The Forgotten Places Sr Elias 250321

In the picturesque setting of Hotel Antlers, amidst the variegated lumber and the hodgepodge warmth of a cabin-esque room, an unexpected adventure unfolds. Antoinette, referred to as Toni, encounters Theo, a man burdened with the care of a feisty little dragon concealed under his jacket. The dragon, much to everyone’s surprise, breathes a tiny puff of flame, setting Theo’s jacket ablaze and catapulting the room into chaos. Theo’s frantic attempts to douse the flames only add to the frenzy, as the dragon, seemingly enjoying the turmoil, makes a dramatic escape, fluttering away with childish glee.

Caught in the moment, Theo, bewildered and singed, laments the loss of what he believed could have been his passage to fame and fortune. He turns to Antoinette, seeking validation and companionship in this bizarre incident, suggesting they could still approach the news with their story – after all, Antoinette is a scientist, or so he believes.

Antoinette, however, sees this chaotic turn of events as an opportunity to delve deeper into her own intentions. With Theo distracted, she deftly administers a syringe, blurring his recent memories with a concoction known only to her. Posing the incident as an unfortunate accident caused by her cigarette, she feigns apology, perfectly playing the part of a concerned bystander. As Theo’s memories of the dragon and the fire dissolve into a hazy blur, he finds himself disoriented, unsure of the preceding events, questioning the sudden lightheadedness overcoming him.

Believing Antoinette’s explanation and doubting his own recollection, Theo wanders off to rest, his thoughts scattered and his sense of reality altered. Thus concludes a peculiar encounter, woven with elements of fantasy, intrigue, and manipulation—a fleeting adventure that blurs the lines between what was real and what was carefully orchestrated by Antoinette, leaving behind a trail of bewilderment and forgotten wonders.

In the Bedroom of Room 102 at Hotel Antlers
Variegated lumber from the surrounding forest have been used to make this log cabin-esque addition to a building. This lends a hodgepodge patchwork of warm browns and golds to the color palette, with the paler woods comprising the floorboards and ceiling and the darker shades mottling the walls.

It is afternoon, about 48F(8C) degrees, and there are a few dark grey stormclouds in the sky.

Antoinette frowns a touch as she listens to Theo talk about the state of the cave. "That's concerning." She murmured. Then she gives him a reassuring smile. "It's nice to meet you, Theo. I'm Toni. Would you be willing to take me to the cave? Maybe we can find some things that will help figure out more about your ting companion."

You really want to go out there? Theo's voice was quiet but edged with something between caution, "I guess I can show you..." As Theo starts leading the way, he adjusts his jacket to deal with the squirming little dragon. The little dragon howevers seems to have regained some of its feistiness and rebels. It lets out a soft chirp, its tiny body wriggling slightly beneath the fabric almost as if it's enjoying the attention, perhaps confused with cooing of a something content, but it seems it isn't. Without warning, a tiny puff of flame bursts from the dragon's mouth, sending a puff of smoke and flame from under Theo's jacket. The flame quickly catches with a bright, angry sizzle snapping in the cool air. "Ahhhhhhhhhh!" Theo yelps as he jerks his body away from the sudden heat, his hand slapping at his burning jacket in a frantic attempt to put out the fire. His eyes widen in panic as the flame spreads a little, licking up the edge of his jacket. The little dragon seems oblivious to the chaos it's caused and hops energetically onto the ground, its tiny claws skittering as it tries to escape the sudden movement around it. Theo lunges after it, but this only fans the flames. He hops backward and flailing with his arms in a feeble and foolish attempt to try to shake off the fire. Stop! No, not the jacket! he shouts, finally pulling off the jacket and stomping on it to put out the flames. The little dragon zips in a wide circle hopping with an exaggerated and clumsy grace that only increases the mayhem. Theo stumbles after it but just as he manages to close the distance, the dragon now thoroughly enjoying the chaos it's caused begins to flaps its tiny wings. A soft buzzing sound hits the air, not unlike a humming bird taking flight, but somehow not as dramatic. With a single, graceful leap it lifts off the ground. "Wait, no!" Theo reaches up in vain his hands outstretched as the dragon zips away, its wings beating faster than his frantic movements could catch up to. His smoldering jacket still linger on the ground behind him, Theo's focus remains on the tiny creature now soaring above him. It flutters higher and higher, gliding away from him with a mischievous chirp as it disappears into the air leaving Theo standing in the middle of the path panting and disheveled, perhaps even a little singed. "Well, thats great," he mutters to himself, running a hand through his hair while still dazed from the chaos, "There goes my fame and fortune." And he looks back to Antoinette, "Your my witness... We can still go to the news. They would believe us right? Your a scientist."

When chaos erupts, Antoinette knows this is her opportunity to take action. As much as she did want to see that cave, maybe she could find it on her own later. She'll make sure to talk to someone about a potential baby dragon on the loose. For now, while Theo is distracted, Antoinette slips a syringe out of the case she always carries on her person. She moves closer to Theo, as if wanting to check on him and make sure he's alright. "And a doctor." She confirms, another white lie even as he'd briefly feel the sting of a needle in his neck. And then his memory of the last couple hours would be a hazy blur. The syringe is pocketed as she's stamping her cigarette into the ground. "Holy shit man, I'm so so sorry! I didn't even notice my cigarette got so close! Or that jackets could be so flammable." She gives him a sheepish look.

Theo barely has time to register the sharp sting at his neck before the world around him tilts his senses blurring at the edges. His thoughts feel like they've been shoved into a foggy bottle and rattled around but unable to connect. He blinks sluggishly, mouth parting as if to say something but nothing coherent comes out. Theo stares at her, mind grasping at the last thing he remembers. There was something important, something about... fire? A cave? His jacket still singed and on the ground but the details slip through his fingers like sand. "...Yeah," he mumbles, running a hand through his hair, suddenly unsure of why he feels so lightheaded. "Guess I should, uh.... be more careful. What were we talking about again?" He asks for a moment, the whole rash of events regarding the dragon totally gone from his head, he murmurs, "I feel tired and want to go lay down...." And with that, he starts to wander off, picking up his jacket as he passes, looking bewildered.
