    Correction: Maina quit, not Evalina.

I did quit too. I considered coming back before, but saw there was no one left and a pretty irritating bug was affecting me and I got swept into the faenapping thing and just kind of didn’t

We all quit because 7 was shite, but it has always been normal to see the occasional bit of banter in newbie. As long as nobody went overboard and tried to transform it into the new OOC, it was never a problem. When this version first released, there was all manner of talk in there that was not at all in line with the diehard notions of ‘it must be a newbie asking or somebody answering that.’ When did this community become so regimented? Was that why it died out?

Let me reiterate in particular that you have here a game that died because it was saddled with a punitive mechanic that made people feel like it was not worth their time to continue, and was then faced with a rapidly dwindling population, but now the main topic of conversation is that people are saying the wrong things on the only social channel that is available to all players. Oh, what a hardship!

If you want this ship to emerge like the Flying Dutchman in that pirate movie where it had clearly already sunk, as H7 has, you cannot afford to bicker about whether this person or that is misusing a chat channel that is surely barren because nobody plays the bloody game. Where are your priorities?

I quit due to a ton of bugs with the plot system. Most people quit due to the faenapping, which was stated to be bugged in how it worked. I think it’s honestly mostly bugs that did it. Game needed more polish before getting launched. Which was a nice, fresh change since every prior iteration I left because the community is famously awful. Like the one thing this game was known for in MUD communities other than consent stuff. It’s why we lost a lot of people early on, before the faenapping. Even before faenapping was a problem, people were leaving because the community hadn’t changed and wasn’t something they wanted to deal with.

I don’t think encouraging the community to break the few rules we do have is really going to help keep anyone around. It’s really strange logic that you have to allow more problems in order to somehow fix other, entirely unrelated problems.

I’m sticking around these forums in hopes of some news that bugs are getting fixed. I’ve just been waiting for bug fixes. I had fun until the day-long crashes and database corruption. This is a game I intend on playing again, once it’s in a playable state. You already said you’re leaving. Why do you keep coming back to post angry rants for a game you publicly quit?

Nobody is encouraging us to break rules. That’s a real bizarre leap of logic to make. Nobody was devolving Newbie by holding hour-long conversations about random OOC topics. What did happen, every rare now and then, is that the conversations on Newbie did kind of devolve into side-path stories/play-by-plays that, I agree, should not be spammed too excessively.

But yes, I kind of understand your points, Ama. My Newbie channel privs were revoked, likely due to these complaints from non-playing people who were never (with the exclusion of pofEdward) even bothered by my use of the channel. When we’d have 20+ people online, with several of whom relying on Newbie to actually pose questions, I get that it’s vital to keep the channel from derailing. But when we struggle to even have more than 10 people around, most of whom don’t give two sh*ts about how we communicated on Newbie, there is that leniency I was hoping for. I tried to always keep the OOC Policy helpfile in mind, to not be detrimental to someone’s enjoyment, but judging by my current newbie channel ban, I guess I did it wrongy still. I’m really debating leaving this game behind at this point, and seeing this kind of vehement aggression and hostility thrown at us playing people by those who don’t even play is a gigantic detrimental factor.

I have a lot of questions piling up, and am now quite unable to get these answered. It’s severely hampering my ability to explore/enjoy/play the game to the point it is, practically, unplayable.

You won’t get answers to those questions. This version of Haven has been abandoned. No real amount of effort was ever put into it, so we were all fooled when we thought it was worth our time. It wasn’t. Your mistake is believing that your efforts would be paid back in kind. They will not. Now, with the announcement of a “new game,” it is abundantly clear that it’s a waste of time to keep up appearances in Haven.

I’ve asked questions of this upcoming new game, but one must wonder if it is worth one’s time. People with more time on their hands are invited to playtest it. I hope to hear that it was worth their time. I hope to hear that it is a breath of fresh air. I just don’t predict it.
