Sacrifices In Vain Sr Lanaeis 250411
On a cool afternoon with storm clouds gathering in the sky over the garden of Charity House, an unlikely adventure unfolds between Florian, a man not easily swayed by tales of magic or otherworldly dimensions, and Lorine, a seemingly frail yet mysteriously strong woman claiming to have been raised in the Godrealms. Their quest begins when Lorine, with night approaching, entices Florian into helping her find a hidden artifact on the roof of a nearby dorm. Despite his initial reluctance and bemusement at her climbing prowess, Florian can't resist being a part of whatever odd story Lorine appears to be weaving.
As they navigate their way to the dorm's roof, the dynamic between Florian and Lorine evolves; he's fascinated by her strength and her odd mannerisms, notably when she effortlessly lifts him onto her back to overcome the obstacle of climbing. On the rooftop, driven by a mix of curiosity and an apparent desire to assist Lorine in her mysterious quest, Florian finds himself enveloped in a childlike wonder, engaging in playful banter, and savoring the novelty of being cared for in such an unanticipated way.
Their exploration on the roof leads to the discovery of a five-pointed star with a circular tile at its center. This star, hidden beneath their feet, hints at a design or purpose far beyond ordinary expectations, captivating both of them with its potential significance. It's this circle that ultimately reveals their prize: a hidden compartment containing a star-shaped amber artifact resting on a velvet pillow, akin to something out of a treasure hunter's fantasy.
In a sudden twist, Lorine's demeanor changes as she secures the artifact. She thanks Florian, now referred to as an unwitting pawn in the grand design of "The Golden Shadow." With an ominous smile and cryptic words, she insinuates that Florian's memories of their encounter, of the artifact, and of any connection to a grander, possibly otherworldly scheme must be erased. As Florian protests or seeks clarity, his world fades to black, with Lorine's final assurance that he will wake up unharmed, albeit without the memories of their shared adventure.
Florian awakens under the open sky, adjacent to the very garden where their quest began, with no recollection of the events that transpired. The story concludes with an air of mystery and unanswered questions about the true nature of Lorine, the artifact, and the enigmatic entity known as The Golden Shadow. Florian's brief journey from skepticism to unwitting participant in a hidden world narrative leaves a lingering sense of wonder and the possibility that the ordinary world may harbor secrets far beyond mundane understanding.

It is afternoon, about 62F(16C) degrees, and there are a few dark grey stormclouds in the sky.
The smirk quickly turns into a shit-eating grin as Florian receives the weapon, body jolting away reflexively when it pokes him on the side, and holds it up high in the air for him to inspect. He follows along when beckoned, though his focus is still fixed on the pristine blade even as he trudges back on through the walkway. Once he's satisfied, he'll catch up and sidle right next to Lorine on their walk, knife held at his side. "Don't know where we're supposed to head off to, but sure. Where the hell did you come from anyway? Did you fall from the sky?" A jest, judging by the teasing lilt in his voice.
Lorine points up ahead to the dorm. "They said its somewhere up there!" She chirps, fingers sliding over the wall as she tries to find somewhere to begin her climb. "Where am I from? Um... Well, I was raised on a foothold in the Godrealms. Um... I don't know... oh! From the sky! No, just up there." She points up at a tree that is relatively close to the building, one branch clinging desperately to the trunk where it has apparently been broken free. "Where are 'you' from?" Finally, Lorine sinks her fingers in, and, in a display of astonishing strength, pulls herself up a foot before scrambling to position her feet as she hangs from one hand.
"Somewhere up there...?" Florian squints his eyes towards the pointed direction, and just shakes his head in disbelief, not bothering to want to argue over anything anymore. Instead, he opts to take it all in, the mention of a Godrealms earning her a side-eye and nothing else, while he trails closely behind her. When Lorine starts climbing up, however, Florian is left huffing annoyed breaths yet again, arms spreading aside him in a 'what the hell?' kind of gesture. "How am I supposed to follow you up there?"
Turning her head, Lorine looks at Florian like the answer is clearly the most obvious thing ever. Climb, duh." She sighs, then looks Florian over. "Unless you can't? I can carry you I guess?" She drops back to the ground, and Florian might find it hard to believe that someone so small could carry anyone, not to mention Florian himself. "

She drops back to the ground, and Florian might find it hard to believe that someone so small could carry anyone, not to mention Florian himself. (fixed)
Without much to offer with words, Florian twists the knife around in his hand deftly, and slips it in a pocket of his jacket. Hands both vacated, he extends his arms out to Lorine with a sunny smile and an encouraging bob of his head to her, clearly asking to be carried.
"Ok!" Lorine chirps. And then, yep, she lifts Florian up onto her back. By all reckonings, this should be an impossible feat for her, but she does it without even hesitating. She then approaches the wall, and, after a while of climbing, the two arrive on the rooftop, where Lorine lets Florian down, already beginning her jittery hops again. "Its gotta be around here somewhere! The map said it was somewhere in the roof... maybe there's a secret compartment?" She begins moving about the roof, tapping on it as she goes along.
Piggy-backing the woman, Florian's mood seems to grow for the better at least, head turning to spare a glance behind him to see if anybody else is watching what they're doing right now. With another scrunch of his nose, amused, he shifts his attention to roof once they arrive, cheerfully sliding away from the woman. "Oh man, that felt nice. I've always done the piggy-backing, rarely the other way around, yknow? I should ask for more of that." He prances around the rooftop unbothered, while Lorine does her thing.

"You have?" Lorine is poking at some tile or another, prodding away with one of her knives. Strangely, beneath her, as Florian gets closer, appears to be a point that is aimed at the edge of the roof. It connects at the very center with a small circular tile that centers the five pointed star that Lorine stands on. Another thingo of note are the sounds of voices from below, students returning to their dorms.
"I have what?" Before Lorine can answer, Florian's gaze is already cast downwards to notice the point connecting to a five pointed star under her, which he hurriedly walks on over by to point a finger at. "Ooh, what's that? Under you. You making a star-shaped symbol with your knife or something?"
Looking down, Lorine notes the circle as well. The center is about 6 inches across, and the points appear to extend about five feet out. "Oh!" Scurrying over, Lorine crouches before the center circle, reaching out to poke it. This time, something does happen. Instead of nothing, the tile depresses. In a moment, the tiles have separated, revealing a box inside, which also contains something. Resting on a velvet pillow in the box is a three inch star carved from amber. Reaching out hesitantly, Lorine taps it, before snatching it and turning to Florian. "Thank you." She says, an ominous smile replacing the usually bright ones. "You have been of great help to The Golden Shadow today. Now, it is time to forget." And as she speaks, Florian can physically feel the memories of the meeting... slipping away, like sand falling through loosely closed fingers. "Sleep now. You'll wake up just fine." Are the last words Florian hears before the world goes dark... When he next opens his eyes, its to the sky just outside Charity house.
