost alive, pulsing with an energy that feels just beyond Beatrix's comprehension. The glass of the windows, though shuttered, is bullet proof, light resistant, and behind the facade of normality, the hum of electricity suggests that other measures lay in slumber, simply waiting to be triggered if required. The longer Beatrix, Novel and Ritsuka remain here, the air grows colder by degrees, and Ritsuka, Novel and Beatrix can almost hear the whispers of ancient incantations woven into the walls. A repeating soft chime resonates, signaling the activation and renewal of protective spells, and Ritsuka, Novel and Beatrix cant help but feel the weight of a hundred unseen eyes upon you-- Eyes which Ritsuka can see are spirits, another level of protection that are only identifiable by the clairvoyant. As Novel steps closer, Hilaina smiles, stepping back unthreateningly, the supernatural darkness moving with her-- Shrouding her, and that is when Ritsuka, Novel and Beatrix feel it; The eye of the eidolon upon you. The touch, the demands and the domination of the Demiurge, the entire purpose for the Anarchs to have been founded by Novel in the first place, settles over you-- A pressure heavy enough to create diamonds. "Clever boy." Hilaina's smile is thin, though her crimson eyes dance with joy. And that is when Novel sees the item set off to one side of the counter-- The item shielded by the glass chamber it has been presented within. A five-spoked black iron wheel with a beating heart in the center "Do you know what this is?" the vampire asks Novel, her motions taking her towards that case. "The heart of an imp captured inside this beautiful arcane artifice."

Ritsuka looks up from her phone, and then sort of sighs. Was this another Vetr? She can't recall about Demiurge, something to do with it not having a profile, like it perhaps should have, but it does give her to glance around. She was pacted with her own and could perhaps request its aid, but then, right now there is no immediate harm, only the felt presence. One that does not yet matter, those spirits can only do so much and the masked woman would know this well. Still, she opens the palm of a hand - as a golden fire comes alive in it, fighting back against the cold that seems to settle over the room.

Beatrix glances over to Ritsuka to notice the golden fire begin to glow. Surrupticiously, she opens her purse and pulls out her pepper spray and short blade under the table. Her eyes seeing more of the gloom than humanly possible as she looks due the more... mundane dangers she's used to

Caressing the case like one might their lover, Hilaina goes on, tone gentle, almost beautiful in its inhumanity. "My price for the work on hypnotism, Novel." she tells Novel, her son. "Such relics are not so easily granted, and when the council of Hell do, it is often at far greater a cost. But for you, Son, no price is too high. I'm not finished with you yet, after all. And this is the final leg of the experiment to turn you into the ideal you failed in the past to be. The great failing that your brothers and sisters failed to be." There is a sense that there is more to say, Hilaina's tone suggests as much. "Science, fleshforming and the arcane. The perfect creation. The ultimate work, and you, Son are to be the one who is rewarded with it. You lucky little devil." Ritsuka's flame is successful in pushing back that chill; Ritsuka and Beatrix find themselves warmed, though still the pressure of the Demiurge remains. "Bilgames," Hilaina continues, "Is the original owner of this piece. It was one of the artifacts claimed by the later-to-be-known Gilgamesh, stored behind the vault of Babylon. And do you know? He wanted me to have this. Not to control you as the Demiurge would once, but for another reason." There's another of those smiles then, and with it, a pulse of supernatural cold. "Because it will hurt you. And because it will hurt the Anarchs, who the Demiurge hates oh-so-very much."

"No." Novel responds immediately to the query, his gaze and study not on the food, even as his nose twitches at the alluring scent, his head tilting briefly to look at the disturbing item. And then his gaze shifts back towards someone, watching her. He bristles, his shoulders lifting up, his hands tense upon the counter, as if expecting to be lunged at at any moment. The pulse of adrenaline and testosterone as his own voice comes out with sharp malice, "Reward? Or did you just want to seem squirm again? Or were you hoping to turn me into a fucking -pet- for your amusement..." He hisses in the space between the monologue before he bites his tongue again. And at the end, he smiles faintly. "Good. I'm glad. Seems like I did -something- right at the fucking end there. I'm good at hurting."

"No." Novel responds immediately to the query, his gaze and study not on the food, even as his nose twitches at the alluring scent, his head tilting briefly to look at the disturbing item. And then his gaze shifts back towards Hilaina, watching her. I'm good at hurting." There's a subtle way that he moves. Blocking the line-of-sight for Beatrix and putting himself in the way.

The burger, Novel would likely be unsurprised to find, is actually pretty good. The fries are crisped to perfection, the onion rings have been battered-- Not breaded, the onion within perfectly moist, with just enough oil to create contrast and barrier, but without the quality that would make them soggy and grim. The lamb is tender, lightly salted and with the tang of charring, the letice crisp and fresh, the pickles crunchy, with a slight hint of spice, chillied and sweet.

The story runner is now hungry.

"I admit, I am busy with my own work right now," Ritsuka quietly says, brightening the flame a little, more to try and ward against the incoming chill that she expects when she says the next couple of words. "But there is nothing that would keep me from organizing a task force to tackle Demiruge, too. If you watched, you would know I will very much push through on to these kind of goals."

"Some of the former. A hint of the latter, though mainly, the satisfaction of completing my experiment." Hilaina's words are still calm, though she's evidently noticed Beatrix's motions. She hears Ritsuka's words, too. For now though she doesn't move; Novel said he would distract, and distracting he is doing. "Though you have missed something." the vampire tells Ritsuka, Novel and Beatrix. "You saw the spirits, the security and the arcana, but you missed my companions. They have been waiting for you all to make your move, and the young lady with the pepperspray there has of course now exacerbated the situation, and our delightful conversation is now at an end. I advance to phase two." Then things start going to shit.

Ritsuka rolls her eyes, but before Hilaina can finish, just on the mention of exacerbated, she throws the golden flame at Hilaina. "You really just need to shut up sometimes, Lady." Oh, yes, her three women do turn around, readying the rifles. At least they are well armed and well prepared, this was not so much a blind-going. Though as ever, preparation can be a bit limited.

Novel crunches through a handful of fries, an onion ring, and the bite of a burger. He enjoys it. Why shouldn't he? He's got the sort of pleasure of a man who's on death row, and doesn't expect to come out of this. He sighs as he puts it down. "It's a good burger." He notes. "That's cool. But you know Anarchists. They tend to make everything a little more complicated." He pulls a grenade from his jacket, with casual ease. The pin's already missing and the lever's been let go.

It is not a frag grenade. Hilaina would just laugh at -that-. The glint and glitter of a neutralizer. Novel flashes a macabre grin as he lunges over the counter with it in hand, not at all trying to throw or be clever with it, calling back over his shoulder, "GO!" As he aims to engage in knuckle-down melee combat. Things likely happen quickly after that.

Beatrix closes her eyes as Hilana throws down the gauntlet, a small wisp of light starting near her breasts, quickly growing in size as it tries to chase out the gloom and darkness surrounding her and shrouding her minions. Those who know her can almost see the love reflected in her eyes as she opens them back up, revealing a soft glow on her eyes.

The char grill emits a soft, crackling sound, the aroma of grilled burgers hanging in the air like a warm embrace, but the atmosphere is thick with malicious tension-- All of it directed towards Ritsuka, Beatrix and the three women with Ritsuka. The supernaturally dimmed, flickering lights cast elongated shadows across the restaurant, where Hilaina stands amidst the cultivated carnage that she caused, her eyes fixed on the case containing her precious artifact; a glimmer of hope amid the encroaching gloom-- For her and her machinations. For Novel, it spells something entirely different. Beatrix light flares, Novel moves and that grenade is thrown. Ritsuka and her women move and for a moment it looks as though you are successful. The neutralizer lands, Hilaina is left unable to do anything to stop any of you, supernaturally or otherwise. She is human in that second, and that shocks her. Ritsuka's foxfire hammers into the vampire and she stumbles back-- The artifact is precious, and even now she protects it with her body, even beginning to burn. Novel impacts her, and still, Hilaina defends The imp heart. The grenade pulses, Novel, Ritsuka and Beatrix are neutralized along with the vampire, and Novel is stronger. He can win a knuckle fight with a depowered vampire, even an aged one such as his mother. Then, the air ripples, and all goes wrong. The vibrant sizzle of meat transforms into a distant echo as the vampire stands there, swallowed by the growing sense of impending dread as Ritsuka, Beatrix and Novel realise that once more, they were preempted. The door creaks open, A distraction, the demons of the syndicate spill into the room through close-range paths, their presence suffocating the space with an oppressive energy. The glint of the syringes they brandish reflects the sparse light, and time seems to crawl to a slow as Hilaina's trap reveals itself in full. The air grows heavy with the scent of fear and betrayal, and the oppressive silence is punctuated only by the soft thud of heavy boots against the floor and those demanding echoes of the Demiurge's oppressive nature. Just as Ritsuka, Beatrix and Novel's instincts scream for action-- Supernatural so they are, the world distorts. A sharp prick pierces the skin, the cold metal of the needle injecting a sinister calm to each of you as one. The pressure builds, and the vibrant colors of your surroundings blur and darken, spiraling away like smoke in the wind. The last remnants of sound fade, leaving only the distant echo of the grill, now a ghostly spectre of the reality slipping from your grasp. A void envelops Novel, Ritsuka and Beatrix a haunting silence swallowing you all whole as consciousness drifts into an endless abyss. Then, some time later-- Though you cant be certain as to how long it has been, you each begin to awaken-- Novel first, biokinesis restoring him, though Ritsuka and Beatrix are soon to follow. You are still in the char grill, though now, the grill has been abandoned. Novel is afixed to a quartz-inlayed table, chained with quartz, and stuffed into a booth, Ritsuka and Beatrix have likewise been chained, Ritsuka with cold iron and Beatrix with obsidian. Hilaina stands, now wearing surgical gloves, and beside her, the glass case containing the relic is open, exposing it to the air. Ritsuka's people are bound in the booth across from Beatrix and Ritsuka, and the stage is set. Hilaina takes the stage, and still healing from that burn, she has returned to her previous neutrality. A smile crosses her features. "Ah good." the vampire grins, fangs extended. "Now the sillyness is over, we can begin."

Hilaina may have bound her, but Ritsuka is not so stupid, there is an angry look she throws at Novel, who the fuck gets the idea to throw a naturalizer in an ENCLOSED space disregarding allied casualties, fucking idiots! But these are not words that she shares. He will pay for this. The cold iron burns, but regardless of it, it does not keep her from actually doing what she would here, something that causes her limbs to change, becoming easier to slip out, and perhaps just enough room for her to slip away. Yes, she shifts. Someone here really ought to get reinforcements.

Beatrix groans softly as she comes to, blinking her eyes and tasting something foul. She's been drugged before by the syndicate, and knows that awful taste left behind. She takes stock of the situation, the chains clicking noisily as she looks for her purse, or failing that any small pieces of metal she might be able to cobble into lock picks.

Beatrix says "What in the fuck was that Novel?"
Novel puts blood on his knuckles and under the fingernails - vampire blood, temporarily human - as he goes to try and strangle his mother unconscious. Even knocked out it takes a certain amount of effort to pry him off, or waiting until the grenade wears off and for her own inhuman strength to return. Then he wakes up after a certain moment and the word that comes out is, "Shit." He mutters. "I knew I should have used napalm and just tried to kill us both."

He tugs against his bonds, the shift and clack of clattering stone, and the hiss as it leaves blooming rashes against his flesh.

"Neutralizer grenade, Trixie."

Beatrix rolls her eyes as her answers. "Euphie is going to kill me if I get killed." she bemoans as she continues to look for something to use as lockpicks.

As Novel wakes, the air is thick with an oppressive tension, a heavy silence that seems to vibrate with the echoes of ancient power, fleshforming, science and arcana bound together insidiously under Hilaina's tender, exacting hands. Shadows dance in the flickering lack of light, casting long, eerie shapes across the brightly painted walls of the restaurant. The atmosphere is charged, as if the very fabric of reality is holding its breath, waiting for the next move, O-zone and putrid scents, the mingling of sculpted flesh and the agony of active biomancy. Hilainas smirk pierces the stillness, a wicked glimmer in her glowing crimson eyes that suggests she knows more than shes letting on as she smiles to Ritsuka(Fox)'s transformation-- Ever in control... Or so she thinks. The flickering sunlight from between the blinds casts a disjointed, though warm glow on her pale, still burned face, but the shadows deepen around her, making her seem both alluring and dangerous; That supernatural sensation of those who are attractive in an unsettling, too perfect way. Hilaina's gestures are fluid and confident, as if shes orchestrating a symphony of fate, each movement imbued with the promise of chaos and perfection, something that sings to the anarchist in Novel and enrages the monsterous impending threat of the eidolon, Demiurge. As Ritsuka(Fox), now a fox, a creature of grace, now lurches forward as it breaks free from its baned chains, still drained of energy, if only for a short time. The sound of iron clinking against the plastic of the booth echoes in the bright, though grim restaurant, a reminder of its previous bondage. As it stumbles, Novel can see the remnants of its struggle-- Ritsuka(Fox)'s fox fur singed and eyes clouded with confusion, yet a flicker of defiance ignites within, as she regenerates before Novel's eyes. The cold iron had burned it, but now, Ritsuka(Fox) yearns for freedom, a reflection of Novel's own inner turmoil, though perhaps less rage-filled... Too rage-filled, as though something were rending Novel's very soul, worming its way within. Novel's gaze drifts back to the Imp's Heart-- Now embedded in his chest, a grotesque marvel of dark artistry. Its surface glistening with an unsettling sheen, reflecting the light in a way that makes it appear to writhe with a life of its own-- Perhapse it does have a life of its own. It is symbiotic, its beat synchronised with Novel's own beating heart. The rhythm of its pulsing thrum resonates within Novel, a constant flood of its malevolent presence, anchoring Novel to its sinister power and whispering its promices-- So much like the whispers of the spirits in Arkwright cemetery, but somehow deeper... greater... More insistant, more seductively inviting. The veins of dark iron snake across Novel's torso, a web of torment and temptation that intertwines with Novel's very essence... And it is waking. Each pulse sends a shiver through Novel's form as Ritsuka(Fox), Beatrix and even Hilaina look on, Novel's form, a mingling of pain and exhilaration, as if the imp heart is whispering secrets of strength and sacrifice. Novel feels the wicked barbs embedded deep within his ribcage, a cruel reminder of his new reality. The air around Novel shifts, heavy with the weight of choices yet to come, and the shadows seem to lean closer, the darkness itself is watching, waiting for Novel to make his move. Hilaina for her part stands back. She smiles to Ritsuka(Fox) and Beatrix. She is rapturous. Her years long experiment is concluded. Her son survived the relic's implantation, and even now, the thing worms deeper into Novel's body, mind and soul. She relishes in that, which is when Beatrix realises that her purse has spilt on the chair beside her. Though bound with angelic bane, Beatrix can reach for those lock picks easily. As for Ritsuka(Fox), what will she do? The three women are still out cold, though once more, Hilaina seems alone and distracted. "You are now perfect." the vampire tells Novel, her fingers stroking the man's flesh. "Stronger, faster, better in every single way. You are my magnum opus. My one success."

Definitely trying to get the fuck out of here, Ritsuka(Fox) tries to find a way out. It is not truly going to help her, she is not someone who aura shifts, and with it, wherever she may go, she would find herself naked and without her phone or other items, and the button she would usually use to get more aid, won't be on her either. That pile of clothing lies on the table now, along with all those other precious items, as well as her blade. She cannot help the three right now either, that would draw attention, but it is still calculated, somewhere. If she can get out, she can hypnotize someone, she can get them to give her their phone, even when she is nude, and call the right numbers. It is by far no perfect plan in a city as busy as New York with little clue to where she actually was, or where she may find an alley to shift at, or to single out a person to gt their phone from. But that will be a worry for later, for now, she must.get.out.

Beatrix uses her toe to quietly kick the lock pick set to her hand, as she quickly tries to pick the locks on those horrible obsidian infused chains. Her brow is starting to sweat as she nervously works to get free.

Novel shrieks in pain - the quartz plus the earlier grenade, perhaps, or maybe it's because the artifact takes more then mere pain and blood as it grinds into his body, the crack and crunch of flesh and the stabbing into blood and flesh. As he writhes, twitching, power and strength coursing through him, a spasming show before he just blacks out for a moment, blood oozing across the artifact and down his lips. But not, fortunately, dead. He's still breathing, though when he wakes he seems to be - very much out of it. "...Mother...?" He says, with the bleary wakefulness of a half-awake child, reaching out for familiarity before his tongue flicks across residual ichor upon the lips and, he grimaces.

"How is this... success."

Beatrix looks to Novel as she hears that, the scared little boy trapped inside him making her forget the horrible things he did to her.

Sliding free of her chains, she grabs up her purse as she stares at the vile scene in front of her. With a quick shake of her head she does her best to sneak around to his still chained form... hoping that she isn't more noticable than the very distracting Kitsune.

The brightly colored booth exudes a sense of claustrophobic intimacy in this moment, the shadows curling around the edges like silent specters, the chains across from Beatrix reminding her of her own issue, and Novel bound to the table in full view as Ritsuka(Fox) attempts to slink away as a fox. The air is thick with a blend of tension and secrecy for Beatrix as she puts her plan into motion, punctuated by the distant murmurs of New Yorkers outside the restaurant, lost in their own worlds, oblivious to the struggle unfolding in the char grill, where Novel, Ritsuka(Fox) and Beatrix struggle to resolve the situation with Hilaina Strahd. Flickering neon lighting casts dancing shadows across the obsidian chains that bind Beatrix, their cold, unyielding surface absorbing the warmth of Beatrix's skin. The scent of plastic and fake leather mingles with a hint of something sweet and smoky from the nearby grill, creating an atmosphere that feels both inviting and suffocating. Outside, the rain begins to fall, blending with snow, creating hale as it taps rhythmically against the blinded window, a soft percussion that mirrors the pounding of Beatrix's heart as she focuses on her task. Each subtle movement is a battle against the weight of Beatrix's constraints; the chains clink softly, a sound that feels deafening in the silence of her determination. With each careful maneuver, Beatrix's fingers glide over the cool metal of the pick, a lifeline in her desperate bid for freedom. The world around Beatrix fades, the laughter and chatter outside dimming to a low hum as Beatrix immerses herself in the delicate dance of deception, every heartbeat echoing the urgency of Beatrix, Ritsuka(Fox) and Novel's plight. Hilaina is not paying attention to Beatrix. Her attention is on Novel entirely, and even Ritsuka(Fox) is being ignored. If she wanted, Ritsuka(Fox) could potentially wake her people and go on the offencive. Hilaina appears to not have the capability right now to attend anyone but Novel. Though her words pierce the silence after her son passes out, then wakes once more. "It is success," she tells the man, "Because you survived. You, Novel are now stronger than you ever could be on your own. You will survive when others die." Novel's distraction is certainly working, and Beatrix is able to reach the table before Hilaina notices her, glancing over the woman and dismissing her before that gaze returns to Novel.

Novel struggles. He writhes and something within him begins to bubble up; A power he shouldn't have. A power he isn't strong enough to have. And still... Still, Novel fights the relic. It fights him, and Novel's regeneration fails, the energy released sucked into the imp's heart and that energy used to dig deeper... Oh so much deeper into Novel's flesh. It will not be removed now.

Beatrix seems to take a long moment deciding something... but probably only takes a second or two. The decision tough, but eventually that little boy voice making her start to pick the locks around Novel as quickly as she can while staying away from his mother.

Novel swallows, once or twice, his expression cold and pale - his pallor nearly matching the vampire's. "I feel like rancid dog shit." He says, bluntly, his sunglass knocked askew somewhere in the trouble, his gray eyes drifting up to meet Hilaina's, pupils badly dilated. "Not sure... how... I keep surviving. Between everything. Fucking - dragon. Fucking phoenix," he groans out. "So what do you want to do with me now? Going to carry me back home?"

Novel wriggles, shifting - making Beatrix's job harder, but also drawing attention to the twist of his head and body. Predators track movement.

Seeing the opportunity, Ritsuka(Fox) tries to prance lightly over - but she was a particularly large fox, which makes so much of it far more difficult. And so she does rush over to the three women, of course she does. She can hardly allow them to be left behind - when there is a window in which she can free them. And so she does, and then - smacks her head into them to try and wake up. Headbutt ala fox! At the least they know she has a fox form, but she cannot talk, and when she sees consciousness return, awareness, which she really cannot until they motion, she ducks down and points aggressively at Novel and most of all, at Hilaina, but their direction is the same. She can path other, and in melee, she may be physically weaker than in her human form, but her attacks are far more vicious.

Ritsuka(Fox)'s women wake and as one, they each raise their hands to their mouths; They spit into their palms, and Ritsuka(Fox), Novel and Beatrix know this was planned. Ritsuka(Fox)'s Iron Camellia are professionals, and they are ready for capture. It's part of the job. They begin to work, and still... Hilaina hasn't noticed anything other than Novel. Beatrix shouldn't even be able to get this close; She's almost shoulder to shoulder with the aged vampire, though with Novel's riggling, the clink of chains, the predator instinct remains. Hilaina fixes her attention onto Novel, even Ritsuka(Fox) forgotten. The Iron Camellia women, members of Tsubaki No Tetsu work on freeing themselves as Beatrix did before and there it is- Clink- It's muffled as Beatrix frees one of Novel's legs. There is a heart beating steadily-- For Novel, two heart beats... At least for now. The imp heart feels as though it's trying to subsume Novel's and once more he is racked with agony. A good agony. A freeing agony, and Novel finally feels the power. He is vastly weakened, though he finds blood thundering through his body. The twin hearts pulse, and with every single beat-- Each moment drawn to stillness. A moment of infinity, where Novel's strength grows in perpetuity. The world appears in that second to pause, Novel having paused the viewing. Then the lens cracks, the rage builds and the lava burns! Ritsuka(Fox)'s women free themselves with Novel's distraction and Hilaina continues to look on, spellbound. "The weakness wont last, Son." she assures Novel. "In time you will be the perfect predator." Her lips curl and the vampire adds, "The first of many. Demiurge has given me the secrets behind the heart. I can reproduce it. I can make more of you. No more being alone. No more suffering alone." And THUNK! One of Ritsuka(Fox)'s women fire a single shot weapon that was hidden from even the frisking of the Syndicate. It's wooden, and it splits the flesh of Hilaina's shoulder. The lens's cracks spiral outward like a spider web. Then, it shatters. Hilaina hisses, and she is on the woman. Her head is removed from her shoulders with as much effort as it would take a demidemon to pull the cap from a bottle. She's on the second, her arm torn from its socket, and Hilaina is draining her-- Exsanguinating, the blood splattering Ritsuka(Fox), but even in her death throws, the woman pierces Hilaina's side with a dagger. Beatrix is able to help Novel free himself, and Novel, Beatrix and Ritsuka(Fox) know that the three of them and the third member of Ritsuka(Fox)'s group could stand a chance, even against an aged vampire.

Beatrix looks down to the fox and asks "I'm assuming you have them?" And then taking the moment to help Novel get out of the room... trying to build her supernatural gifts enough to create a path home due the two of them. That damn grenade still weakening her as she tries to push past it.

Fury burns within the eyes of the fox as Ritsuka(Fox) begins to rage at the sight of her own being just murdered. Her own care for herself, just gone as she now fights with tooth and claw, almost at the level in skill that of someone who has lived for millenia. All care and self preservation is thrown away, given into sheer and complete rage as the fox now bites, claws, headbuts and scratches like there is no tomorrow.

"So you can pit us against each other and have the strongest survive, the only one with a full belly and blood on teeth and hands?" Novel hisses back, a writhing of his body at some grotesque memory that drifts back from between his eyes, a horror that fills him with further suffering and dread. And then the woman is gone, the intense closeness of deadly beauty as he gives Beatrix a grateful look as he stumbles across the table. One hand to his chest, the other to his table, as chains fall and slip free of him. He staggers upright. His expression is confused, and pained, the huffing pants of someone trying to readjust to a new, painful physiology and not die from internal bleeding. He draws upon his own powers, feeling them closer and sharper then ever before as he straightens up with Beatrix's help. He glances down at Ritsuka(Fox), then back up to Beatrix. "We should - Trixie." He focuses. "Hot oil. Grill. Use it on her." He advices as he manages to get himself together before turning it into another lunging tackle at the blood-devouring vamp, and trying his best to grapple her into a position for others to assault.

Pathing from here would be too slow without the ability to path to someone close. Beatrix would know that. But she would also know that by freeing Novel the three of you would have a better chance at driving Hilaina off. Ritsuka(Fox) still has a powerful bite, and her Iron Camellia have vampire bane weapons. The third woman, Ritsuka(Fox)'s bodyguard is more harty than the other two. She protects Ritsuka(Fox) as Hilaina leaps at the second woman, her weapon drawn and stabbing for the vampire, who has to lash out to stop that attack, even as she feeds. Hilaina drops her second victim, even as the stump of the first woman's neck continues to pulse blood and her head finally rolls to a stop at Beatrix's feet, blinking once, her expression seeming surprised before that unfortunate woman realises that she's dead. As Novel pounces, he wraps his arms around someone Good. An aged vampire is strong, and if she cant use her arms, she cant break anyone else. Her second victim slumps, exsanguinated and missing an arm, and then the melee is truly joined.

Her second victim slumps, exsanguinated and missing an arm, and then the melee is truly joined.

Ritsuka(Fox)'s bites are telling-- Less than they should be, Hilaina heals quickly, but she can only kick and struggle right now, Novel pinning her arms in that tackle.

Beatrix grunts in annoyance as Novel leaps right back into the fray. Her eyes rolling, but their movement making her notice the front facade of the grille... and she picks up a chair to start smashing in windows to let in more of Ra's blessed sunlight.

Ritsuka(Fox) jumps away while Novel is holding her down - and she shifts again, this time reaching for her blade, remembering that Vampires do not have the protection they do against longer blades. It is imperfect by far, and she is so much more vulnerable without her armor, naked as she is about to be, but vengeance must be met. Vengeance must be made, and there will be... NO MERCY.

Ritsuka does not have access to her shifter stash here.

Novel folds his arms around someone' twisting them up painfully and opting for the disarm and grapple as he twists himself around with someone - he has inhuman strength that's likely nearly a match for her, as he clenches out with his teeth, "You think... you could have prepared... to make things less... awful!" He hisses. "You made my life... hell on earth!" As he gets out violence and anger by the squeezing of his limbs and body, trying to get into a position to yank her shoulders back in the tumble as he puts forth his real strength, brute force, each jarring twist and thump of his heart leading to muscles spasms across the man.

Hilaina is curiously not as damaged by sunlight than a lot of vampires; Novel and Ritsuka(Fox) would know well from their interactions of late alone that some are able to train themselves to walk in the day, and Hilaina is very aged. Still, she is weakened enough that Novel is able to hold her, and with her movement rendered to lashing out, kicking and hissing, that means the others too can attack or weaken her. There is one issue however. Beatrix is beginning to smash the windows. The Court of New York will not be pleased, and that might come to bite Beatrix, Novel and Ritsuka(Fox) in the ass if they care enough. Still, this is bullet proof glass, and the impact required is great. That said, it is drawing attention, and people outside are already running as Beatrix makes enough of a dent to begin shattering panes. Beatrix just isn't strong enough to do it with one or two swings. Attention though is not desired, and so Hilaina does shrink back. This has the possibility of having Venice step in, which would be a breach of the agreement.

Ritsuka(Fox) shines with the light of the rising easter sun, giving truly into her divine heritage, as she raises the blade to cut an arm from the vampires body. An arm was taken from one of her own, and she judges that it will be an arm for an arm, and then, next, as she so intends, will be a head for a head. What Beatrix is doing is lost to her, but once she learns, she will be quite upset, and report it to Venice herself, to distance herself from any such action. Secrecy must be maintained, but she and Novel are fighting a truly terrifying enemy, one that they must kill if they want to ever be free of her.

Hilaina is wounded, but vampires do not gain wounds so easily, least not aged ones. Ritsuka's blade makes her bleed, but isn't powerful enough to rip off an arm. Hilaina twists again, dislodging Ritsuka's blade, then because she cant move, she paths to Beatrix. Novel drops into the pile of corpses and the bodyguard, and there's a scramble as Ritsuka's bodyguard and Novel untangle themselves. Hilaina's eyes widen in shock as she notices the advancing New Yorkers, and she sweep's Beatrix's legs from under her so that she cant stop the vampire. Then, she retreats. That is good, because someone outside raises a phone, and Hilaina's image is captured on digitle. The bystander clutches at his head, maddened by the digitle image and Hilaina runs deeper into the shadows before Beatrix's hasty, though useful actions can create more issue for the albino. If more attention is drawn, Hilaina will have to go into hiding, even if she's not stopped, and in the domain of the Demiurge, she is stronger by far than she is alone, and would take time to ware her down. That is inadvisable with the agreement, the Court and Venic's oversight, but a civilian having captured an ancient vampire on their phone is something more dangerous by far. Hilaina has hobbled herself here, and is left struggling between assault, where she will be seen, or going into hiding, where neither the Court, Venice or the factions will be able to claim retribution.

Ritsuka glances to the people, it is a little bit of a shame, but her brain is not in working order, she has just lost people that were close to her, and so, she simply paths after the vampire, appearing just behind her, to try and make her stumble, to try and lodge her blade into the demon's neck, to AVENGE those she lost to this stupid whore of a vampire! If not now, then in the future "YOU WILL NEVER ESCAPE ME, HILAINA!"

Ritsuka meant: Into the vampire's neck.

Beatrix stands there panting, exhausted from trying to break the window.

Of all people, Novel is the one that is cognizant of the political problems, even between the haze of internal agony as the woman slips free of his limbs before he can dislocate anything, leaving him panting. He grabs for his jacket, sweeping it off the table zipping it over his ruined shirt before anyone can take a photo of that. "Let's... get the fuck out of here." He croaks, eventually. "Ritsuka! Come on! Before - you know. They blow us all out," He groans out, his body splattered with blood - leaving the way to the alleyway. With how fucked up he is, Ritsuka is gonna have to be the one to path back. "Trixie, meet us back up - where we arrived!" He calls back. She's the only one of the trio that isn't obviously doing weird shit, after all. And the police will have a LOT of questions for a man covered in blood with a weird ass sci-fi magitech thing stamped into his chest.

Novel will find a cardboard box to pass out in the alleyway they showed up in. Ritsuka and Beatrix get to decide where they all go, later, as the player has to eat something before he passes out IRL.

Beatrix grunts as age follows them out. Looking to Ritsuka as she follows behind catching her breath. "I need to work out more."

Ritsuka gets another cut, though not Hilaina's neck. The vampire raises a hand, and the katana splits the fingers to the bone. The vampire hisses, lashes out, and then, she's gone. Ritsuka, Beatrix and Novel are able to run out into the day, and it's not long before news reaches the group; The incident is covered up, but one Hilaina Strahd is being held by Venice for questioning. Novel's mother is locked away with no hope of escape, beaten, blooded and wounded, and Ritsuka's vengeance lingers if she ever did escape. Perhapse after Ritsuka ascends? For now, the group need to run though, and so they do, ending up in Haven after a quick escape.
